Feels Like the First Time

I apologize about the issue regarding the dab page for Feels Like the First Time. I admit I should have discussed it as a formal move request first, and I understand why you moved it back. So I am going to open a formal move request at Talk:Feels Like the First Time#Requested move 10 January 2018 to see how other users feel about the move, and I encourage you to give your opinion on why the Foreigner song is the primary topic. Thank you. JE98 (talk) 16:42, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

@JE98: - hey! Sorry for not replying sooner, my activity here has been patchy lately (blame law school). But first off, don't apologize! While you did arguably act against policy, you did so in good faith, and I certainly can't blame you for that. We all make mistakes. So, don't worry, and thank you for trying to improve WP - genuinely! I don't have any strong opinions to add to the move discussion, but thank you for notifying me! I appreciate that. Page curation

Re [1]. What have I done wrong here? I am a bit new to page curation. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 06:01, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

@Hawkeye7: - Hey! In all honestly I was meaning to review the page, not UN-review it, and in my deranged state I didn't realize that I was doing the opposite, and it had already been reviewed (to be fair the graphics for reviewing and unreviewing are pretty identical, though ;P). Sorry about that! I also think it's stupid that the browser notifies people when you unreview pages they curated at all.. seems like an awful waste. Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding. New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello El cid, el campeador, thank you for your efforts in reviewing new pages!
The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

Don't understand maintenance templates

You removed the {{lead missing}} template from the Beau Bokan article when it had a long introductory paragraph and no actual WP:LEDE. I manufactured a lede, even though it's not particularly good, but it does summarize the subject: he's a musician and he's best known for being a member of two bands. For some reason, you think that there should be more content added so you added {{lead too short}} and removed {{use mdy}}. The former states "This article's lead section does not adequately summarize key points of its contents." It doesn't? What other points need to be added to adequately summarize key points of who Bokan is? I can't see anything. The latter, is a piece of hidden communication as to what the appropriate date format is. It's used by bots when working on the article and to human editors so they don't use other date formats. I just thought I'd explain these things. The reason I'm commenting here is it's behavioural and doesn't make a difference to the article itself. This isn't like the two comments you left on my talk page. The first of which was specific to the content of the article. Just because the article had two sentences discussing the subject at the start does not mean it had a lede. I won't link you to the page on that subject again. The second was you being angry that I reverted you while I was starting to write this. For the record, yes, you do need to read edit notices. They're there for all editors. If you don't want to participate appropriately in the community effort of the project, you don't have to, but expect repercussions. I hope this helps explains my behaviour. Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:53, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

CIA activities in Peru, for example, has no lead. Having a lead that is too long or too short or that does not properly summarize the content does not mean there is no lead, and there are tags for all those issues. A lead is an opening paragraph, of any quality. The no-lead tag is a not a judgement call, it is an objective template for when there is no lead paragraph whatsoever. I am going through the pages missing lead category and doing my best to fix them, I was not looking for a debate. I don't understand why there was an issue. But let's leave this be and both agree to disagree. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 15:59, 28 February 2018 (UTC)

Hey!

You just deleted my whole article about Red Star Chickens! May I ask why!? Coolkid526 (talk) 01:01, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

@Coolkid526: - hello, I redirected it to the existing article at Sex link. I did this because your article: a) duplicated an existing topic; b) had extensive copyright and paraphrasing issues; c) was sourced from unreliable sources; and d) did not provide sufficient context on the topic. If you would like to expand the Sex link article using reliable sources and your own words, please do so! If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thanks ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 01:04, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

re: your redirect of List of Rump States

I've undone it, as there was no discussion, no consensus, and no justification offered in the edit summary or the talk page. The information in the List article was all cited, and none of the material from the List was incorporated into the rump state article. As per BRD, the addition of the redirect was a Bold move. It has been reverted. Now, its time to discuss and build a consensus. I welcome your input there. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 08:38, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

@Jack Sebastian: - it was done per the merge discussion on the rump states page. And it was not a redirect, but a merge, so all the cited content is now in the rump state page. No content was removed. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 14:15, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

I didn't propose the merge, and it looks like the nominator didn't follow proper protocol. But, I fail to see what harm was done, as two articles are now one, and no content or attribution was lost. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 14:23, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

You said A1 doesn't apply for non english article but the context doesn't explains titile by any means, so if A1 doesn't work can I add it under G1 or any such similar reasons? I can understand hindi and the text is not even connected to title it is a random story. Thanks-BRP ever 02:47, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

@BRPever:- hey! This is a difficult situation. Per official policy (found here: Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion), A1 and G1 BOTH explicitly do not apply to foreign language articles. Google translate says it appears to be about "Mr. Bhanwar Singh, son of Shri Bhanwar Singh". I cannot tell who this is - so I can't recommend a CSD. In this situation I can't make any better recommendation than PRODing it. WP policy is (for better or worse) set up in a way to avoid speedily deleting foreign articles simply for being foreign. I know this doesn't help, but I too am at a loss as to what to do. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 02:54, 25 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi, you added a tag for unreliable sources to the article Schießbach (Saale) I've created (click here). Can you explain this? I even had a discussion with another experienced user, who said that Google Maps refs are absolutely fine, see here. Also, I created a lot of similar river stubs and never had a problem.

--Cyfal (talk) 17:04, 8 May 2018 (UTC)

@Cyfal: - I see what you are referencing, but I am fairly sure Google Maps is not considered a reliable source. I don't know of any policy that says google maps is a reliable source, though I guess I could be wrong. However, having Google Maps as the only source for an article is not sufficient, in any case. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 20:32, 8 May 2018 (UTC)
Actually, I disagree – there may not be a policy saying google maps is a reliable source, on the other hand there seems to be no policy saying it's not reliable. hi

About Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of flags by number of colors (2nd nomination), where you commented about me sarcastically, that's okay, but I hope you don't really think poorly of me. :) If you'd care to browse my wp:AFDSTATS you would see I don't often comment anywhere near that much, and that I am more often than not with the final consensus. And however many edits I have, the vast majority are in mainspace contributions, mostly about historic sites. So you were a tad unfair, IMHO. But I grant that I gave some cause for a comment like yours, because it seems I did over-generalize about all the "delete" votes. Not diplomatic of me, though I was irritated by the quality of some of those votes. Do let's both avoid ad hominem comments at AFD. cheers, --Doncram (talk) 20:16, 15 May 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out. I certainly don't have anything against you or your edits outside of this particular AfD. But for whatever reason, your behavior within the AfD was uncivil and involved heckling every voter who disagreed with your view. It was textbook wp:bludgeoning. Even if you were certainly right, which I don't presume, your behavior was improper. So, while my tongue in cheek comment on the number of edits you made at the AfD may have been in poor taste, I stand by the fact that you should not behave that way in an AfD again. Of course, your behavior is your own choice and that is just my opinion. Best! ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 20:19, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Total count

Hi, and I like the feature icon on top of the talk page. Saw you gave a total-views count at the RM on the Favre page. I know the history link to the 20 day-90 day count, but how did you get the total count if I may ask. Sounds like an interesting stat link to have handy. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 16:43, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

When you are on the page views site, go to the options on the left side, then change Daily to Monthly, and then change the dates to include all possible dates. I believe the stats only go back to July 2015, however. Does that make sense? Cheers ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 16:55, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, yes. I was hoping they went back way before that, the older count used to include years, etc. until it was changed to the new coding. Randy Kryn (talk) 17:03, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello El cid, el campeador, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Well, there are three reasons, each of which, standing alone, would be sufficient: 1) your edit summary was grossly insulting to other editors and did not assume good faith; 2) the sentence, following your edit, did not make grammatical sense; and 3) we do not censor spoilers on WP. Please try to learn the rules of WP before lashing out at people. Cheers --‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 17:22, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Civility in infobox discussions arbitration amendment request declined

Hi El cid, el campeador. The Civility in infobox discussions arbitration amendment request filed 16 June 2018 has been declined. For the Arbitration Committee, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 03:01, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Dr Dipo Awojide

I'm still working on the page. Hold on, I'll be placing citations soon Aghachi7 (talk) 13:26, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

@Aghachi7: - thanks for the note. And don't worry about your article - you will have 7 days to add reliable sources before the article will be considered for deletion. However, it's WP policy to tag unsourced biographies of living persons articles with that tag. Again, you will have time to improve it, but it is very important to source all claims about living people. If you have any questions, please let me know. Main page: Wikipedia:Notability (sports) A sportsperson is presumed to be notable if the person has actively participated in a major amateur or professional competition or won a significant honor and so is likely to have received significant coverage in reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject.--Asher196 (talk) 15:36, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

  • @Asher196: - you're missing the point. The point is, we presume that individuals without articles are not notable. To disprove this presumption, you can create an article about the individual, supported by reliable sources, and then add them to the list. All the notability criteria are in re whether the individual should have a page, not whether they should be included as a notable person from a certain town. If red-links were allowed in lists if supported by a single source, the lists would be over-run with people who made the local news one time. In any case, I re-added the Steelers player since he did play in an NFL game. However, I left the other two out. I'm trying to compromise. The 'gemologist' is almost certainly vandalism, and the trick shot pool player has no coverage in reliable sources I can see. Cheers anyway. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 15:39, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
I don't know where you are getting this. WP:Notability Literally says "Notability is a property of a subject and not of a Wikipedia article. If the subject has not been covered outside of Wikipedia, no amount of improvements to the Wikipedia content will suddenly make the subject notable. Conversely, if the source material exists, even very poor writing and referencing within a Wikipedia article will not decrease the subject's notability." A person CAN be notable and not have a Wikipedia article. A person doesn't suddenly become notable as soon a WP article is written about them.--Asher196 (talk) 15:47, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
I will concede that the gemologist slipped by me. That for sure should not be there.--Asher196 (talk) 15:50, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
@Asher196: - again, you're missing the point. It's simply policy to not include individuals without WP articles in lists. We just don't do it. If an individual does not have a WP article, we don't include them in lists. It's a rule of convenience. If someone has a verified WP article, it is shown that they are notable. Just look around WP - lists rarely have red links. It's not a coincidence, it's just what WP does. Feel free to create articles for notable individuals supported by reliable sources and then include them in lists. It just makes more sense to verify articles instead of verifying listed people. ‡ Єl Cid of ᐺalencia ᐐT₳LKᐬ 16:01, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
