Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial requests
Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any reasonable possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use {{subst:RMassist|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required. If you object to a proposal listed here, please relist it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
- List of number-one hits in Italy → List of number-one hits (Italy) — For consistency with similar articles — Funk Junkie (talk) 12:40, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Vergatorio → Vergatario — correct spelling — Mike R (talk) 15:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Incomplete and contested proposals
With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move proposal, please do not discuss move proposals here. If you support an incomplete or contested move proposal, please consider following the instructions above to complete the proposal, and move it to the "Other proposals" section below under the current date. Proposals that remain incomplete after seven days will be removed.
- 99X (Atlanta) → WWWQ-HD2 — Station orginiates from WWWQ-HD2, hence the station's page should be located at that spot. — NeutralHomer • Talk • 15:24, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
- Oppose. Station always identifies as "99X on 97.9", which is W250BC, not WWWQ. W250BC has parent station WNNX, not WWWQ. -HD2 does not exist as a legal suffix for a radio station. Other proposals
Please use the correct template; see the instructions above. Do not attempt to copy and paste formatting from another listing. |

- QuickPWN → QuickPwn — (Discuss) — Preferred capitalization of the software is "QuickPwn" according to the developer's blog [1] — 71.236.164.204 (talk) 09:16, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- List of Ambassadors from the United Kingdom to Egypt → List of British colonial administrators and diplomatic envoys in Egypt —(Discuss)— The current title only covers a section of the list, which includes Consuls-General and High Commissioners in addition to Ambassadors. The new title is far more accurate, whereas the current title omits 53 years of history. --BomBom (talk) 00:43, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
11 May 2009
- Khurba → Komsomolsk-on-Amur Airport —(Discuss)— It describes the military aspect of the same airport --Thenoflyzone (talk) 22:49, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Portuguese composers → List of Portuguese composers - follows the pattern (List of Danish composers, List of Canadian composers, etc.) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 21:42, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Special Operations Support Command → Sustainment Brigade (Special Operations) (Airborne) —(Discuss)— unit designation changed on December 2, 2005 --noclador (talk) 11:18, 11 May 2009 (UTC) --noclador (talk) 11:18, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- 3,4-Methylenedioxy-N-methylamphetamine → MDMA —(Discuss)— A late listing, as this has been discussed for the last week at the article talk page. Consensus appears to be in favour of MDMA as the article title, but administrator help is needed for the move. --Physchim62 (talk) 07:03, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Vladimir Varičak → Vladimir Varićak —(Discuss)— "Vladimir Varićak" is the correct spelling. Evidence is presented on the article's talk page. --GregorB (talk) 06:56, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Alexander Prokofiev de Seversky → Alexander P. de Seversky –(Discuss) –In reviewing the edit history of the aforementioned article, I noted that the article was redirected from Alexander P. de Seversky, which is the form that de Seversky himself used in identifying himself as an author. I have not found any authoritative sources that use the full name: Alexander Prokofiev de Seversky. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 02:30, 11 May 2009 (UTC).
- Ben-and-but → But and ben —(Discuss)— This is the commonly (or possibly only) term used in Scotland. --Mutt Lunker (talk) 00:25, 11 May 2009 (UTC) Mutt Lunker (talk) 00:25, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Negotiable cow → The Negotiable Cow. This is the name of the article. SimonTrew (talk) 00:10, 11 May 2009 (UTC)
- Bryan 'Pop' Robson → Pop Robson —(Discuss)— It is highly unlikely that anyone ever referred to this man as "Bryan 'Pop'". Since I'm fairly sure that he was most commonly known as "Pop", I believe that this article should be located at Pop Robson. --– PeeJay 00:08, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

- Ithica 27ϕ9 → Ithica 27 ϕ 9 — (Discuss) — The spaces between the ϕ symbol can be clearly seen on the Ten Rapid CD and booklet and the single cover as evidenced here. Apparently the new page name is black-listed?! — U-Mos (talk) 19:34, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- The Five Mrs. Buchanans → The 5 Mrs. Buchanans —(Discuss)— The logo screencap clearly establishes the use of the numeral in the title. --— TAnthonyTalk 17:32, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Uhura → Nyota Uhura - (Discuss) - The character of Uhura never had an "official" first name, but the name "Nyota" was used for years in unofficial fiction, as well as by Nichelle Nichols, the actress who portrayed the character. The 2009 Trek film firmly establishes that "Nyota" is, in fact, the characters first name, so I think it's time to make the name official on the page title. Aatrek (talk) 04:35, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Northern Cyprus → North Cyprus - (Discuss) - ongoing dispute therefore late tag. This is an ongoing dispute that possibly needs the attention of an admin. Should we create a new section and start the voting again? Some users are suggesting deleting the section from the talk page, is that allowed? The section is here: Talk:Northern_Cyprus#Voting_for_Moving_the_Article_To_North_Cyprus. WillMall (talk) 03:50, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
- Vector Man Series → Vectorman —(Discuss)— Vectorman is, I think, clearly the title of the series (to the point where googling "vector man" asks if you meant "vectorman"), and it is unnecessary to add "series" to the article title because there's nothing to disambiguate it with. The page is the copy-pasted contents of Vectorman and Vectorman 2, and I don't know what's necessary to get the histories in sync again. Nifboy (talk) 00:44, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
9 May 2009
- Brian Nelson (disambiguation) → Brian Nelson —(Discuss)— Originally there were only two Brian Nelson's on Wikipedia, so it was decided one would be the primary page, and the second would be disambiguated as "Brian Nelson (descriptor)" with a top hat saying "not to be confused with the other Brian Nelson". There was also a "Brian Nelson (disambiguation)" page created. Then about a month later, a third Brian Nelson was added to Wikipedia. What should happen? My understanding is, the "Brian Nelson" page becomes the new dab page, the "Brian Nelson (disambiguation)" page goes away (redirects to "Brian Nelson" which is now the dab page), and the three Brian Nelson's now all have the format "Brian Nelson (descriptor)". See for example David Thompson. The case where a "Fistname Lastname (disambiguation)" is used are like George Washington (disambiguation), when it is a very famous individual, which is not the case here. No one Brian Nelson deserves special treatment over any other Brian Nelson and so the primary name space should be a dab page. Green Cardamom (talk) 15:14, 9 May 2009 (UTC) --Green Cardamom (talk) 15:14, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Recklessness (criminal) → Recklessness (law) —(Discuss)— Per WP:NCDAB, the disambiguating word should be either the generic class which includes the topic (perhaps "legal term" in this case) or the subject or context in which the topic applies ("law" or maybe "criminal law"). The use of the disambiguating word in this case is not really in keeping with our naming conventions, as it seems like it's just an attempt to fit "Recklessness, criminal" into the frame of Wikipedia's disambiguation system. --—/Mendaliv/2¢/Δ's/ 12:34, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Why wouldn't this be better just as Criminal recklessness? Jgm (talk) 12:37, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
- Syed Ahmed (entrepreneur) → Syed Ahmed —(Discuss)— There is no other person which has the exact same name of "Syed Ahmed", and should be directed to that page, plus there is a disambiguation page for other users Syed Ahmed (disambiguation) which can be provided at the top of the page. --Bangali71 (talk) 09:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

- Resia Pass → Reschen Pass — (Discuss) — Resia is an Italian translation of this pass between Austria and the German-speaking part of Italy (translation created in 1906 by Ettore Tolomei). Google returns twice as many hits in English for Reschenpass than for Resia Pass and naming convention for this province states that, if there is no commonly used English name, to use the name of the local population (in this case 97% German) — noclador (talk) 20:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- Lake Resia → Reschensee — (Discuss) — same as above for Reschenpass — noclador (talk) 20:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
- 7.62 Tkiv 85 → 7.62 TKIV 85 — (Discuss) — Name is an abbreviation for a Finnish term, should be capitalized. — Koalorka (talk) 18:35, 7 May 2009 (UTC) Koalorka

- Blue Dragon Ral Grad → Ral Grad —(Discuss)— MOSTM Guidelines - According to the MOSTM the article title should be the most common English title. The "Blue Dragon Ral Grad" title was used as per the German Manga, which used Blue Dragon as the main title and Ral Grad as a Sub title. However the official english manga release by Shonen Jump has been named Ral Grad, as such the title should be reverted. - Stryyder--72.37.171.52 (talk) 22:52, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Davidson Prize → Rollo Davidson Prize —(Discuss)— I created this page with the title Davidson Prize covering numerous prizes with that name. I've now removed references to these as they aren't notable. The full title of the remaining prize the article discusses is the Rollo Davidson Prize (see, for example the Cambridge University Reporter). The official website uses both the term Prize and Award, but Prize is much more commonplace. A Google book search (I can't seem to successfully link from here) returns numerous results for "Rollo Davidson Prize", but none for "Rollo Davidson Award". --Gareth Jones (talk) 22:08, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Favorite → [[:to redirect to Favourite]] —(Discuss)— WP:ENGVAR - redirect for primary meaning. The current contents should go to Favorite (disambiguation), which currently redirects back to Favorite. There is no reason for US/UK spellings to be treated differently. --Johnbod (talk) 15:57, 7 May 2009 (UTC) Johnbod (talk) 15:57, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- This proposal is actually Favorite → Favourite (disambiguation), so that the base name can be made a redirect to Favourite. -- JHunterJ (talk) 16:48, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- Gardner-Webb University Athletics → Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs — (Discuss) — Proper naming convention for college/university athletics pages — Geologik (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2009 (UTC) Geologik (talk) 22:19, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Circumcision in some cultures and religions → Circumcision in the Bible —(Discuss)— Believe the weakness of the longer title is obvious, and the nonsubstance of the reasons for previously moving to the longer title has also been established at talk. --JJB 02:17, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
- The Oxford book of twentieth-century English verse → The Oxford Book of Twentieth Century English Verse —(Discuss)— There appears to be different capitalisation forms in use, and there are a variety of options here. The page move is to a capitalisation form that is on the publishes page.
I think that is is probably ok to keep the current heading, because Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(capital_letters)#All_caps indicates the use of lower case when the title is capitalised and the book cover uses capital for every letter.--Snowman (talk) 01:14, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

- Mathematics influence in art → Mathematics and art —(Discuss)— Contents of Mathematics and art have been merged into Mathematics influence in art, which was a longer and more comprehensive article. However, Mathematics and art is the better title for the merged article, as it is consistent with other titles such as Mathematics and architecture and Mathematics and music. --Gandalf61 (talk) 14:20, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Radio Station UVB-76 → UVB-76 —(Discuss)— The article name doesn't need "Radio Station" for disambiguation. --›mysid (☎∆✎) 13:26, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Longevity myths → Longevity narratives —(Discuss)— Or longevity folklore, or longevity stories. Second attempt; Talk:Longevity myths#Proposed move:Longevity narratives resulted in extended discussion among partisans rather than consensus. Reasons for move, stated there, are WP:WTA, scope (I believe it should be a list of narrative categories), WP:UNDUE weighting resulting from former title, improper arbitrary relationship between article and longevity claims, and Google test. You can read for yourself the reasons against move, as I would hesitate to summarize them. --JJB 13:22, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
- Perdido (Juan Tizol song) → Perdido —(Discuss)— Primary topic for the term. The article was moved to current title on the argument that "There's another song with that name". However, the other song(s) don't have an article and if they did, this one would still be the primary topic. --Jafeluv (talk) 13:10, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

- Stewart Island/Rakiura → Stewart Island —(Discuss)— Stewart Island redirects to this entry, so it appears unambiguous, and existing discussion strongly suggests that this is current local usage. --Septentrionalis PMAnderson 23:43, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Designated hitter → Designated hitter rule —(Discuss)— Article is more a discussion on the rule than on the player position. --KuyaBriBriTalk 18:48, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
- Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology University → KIIT University —(Discuss)— The university is more popularly known by its acronym and commonly uses its acronym without dots in between. --Amartyabag TALK2ME 08:11, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
