:: [[User:EEng|EEng]], {{ec}} it is not about your humour. That does not upset me. The problem is people provide not so good hooks backed by not so good references and then cry why the reviewer is harassing them. I can't waste my time and mind on a DYK nom, where there is possibility of more mudslinging. The story has ended for me with an unconditional apology. March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

Your GA nomination of Kalyanasundara

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Kalyanasundara you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Synonyms of Purusha

Hi, I'm hoping you can clarify something for me. Is the Vedic Purusha (as in RV 10.90, Purusha sukta) synonymous with Vishwakarma? The sukta article seems to suggest three possible names but members of the Vishwakarma (caste) have been adamant across various articles that Purusha = Vishwakarma and that nothing else might apply. I've tried reading some sources but it is just confusing me further ... and I'm very wary of anything related to claims made by members of any caste about their own community (especially when, like here, they're claiming a "higher" position than almost everyone else seems to think that they hold). - Sitush (talk) 11:57, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Sitush, it is not as simple as Purusha = Vishwakarma. As far as I know, Vishwakarma is sometimes taken not the deity Vishwakarma, but as the epithet meaning "Creator of the World". Every sect has a different interpretation e.g. Vaishnavas say that Purusha Sukta is dedicated to Narayana [http://books.google.co.in/books?id=evmiLInyxBMC&pg=PA12&dq=Purusa+sukta&hl=en&sa=X&ei=huAKU7KZL8SXrAfp44CADQ&ved=0CC8Q6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=Purusa%20sukta&f=false

]; Prajapati is also identified with Purusha [1]; another candidate is Brahman [2]. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:14, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much. I can now return to Talk:Brahmin, Talk:Vishwakarma (caste) etc without thinking that maybe I've completely lost the plot! - Sitush (talk) 10:31, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Wikipedian, I am Ganapati Pujans. It seems you have renamed an article called Prathyangira, yet why did you delete photos off of this article? And why you said Narasimhi is not Pratyangira? When I wanted to read Wikipedia's article about Pratyangira. Thanks for renaming the article, but you must add those images again. And thanks for your edits on Pratyangira. I appreciate it. And please reply. Have a nice day! Ganapati Pujans (talk) 19:09, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Kalyanasundara

The article Kalyanasundara you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Kalyanasundara for things which need to be addressed. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Ammodramus -- Ammodramus (talk) 03:01, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've passed this as a good article. Congratulations, and thanks for writing an article on this interesting subject. I'm glad that you're working in the area of Hinduism; in the course of doing the GA review for this article, I visited a number of other articles in the area, and many of them were in need of considerable improvement. Your efforts in the field are helping to bring that about. Ammodramus (talk) 23:34, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indian rulers before 1500 on WP:VA/E

Hi Redtigerxyz! Thank you for your efforts to improve the coverage of Indian philosophy and religion on the Vital Articles/Expanded list. Do you have any interest in the general history of India before 1500? We have a severe problem of balance on the list, in that we have over 100 European political leaders from that time period, but just two from India: Chandragupta Maurya and Ashoka. I have made a list of eight possible additions on Gizza's talk page, but my knowledge of Indian history is extremely poor and I would greatly appreciate any comments you might have on my selections. Thanks for your time! Cobblet (talk) 08:32, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll nominate Rajaraja and Ajatashatru instead of Rajendra and Amoghavarsha. I like your History suggestions as well but for me the priority there is to get Middle Kingdoms of India on the list. Cobblet (talk) 17:59, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Anantashayani Vishnu

We have articles at Ananta Shayana and Anantashayana Vishnu. Are these two talking about one and the same idol; both situated in Odisha? And actually, should the article title "Anantashayani Vishnu" or "Anantashayana Vishnu" be actually discussing the form of Vishnu resting on the Shesha rather than one particular sculpture? User:Skysmith/Missing topics about Hinduism has a missing entry for Anantasayin Vishnu. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 13:48, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dharmadhyaksha, they are talking about different sculptures. I want to write an article on Anantashayani Vishnu or Sheshashayi Vishnu the iconographical form combined with Padmanabha iconographical form some day. After an article is created on the iconographical form, Anantashayana Vishnu and Ananta Shayana should be redirected there, while sculptures be named "Ananta Shayana", Place format.--Redtigerxyz Talk 05:05, 24 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Vajreshwari naming confusion

Hi, I have recently edited Vajreshwari article and found that a place and temple with similar name exists in Kangra, HP. While the Maharashtra one is known as Vajreshwari or Vajreshvari (also ancient names Vadvali, Vajrabai which can be ignored for titles) and the Himachal one whose article is Vajreshvari is also known as Bajreshwari, Brajeshwari and Brijeshwari. This is the temple name and I dont know if a place by that name exists as the temple is located in Kangra town itself. So I request you give suggestions so that the articles can be moved/renamed, new redirects or a WP:DAB needs to be created. Thanks WorLD8115 (TalK) 04:21, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Koenraad Elst (serious BLP violations in a BLP article)

There are serious, ongoing and long-term BLP violations in the BLP article Koenraad Elst (see also at the BLP noticeboard).

The BLP article seems to be unstable: Each time someone removes any BLP violations in the article, they are being restored - and an user is again threatening to restore all BLP violations "soon". BLP policy is crucial to be enforced. Because of the very serious NPOV violations in a BLP article, this requires the attention of neutral editors.

The NPOV violations were explained in great detail by the subject of the lemma here:

These links say among other things:

Well, there you have it. The lemma on me has ended up taking this form because some militant among your contributors purposely wanted to “warn readers” against me. Please cite me an instruction for encyclopedists that names “warning” among the legitimate goals of an encyclopedia.
Either you remove the lemma altogether, or you straighten it out and apply the rules of encyclopedia-writing to it. At any rate, in a encyclopedia, I count on being judged for what I myself have said or done, and not for the gossip my declared enemies have come up with.
If Wikipedia wants to live up to its promise of being a reliable encyclopedic source, it will strike this and all sentences resembling it from its article on me. At most, it can use me as an example of how it was fooled by some of its all-too-partisan collaborators. Speaking of whom: the history page accompanying my page proves forever that some Wikipedia collaborators wanted to inflict on me the maximum harm possible, an attitude incompatible with work for an encyclopedia. --Calypsomusic (talk) 12:01, 19 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Need Clarity

Hello Redtiger, i am skandasol, I visited the shiva talk page. In that shiva talk page you agree that Devdutt Pattnaik is a repsctable mythologist. Well said, the way he decodes needs to be appreciated. But, at the same time some members like Muon(yoga master, never respects others), Charles Riheens are of the view that a content needs no change. i am talking about the "Ascetic and Householder"(tale about shasta) page. I strongly feel the story description about Shasta clearly needs some change. They are taking explanation from Wendy Doniger. An Indian Court did ban her book. It's not important to look upon the credibility of the author before taking her explanation as a reliable on?? I strongly feel that references to Wendy Doniger needs to be removed from references tag and description needs to changed. Again Devdutt is far far better in decoding the stories. You are one among those powerful editors who always gets his say won. What's your take on this. Please provide some light on this issue. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Skandasol (talkcontribs) 07:54, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Eshwar.om, pan-Indian/pan-Hindu deities (also they are mentioned in various scriptures) are mainstream deities. Regional deities enjoy patronage in specific regions (say Kerala, Nepal, South India) eg. Aiyappa, Manasa, Ashokasundari, Aiyappa, Andhaka etc. (all considered children of Shiva, See also Talk:Shiva#Shiva.27s_children); they are restricted to regional scriptures. --Redtigerxyz Talk 18:30, 29 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again. How does "among the most adept female poets in the Bravanese dialect" sound? She is described therein as the "most outstanding poetess" in that particular dialect. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 17:07, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Middayexpress, If we have a ref, can you add the sentence in the lead with a ref. It should be ok. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:35, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Redtigerxyz. The assertion is in the same Vianello work as the others. Perhaps it would be better to indicate here that her "poetry was widely memorized and figures strongly in Barawa's poetic heritage" since that's less subjective? Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:13, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Middayexpress, I can approve "among the most adept female poets in the Bravanese dialect", once you put it on the DYK page. Also, "Her poetry was widely memorized and figures strongly in Barawa's poetic heritage" is a copyright violation, too close to the original. Either remove, rephrase or put in quotes. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:21, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks. I've reworded that phrase in the body, and changed the DYK to "among the most adept female poets in the Bravanese dialect". Let me know if it's alright now. Best regards, Middayexpress (talk) 16:47, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use of images depicting gods/goddesses

Hello Redtigerxyz, you have removed the fair use image I have added to the article of goddess Pattini citing a violation of WP:NFC. Since the normal copyright laws are also applied to the statues or paintings of goddesses, those work can not be uploaded straight in to Wikipedia under the free accepted licenses. Can you please indicate the section/paragraph of WP:NFC or any other Wikipedia guideline that was violated by this image? In my view, that image does not violate WP:NFCCP and therefore can be used in the article of the goddess. Thank you. -- Shehanw (talk) 15:27, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Shehanw, Criterion 1 "No free equivalent" is violated. Since Pattini is an ancient goddess, at least 1 {{PD-art}} image of the goddess should exist in the world. Else, you or anyone else can paint her picture or sculpt her statue and click it and upload under a wikipedia allowed license.--Redtigerxyz Talk 16:25, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your theory can be applied to the fair use images of dead persons and album covers too, isn't it? any one can paint or sculpt a statue of a dead person and click it and upload it under an acceptable license. Album covers also can be painted and uploaded with an acceptable license. Hopefully an artist will paint or sculpt the goddess and upload it to Wikipedia one day. If not we have to wait until a wikipedian find that {{PD-art}} image of the goddess that should exist some day. I got it, thanks for the information. --Shehanw (talk) 16:43, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You had reverted my edit on the article saying that she is worshiped in Gujarat. However she is not worshiped in Gujarat and especially you have no proof that she is worshiped there. Also that news article by Devdutt Patnaik (http://www.speakingtree.in/spiritual-articles/mysticism/shivas-girl-child) is inaccurate and contains many false claims. Devdutt's articles are often filled with inaccuracy and contradictions and that's why this news article about Ashokasundari has not been used a reference in the Ashokasundari article. The article says that she is called Okha and salt is not purchased in her memory in the month of Chaitra. However this is false. No book by any author (except Devdutt himself)on mythology mentions that she is called Okha or that salt is not purchased in her memory. Also the article mentions that she hid behind a sack of salt during Ganesha's beheading however in no book not even in any translation of the Padma Purana itself where she is mentioned says that she was present during Ganesha's beheading. SO tell me do you still want to use this unreliable source by Devdutt Patnaik. This the reason why this unreliable source hasn't been used in the article. You are a much more experienced editor than me should know that we do not mention something on Wikipedia just because it seems that way especially when the source mentioning it is itself unreliable. We only mention it when it is proved beyond doubt that the source mentioning it is reliable and is displaying correct info. MythoEditor (talk) 09:39, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This Gujarati article [6] also narrates the story of the salt is told. Please note the story is not part of Padma Puranna, but a Gujarati folk tale. --Redtigerxyz Talk 10:22, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You should know that we do not use some random website off the internet as a source even if this article is in Gujrati. Also it is written recently in 2014. It could be likely that this article copied the information from Devdutt Patnaik's article. There are many websites that have copied the same thing about Ashokasundari should we use them as source too. That's why we didn't use Devdutt Patnaik's article and we can't use this website as a source too. Do you have any real proof that she is mentioned in Gujrati folk tales like a direct translation of the folk tale where she might have been mentioned? Do you have any proof that she is really worshipped in Gujarat? Like a temple of hers or a ritual? Actually salt is not eaten in Chaitra because of Navaratras not because of Ashokasundari. When sourcing mythological articles we cannot source just some random website of the internet as they might be biased. And I wonder why do you insist so much on adding that Ashokasundari is mentioned in folktales of Gujarat. If she is mentioned in folktales of Gujarat then why doesn't any book about mythology mention it? Also Oneindia.in is actually web portal which bring its information from diverse sources. It is most likely they have copied this information from Devdutt's article since none of the content on their site is original. It is disappointing to see that you will try to insert information about which you have no reliable source. MythoEditor (talk) 14:40, 24 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oneindia.in is also a news portal and they have a news section. Anything is which is 2014 does not mean that it is copied from Devddutt's article. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:36, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is supposedly. However this article's content and Devdutt's article's are very similar. And that is not just because they both are about Ashokasundari. The way these two articles is written is very similar. Also remember that a web portal sources its information from various sources even the news. Also you should know that 's article also appeared in Times of India. Should we use that as a source just because it appeared in a news website? Obviously not. All information must be verified. If you think that a folk tale about a god or a goddess can't appear in a book then think again.Vishnu maya is not mentioned in any scripture. His origins too are folk legends however the source I have used on his article clearly mentions he is a non Sanskritic deity. Also there is a folk tale about Shiva dancing nude to make Kali run away from a forest. However it is mentioned in a book that I read on Google. I am not at all against adding information about Ashokasundari to her article I actually in support of it. However the information should be first proved reliable and true without a doubt. Besides I think it is not such a big deal that the thing about the folk tale can't be added ,even if might be true (which is unlikely). Actually believe me it's not even that much important since the main reason behind creating Ashokasundari article was to prove that there did exist a daughter of Shiva and being able to prove just that is a big achievement in itself. Witnesses

Thanks for reconsidering. "Students" would be OK too as we don't need to mention the denomination involved I guess. Victuallers (talk) 17:09, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Victuallers, first I thought that it was non-neutral to the controversial Jehovah's Witnesses, then read their article and ref. It seems it was not uncommon for the sect to oppose the national symbols. --Redtigerxyz Talk 17:13, 22 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dashavatara

its wrong to say buddha is a avatar of vishnu. it is not accepted by hindus. the sources are not right.. maybe budhists (not majority) have a belief like that. plz don't endorse wrong inforation in wikipedia.Rameshnta909 (talk) 12:06, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Which holy puranas says that tell me? Some of the editors aggressively endorsed this view in an article doesn't make it right.. there are numerous versions of dashavatara but the most accepted is krishna as the 9th avatar and balrama as the 8th. It is the most popular list. budha was born in kaliyug. there is only one avatar in kaliyug that is kalki. plz change this nonsense.Rameshnta909 (talk) 12:23, 23 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I suggested a tweak on ALT4 and wonder if you could review it. Thanks, Yoninah (talk) 23:17, 3 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yoninah, you are free to review new ALTs or call a new reviewer. I am NOT participating in that "Lunatic" mudslinging match.--Redtigerxyz Talk 04:52, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I wouldn't blame you for pretending you didn't get the ping...

...but you are needed at the lunatic asylum. EEng (talk) 06:56, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry -- didn't see the prior section. As already stated I don't blame you. EEng (talk) 06:58, 4 July 2014 (UTC) P.S. If I promise not to dunk you in the Bath of Surprise will you please come back long enough to settle (again) on a solidly sourced ALT? Please?[reply]
EEng, (edit conflict) it is not about your humour. That does not upset me. The problem is people provide not so good hooks backed by not so good references and then cry why the reviewer is harassing them. I can't waste my time and mind on a DYK nom, where there is possibility of more mudslinging. The story has ended for me with an unconditional apology. My last edit was just to clarify Skr15081997's doubt about the hook. Sayonara. THE END. PS: I promise to dunk you in the Bath of Surprise if you call or ping there again. :P Disclaimer: this is the preceding statement is HUMOUR, NOT A THREAT. I suggest EEng, you too start using such disclaimer.--Redtigerxyz Talk 07:12, 4 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
