KKDO (94.7 FM) is an American commercial radio station serving Sacramento, California. The slogan is "Radio 94-7" and programs an alternative rock music format. The Entercom outlet broadcasts at 94.7 MHz with an ERP of 25 kW and is licensed to Fair Oaks, California. The station's HD Radio channel currently offers an Urban Adult Contemporary format.[1] Its studios are located in North Highlands (with a Sacramento address) and its transmitter is near Citrus Heights.

History

The station's former logo under the previous format

The 94.7 frequency is actually a move-in from the Reno, Nevada, market, where it was KTHX. In 1997, the frequency was reassigned to Fair Oaks and returned to the air with a smooth jazz format in 1998. KSSJ has also proven to be a success story in the market, where it has established itself as one of the top-rated stations in several Arbitrons since its sign on.

The original KSSJ was at 101.9 until 1998 when American Radio Systems sold 101.9 to Excell Communications (Now part of Entravision) and the KSSJ intellectual property to Entercom.

In late February 2010, KSSJ dropped its "Smooth Jazz" slogan, re-branding itself as simply "94/7 KSSJ" while also changing its logo and adding additional vocals to the playlist that do not normally belong in the format.

On March 3, 2010, the website, as well as e-mails, indicated that the format would change at noon citing that "the audience for the station can no longer sustain the business of the station."[2]

At 12:01 p.m., March 3, 2010, KSSJ switched over to a gold-based [vague] alternative rock format, going by Radio 94-7. The new call letters are KKDO.[2][3][4] The first song on Radio 94.7 was Smashing Pumpkins' "Today". This is a return to the alternative rock format for Sacramento after longtime alternative station KWOD went off the air in 2009, also under the direction of Entercom. Currently the two on-air personalities are Cooper and Lindsey Pavao. Their minimal amount of on-air content [citation needed] and no traditional "day parts" [according to whom?] has set them apart from other Sacramento stations.
