Hello David and Colin. Thank you for your responses. I will find out from Richard Seaglove what pseudonym he used. His entry was certainly in good faith. It is not for promotion I was requesting this it was because there is no aural history of the last 19 years of Nina Simone's life and I know that Paul Robinson was her right hand man in this time. Perhaps I worded my initial request to you incorrectly. My apologies for that. I was simply concerned that he was not cited in her wiki and was very happy to find out that Richard Seaglove was doing a wiki entry on him and then equally disappointed when it was not up...particularly knowing that his biography on their working life together was coming up in the next 12 months. Blessings. Thank you for wiki

Help Correcting or Closing (Deleting Page)

Hi. I am a criminal justice professor and recently examined the Marcus Schrenker page. I noticed there are glaring inaccuracies. I corrected them and noted why I corrected them. But, it seems there are a group of people that want to tell a far more negative and slanted story on the guy. It seems more like a hate blog rather than a biography. The article refers to media publications which as we all know can be inaccurate. Relying on the media to write an accurate biography is not wise. I went to the trouble of going to court and state records and corrected the article. But, they keep reversing it back saying it "isn't constructive." What do I do? Should the page be deleted if no one can agree?

The Wikipedia model may seem strange to you. Our content is crowdsourced by anonymous editors, so we must depend on citing reliable sources. We try for verifiability, not truth: see WP:V. If you can find reliable sources that contradict the ones cited in the article, then you may describe the contradictions and cite your sources, but you cannot remove sourced material. Your investigation of primary sources constitutes original research, which cannot be used in Wikipedia: see WP:OR. If you choose to publish the results of your research in a scholarly work, you can (or preferably someone else) can cite it. -Arch dude (talk) 01:19, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Please could someone check for me if the link to the reference cited here[1] works OK? It doesn't quite look right with a nickname in the link, but that's what I got when selecting 'Share'. Hard to know what it is that you mean by works OK. When I look there I see a snippet about Snooker that does not support the claim that "[Bonny] was runner-up to Evans in the 2008 European Snooker Championships" (at least according to a google translation of that snooker snippet). When I click the Gazet image, only then do I learn that the cited source lies behind a registration barrier. You didn't provide an in-source locator (|page(s)=) so, were I registered, I would have to search every page to find out if there is something more than the snooker snippet. Don't make it hard on readers. Tell them upfront that they need to register to read the source. Provide sufficient bibliographic detail so that they can go quickly to the in-source location. Always do these things. Free-to-read sources that support en.wiki article text is preferred so perhaps cite a better source?

Changes on the American University in Cairo Page

Dear Wikipedia editors We noticed some missing information on the American University in Cairo page and we added some content to make sure that the information is complete. We cited the requested references. We also updated some information such as the ranking of the University. Please advise on how to make sure that these changes go through and are not rejected. Is there any formal procedure that we should follow to make sure that our changes and updates are added to the University wikipedia page. I'm probably missing something fundamental about how the sidebar link to article equivalents in other languages works. But could someone explain to me why an attempt to link Nikolay Kedrov Jr. with its ruWP equivalent via the sidebar tool fails with this message: The page you wanted to link with is already attached to an item on the central data repository which links to Nikolay Kedrov Sr. on this site. Items can only have one page per site attached. Please choose a different page to link with. ? --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 16:54, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your problem is that the ruwiki page you are trying to link Nikolay Kedrov Jr. to is already linked to Nikolay Kedrov Sr.. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:57, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)It's because the Russian article is currently attached to the article on his father. I have changed this for you.If you see this again, you need to go to the wikidata item and delete the wrong article from the list, then you can re-add. @Lee Vilenski: Nikolay Kedrov Sr. seems to be the correct link for the Russian article based on the birth date of 1871. TSventon (talk) 17:08, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Lee Vilenski: The link was because the ruwiki article is about the father, not the son; look at the dates. You need to revert your changes. --David Biddulph (talk) 17:08, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Whoops! My bad. Yeah, the Russian article is about the father, sorry about that. There is a redlink in the Russian article for the son, so WP:CXT may come up with an article one day. Apologies. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 17:12, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Banners

How do I get rid of banners such as Participate in an international science photo competition!? Please ping me in your reply. Interstellarity (talk) 17:35, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think that you can just close them. Ruslik_Zero 20:51, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There's a new one every other week, and when you close them on one project they still remain on other projects. Anyone willing to go complain to the WMF about these annoying and unnecessary banners has my full support. Interstellarity, there aren't any banners currently running for me that I can test this on, but back in 2010 this CSS (under the fundraising, meetup, and centralNotice section) did the job. Have a look at the CSS identifiers of these banners and display:none; them in your CSS file. – Thjarkur (talk) 21:55, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Þjarkur, I'm a little confused by your answer. Can you please give me the exact code I should put in my CSS file I should use? Interstellarity (talk) 23:02, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Interstellarity:
#siteNotice{ 	display:none !important; }

should work. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 07:10, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Victor Schmidt mobil, would Thjarkur's suggestion still work? Interstellarity (talk) 11:34, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Interstellarity yes, but if you only want to get rid of every possible banner, using my code is the faster way because it hides the anchor where banners are placed in. If you want a few banners to be visible, you will probably be faster with his solution. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 12:51, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Frequent updates needed

Hi everyone, Forbes 100 Richest Indians list 2019 was published few days ago by forbes but forbes profile(net worth column also) of these 100 people are not updated till now. Which article(s) are you refrerring to? You may need to update them individually, or if there is a template then maybe only the template needs updating. RudolfRed (talk) 21:25, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bug or feature? A.y template, omitting day-of-month

Using works, to display "74 years" whereas omitting the "29" results in:

• (error message) Expression error: Unexpected < operator

(a) If I wish to omit the "29" is there another function I should use?

(b) Is there something wrong with the function (i.e. where does the "<" come from) Pi314m (talk) 21:29, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pi314m: I don't think there is an error. The template is wanting to use the day for calculation, and you left off the day, which confused it. Age might be an alternative if you want to provide only month and year (if I understand the example there correctly). Refname with quotes

Hello! These are all questions related to the quote description in citations, possibly in combination with refname syntax.

1) Suppose I come across a page where a reference is used multiple times. The citations are identical, but one contains a |quote="bleh"|... description. Is there a simple way to combine these with refname syntax? Based upon my searches, this does not seem to be the case.

2) Is there another citation structure amenable to quotes? I'm thinking somethings similar to how one can add page numbers to a given citation using Template:rp.

3) Is there a general recommendation on using quotes in general? I see it as useful when one is citing a longer article, but it may be excessive.

Thanks! Jusadi (talk) 22:34, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

My answers:
1. no; if one contains a quote not appropriate to the others, it is not identical so cannot be combined with the others; this is the same for different pagination or other bibliographic detail
2. if the quote is truly important (truly important – I think that the vast majority of quotes are not) then place the quote in the article text and cite that quote to the source
3. see #2
Trappist the monk (talk) 22:47, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good. One last clarification: I may have been slightly imprecise in my language. When I was mentioning quotes, I meant in the context of a description in a citation template. Are you implying that this part of the template should not be used in general? Thanks again!
Jusadi (talk) 22:35, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you are talking about |quote= to hold quoted text from the source, then we are talking about the same thing. Yeah, the parameter is there. Without discussion, in 2006, an editor added |quote= to cite book. Though quickly reverted, the originating editor reverted the revert with the edit summary revert. I need it, and it doesn't break anything. The editor who tried to keep |quote= out of cite book until suitable discussion could justify the need for it was unable to gain enough support for any meaningful discussion. The upshot being that we now have the |quote= parameter. So, yeah, |quote= is, in my opinion, much-too-much overused and that overuse, is misuse.
If you are talking about |quote= to hold a description of something that is not a direct quote from the source, then perhaps we are still talking about the same thing. Using |quote= (or any cs1|2 template parameter) for something other than its intended use, is a misuse and should not be done. Someday, someone will come along and correct the misuse so you might as well not misuse the parameter in the first place.
Are we talking about one of these or something different?
Trappist the monk (talk) 22:52, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We are on the same page. Thank you for the exposition and the history--pretty interesting! Per your suggestion, I'll avoid use of the method. Thanks for your discussion, and have a good one!

Creating a page that already exists in other languages

Hello!

How can I write a new article that already exists in other languages? Do I really need to wait 5 months until the page is published after volunteer revision, as Article Wizard actually says?

Many thanks,

Martí — Preceding unsigned comment added by Martiboltaselva (talkcontribs) 22:41, 1 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Martiboltaselva: For new editors, that is the best process. Each Wikipedia has different rules on articles, and creating a new article, even if starting from one in a different language, is not an easy task. When you get more experience, you can create the article directly, without waiting for a review. I suggest starting with WP:YFA, which will explain what is required for an article here at the English Wikipedia. RudolfRed (talk) 01:05, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear,

Hi @Ql87: Unfortunately the Articles for Creation (AfC) review process is heavily backlogged; there are over 3,500 pending submissions that have been waiting up to 8 weeks for review. Reviews aren't a first-in-first out, and the actual time you have to wait can vary widely depending on volunteers and the drafts they choose to review, but you can expect 8-10 weeks at worst (hopefully sooner!). ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 01:59, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ql87. If this is about Draft:Benjamin Lev then I note that your submission was declined on October 19th but that you have made some improvements since then. It would be useful to add references to independently published articles about the subject if you can find some whilst you are waiting for a further review. Reviewers might be put off by lots of self-published works given as references. Your references clearly show that the subject exists and has a career in academia, but Wikipedia requires rather stricter conditions; See WP:Notability (academics) for exact requirements, and put these essential references first to make life easier for reviewers. Putting the subject's own self-published website first is not a good idea. Dbfirs 02:19, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Khanze1, how old is the "old picture"? Why do you believe that its publication is not restricted by copyright law? Maproom (talk) 08:31, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Khanze1: The photographer of the original picture (or his estate) owns the copyright. Your camera made a copy. That does not change the copyright. If you are the heir of the original photographer, you might own the copyright. Restoring deleted article

This is regarding Juan Mera González. It was deleted due to WP:NFOOTBALL and WP:GNG. Here is the discussion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Juan Mera González. In principle, yes. You can ask the deleting administrator, User:Vanamonde93, to send you the deleted text of the article or to undelete it and move it to draft space. You can then create and/or edit a draft to include information that indicates that the subject now meets notability criteria. And then you can submit it through the WP:AFC process. Weird bytecount in page history

At this history page, why is User:Geolodus's edit shown as 0 bytes and my edit immediately after it shown as 1,319 bytes when both of them have added text to the talk page? JIP | Talk 11:51, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I estimate your answer to Geolodus to be about 300 characters, much less than his entry. But the history shows about 1300 char at your edit, which suggests it covers both edits with one increment. Apparently increments are calculated from stored lengths, and the length was not properly updated after Geolodus' edit. Capitalization in Dutch surnames

Is there any Manual of Style guidance on how to handle surnames that begin with lower case? For example, Mike van der Hoorn is titled with a lowercase "van der Hoorn" but uses "Van der Hoorn" throughout the article. Would it make sense to use "van der Hoorn" midsentence, but "Van der Hoorn" when at the beginning? Or some other style? Gnome de plume (talk) 13:38, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gnome de plume, I don't know of any MoS guidance here (though that doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't exist). That said, our article on tussenvoegsels explains the Dutch custom decently well: written with lowercase when preceded by name (or initial), but capitalized otherwise. So "Van der Hoorn was born [...]" and "The 2012-13 campaign saw Van der Hoorn breakthrough" but "Mike van der Hoorn is a professional footballer". (Cases that tend to lead to confusion and mistakes most often--even in Dutch--are when surnames starting with a tussenvoegsel are preceded by a title but not a name or initial. Starts with a capital then as well, e.g. "Professor De Vries" not "Professor de Vries".)
That said, the above goes for Dutch Dutch only: Flemish (or "Belgian Dutch") follows different rules: surnames with tussenvoegsels are always written with capitals, even if preceded by name or initial, and frequently get the tussenvoegsel collated into the surname at least as far as alphabetized lists go, while in Dutch, tussenvoegsels are simply ignored when alphabetizing (so e.g. "Jan de Grote" would be listed after, not before, "Jan Evert") AddWittyNameHere 16:04, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that information. It's very helpful. This sounds like a case where WP:LANGVAR applies - use the Dutch style for Dutch-related articles and Flemish style for Flemish articles; and defer to MOS:RETAIN for articles without a clear connection to either. Gnome de plume (talk) 18:03, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Gnome de plume: Yup, Flemish/Dutch is pretty much a textbook case of LANGVAR, and not just where surnames are concerned. Fair few differences between the two in general. AddWittyNameHere 18:23, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

reference other wikipedia articles with specific, copied sections

Noob here to wikipedia editing.

In some articles they not only reference other wikipedia articles, but they copy whole other sections. I can't figure out what that's called or if there are specific guidelines for doing this correctly.

Example.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars

Each little section is from a large main article - as in prequel trilogy in this main page references and links to an entire article about the prequel trilogy and copies passages from it.

Is this a specific technique or is this custom per page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SouthCoastInbound (talkcontribs) 16:07, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It's all just done by hand. Sometimes people copy sections from the other article, but most often the sections are written to fit well in the main article, the main article gives a broad overview. You can point to more specific articles either by just linking to them or by adding Star Wars sequel trilogy below the relevant headers. There is a short explanation of this in Template:Main. – Thjarkur (talk) 20:34, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm an employee of Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment and would like to call to your attention that there is WRONG information and inadequate referencing on the Paramount Home Media Distribution page. I've copied the first 8 paragraphs here as the example. All of this information has ONE point of reference supporting it. And that site referenced DOES NOT support all of the 8 paragraphs about it. I would like to begin removing the false information that you've allowed on this page that is erroneously supported by one reference (that does not support the 8 paragraphs above it). What is the quickest way for me to correct this false information - that is NOT supported by a legitimate reference? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paramount_Home_Media_Distribution

History[edit] In 1993, Paramount launched a deal with fast food restaurant McDonald's to release several of its movies at participating restaurants. Charlotte's Web, Ghost, Wayne's World and The Addams Family were the films that were available. The back catalog of DreamWorks Pictures has been released on video by PHMD. (except the 1998–2005 DreamWorks Animation library, and the North American distribution rights of Munich, The Cat in the Hat, A Beautiful Mind, Meet The Parents, Seabiscuit, and Meet The Fockers, all under the ownership of Universal Pictures, with Minority Report and Cast Away under 20th Century Fox) Films from Republic Pictures, Paramount's other subsidiary, are not distributed on video and DVD by PHMD (with some exceptions), but are distributed on video and DVD by Olive Films. Prior to 2012, these films were distributed by Lionsgate Home Entertainment, which was acquired from previous rights holder Artisan Entertainment (which merged with Lionsgate in 2003). This deal later expanded to include some of Paramount's own post-1949 films, typically lesser-known or lesser-performing titles. Also, as a result of this deal, Lionsgate has released in 2007 "triple features" of their own library of films on DVD using the package design originated by Paramount. With Republic's folding, Lionsgate's duty has been transferred to Olive. Films from Rysher Entertainment are also distributed by PHMD due to a previous distribution deal from 1999. PHMD have developed a trademark by giving their Special Edition/Director's Cut editions different names rather than the usual "Special Edition," or "Director's Edition". Paramount Home Entertainment gives them different names such as Grease: The Rockin' Rydell Edition, Beavis & Butthead Do America: The Edition That Doesn't Suck and Airplane!: The "Don't Call Me Shirley" Edition. Internationally, PHMD holds the DVD rights to several shows on HBO. PHMD also distributes in Germany the DVD releases of films distributed theatrically by Prokino Filmverleih, as well as films from Gaumont in France. As Paramount Home Video, the company once distributed several Miramax releases on video – the video rights to some of these films (such as Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth) are still owned by Paramount.[1]

Donations

It would be great if Wiki would include a checkbox on their donation windows for "I give" which would include a subroutine that would turn off the donation pleas for that user if it crosses to a table of people who donate. I've been donating for years and a little recognition would be appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eericmatus (talkcontribs) 20:22, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User Name

Hi Person-in-charge,

May I check, can I change the user name of my wiki page?

Right now the user name is Heliconiacapital. I want to change it to Heliconia Capital.

Thank you for your kind help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heliconiacapital (talkcontribs) 01:44, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry, Heliconiacapital, but neither your current username nor your proposed username are acceptable. Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are the name of companies or organizations, or any name that implies shared use. "Heliconia Capital" is the name of a company. I am going to soft block your account and leave instructions for changing the name on your talk page. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:52, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's contribution solicitations

I contribute when asked (which seems to be more frequently than in the past), but I believe I get hit twice with all the solicitation guilt trips because I use multiple email addresses. Even though you thank me when I give, I don't think you track who is actually giving and stop repeatedly asking for more money. I know it's tough raising money on a volunteer basis, and most organizations tend to go after the few who do donate all the more, but it makes one want to stop altogether to avoid ever-increasing requests. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.163.51.31 (talk) 02:18, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, IP editor. Wikipedia is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation, which is the group asking you for money. Wikipedia operates almost entirely independently from the foundation, and Wikipedia editors have no power over how the fundraising campaign operates. Please contact the foundation directly about any concerns you have about fundraising. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 02:26, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I believe if you have an account, you can disable the notices. IPs cannot disable the notices and there is no system to identify which users of IP addresses give money and which don't, as multiple people could use a single IP address. Also, if you don't wish to give money at any point in time, then don't. It's your money. 331dot (talk) 03:04, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Anuraj Sandhu You edited your user page, which is not article space, but a place for to tell the Wikipedia community about yourself in the context of your Wikipedia editing or use. It isn't meant to be a place to draft articles. You have a sandbox for that purpose(User:Anuraj Sandhu/sandbox); you can also use Articles for Creation to create and submit a draft. However, even if you had used the sandbox, your draft still likely would have been deleted, as it was a promotional piece for the organization, cited to nothing other than routine announcements or press release-type articles, which do not establish that the organization meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable organization. If you work for this organization, you must disclose that per the conflict of interest and paid editing policies. You might want to read Your First Article and use the new user tutorial to learn more about Wikipedia before attempting to write a draft(which is the most challenging thing to do on Wikipedia). 331dot (talk) 10:52, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Spurious blank lines

How do I stop Wikipedia from adding spurious blank lines in front of everything I post? The only way I've found is to go to preview so that the blank lines become visible, and remove them manually. However, this is both time consuming and does not always work. How do I fix the issue? Reyk YO! 11:01, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I found an example in [1]. Are you saying your browser does not display blank lines in the edit window [2]? I see blank lines before Hiatus and Cool. What is your browser, and skin at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-rendering? Do you see the blank lines with safemode or if you log out? PrimeHunter (talk) 13:06, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I mostly use Firefox, but have run into the same problem with Edge and Chrome as well. Typically, I don't see the spurious blank lines when I'm initially editing. If I hit save without doing preview first they only get put in at that point. If I do hit preview they become visible in the edit window, and then I can remove them. However, even then they still get reintroduced maybe one time in ten when I hit save. It's very annoying. Safe mode seems to make no difference. My skin is MonoBook. Geminer If a subject is not covered in independent reliable sources with significant coverage, it does not merit an article on Wikipedia. First hand knowledge or other primary sources are not usually acceptable for establishing notability. If you have a conflict of interest with a subject that you are writing about, you should review the conflict of interest policy. 331dot (talk) 17:23, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Geminer: Good idea for now, but keep monitoring the reliable sources, and when you see this stuff reported there, make suggestions on the talk page to get the information into the article. Article "Renaissance music"

Why is the section "Middle Renaissance" empty? Is someone in the process of revising this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.233.29.114 (talk) 18:29, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In this edit, editor Jerome Kohl blanked the section with the edit summary "deleted unsupported claims, challenged since August 2016 and February 2019". So the contents of the section were unsourced, and people had gone in previously and marked them with uncited, so Jerome Kohl removed the content, as any editor has a right to do. Since Jerome Kohl made a subsequent edit to the article, it does not seem likely that he is working on the section. You are welcome to do so. If you look in the history (and at the diff I linked to) you can see what the content was: you are welcome to work on that, but you need to find published sources for whatever you put in. (I have pinged Jerome Kohl above, so if he comes on Wikipedia he will see this). --ColinFine (talk) 18:46, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Colin, for the ping. Indeed I am not working on that section, and I agree that 50.233.29.114 is welcome to bring back any of the deleted material for which reliable sources can be found. I was unable to do so, but perhaps I could have tried harder. I just got tired of seeing those aging tags.—Jerome Kohl (talk) 21:26, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

Hello. I've spent so much time, but I can't seem to get my signature right. I'm not fluent in the markup code, so I've been testing it out a lot. Below is the source code I put. The "Melo" should have blue text and a black background, and the "fors" should have black text and a blue background. However, this isn't working out how I planned.

I also ran into something weird. Using the code in my userpage, you can see on my userpage (you'll see at the beginning of my userpage) that the signature actually looks exactly how it's supposed to, expect the signature link doesn't work.

Could someone help me out to make the signature colors look how it's supposed to?

<span style="font-weight:bold;padding:1px;background-color:#000000;color:#00ffae">Melo</span><span style="font-weight:bold;padding:1px;background-color:#00ffae;color:#000000">fors</span>

Melofors

Melofors 00:55, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here you go: Melofors <b style="padding:1px;background:black;color:#0fb">Melo</b><b style="padding:1px;background:#0fb;color:black;>fors</b>. The blue color of the link took precedent so you need to add these spans inside the link. On your user page the links in your signature just turn bold instead of being links since they point to the same page they're on. – Thjarkur (talk) 01:05, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Þjarkur: Ah, that makes sense. I really appreciate your time, but unfortunately, when I insert your code in Preferences, I get an error message saying it's invalid. Here's a screenshot of what I see: https://imgur.com/a/JLldRvm Sorry for the bother. Melofors 03:05, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But otherwise the name is fine, Anuraj Sandhu. But before you recreate your user page, please read WP:User pages to understand what may go there. You may put almost anything there that is relevant to your activities as a Wikipedia editor: that is what it is for. You may include a small amount of more general information about yourself, but nothing that looks promotional.
Before you do any further work on Draft:Canam consultants Ltd. you need to read and comply with WP:COI and WP:PAID. You'll then need to read WP:NCORP: I've only looked at the first three references in that draft, but they are all to statements which come from you and your colleagues. Wikipedia is basically not interested in what the subject of an article says about itself: it is only interested in what people who have no connection with the subject have chosen to publish about it. If all you are trying to do is to get information about your company on Wikipedia, then I suggest you stop, and find another site to promote it: you will have a very frustrating time trying to do it on Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 17:00, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wondering when artist Paul Robinson's entry will be up

Paul Robinson Nina Simone's drummer for her final 19 years and Van Morrison's drummer and who has worked with so many huge names and venues; Someone called Richard Seaglove apparently recently did the entire Wiki entry and said several months ago that it would be up. Paul is about to release a biography of his time with Nina Simone. We are wondering why his Wiki entry is not up yet. Really important for agents and publishers to see it up here before the book is released. Can you perhaps let me know why it's not yet up there? Is it still being verified? Blessings and many thanks for Wiki Rebecca <email address redacted> — Preceding unsigned comment added by PoeticPlenties (talkcontribs) 09:44, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

There is no Wikipedia editor with a username of Richard Seaglove. The only draft with a name of Paul Robinson is Draft:Paul Robinson (wrestler). You also need to be aware that Wikipedia is not here for promotion. --David Biddulph (talk) 10:13, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm afraid, Rebecca, that it sounds awfully much as if you have been taken by a scam artist. Maybe not: maybe this was somebody in good faith; but neither David Biddulph nor I can find any hint of either Richard Seaglove or a draft about Robinson. (It's perfectly possible that Seaglove is an editor using a pseudonym, in which case we have no hope of finding him). Nobody can guarantee that a particular article will be accepted, and certainly not that it will be accepted by any particular time. Since Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, which may not be used for promotion of any kind, there is no deadline. Bluntly, Wikipedia is not interested in whether agents and publishers see it here or not. --ColinFine (talk) 17:17, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Quickfitautos! Short version: don't try. Longer version: WP:COI. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:38, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Quickfitautos Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a place for companies to tell the world about themselves. Wikipedia is only interested in what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about companies that can show how that company meets Wikipedia's special definition of a notable company. Wikipedia is not interested in what a company wants to say about itself. Because of this, not every company merits an article here, even within the same field. Wikipedia has no interest in enhancing search results for your company or aiding your potential customers.
You also would have what we call a conflict of interest and are a paid editor. You must comply with those policies(the latter is a Terms of Use requirement and mandatory). For that reason, you should avoid directly editing about your company. If you have reviewed the definition of a notable company and truly feel that your company meets the definition, you should allow independent editors to take note of your company and write about it on their own. Also keep in mind that a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable. There are good reasons to not want one. You cannot lock it to the text you might prefer or prevent others from editing it. Any information about your company, good or bad, could go in such an article as long as it appears in an independent source. 331dot (talk) 10:45, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I created a draft (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:LEEDS_JEWISH_WELFARE_BOARD) and I am not sure what the next step is? How do I get this page live? Thank you for your help!

Nobenfo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nobenfo (talkcontribs) 11:01, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nobenfo You can use Articles for Creation to submit your draft for review- but as it is now it has almost no chance of being accepted, as it is essentially an advertisement for the organization. Submitting it for review now would just, frankly, waste your time and that of the reviewer. If you work for this organization, you need to review conflict of interest and paid editing. You should also review Your First Article and perhaps use the new user tutorial to learn more about Wikipedia and the process of creating an article.
Please understand that Wikipedia articles must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage state about the subject, and not what the subject wants to say about itself. The organization must be shown to meet the special definition of a notable organization that Wikipedia has. 331dot (talk) 11:08, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to open a AfD group nomination

A larger number of articles in Category:Technical_festivals_in_India needed a AfD than I expected. I'm wondering how I could open a group nomination over a list of them instead of AfDing problem articles as I come across them. --MoonyTheDwarf (Braden N.) (talk) 14:18, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Moonythedwarf, There are detailed instructions at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#How to nominate multiple related pages for deletion.
Do note, However, the caution there: An article with a fair or better chance of standing on its own merits should not be bundled— nominate it separately. For the avoidance of doubt, bundling should not be used to form consensus around policy decisions such as "should Wikipedia include this type of article". Bundling AfDs should be used only for clear-cut deletion discussions based on existing policy. If you're unsure, don't bundle it. It might well be that some festivals have sources that would tend to demonstrate notability, and others do not.
If you do a bundled nomination, I would advise a careful WP:BEFORE search on every separate article, and throguh notiofication of the creators and major contributors, lest there be eventual pushack at WP:DRV, and more importantly so that we do not miss sources, including sources that might be in languages other than English. log in problems

I have a page under review but it won't let me log in and says there is no email associated with the page. How do I get help resetting my password if it won't recognize any email associated with username? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.163.249.131 (talk) 15:59, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you added an email address to your account under your Preferences, you should be able to use it to recover your password. Make sure that your email address is typed correctly(the caps lock is off, for one) and that it is the right email address. If that does not work, there is nothing else that can be done as that is the only way to recover your password. In that circumstance, you would need to create a new account and identify it as a successor to your original account.
I'll add that you should still be able to look at your draft page whether or not you are logged in. 331dot (talk) 16:02, 4 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
