I wrote this article for my blog

Hi...I wrote this article for my blog, and I have added the words "I, Sherm Cohen, am the author of this article, "Dan Gordon -A Brush With Greatness," and I release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.3 and later." to my blog post at

http://cartoonsnap.blogspot.com/2009/01/dan-gordon-biography-life-and-work-of.html

Please let me know if I need to do anything else to share this information on Wikipedia. Thanks.

I responded to your comments at the AfD there, but I wanted to address the particular issue with your commentary here. The assertion that I have nominated the article for deletion in order to clear the way for my "own" article is bizarre and greatly lacking in agf. Second, tacking on wp:worldview, as if to imply I afd'd the article just because it's from Botswana, or without researching the notability, is also a big leap of bad faith assumption on your part. I specifically referenced, in the AfD, searches I made in attempting to establish notability using the very same two sources this group has their columns published in, to no avail with either (aside from the columns themselves). I appreciate your belief in the article subject's notability, but going out of your way to assume bad faith is disappointing.   user:j    (aka justen)   11:02, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll try to assume good faith here. But help me out. Can you please explain why you would WP:Speedy a year-old article, which met none of the usual strict criteria for speedy deletion, rather than WP:Prod it first? You've been editing since 2004, so it's difficult to believe that you're unaware of the difference between the two by now. That, coupled with the fact that you then immediately went on to start an article with the name Consumer Watchdog bolded in the intro: was it really so bizarre and lacking in AGF for me to infer that you were bumping a year-old article to make way for your new one? Please correct me if I've overlooked something. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 20:27, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article has no verified, reliably sourced claim of notability. And I looked to try to find some myself. To say it "met none of the usual strict criteria for speedy" is completely inaccurate. Quite specifically, given the fact that it didn't have a single reliable source, it more than fail a7, and given the way it was written it arguably fails g11, as well. The age of the article doesn't excuse the situation (or exclude speedy). Given the fact that not a single individual had made any significant edits to the article in the time since it was written, except the original author (who only ever edited that article, which brings up worrying wp:coi issues), it is, quite frankly, in my opinion, a non-notable promotional article that fell through the cracks. You can throw around wp:csb, how long I've been editing, or anything else you want, but it doesn't excuse the fact that this article doesn't even come close, as it is, to meeting our criteria for inclusion on the basis of notability. Please, source the article. If you can't, it should be deleted.   user:j    (aka justen)   00:16, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It does not "more than fail a7", and only a few lines read as promotional, which you could easily have removed. Please re-read WP:Criteria for speedy deletion#A7:
"The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source. If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can improve the article yourself, propose deletion, or list the article at articles for deletion."
This is what you should have done, and not attempted to speedy it. If I hadn't removed the speedy tag, an admin would have. MuffledThud (talk) 03:16, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don´t touch the interwiki please

About NTC&Logistics

The article I created wikipedia (english version) is a University project, I´m currently developing the Portuguese Version, and I NEED to creat a interwiki to some other wikipédia, if you whant sources and you can read portuguese, go to the portuguese version of the article. Please stop messing with my work, I need a grade by the end of the semester and I will put sources on that stub! Just don´t touch it.

Thx for setting the category by the way.

Best Regards RuiDAlmeida 12h04min de 18 of March 2009 (UTC)

I deleted the interwiki link because it was a dead link. You created that stub with the dead interwiki, then walked away from it for 6 days. I won't "mess with your work" now, because there now is a stub on the other end of the link. But please don't expect editors to ignore problems with articles in order to help you with your homework. I got it, donkey! I am 14 and from Kazakhstan. Do you think i can create great articles? //Antonin Andrejev —Preceding unsigned comment added by Antonin Andrejev (talkcontribs) 00:04, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I certainly do think you can create great articles. Read about how to do it in Wikipedia:Your first article. Slow down! Create one article, and add some detail to it: information, references, etc. I'd quite like to learn about some of these interesting-sounding places in Kazakhstan. But don't just fire lots of one-line articles out like a machine gun, and expect them to stay up. Ask me for help: I'm happy to give it, as long as you're willing to put the time in. I didn't create it myself: I moved it from a spam page to an article about a notable company. MuffledThud (talk) 00:38, 24 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hollywood of the east listed at RfD

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Hollywood of the east. Since you had some involvement with the Hollywood of the east redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). Redtigerxyz Talk 13:51, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You reverted my creation of this page. This was the outcome of a discussion on Talk:Bobby Shafto. It is not a duplicate, because that article is about Robert Shafto and the one I created is about the song (folk songs are usually listed under their first line), which may or may not be about that historical figure. The plan, as you will see, was to adjust the Bobby Shafto page to reflect the new separate article. However, I wasn't planning to do that, but I was going to leave it to the major editor of that page. I would really appreciate it if you would restore my edits to the various pages, otherwise this situation cannot be satisfactorily resolved. Thanks.--Sabrebd (talk) 10:33, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Safemedia

Just an FYI, when tagging articles as advertising, you might want to see if they are actually copyvios. I just deleted an article for safemedia, that is a copyvio of this. An easy way to find it is to take a sentence from the wiki article and look for the sentence in Google. You would be surprised at how many "spam"articles are actually copyvios.---I'm Spartacus! NO! I'm Spartacus! 22:40, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, yes I do lots of those. Sometimes it's a judgment call on whether to tag spam as db-spam or db-copyvio, since if you only tag spam as copyvio they'll just put some non-copyvio spam up as soon as the copyvio is deleted. I could tag it as both, but Twinkle doesn't support multiple speedy tags yet. Maybe I should propose that as a feature... MuffledThud (talk) 10:15, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, I hate db:spam. That is a very (overly) subjective category in many cases. Plus, one of the key reasons to do it as a copyvio as compared to spam is that a lot of people treat spam (and attack pages) differently. When I work CSD, I always clear out those two categories first because they are the ones that can do actual damage if a search engine or wikiclone gets ahold of them.---I'm Spartacus! NO! I'm Spartacus! 17:05, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It can often be a matter of balancing the minor irritant of potential future repeat spam versus accidental deletion of useful content, so in that respect you're right, the latter is worse than the former. Without hard data on the actual frequency of repeat spam, however, the judgement is based solely on subjective recall of anecdotal data. I wonder if anyone has done stats analysis on this yet using a reliable large sample. Worth thinking through further, thanks. MuffledThud (talk) 17:48, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chris Bradds de-prodded

One of the two (seemingly single-purpose) editors of this article has removed the prod tag... and also most of the unref tags. I'd afd it myself, but I actually used to know the subject of the article. Not exactly a conflict of interest... but it would keep me off a jury! You might also want to check the edits of users Brep00 as well, as both accounts probably *do* have CoI issues with any members of the Bradds family. The Terry Bradds article may be worthy of inclusion, but it's borderline. Majorclanger (talk) 15:49, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well spotted, thanks Major C. I've just AFd'd it, since the editor(s) don't seem interested in referencing it, and it looks like turning into a pointless edit war over removal and restoration of unref tags and dodgy refs. He sounds like a pretty cool guy and I bet he has some great stories to tell, but the article easily fails WP notability standards and doesn't look fixable. MuffledThud (talk) 15:56, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

delete the articles if you wish. don't have any CoI interest in the bradds family. just interested because they are a higher profile family from where i was from. also, interested in Gary Bradds. he and Terry Bradds were hero's of mine as well as many others. didn't create either article! i'll refrain from any other additions to wikipedia. --Brep00 (talk) 05:11, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Allen Jenkins

MuffledThud, no doubt you know more about the policies than me, but this is on requested moves and your changes now are in conflict with what I have written there of what I've done, and what the original request was asking. You're treading on my toes, you've just changed the articles' titles completely from the move request, which was to have "Allan Jenkins" as the title for the footballer. I didn't change that request I simply added dab pages and redirects. I think maybe your good faith has not been helpful this time? SimonTrew (talk) 22:59, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are two Allan Jenkinses, both of which are notable, and one Allen Jenkins, but no Alan Jenkins in Wikipedia yet. It therefore makes sense to redirect that spelling to the new disambiguation page, since readers might be looking for any of the three. MuffledThud (talk) 23:03, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agree both in fact and in sentiment. I am not sure you have got this right though. I just hit Allan Jenkins and got the journalist. I will check the redirects but if we're not careful we'll be chasing each other's tails. SimonTrew (talk) 23:09, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clicking on Allan Jenkins, I get the dab: try reloading your browser cache, or closing and re-opening your browser. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 23:11, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You broke (with a move) Alan Jenkins with edit reason "misspelling". The whole point is that is a common way to spell the forename, hence the dab. That being said, thanks for adding useful edit summaries, at least I didn;t have to guess (one of my pet hates). Alan Coren and my brother David Alan will serve as two examples for now; one is notable, and the other I love, well he is like a brother to me. Hang on, he is a brother to me. SimonTrew (talk) 23:22, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not broken: Alan Jenkins also redirects to the dab page Allan Jenkins (disambiguation), since it could be a misspelling of any of the three. Puzzled: what do you want me to do? Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 23:25, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Muffled you are right, I checked it immediately after posting. Immediately before, it was broken. Just in a state of flux I guess. A bot got in the way and I have had a go at the bot-- they should have standoff delays at that kind of thing since we can't all do every change at once, eh? We're just human takes us a few seconds.
Thanks for your help I think is all shipshape now. I only wandered across this from the Requested Move article, it does go to show that (a) things aren't as simple as people [not the OP] expect and (b) things can get sorted with no great trouble when people with good faith want them to (see below).
Very best wishes SimonTrew (talk) 02:19, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to ARS!

Here to help articles tagged for rescue!

Hi, MuffledThud, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! -- Banjeboi 00:39, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion?

Can you please link to the discussion you cited for undoing the Consumer Watchdog move? user:J aka justen (talk) 12:31, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was referring to WP:Articles for deletion/Consumer Watchdog (Botswana). Both organizations are notable, so disambiguation is needed for the title "Consumer Watchdog". Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 12:35, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Our naming conventions prescribe that the organization with the stronger common usage claim to the name should be located at Consumer Watchdog, and wp:csb doesn't override that. Likewise, there was nothing at the AfD that advocated Consumer Watchdog being a dab, so I'm not sure what you're referring to there. As I mentioned at User:Orangemike's talk page, I will propose a discussion on the move shortly. user:J aka justen (talk) 12:47, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nearly forgot - we also discussed the article here, now archived here. MuffledThud (talk) 13:42, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Am I overlooking something there about naming? user:J aka justen (talk) 13:48, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My guess is that you're overlooking nothing on the strict letter, but something of the spirit, of what we discussed before and what's articulated so far in WP:CSB. I can't speak for CSB, but the former may be my fault for not conveying thoughts into words well enough: I'm not exactly a gifted writer.
What I'm trying to say is this: neither organization can be regarded as so overwhelmingly notable that the majority of WP readers would regard either as common usage. Anecdotally, I hadn't heard of either group before I spotted the speedy on the original Botswanan article, but that proves little for our purposes here. As you rightly pointed out on Orangemike's talk page, at the moment a Google News search returns 7390 hits for the US group, and 2430 hits for the Botswanan group. This demonstrates pretty conclusively to me that neither organization is notable enough to be regarded as common usage, but both are notable enough for inclusion in WP. Therefore we should disambiguate between the two, and expand both. MuffledThud (talk) 16:41, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. I would normally expect a three to one ratio to be demonstrative of the fact that one is in common usage, but I should add that I used the most conservative search terms I could think of for the group based in the United States compared to the broadest ones I could fashion for the group based in Gaborone. I suspect the actual ratio would be considerably more lopsided given a fairer contest (so to speak), as, for example, the organization in the United States has been a significant voice in the ongoing healthcare debate there for several years now, among a number of other topics. user:J aka justen (talk) 16:48, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The ratio alone is not all that's under consideration: we wouldn't consider 6 pages to 2 to be demonstrative of anything. Add to that the fact that there is far less online news coming from Africa: 2340 seems incredibly high to me for a small Botswanan group. In the UK, there's even less news coverage of the US group: 374. In India, 92, etc., though the ratio is the same. We can't use a simple ratio here. MuffledThud (talk) 17:33, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(←) To expound on that, Google is by no means a scientific way to judge common usage, but it can help give somewhat objective figures:

  • Based on city of headquarters: 14,900 for the organization based in Santa Monica, 898 for the organization based in Gaborone.
  • As a side note, the organization located in California appears to have a very substantial connection with the state it is based in, California: 67,400.
Botswana is a small country, and the US is a huge one. In Botswana, you don't need to mention Gaborone: it's taken for granted that an organization of any importance will be based there, hence there's usually no need to mention it. In the US this is not the case: there are hundreds of towns and cities capable of supporting an important organization. MuffledThud (talk) 17:33, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Systemic bias notwithstanding, it appears clear that one of these organizations can reasonably claim "common usage" of the name. That argument kept the Botswana article from being deleted despite the lack of reliable (secondary) sources, but it really is a stretch to say the naming conventions, too, should be ignored in some attempt to favour the organization based in Botswana. user:J aka justen (talk) 17:11, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are now plenty of reliable secondary sources. The Botswanan group is far more notable to a Southern African. Where's the boundary for claiming greater notability, and what are the precise criteria? It's a fuzzy boundary, with fuzzy criteria. In the absence of overwhelming evidence, we can consider neither group common usage outside of the United States, apart from academics and politicians outside the US with a particular interest in these aspects of US policy. MuffledThud (talk) 17:33, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? The group's location doesn't matter. We can tell, based on the above, that in the English language, the notability is anywhere from fifteen to one and higher in favour of the group in the United States. It's the top hit for the term on Google, the organization based in Botswana isn't even in the first several pages. There's no "absence of overwhelming evidence." user:J aka justen (talk) 17:38, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I respectfully disagree. A higher number of Google News hits is useful supporting evidence, but not conclusive. Quoting WP:PRIMARYTOPIC:
Tools that may help determine a primary topic, but are not determining factors, include:
* Incoming wikilinks from Special:WhatLinksHere
* Wikipedia article traffic statistics
* Google web, news, scholar, or book searches MuffledThud (talk) 17:50, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, they help. But there has to be a compelling case to just through any objective data out the window. Search results are at least fifteen-to-one. Wikipedia traffic is two-to-one. News archive results are more than twenty-to-one. By any objective statistic I can find, one has a claim to common usage while the other simply does not. user:J aka justen (talk) 18:04, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please provide links for the results you're quoting there: I don't get those results, but perhaps I'm not checking for them correctly. Also, calling data inconclusive isn't throwing it out the window. Quoting from WP:PRIMARYTOPIC again:
If there is extended discussion about which article truly is the primary topic, that may be a sign that there is in fact no primary topic, and that the disambiguation page should be located at the plain title with no "(disambiguation)".
It doesn't look as if you and I are going to agree on this, and I suggest we take the debate to a wider audience to try to get some advice and consensus on what to do here. MuffledThud (talk) 18:42, 26 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

i want to make sure my Josh Flagg page is no longer going to be deleted, i fixed the opening sentence which explains who i am so i dont think it will , is that correct? im so sorry im so bad with computers (Jdf3524 (talk) 13:51, 4 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

No worries! And apologies for the delayed reply: I've been busy searching for a missing phone charger. You're most welcome here, and in my opinion your edits to Edith Flagg were very useful, thanks. I'm not a Wikipedia administrator, just a regular editor same as you, and I didn't nominate Josh Flagg for deletion, so that's not up to me. If Josh Flagg does get deleted, then the links to it from other articles will probably get deleted too. Please post back here if you have any questions, or for really expert help, you can ask at the forums listed at WP:HELP. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 14:08, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply, which edits to Edith Flagg are you reffering to i dont beleive i made any edits. If you dont work for wikipedia, how did we start talking to eachother , lol, i am really confused now. Do you think my Josh Flagg article will be deleted still? My mistake in the begining was not opening the article with who i am, i just started with my family backround, i updated it, so it should be fine now, right? Will wikipedia let me know that more changes need to be made before they delete it or will they jsut delete it right away? I took your advice and removed my name from the other related articles (Jdf3524 (talk) 14:14, 4 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

I was talking about these edits to the Edith Flagg article. I don't know whether Josh Flagg will be deleted or not: sometimes the admins will do that instantly (for example if there's a copyright violation involved), other times it can take a day or more, but if the admins decide that it was nominated in error, then the deletion nomination will be declined. Don't remove the deletion notice from the article though, that's frowned upon when done by the article's creator. For more info on how speedy deletion works, have a read of WP:SPEEDY. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 14:20, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thank you for your help, can you tell me how to put the deletion notice thing back because i already deleted it, thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdf3524 (talkcontribs) 15:49, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

looks like all the deletion stuff just went away, is this so? im sorry to bother you, but would you mind looking, it looks like the article is now in the clear. (Jdf3524 (talk) 15:54, 4 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]

Yes I've removed the deletion notice myself, as I can see that you've clearly asserted notability in the article. If another editor wants the article to be deleted then it will need to be discussed first, using WP:PROD or WP:AFD. I won't be proposing deletion, but another editor might, so keep an eye on the article if you don't want it to be deleted. MuffledThud (talk) 15:59, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

hey there i was hoping you could help me, another editor removed all my articles even though all the referances are there. if you google archive the peoplei wrote about, all the info is there, so i dont know why this editor removed everything. what should i do? im so friustrated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jdf3524 (talkcontribs) 04:05, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll try to help if I can. Josh Flagg is still up. According to the deletion log, A Simple Girl: Stories my Grandmother Told Me was deleted because it was written like advertising, so you could always recreate it describing it using neutral language that doesn't sound like an ad, and showing how it's notable as described in WP:Notability (books), with some WP:Reliable sources backing it up. Deletion of Edith Flagg is being discussed, but it hasn't been deleted yet. Benjamin Platt needs reliable sources. Marjorie and Herman Platt Art Gallery got merged into another article, since at the moment the article's short enough that it can be covered as a section of American Jewish University#Campus resources and facilities. What kind of help were you looking for? MuffledThud (talk) 21:23, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My Article {Dar Al Arkan Real Estate} has been deleted \ Speedy Deletion

Dear MuffledThud

Thank you for your kind note,

And many thanks for eveybody that works on this fantastic encyclopedia. that i used to get my knowledge from it since far time ago,

I'm sending you this massage regarding my Article that has been deleted "speedy deletion" Article Subject was: Dar Al Arkan Real Estate

Actually, As you noticed that i was trying to post this Article that talks about Dar Al Arkan Real Estate Development Company, and i really sepnt alot of time on it to represent it in a good way, suddenly I surprised by the speedy deletion command on it, However I read alot about how to post an article in proper ways and I read alot from the links that I found in your massege and from the help page,

So I fugured out that my wrong step that i did was in posting the Subject mentioning the category path of this thing" Real Estate " because it might look like an Advertinsing about the company, So i'll consider this as a mistake and I will modify it, so now i'd be highly appreciated if you can advise me what else mistakes that i did in the article ?..in order to avoid any next deletation, actually the article talks about a real state company and it calls Dar Al Arkan it's Based in Saudi Arabia, and its one of the Biggest Real Estate Companies in middle East, I dont mean to make it as an Advetising or anything else, I want to post it as its a natural article, since I noticed such real Estate companies from the middle east that listed in Wikipedia, for example : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emaar http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubai_Holding

So agian i will be appreciated if you can tell me what else i can do in my article in order to be listed on Wikipedia

Thanks and best regards

you are such a great advisor!

Glad to coordinate with you,

well, i read the articles that you sent regarding the spamming , copy rights and COI, actually i got a lot of information overther, the content that i'm welling to add for Dar Al-Arkan Real Estate doesnt match any spamming, and wont violate any rights but even though i'm worried to face the deleation case again! however the content that i have will include such as:

  • Other projects of Dar Al-Arkan Real Estate
  • The history and Ownership of this company
  • Summary of Key Stages of Dar Al-Arkan’s Development

( including some reffrence for the above points )

So do you think such information will drive me to the deletation case please advise with your input since i'm realy excited to add and create usefull articles

Regards

BandarSar (talk) 14:29, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello BandarSar, and thank you for those kind words. I think you should go ahead and add that information, it sounds useful and informative. Just ensure that it's written like an encyclopedia entry rather than an advertisement, and that it has references from WP:RS, and so on. If you put something in there that shouldn't be, like copyrighted material or something that sounds like advertising, another editor will come along and change it, but I doubt that the whole article will be deleted. Good luck! MuffledThud (talk) 08:16, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

dear Muffled thank you for your support actually i have a Q, and need your input,

how i can make brief profile for any article i write ? what i mean how i could create that box that use to be on the left side and contains: Image of the Article Type Founded Headquarters Industry Website

thank ou in advance for your support

BandarSar (talk) 13:28, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello BandarSar, the box that you're talking about is called an Infobox. adel al-roumi

Dear MuffledThud, I have updated the article and updated all the links to address the concerns given. When can the deletion nomination be removed ? or is there any other things i have to address to remove the nomination. Thanks ! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kuwait78 (talkcontribs) 13:53, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have a read of WP:BIO. So far the references given in the article show is that the subject was a senior executive in some notable companies, but that doesn't necessarily make a subject notable. Also, only the reference from the Kuwait Times is a secondary source, as described in WP:RS. I realise that secondary sources about a Kuwaiti may be difficult to find in English, but that's what the English version of Wikipedia requires. I'd definitely recommend that you post comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Adel Al-Roumi on why you think the article should be kept. At some point an administrator will decide whether there's a consensus for keeping or deleting, but I'm not an administrator myself. Good luck! MuffledThud (talk) 16:31, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear MuffledThud, Thank you for your response and assistance and guidance. There exist many external links i just added that according to WP:RS applies as a secondary source. It also proves that the subject of the article is notable in Kuwait as he is constantly mentioned in press releases monthly and constantly meets leader heads in Kuwait, as posted in several of the external links in the article. In addition to the information posted in the article, he also served in several board member positions in internationally renowned banks and companies. The subject clearly satisfies several of the conditions posted in WP:BIO According to WP:BIOa subject is qualified if "The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by their peers or successors" and if "The topic of an article should be notable, or "worthy of notice"; that is, "significant, interesting, or unusual enough to deserve attention or to be recorded." Being head of the Parternship Technical Bureau, that as cited in many notable articles and releases such as http://www.zawya.com/Story.cfm/sidv52n38-3NC09/Kuwait%20Moves%20Towards%20Water%2FPower%20Privatization%20Through%20First%20IWPP/ The partnership technical bureau is a newly established governing vehicle incharge of all major government projects that involve the private sector from international and local companies. Therefore there has been a sparked interest about this governing body and head of the organization and therefore enables the subject of the article to comply with "worthy of notice" as "interesting enough to deserve attention" It also complies with "The person is regarded as an important figure or is widely cited by their peers or successors" as being the chairman of one of the biggest companies in kuwait and being a highly ranked official in the government. To name one project that the partnership technical bureau is incharge of establishing that is generating huge interest is article http://www.roadex-railex.com/images/pdf/Kuwaitseekspartnersinthreetransportprojects29July09GN.pdf he is establishing three transportation system projects that include building a metro in Kuwait.

Does this prove enough that he does comply as an entry to the english wikipedia ?

The organizations mentioned don't yet have articles on Wikipedia, but they do sound notable. However, being head of a notable organization doesn't necessarily make a person notable, and articles about CEOs of notable companies often get deleted here if the subject can only assert notability by being the company's head. Many of the English links posted in the article don't even mention him, and the ones that do aren't actually about him, but rather mention him in passing as part of the news story, rather than as the story's subject. Can you find any news articles or other reliable secondary sources per WP:RS which are about the man himself: an interview, a profile, something like that? I posted this on the OmniUpdate discussion page, but I'm not sure that was the correct place, so I am reposting here: This post is in regard to the warnings given to the new article I just created for "OmniUpdate". I am creating this article as a result of the article "List of content management systems". Our product is listed in that article, but has nowhere to link. Other companies listed in the article have successfully created similar articles for their companies and products. The information in the OmniUpdate article is written in a neutral tone and is not an advertisement. I would like feedback on how to improve the OmniUpdate article so that it will not be deleted from Wikipedia. 770editor (talk) 21:07, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please have a read of WP:COI: you appear to be either an employee or associate of the company, employed in a marketing capacity: see [3]. Also, the article currently reads like a brochure from a product marketing team: "...offers the benefits of both...", "...built on open standards, leverages the power of...", "...is used to manage more than 500 college and university websites nationwide...", etc. It's not what you'd expect to read in an encyclopedia.
Regarding your comment about other companies' articles, have a read of WP:OTHERSTUFF. If you don't want to see the article deleted, then I would suggest a complete re-write. Let me know if you'd like me to help with this. MuffledThud (talk) 21:28, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your quick response. I am in no way trying to abuse or distort Wikipedia and have read over many of the guidelines. I have gone back and edited some of the content to make it more neutral; however, statements like "build on open standards" and "more than 500 college and university websites" are facts and I'm not sure how to reword those. Any suggestions or help you can provide would be grately appreciated. 770editor (talk) 22:01, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MuffledThud - If you are not able to make further suggestions on how to improve the OmniUpdate article, I ask that you please remove the three warning flags. Thanks. 770editor (talk) 18:04, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've re-written it a bit to remove the ad copy, but the other noted issues remain unaddressed: three of the references given so far are marketing pages from the company website, and one is a company press release on MarketWire, which are not reliable, independent, secondary sources per WP:RS. The article still hasn't asserted notability for the company as described in WP:COMPANY. If you need any further info on those guidelines, please let me know. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 18:59, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that I've added (and will continue to add) reliable secondary sources. I hope this helps.770editor (talk) 22:10, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

user talk blanking

Regarding this edit:[4] users are explicitly allowed to blank anything they wish from their own talk pages except blocking or sockpuppetry notices. It is assumed that blanking these notices indicates they have read and understood them. Beeblebrox (talk) 07:10, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, and I don't normally unblank comments from other editors' talk pages, but this instance is slightly unusual: I unblanked them to clarify the circumstances under which the editor was blocked, and to show that there was little chance of political bias being involved in the deletions: articles on non-notable candidates from both major parties were speedied. I've also used my last diff with restored comments (prior to their revert) to inform the debate at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tag Greason. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 08:41, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I was just concerned you weren't aware of the policy, sometimes that type of situation leads to some very silly talk page edit wars, and there's already been enough drama around this one... Beeblebrox (talk) 20:30, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, MuffledThud. You have new messages at Phenry09's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as Gregory Pizzurro, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Gosox5555 (talk) 01:41, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I only created the redirect following a userfy: see [5] Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 01:44, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah... That's the problem with instant editing. Multiple edits at the exact same moment causes problems. We don't usually give a redirect to a user page, the SOP is to delete and have the user copy the page. It appeared to be an edit project. Gosox5555 (talk) 01:54, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Allied Artists International, and Senior abuse by an WarriorBoy at Wikipedia

  • I am a relatively inexperienced editor of articles about China. Louis Lesser is a historic business figure in China, who was instrumental in opening it up.
  • Louis Lesser is now 93 years old man and is computer illiterate.
  • Kimball Dean Richards has a criminal record that includes so many crimes over the past twenty years that he has been identified as a “Master Criminal” by the FBI, was sentenced to 20 years for bank fraud, mail fraud, an wire fraud in about 1990, and plea bargained after he solicited the MURDER of one of his own employees, tapped the phones of the Sheriff’s office in order to pre-warn drug dealers of impending searches, and was extradited to Arizona for still more criminal charges.
  • WarriorBoy is an editor who only writes articles that promote ALlied Artists International.
  • By allowing the vandalism of reliably sourced content, from LA Times, federal court records, etc., WarriorBoy and the Consolidated Allies gang are linking a beloved 93 year old man with a Master Criminal, in order to profit from his computer illiteracy, and use the name of his company by forming similarly named companies.

Your edits to Fowler McCormick

I can't seem to find the template that indicates an article is still being worked on. If you happen to know, I'd appreciate a clue. I work slowly, sometimes only a sentence a day, and that article is about 10 hours old. Do you have a specific reason for challenging Fowler McCormick's notability (i.e., you are familiar with him and believe he is not notable) or is it simply that the case has not been made? Also, I tend to add references when I type in the facts they support--that first sentence is pretty much based on facts already in Wikipedia articles (the ones to which the links point).Rose bartram (talk) 23:42, 18 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's just that the case hasn't been made yet. I've tagged Harold Fowler McCormick, Jr. with "underconstruction", but you might also consider moving it to a subpage of your user page, where you can work on the draft version whenever you have time. MuffledThud (talk) 10:24, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that was quick work! You got to the article within two minutes of me creating it! Ohconfucius ¡digame! 08:10, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Sounds like an interesting guy. MuffledThud (talk) 08:12, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, not many Ghits, but definitely interesting and notable. Ohconfucius ¡digame! 08:34, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: I've removed the category you've added, since Yakuts (ethnic group) ≠ Yakutsk (city).
btw, Uhhan (Уххан) is a pseudonym of the yakut journalist of questionable notability – there is no article about him on the russian wiki and I see no reason to have one here → I've tagged it for speedy. Skarebo (talk) 09:55, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, well spotted. I thought this was referring to the shaman deity Uhan, who is apparently venerated in a few Siberian republics. MuffledThud (talk) 09:59, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

International Housewares Association Page

Why would you want to have this page deleted? LizGere (talk) 16:41, 21 October 2009 (UTC)LizGere[reply]

Funnily enough, all I did was add Category:Professional associations to your article. But once I had saved, it turned out that the article I was editing had just been deleted, and I was adding a category to a new, empty page. :-) So I thought "Ah well", and nominated my own handiwork for deletion. MuffledThud (talk) 16:46, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my mistake, I misunderstood! LizGere (talk) 17:12, 21 October 2009 (UTC)LizGere[reply]

No worries! That was a slightly weird one, wasn't it. MuffledThud (talk) 20:46, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks you for finding this copyvio. After removing the screaming bold lines and reading the text i was halfway trying to decide if a band is notable if it explicitly failed to chart its only song while one of the members has a notable article on the wiki - and if the cleanup effort would be so severe it would need a complete rewrite to be kept. Of course this was all laced with the issue of the username being promotional. Believe me, that copyvio came just in time. Thanks, and as always nice seeing more people on new page patrol :). Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 19:59, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LOL... yeah, that eye-melting bolding. They had applied it separately to every last damn paragraph. A good external text editor undoes that quickly though. Notice how they chopped that copy & paste up into Copyvio McNuggets, to make it harder to spot? And yes you're right, it's great to see regulars on NPP. :-) MuffledThud (talk) 21:09, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Aaah, that explains why my own attempts to find a copyvio didn't find anything! Guess that looking for a clucking chicken isn't the best way to spot nuggets. Either way, im glad its on its way for food disposal tour. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 21:18, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have any ideas on how we can revolve the NPOV dispute ? I understand that immediately mentioning the political criticisms may seem a bit harsh, but it is a fact that many Catholic pro-life activists have expressed criticisms at CACG for its perceived soft stance on the abortion issue. [6][7] [8][9] ADM (talk) 13:18, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, but as it is half the article is a criticism, supported by one link to a political blog, with very little information about what the group does. I've never heard of them, but let's try to balance the article out a bit. MuffledThud (talk) 13:20, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

mattijs visser

thank you for advice and help, will work on references. are the publications i mentioned not references? or do i include the many (not important) press clipping?

further it is very important to keep my statement as that is what makes the work i do unique and for that fact people are looking for me.

thanks,

I'm happy to help. Everything in a biography of a living person must be properly sourced or deleted: see WP:BLP and WP:CITE for more info. If you'd like further help or info on this, please ask and I'll be glad to point you in the right direction.
But it's very important that you not put your personal statement on the article about you: please see Wikipedia:AUTOBIO (particularly the section WP:YOURSELF), and WP:NOTLINKEDIN. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 09:59, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you won't think I have shot your fox, but I had the opportunity today to check furniture reference books in a library (details on the article talk page) and, finding absolutely no reference to George Clemens, I have taken the article to AfD here. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:48, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shoot away! And thanks for making such an unusually thorough search. MuffledThud (talk) 15:55, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fowler McCormick

I'll keep working on it the way I have been, which to my knowledge is and has been an acceptable way of building an article on WP. I do not see the incomplete status of the article as a problem, because the only people who will know about it are those (and yes, I understand that you doubt they exist) who are interested in its subject. If someone wanted to know about Fowler McCormick, they would immediately see that the article is incomplete, and at any rate might appreciate knowing a little about his early life.

If it upsets you that much, go ahead and put it in as an article for deletion. If no one but me can see any reason to include him in WP, I'll cede the point and move on. It is my honest opinion that a person who figured as prominently as he in the life of Jung is worth a little space in WP. But I do not want to waste my time if at this point you already see it as something which will eventually have to be got rid of.Rose bartram (talk) 19:36, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't upset me at all, and it may well be about someone important as you suggest. The article may just need more work before it's ready to be included as an article. I've moved it to a subpage of your user page: User:Rose_bartram/Harold_Fowler_McCormick,_Jr., and linked it to your user page. If you don't want to work on it there then please feel free to delete it. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 19:41, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The notability guideline page states that a person is notable if s/he has received significant coverage in published, reliable secondary sources which are intellectually independent and independent of the subject. The McCormick article had already met those criteria before you chucked it, unless of course you want to make the case that the coverage in all four references already there is trivial. The burden of proof for that claim would be on the person making it. What notability guidelines did you use when deciding whether WP needed a George Clemens article? And you still have not provided a reference for any WP guideline that no incomplete pages are allowed. You must be a busy beaver, applying that one.Rose bartram (talk) 12:25, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The article hasn't been "chucked", it's been moved to User:Rose bartram/Harold Fowler McCormick, Jr., as noted above. It can be moved back to mainspace in seconds, whenever it's ready. Happy to help with this if you like. If you're interested in the George Clemens article, the AFD discussion is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/George Clemens, as noted above. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 12:34, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clearing tags

Hi,

I appreciate your reviewing the Laryngospasms page - just wanting to get things done properly. Many of the places the group has been featured are in journals that only allow access to members only. Still, I have 3rd-party references - how many would be considered enough? When can the article be reviewed for bias as I am a current member of the group? I fashioned our page after our European counterparts, the Amateur Transplants. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

Rich Leyh Richleyh (talk) 20:36, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've just gone through it and pruned it a little for WP:NPOV. But on second reading, I think it's got enough third part refs. Other editors might disagree, but I've removed the primary-ref tag since it was me that put it there. I've also added some links. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 21:06, 25 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ANALYSYS Page

Hi MuffledThud,

First of all, thank you for your help with cleaning up the Wiki page for ANALYSYS. You certainly are on top of things. I'm adding this page because I believe the company meets the reliable secondary source criteria, and several natoinal and local sources such as ZDNET, Baltimore Business Journal, and The Gazette (Maryland) have been cited or included to substantiate. Presuming you are in agreement that the page is worthy of inclusion into Wikipedia, could you please propose any suggestions regarding the tags you have made? I've made a few additional mods myself in advance of sending this message. Want to ensure that the content is friendly to the platform...

Thanks! Stevekolbe (talk) 04:22, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've made some changes as asked, but please have a read of WP:COI to learn about why it's a bad idea to write and article about your own company. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 15:07, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flomar

You recently redirected Flomar to Martian Child, since the original page noted that the name referred to the dog in that film. However, since the Martian Child page does not mention the dog at all, this seems like an unlikely redirect. I suspect it would have been better to nominate the page for deletion (either speedy or not), as it seems to be some new user's attempt to get his own dog's name into Wikipedia. This article is part of an educational assignment: (Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/User:Piotrus/Fall_2009#Articles_edited). Out of those 10 groups, this one seems to be really struggling; if you could explain to them on the article's talk page why the article is not acceptable as it is now and what they need to do to make it a proper stub, I'd appreciate it. I will of course do so myself, but I also want to have them engage in discussion with other community members (and in interactions that don't involve them getting a "your article was deleted" bot notices :D). Thanks, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 22:03, 26 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

have you got nothing better to do than delete pages that dont need to be deleted. Ulleskelf Vikings has nothing to do with you. OK - Better? / Worse?...

The article AustinFromNEW needs reliable, seconday sources per WP:RS that prove notability per WP:ARTIST and/or WP:BIO, and it doesn't look like those are available. MuffledThud (talk) 09:21, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You gave User:Xiekaibei a warning about the speedy deletion of Www.handbags.style.com, then shortly afterward you tagged User talk:Xiekaibei for speedy deletion because it contained promotional/advertising content as well. However, if the page had been speedy deleted, the user might never have seen your original warning. If someone has promotional/advertising content on their user talk page, but there are postings from other users (such as yourself) on the page, I believe it's better to just remove the promotional/advertising material rather than deleting the user talk page. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 17:19, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Due to the rude manner in which they did this all other guests of the show canceled in protest of their treatment to me. They are harassing me and the another guest in retaliation. This wiki was created by Anime St G to further defame me. I have been a guest at 150 conventions and have at times had to cancel my appearances or had my appearances canceled by the shows. This stub summarizes so little about my 10 year career. There is no reason for Anime St G to be mentioned. They are harassing me with this wiki, and promoting their show at my expense.
