Editor using both account and IP

I found an editor who is editing various pages with both his main account and an IP. He is not being disruptive or violating anything at WP:ILLEGIT (besides possibly WP:LOUTSOCK), but is simply making edits in conjunction with the two (for example, making a change with his main account and then updating the update date with the IP). Would this violate anything, or is he good? interstatefive  02:45, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Have you notified them? If so, I would recommend blocking the IP to force use of just one account, then it is easier to attribute edits. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 12:48, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Sungodtemple I have notified them, and they stated it wasn't them. However, a WHOIS check I did on two IPs I suspected he used were both from New South Wales, which the user has disclosed he is from. It could be an extreme coincidence, but maybe not.
And by the way, I'm not an admin :P interstatefive  22:36, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Now that you are sure this is intentional, maybe notify of WP:BADSOCK#Contributing to the same page or discussion with multiple accounts, which explicitly prevents contributing with multiple accounts. Also, to be transparent, probably tell them about this thread. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 22:49, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. And for reference, the account is @Josh the newcastle fan. interstatefive  00:17, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Interstatefive has sent me a link to this discussion so I could defend myself. I just need to say, a mistake has been made, I am not using any alternate accounts to edit, I am a long term editor who has been editing on Wikipedia for over 13 years. I have no reason to use an alternate account. I have had a look at the Ip address in question, and the edits it is making is simply changing the date on a player article to indicate when it has last been updated. This is a very common occurrence on rugby league player articles and you'll find most of the time it is done by these anonymous IP addresses without an account. The reason given that is suspecting me of me being this anonymous account is that we are both from New South Wales. With all due respect, New South Wales is a massive Australian state that is larger than Texas. It has over 30 cities in it. Rugby league is most popular in the state of New South Wales, if you want to have a look, you will find most editors of rugby league articles will come from this same state. I am sorry if this appears like a rant, but I have been editing here for a long time and I don't wish for anything to happen to my account, I hope you will understand. Josh the newcastle fan (talk) 07:37, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, seems legit. It's not like the articles are getting vandalized or anything. I hope. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 01:09, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
They are simply being updated to the current date when a player's statistics have been updated. As I said, this is often done by a lot of these anonymous users. If you have any further questions or concerns about this, feel free to send a message to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rugby league, a project which I am apart of and they will help to assure you that this is a common practise with rugby league articles. Referencing errors on Flirting

Reference help requested. I have just started editing and after editing a page,I received a message from a bot saying""‪CS1 error on Flirting‬"." How do I address this? Thanks, Swetha Karthik (talk) 06:06, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Swetha Karthik Your addition has been reverted by another editor. Among other things, you added an external link into the text of the article, which is against the guidelines at WP:EL. For other matters, you should use the Talk Page at Talk:Flirting to discuss improvements to the article, after reading WP:CITE. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:33, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Page: Rostov-on-Don; paragraph: "Notable people"

Good morning. The paragraph "Notable people" is organized and structured very badly, to the point that I would rather not change anything, because I could be wrong, since in some parts it is not understandable at all, and in all other parts almost nothing is understood. Could someone take care of the paragraph I refer to and put it in order? The page in question is: Rostov-on-Don. JackkBrown (talk) 10:15, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@JackkBrown: Hi there! I suggest you post your request on Talk:Rostov-on-Don, and specify which parts you think are organized and structured very badly, and which parts you think are not understandable. Looks like some editor(s) decided to use prose instead of a list format. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 13:55, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @GoingBatty: done. JackkBrown (talk) 13:41, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JackkBrown: I see you posted at Talk:Rostov-on-Don#Paragraph: "Notable people", and again suggest that you include specific examples of what you think is not understandable. GoingBatty (talk) 13:48, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: done, according to your advice. JackkBrown (talk) 14:28, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JackkBrown: You mention "a singer", but not the name of the singer. Please don't make people guess what your concerns are - provide the details! GoingBatty (talk) 15:15, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    @GoingBatty: all details were provided. JackkBrown (talk) 15:42, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Make sandbox edit live

Hi I'm a layman and I am trying to make the sandbox live. Can you help me with this as I don't know what else I need to do. A German site already exists - https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Aschwanden. I'm aware that they have thousand request like mine. But I still thank you for your support.

    Kind regards Patrick Aschwanden Patrick19652311 (talk) 10:37, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@hi @Patrick19652311 and welcome to the Help Desk! I've added an Articles for Creation banner to your draft, and you may follow the instructions on this banner when submitting. but first, are you related to Herbert (or are they just someone who happens to share the same surname with you)? if you are, please read the policy conflict of interest and disclose it somewhere, like your user page. happy editing! 💜  melecie  talk - 11:31, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick19652311 I assume that you began by copying this as a translation from the German article. It is important that you acknowledge that fact as described at WP:TRANSLATE. In particular you must attribute the original source and authors in all derivative works. Mike Turnbull (talk) 13:27, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What is the threshold needed for a female pornstar to get an article?

I'm thinking of writing an article for Mia Melano which deleted before for not being sourced properly. I noticed she has articles in other languages per wikidata. But after doing some quick checking I have noticed that even the big name pornstars have been nominated for deletion at least once. The ones who didn't even make the big leagues just flat out got deleted. Is there a higher standard for pornstars to meet WP:GNG? I'm rather hesitant on starting an article on this only for it to be deleted.

If anyone here has experience editing pornography articles, from a quick check, do you think this person has a chance of filling the notability criteria? Imcdc Contact 13:18, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Imcdc: WP:NPORN redirects to Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Entertainers, which has a note about pornographic actors. You may wish to ask for assistance at Wikipedia:WikiProject Pornography. GoingBatty (talk) 13:48, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no different standard applied. But it would not be surprising if reliable sources tended to publish less about porn stars than about some other classes of entertainer. That (significant coverage in reliable sources) is basically the only thing that will satisfy Wikipedia's criteria. "Making the big league" is not relevant to Wikipedia unless it translates into that.
I suggest having a read of BACKWARD, and 42, and looking for several (say, at least 3) sources that meet the requirement. If you can find them, go ahead. If you can't, don't waste your time. ColinFine (talk) 15:11, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Editting - Error

Hi, I keep getting the same error message when I edit. I've made sure I'm following all the rules. If I do minor edits they get approved but when it's not a minor edit it gets hit with:

An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, so it has been disallowed. If this edit is constructive, please report this error. Disruptive behavior may result in being blocked from editing. Emele HKNHN (talk) 15:41, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Emele HKNHN You have a very weird Google link in the edits that you are attempting. That might be triggering the filter. I'm wondering if you have an association with Brian Halligan? 331dot (talk) 15:49, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, you seem to be trying to embed a Google search as a wikilink, which is a very odd thing to do. As far as I know, it cannot work - wikilinks are only to Wikimedia projects. You would have to do it as an external link, but that would not be acceptable for two reasons. First, the use of external links within text (other than for citations) is very strongly restricted, and almost never appropriate. Secondly, linking to a Google search is almost never appropriate from anywhere in a Wikipedia article, because it will not necessarily produce the same results at different times or for different users. What you need to do is a citation to a (specific) reliable source. ColinFine (talk) 18:17, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ColinFine It's possible to link to several external sites via interwiki links (see Special:Interwiki for a list). The closest one which I am aware of is cache:, e.g. [[:cache:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Wales]], which results in cache:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Wales Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 18:37, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. You're right - and google: is in that list. I stand corrected. But I believe the rest of my reply stands. ColinFine (talk) 18:59, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cost of building a church structure

    cosy of building a church structure 102.89.33.73 (talk) 19:41, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is the help desk for the English Wikipedia. The purpose of this help desk is to help you with questions about using or contributing to Wikipedia. It is not a general reference desk. I would recommend our reference desk, except your question is rather vague for them. There would be a huge variation in the cost of building a church building, depending on the geographic location of the building, the size of the building (e.g., is this for a congregation of 100 or 3,000?), and what features the church requires. I suggest you refine your query considerably. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:47, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Durham Report

The Durham Report should be on the front page of Wikipedia. The Durham Report is a 306-page assessment of FBI malfeasance. It is probably the biggest news story in at least three years. 67.48.168.75 (talk) 22:01, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Per Durham special counsel investigation, in both trials, Durham alleged the defendants had deceived the FBI, rather than alleging the FBI acted improperly toward Trump. So the FBI isn't to blame here. But that's not the point. If editors find the story big enough for the main page, it'll be posted. LilianaUwU (talk / contributions) 22:09, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For four years, Durham's fans promised widespread indictments of prominent public officials. Instead, one bit player pled guilty to a minor charge and got probation, and two other bit players were acquitted. Durham failed completely as a prosecutor and the report is a nothingburger. durham? you mean the home of The Canopener?
anyway: I know nothing about this (though I live in the other side of the world and don't care about American politics), but only if it, and once it has, has had major effects in the US society or government, which it seems to have not had yet. since the In the News section serves a global audience, it has to only include those kinds of news that have become big enough to cause effects in one country or affects many countries. consider this analogy: does your national newspaper report about every single minute detail of county issues no matter how minor they are? happy editing! 💜  melecie  talk - 23:22, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Rollback rights

I am looking to reduce vandalism. What requirements are there for me to qualify to be a roll backer? I have been turned down in the past, so I wonder what I am missing? Pablothepenguin (talk) 00:45, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Pablothepenguin You have applied for rollback five times: Nov 2014, May 2017, Dec 2017, August 2018, and July 2022. Looking at the reasons for the recent denial, they wanted "recent anti-vandalism work". I would only re-apply for rollback if you can demonstrate recent and substantial anti-vandalism work. — Mdaniels5757 (talk • contribs) 01:13, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pablothepenguin. Please read Wikipedia:Rollback. As an administrator, I have the rollback right as a matter of course. I very rarely use it. In my opinion, it is a blunt tool that too often tempts editors to act rashly. Instead, I go to the edit history and find the most recent unvandalized version of the article and revert to that version. If two vandals, or a vandal and their sockpuppets have been messing around with an article, rollback may only remove some but not all of the vandalism. Cullen328 (talk) 01:21, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cullen328, I have noted your comments and have decided that I should pursue administrator status. I have unfortunately been turned down for that too, so I am convinced that I haven’t been doing enough editing to be given these powers. May I assume that I’ll need a few thousand more edits and some experience at assisting less experienced users? Is there anything else I would need for that? I hope to some day be able to help with this Wiki’s maintenance and upkeep. Pablothepenguin (talk) 15:09, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to butt in, but Pablo, I'd recommend reading WP:RFAADVICE. Among other things, successful candidates usually have thousands of edits, while I see you barely have one thousand at this time. My personal recommendation would be to give it another six months of active editing and then check your edit count before going any further down that road. DonIago (talk) 15:18, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Pablothepenguin: If you don't use it already, you might want to check out Twinkle, which can be used to revert vandalism edits and leave warnings on the users' talk pages. GoingBatty (talk) 01:59, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    ...and also RedWarn, which does a similar thing. 💜  melecie  talk - 02:33, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    • Pablo: A further word of advice: You're averaging probably a dozen article edits per year: [1]. I would expect a minimum of a few hundred such edits in a year before considering approving advanced permissions. --Jayron32 15:24, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if this will be helpful: but my experience has been that it's better to interact with Wikipedia as a regular user rather than seeking adminship or extra tools. For example, if countering vandalism is what you want to do, go ahead and fight vandalism with reverts. And do a lot of it. Once it's visibly the case that that's how you're spending your time, and that you're doing it responsibly and well, then it will be easier to ask for permission to use tools - if, indeed, you feel you really need them by that stage. Hello, I would refer to Template:Episode list. It looks like your start is correct. What specifically did you need? Heart (talk) 02:36, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) @BreadGuy1922AUTOMOBILE: Hi there! There are instructions and examples at Template:Episode table and Template:Episode list. Pictures on articles

Hi! I often search for pictures to illustrate my lessons and I use only copyright free material. I'm quite surprised that many pictures on Wikipedia don't look very good. Yet there are plenty of websites with copyright free pictures to choose from.

A good example is the article bee versus this beautiful copyright free picture on Pexels [1].

My question is: is it allowed to change pictures to make the articles better looking?171.224.177.118 (talk) 02:42, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! Yes, you are allowed to upload pictures and change pictures to make articles better looking, as long as you follow the Wikipedia:Image use policy and the picture has the appropriate free license tag, such as the CC0 tag this image has. I enjoy using the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard, which would upload the image to Wikimedia Commons. (Note there are thousands of pictures of bees already uploaded to Commons.) Happy editing! Closing the spaces between refs

I did a search and found approximately 33,000 occurences of </ref> <ref (which would generate a space between two reference numbers above [5] [6] instead of [5][6]. Is there any reason why those should be kept? If not, would a request on WP:BOTREQ be appropriate? (If there were only 500-1000, I'd use WP:AWB, but 33,000 seems like the level for a bot) Naraht (talk) 07:51, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Me too. It's not a great problem, but slightly wrong and looks untidy. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:31, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It has to do with WP:REFSPACE. It's not something that's going mean the end of Wikipedia if left unaddressed, but it's probably something that should eventually be cleaned up. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:37, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's listed at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/General fixes#FixReferenceTags (FixReferenceTags) so many cases are fixed by AutoWikiBrowser when somebody uses it anyway on affected pages. I think the issue is too small for a dedicated bot run per Wikipedia:Bots/Dictionary#Cosmetic edit. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:45, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Kevin John Conway (from Canada)

why do you not have a wiki page for Kevin John Conway of British Columbia? He was in Titanic 1996 and Atomic Train 1999. Clux327 (talk) 19:29, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Clux. The answer to the question "Why do you not have an article on ... " is usually "Because none of thousands of vounteer editors, such as you and me, have chosen to write one." Sometimes the answer is "Because somebody has thought of writing one, and looked for reliable sources and couldn't find enough to establish that the subject meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability. And occasionally the answer is "There was an article, but it was deleted because it was not appropriate".
If you think that there is is enough material published about Conway to ground an article, you're welcome to try - though I should warn you that writing an article is one of the most difficult tasks there is for new editors. My suggestion would be that you hang around for a few weeks or months, finding existing articles that you are interested in and making improvements, and thereby learning how Wikipedia works. Then when you are ready, study your first article, and see if you can find suitable sources and write a draft from them. ColinFine (talk) 19:41, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, does anyone know how to add a timestamp to a reference when citing a video? What parameter is used? Cheers. — MaxnaCarta  ( 💬 • 📝 ) 01:15, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MaxnaCarta: If you use {{Cite AV Media}}, there is a "minutes" or "time" parameter you can specify for this. RudolfRed (talk) 01:24, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed mmm that one adds a reference to the reference list. I have for example, got a media referenced like this in my bibliography. I have a separate footnote list. So what I want is an SFNP reference: ie:
    References
    [1] McCune 2006, timestamp 4:05
    Bibliography
    • McCone 2006, Investigators.
Article specifically is Murder of Vivianne Ruiz. I cited a video 15 times. GA reviewer would like timestamps (as would I actually, but couldn't work it out myself when authoring). I try to add a custom parameter and it says "not recognised" — MaxnaCarta  ( 💬 • 📝 ) 01:28, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Superman870: Hi there! See the article ChatGPT for more information. Blog posts have no place on Wikipedia, per WP:NOTBLOG. GoingBatty (talk) 04:04, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
...but if you mean if you can use it for blogposts outside Wikipedia, it depends on if your editor would accept it (if you have one), and if you don't it's pretty much your choice. I personally don't like using ChatGPT/other AI for writing blogposts or stuff, but it's your chocie in the end of the day. Happy editing! 💜  melecie  talk - 08:21, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a reference link on Mobile commerce page

We have recently done a survey on m-commerce and I added that link on wikipedia page. What is the process for approving that link. Vijetakhurana20 (talk) 06:59, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a link to a site you are involved in is a conflict of interest, and you should always ask (usually on the article's talk page) rather than adding it yourself.
Furthermore, the use of external links in Wikipedia articles (other than for citations to reliable sources to verify particular statements in the article) are tightly controlled: see ELYES. ColinFine (talk) 08:19, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Additing citation that is on a blacklist

    Hello,

I have edited the Hollandsche Rading railway station page to include update information in the train services table based on the 2023 timetable. I would like to cite the published timteable however it seems the website is blacklisted. I have gone through the local and global list but cannot find the regex line that matches the cited website. The website in question is run by the Dutch national railway (NS). Is there a way I can whitelist or find which regex line blocks this exact website and have it fixed (I have found the whitelist process but cannot actually locate which list blocks the site)?

    Thank you and regards,

    Pesky ThePeskyPotato (talk) 11:13, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

ThePeskyPotato, the fact that you managed to create an external link indicates that it is not in the blacklist. I'm linking it again! Instead, I think, as a new user, you introduced a new external link and triggered a captcha. Most issues like this can usually be solved by making more edits. There are many restrictions in place for new users.Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 11:54, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ThePeskyPotato: Try again. There are fewer restrictions when your account is four days old and has made ten edits. The post here was your 11th edit which is why you could easily save the link. Before that there should have been an option to fill in a captcha when you add external links. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:15, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Sungodtemple and @PrimeHunter. I've made a second attempt but got the same message:
"Something went wrong. Your edit was not saved because it contains a new external link to a site registered on Wikipedia's blacklist or Wikimedia's global blacklist...."
Maybe I need to have an older account and/or make more minor edits before including an external citation.
    ThePeskyPotato (talk) 12:28, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ThePeskyPotato: You tried to add the url https://bit.ly/3YslLe0. We don't allow URL shortening services because they hide the real source until you click them. Simply add the link you posted here: https://nieuws.ns.nl/spoorkaart-2023-hier-te-downloaden/. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:47, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter Thanks for helping me debug that. I gave it a third attempt with the URL of the site (not bit.ly) from the visual editor. Automatic citation formatting then switches to the bit.ly URL, it might be that the site redirect to the URL shortner, whcih is odd. I had to manually add it in and now it works.
    Thanks again. ThePeskyPotato (talk) 12:59, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ThePeskyPotato: Thanks for saying how you encountered the problem. I can reproduce it in VisualEditor. The HTML source of https://nieuws.ns.nl/spoorkaart-2023-hier-te-downloaden/ says <meta property="og:url" content="https://bit.ly/3YslLe0" />. It indicates that the website recommends using that url. There are often good reasons for a website to state a preferred url within their own domains but it sounds dumb to recommend an external URL shortener. I will look for a place to report that our citation tools should ignore such recommendations. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:20, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    I have reported it at phab:T336935. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:44, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter Thank you for finding that, I was looking at the HTTP status code but only saw 200, didn't think to check the meta tags! ThePeskyPotato (talk) 16:47, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    Problem with ZooOrg template

There is a template:ZooOrg which provides standard links to peak zoo organizations. But the links it produces for World Association of Zoos and Aquariums and Zoo and Aquarium Association (at least) are broken. I took a screenshot shot of this. I don’t know why anyone thinks this is funny. Even if there’s accusations brought forth in court against a person, it should be worded much better in the article.

One would think that these ridiculous antics would not be tolerated for editors. Or any kind of changes should go through a vetting process.

    Question about events portal

I'm a bit confused as to what counts as notable/not notable when it comes to adding things to the portal. Specifically today, Portal:Current_events/2023_May_18, I don't know if we should add this event or not so someone more experienced can tell me if it counts or not. In Charlotte, NC today, there was a gigantic 5-Alarm fire that required the response of nearly 90 medics/firefighters, the evacuation of nearly 100 people, the rescue during the fire of 15, one person sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and at least 2 people still missing. A parking garage under construction caught fire - supposedly, right now, from a faulty foam sprayer igniting - and the fire spread to an apartment complex also under construction. Is this noteworthy enough to put, or not? I didn't want to put it just yet but I have many news articles handy for citations if it does need to be put. EEBuchanan (talk) 19:32, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what the criteria are for including events in those lists. I suggest you ask at Portal talk:Current events. ColinFine (talk) 23:25, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Of course, The Thief (TV series). Check the Arabic version and you will see the movie poster. Chacabangaso (talk) 07:44, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Chacabangaso: Non-free files are local files; in other words, if you want to use the same file currently being used in the Arabic Wikipedia article about the TV series in the English Wikipedia article about the series, you will need to upload a version of it to English Wikipedia. You can do this by downloading the file from Arabic Wikipedia onto your computer and then reuploading it to English Wikipedia using the Wikipedia:Upload Wizard. However, not all local Wikipedia projects have absolutely the same policies when it comes to non-free content use and you will need to make sure that any file you upload to English Wikipedia satisfies English Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:59, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Chacabangaso, you have been trying to upload a non-free image to Wikimedia Commons. This is completely wrong. Wikimedia Commons accepts only freely licensed and public domain images. Non-free works are simply not permitted there. Images that fully comply with WP:NFCI must be uploaded here on English Wikipedia for strictly limited use, normally in a single designated article. Images on Wikimedia Commons, on the other hand, can be used by anybody, anywhere, for any purpose, with no permission required, with the only requirement being attribution in some cases. These are dramatically different licensing scenarios. Cullen328 (talk) 08:01, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Undeletion of Biographies: Professor Matjaž Klemenčič and Professor Mitja Žagar

    Dear Users,

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to kindly request the undeletion of two biographies that I recently added to Wikipedia. The biographies in question are about distinguished Slovene researchers, Professor Matjaž Klemenčič and Professor Mitja Žagar. Unfortunately, the content was deleted, and I would like to address any concerns and have it restored. I want to assure you that I adhered to all Wikipedia rules and regulations while creating these biographies. I made every effort to ensure that the content complied with the community's content policies, such as providing reliable sources, maintaining a neutral point of view, and avoiding any promotional or biased language.

Both Professor Matjaž Klemenčič and Professor Mitja Žagar have made significant contributions to their respective fields, and their achievements are widely recognized. Including their biographies on Wikipedia would provide valuable information to readers interested in their work and accomplishments.

I kindly request that you reconsider the deletion and restore the biographies. If there are any specific concerns or issues with the content, I am more than willing to address them promptly. I am committed to ensuring that the biographies meet the high standards set by Wikipedia. Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to your favorable response. If you require any additional information or clarification, please let me know. I genuinely believe that these biographies deserve a place on Wikipedia, and I appreciate your consideration. Doncsecztalk 05:41, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    @Doncsecz~enwiki Hi there!
Others will be able to help you better than I can, but I wanted to point out that those articles weren't "deleted"; they were just moved to the draftspace. Now, if they go six months without any revisions being done to them, then yes they would get outright deleted (at that point you would ask for their undeletion). From a glance, Klemencic has only 2 external links, and Zagar only 3. So you need more sources than that (along with footnotes/inline citations). I hope this answers at least some of your concerns.
(By the way, I recommend checking those articles out on other Wikipedia sites if they have them, as they could have more sources there. I know this because the Russian Wikipedia can have a lot more sources for certain articles than the English one, for example). Losipov (talk) 06:04, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Both of these lacked reliable secondary sourcing. I can't comment on how notable these people are, but the article always needs sourcing. It cannot be written like a LinkedIn profile.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:12, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Doncsecz~enwiki: Here on the English Wikipedia, the move to draft space is a good sign. It means the initial reviewing editor did not choose to delete the article or nominate it for deletion, because the editor felt that there is hope that the article can be improved. The absolutely critical issue for you is to add references that demonstrate that these subjects meet our notability requirements: see WP:NACADEMIC. -Arch dude (talk) 19:15, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

    How to work with tables

Hatnote for article that is available on another language wikipedia

I'm wondering what to do regarding a hatnote where the "you could have also meant" is not available on the English wikipedia but only on the German one. The concrete example is Peter Bogner. The English wikipedia is about a German-American businessman. However the German wikipedia talks about a different Peter Bogner who is an art historian. This could be confusing. How to best resolve this?

I could only find guidance that one should not hatnote link to a redlink. But in this case, it could make sense to link to the German language article instead. AncientWalrus (talk) 12:50, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@AncientWalrus: Use the {{Interlanguage link}} template. My only concern with that the articles have the same title, so the template may not work correctly to identify that the artist is a red link here and a blue link there. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 12:56, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
