  • Something random that I came up with really, more down to the "407" part which is one of the better bus routes near to where I live. Think of it as an amalgamation of the two things I like best: Trains and buses!! Also dates back to the time when Ive been playing with MSTS.   • I go through phases of doing different things :) I've been through an article writing phase, through an AfD-only phase, through an ANI-only phase... pretty much most areas.   • Firstly, G11 only applies if the article is unrescuable and totally promotional, and is rarely valid for notable companies. It can be used, obviously, for notable companies, but I don't think it's really valid here. However, you cannot dismiss academic sources in the way you have, and even limited-scope sources can have big circulations - although, being unfamiliar with these ones, I can't assess if that is satisfied or not. Finally, thank you for toning down your comments, and I'm not quite sure how this guy, who, even if they are a promotional SPA, appears to be acting in genuinely good faith, has riled you so much. Would you be interested in working on that subject in a less contentious scope? Luke, I have been watching the Premier League's limited coverage on ESPN here in the States over the last few years. Now with the extensive coverage that is being carried on NBC Sports Net on cable and on NBC, I'm very excited about the "league" and European football in general. Love the show "ESPN (Press Pass)," the guys are hilarious. I noticed on your user page that you have an interest in railroads, it reminded me that although I have an interest in it, I have not made a single edit on that subject in over 5000 edits. I have a bunch of old atlases from the heyday of the railroads but they have been misplaced in my house. One from the World War I era I have not seen in twenty years, I believe a friend of my brother may have lifted it from the house.   • Although a huge proportion of railway-related articles have been written (a proportion of which is only rivalled by a few WikiProjects) there are still a few left, particularly in the pre-1920s periods. I've written a couple on locomotives myself, and rewritten many others, but it would be great if you could find your atlases and improve the existing articles, or write new ones!   • Everton is my number one (Fellaini definitely wanted to leave as evidenced by the last match as he stood three feet from the goal motionless as the ball passed by. They got rid of an obviously unhappy player, they got the money they were looking for from Man U and by the end of the day they obtained some pretty good players added to the club. All in all a good day to close the transfer window. I also like Arsenal, I get a big kick out of Arsene Wenger. Following Arsenal is like following my favourite baseball club the New York Mets. Both never spend any of the huge amounts of money they have and both wind up giving away their best players for next to nothing. Stockport County F.C

I reference that was there needed to be kept as it confirmed ALAN LORD'S head of Development role at the club - the second reference I then put up was the announcement that he was caretaker manager. I had to revert your edit and save before putting the new reference in. The two reference are correct . I didn't want to throw this on to a noticeboard immediately, so where do you think would be the best place to put out a general request for feedback on an article I am working on by myself? Well, it's about Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi. I've done a whole lot of work on that during the past month and I noticed that compared to other bios on Wikipedia, the lead is a bit heavy with inline citations. I doubt anyone will challenge the statements there, but it just seemed like a natural place for them (plus, many of those sources are cited again but with other pages further down on the article). WP:LEADCITE doesn't seem to give a clear picture on how much citation is acceptable. I've literally spent hours working on this thing, so I'm hoping that either the lead stays as-is or we just shift the citations down into the body of the artlcle.   • Cites in the lead are fine; having four or five cites for one bit seems excessive, and I doubt that'll be needed. I'd shift the cites elsewhere in the article, if at all possible. You forgot to cite the sentence "In the modern era, the book has been printed by Maktabah Al Hilal, having been reviewed by Dr. Mahdi al Makhzūmi and Dr. Ibrāhim Al Samirā'ì in eight volumes." which I believe does need one. Most of the cites look good, but this is far from my area of expertise (as I'm sure you know!) "In his old age, the son of Habib ibn al-Muhallab and reigning governor of the Muhallabids offered al-Farahidi a pension and requested that the latter tutor the former's son." seems a little clunky, although I couldn't necessarily write it better myself.   • I think User:Eric Corbett's response summed things up nicely. You have NO idea of how much work went into this being made as accurate as possible, but I do, I saw it happen. Your sources disagree with the majority of the ones we found, and some of the things you changed to utterly inaccurate figures. This article is a "Featured Article", which means it is about as accurate and well-written as they get. Not only did you introduce factual inaccuracies based on YOUR incorrect sources, you also messed up some of the formatting, and you decreased the quality of the prose. Hi, I noticed you have done some edits at various points on the 2013_British_Touring_Car_Championship_season page.

I have been criticised in the past for using "home nation" flags for drivers and have been told they should be British.

I was wondering why this page is any different and who decides on what is allowed or not.

  • I understand your concern, and I think the reason is because this is a national-level championship, and the British flags would be too generic. the report on the ccc homepage + the video was linked. ccc is largest european club in this domain, one of the oldest and most reputed, even organising a yearly congress with more than 4000 persons attending. allow me to rervert your edit for that reason. i'd love from wikipedia author to thoroughly research if something is plausible, cross check how often it is cited, check if they did it before before calling something spam. you might consider to abstain editing contents, if you feel that you have no time to properly translate and understand the reference or find an english source. wikipedia is international and NPOV, which includes bad and good things about a subject. --ThurnerRupert (talk) 18:53, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Make sure you actually pay attention to what you're fucking doing before templating a regular user, and doing so with such trumped-up bullshit. Re: Gordon Banks' appearances for Hellenic

You're right. The newspaper report claiming that Banks broke his finger on his DEBUT is wrong. But are you positive that he made 3 league appearances for Hellenic (rather than two?) I have compiled NFL line-ups from various sources. Although seasons 1963-1971 are nearly complete, there is the odd match missing.

Looking at Hellenic FC's stats for 1971, I found the following:

  • May 28 v Cape Town City (home) - drew 2-2 with Tony Lupton in goal
  • June 4 v Jewish Guild (home) - drew 2-2 (line-up missing)
  • June 11 v Highlands Power (home) - lost 0-1 with Banks in goal
  • June 19 v Germiston Callies (away) - lost 1-2 with Banks in goal until injured (replaced by Kenny Allen)

Please let me know if you have any indication whether Banks played against Jewish Guild on June 4th or not?

I agree with you, I should have been more proactive and stopping such behavior early on. As an academic scholar some of Wikipedia's processes go right against the very conventions I have been taught. Namely, when someone misrepresents, dismisses or challenges an assertion I am told to respond with the reasons why their argument is wrong and persuade others who would make similar claims to closely examine the text. If my argument is bested or I cannot appropriately address the concerns than I yield. Peer reviews and interacting is the core of academic advancement, but when you insert bad-faith and POV pushing bad things happen. On here the questions are dodged or reiterated without addressing the initial argument, sidetracking to TLDR territory. Such as copy-pasting objections to opposite POV without addressing why they are wrong; simply regurgitating the mess or finding more and more contrived ways to make objections to distract from the matter at hand. I need some mentoring to better prepare myself against such things and not get sucked into them. Like it or not, part of Lucia's behavior is because I enabled her by continuing to discuss in the belief that reason, logic or consensus building would occur. I regret my response and frustration with her because it's made such a problem from the community. I spend very little time in Anime and Manga subjects as well. Thanks for your first revert, you probably kept me out of a mess. I think you have a nice integrity--even when you disagreed with Hasteur, you still knew it was plainly harmful for me to make a laugh out of his opinions on the matter (which were serious input).

You also knew not to shy off when I said "I was just trying to end that section by expressing how ridiculous it would be if Hasteur really was correct. Sry for misunderstanding" ... It was very wrong how I worded that sentence: I talked as if I fully expected you to agree with my behavior, and made it look like you couldn't possibly disapprove it unless you didn't get the sarcasm. That's terrible--I swear it wasn't conscious, but maybe my learned automatic behavior...

I did, in fact, hope you merely didn't understand my sarcasm, but it was my nasty bias that made me behave as if I fully expected the hope to be true.

South Coast football

Luke, I know your teams are Birmingham City and Norwich City, but I noticed you are from the South / South West. So it had me thinking about Southampton's sudden rise to the upper echelon of the table. It made me wonder what is happening with their would be rivals Portsmouth, and I noticed they are down in League Two. It was not too long ago that I remember them being in the Premier League, have they been relegated nearly every year since they dropped from the top flight?   • The Portsmouth story is a depressing one. The most obvious comparison is Rangers - except that Portsmouth weren't liquidated. Portsmouth went into administration two or three times due to a combination of slightly crooked owners, overspending, and chronic mismanagement. They were relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2009–10 season, and then suffered back-to-back relegations in 2011–12 and last season - coming very close to being liquidated in the latter season, when basically their entire senior squad had to leave. They seem to have stabilized in League Two for now, but quite low in that league. Mistaken Gross

I had to revert the addition of this NDTV source because it did not clearly explain Thuppakki's overall collections (it said "reportedly fetched over Rs 80 crore at the box-office"), without saying whether domestic or international. The majority of other sources in the article mention that the film domestically earned 180 crore (Times Of India and EROS International), and because the NDTV source didn't seem to fit anywhere in the article, I preferred to go with what the other sources say. ---- Kailash29792 (talk) 16:45, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

  • What you should've done is a partial reversion - which I probably should've done as well. The reason for this is using the "crore" is more helpful than using million/billion, since it seems that this is the appropriate thing for Indian films (and is generally used in the sources as well.) This also has the added bonus of keeping things in the same units. This is what made the edit, on the face of it, appear to be valid. Thanks for improving wikipedia.

Would you be willing to do a copyright-infringement review of it, and rewrite any verbatim-quotes or close paraphrases that you find? I would strongly discourage any administrator from un-salting Gedion Zelalem until 1) the copyright review is done by someone (I'll eventually do it if nobody else does) and 2) there is a consensus by non-involved editors (i.e. not you, and not me) on WT:WikiProject Football that this person's notability as a football (soccer) player won't be called into question or he clearly meets WP:NFOOTY based on game-play alone (his 17th birthday - late January 2014 - at the earliest).   • Given that 90% of the text in there was written by me, I can guarantee that copyright infringement will not be a problem with it. He clearly fails WP:NFOOTY as he is still a youth player, and is yet to make a fully professional appearance (this may, however, be literally a couple of months away at most); however, I'm pretty sure he meets WP:GNG, which is more important. Also, note that his age is actually completely irrelevant; he doesn't have to be 17 to become notable, he simply has to play a professional game for Arsenal (which will probably come in either a short Premier League run-out, or an FA Cup round, at a guess.) Virsliga's non-fully-pro status

Section 5.2 of the document sourced by LatvianFootball lists a series of documents to be submitted by club to the LFF. The list includes work contracts of professional players and amateur contracts of amateur players. Given that the league rules specifically provide for the registration of amateur players, it's pretty clear that the League is not fully pro.   • Those are the regulations set out by the Latvian Football Federation that clearly divide players into those who have professional contracts and those who have amateur contracts. Therefore, I put the league in the not fully professional category. You can even check this info on the LFF website, where there is info about the contract of every registered player.   • Problem is, those rangeblocks can also take out good editors (or good new editors, which in some ways is even worse), all because one pratt decides that it's "cool" to disrupt Wikipedia. lost battle apparently, this article (and many many more) is lost in the wilderness because the are so many beasts out there (in other words the vandals and the idiots that won't leave us to work in peace!) that this can't be stemmed.

In this case, this "user" is saying "My team does not have bad fans, only the rest, we are great!". In a similar case (would not be the least surprised if the same person was the culprit, with another IP), referenced stuff regarding Bruma (footballer born 1994)'s debut in the UEFA Champions League was summarily removed why? Because Galatasaray (another Turkish team, as in Webó's case) lost 1-6, and the fans are having none of that! Pityful...
