Uttara University (Bengali: উত্তরা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) or UU is a private university at Uttara, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The permanent campus of UU is a sprawling smart-city ultra-modern campus with state-of-the-art facilities [constructed in 2023]. It is situated in greater Uttara and is only 5 minutes from Uttara North Metro Rail Station.

UU, established in the year 2003 by Founder Sir M Azizur Rahman, offers 40+ programs at graduate and undergraduate levels. UU has 5 schools and 14 departments.

Convocation

The first convocation of Uttara University was held on 16 June 2009. The chancellor of Uttara University and the President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Md. Zillur Rahman presided over the convocation program, when 1088 graduate and undergraduate students received their certificates. A. A. M. S. Arefin Siddique, vice chancellor of Dhaka University was scheduled as the convocation speaker.

The second convocation of Uttara University was held on 4 July 2011.

The third convocation was held in 2014 for students who completed their degree between 2010 and 2014.

The fourth convocation took place in 2016 at BICC.

The fifth convocation took place in January 2017 at BICC.

The sixth convocation ceremony took place at International Convention City Bashundhara - 4 (ICCB) on the 30th of October 2018. The day long program was telecasted live on Channel i and more than 3,000 students graduated. The convocation was presided by the Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid MP and UGC Chairman Abdul Mannan.

The seventh convocation of UU was held on July 24, 2022, where 3,804 students graduated.

The eighth convocation was held on Tuesday 3 October 2023. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni was the convocation speaker.

Academic structure

Uttara University is organized into five schools and fourteen departments. The university offers 40 programs in undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There are 35+ full time professors and every department has a mix of senior, mid-level and dynamic junior faculty members. In recent times, UU has been shortlisted for inclusion in ranking at international levels. UU is at the forefront for frequently organizing conference and seminars on contemporary topics and is visited by international researchers and publishes a large number of journals and indexed publications. A separate Career Placement service under External Affairs office is in charge which directly caters to the internship and job placement needs of the graduates. Its academic structure is as follows:
