July WMAU Melbourne Meetup

Hi, At last month's June meetup we discussed the idea of setting up a Training Course at a University of the Third Age (U3A) to be held in 2013 and named Becoming a Wikipedia editor. In order to get this course up and running we are calling for volunteers to help develop the idea, and either tutor part of the course, or provide one on one help to students in the class. All local Wikipedians are welcome to discuss this at our 11am meetup to be held this Sunday on 22 July. Please add your name to the attending list at Wikipedia:Meetup/Melbourne 23. Proposed deletion of Jonathon Coleman

The article Jonathon Coleman has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Designing the sculpture awarded to the winner of the Groucho Maverick Award seems to be the only claim to any importance here. There's no evidence of significant independent reliable coverage about Coleman. The article is basically a CV liberally sprinkled with name-dropping of more famouse artists. Fails WP:GNG and WP:ARTIST.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Invitation to Adelaide Wikipedia Users Group meetings

Hi, in case you're not already aware of it, a group of Adelaide Wikipedians has been meeting on a monthly basis since April, with the aim of improving the scope and quality of articles on South Australian topics. We meet at UniSA's City West campus, and our 23 July meeting will have a guest speaker from the National Trust of SA.

This coming Sunday, 6 July, we will be holding our first Edit-a-thon. This will be an opportunity for new editors to come and learn either basic or more advanced editing from very experienced wikipedians, so if you know anyone who would like to get some practice, please let them know - and beginners will be very welcome. There's some uninformed speculation online that Mr Cruel kidnapped, raped and killed Kylie and i don't want that to infect Kylie's article. I don't think that Mr Cruel did it - Mr Cruel was careful not to leave forensic evidence, and whoever raped and killed her left their sperm, pubic hair and DNA all over Kylie. Extended confirmed protection

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
