Award

The Sri Lankan Barnstar of National Merit
For your continuous creation of articles on notable Sri Lankans, Sri Lankan history and other random Sri Lanka related topics. I look forward to seeing what is next. Blackknight12 (talk) 09:52, 12 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Lanka

Regarding the continues dispute on the Civil War section in the Sri Lanka article, I'm suggesting that everyone pull-out from editing and make any suggested constructive edits on this mediation sandbox. On the 18th, we can start discussing the content on the same page's discussion, to be able to seek consensus before we add anything to the main article. It's a high-traffic article, and I don't want to be a reason for misleading readers. So please keep it in your watchlist. Happy editing... Reverting

Hey, I have come to ask you as a friend and fellow editor to stop the constant reverting. Persistent reverters will eventually be punished and losing a valuable contributer like you, would not end out good for Wikipedia. So please take it easy. Thanks.--Blackknight12 (talk) 12:54, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I've noticed, that is why I have warned him and if that user continues, which it looks like the user has, I shall report that user for reverting instead of starting and having a proper discussion. But I'd advise you not to do the same.--Blackknight12 (talk) 14:57, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jaffna

I have been trying to create a situation in Wikipedia where we can write encyclopedic articles without constant bickering from both sides. For example, Jaffna is a colonial city founded by the Portuguese, the only history it had prior to it is that it's port was in use by the native Jaffna kings and what is today a suburb Nallur also known as Japapatuna in Sinhalese is within its city limits. Prior to it, it had no known history. What you want to write about Kingdom of Tambapanni may apply to the whole of Jaffna Peninsula but lets leave the colonial city to it's true origin just like Colombo but unlike Kandy which have their own history prior to being reused by the colonials. The article List of attempted assassinations of the Sri Lankan Civil War has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Considering it a selective POV listing (simi-POVFORK of List of assassinations of the Sri Lankan Civil War), and 8 attempts definitely don't need a separate article!

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ~ AdvertAdam talk 08:40, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article N. Q. Dias has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. joe deckertalk to me 16:43, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on N. Q. Dias requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Edit warring

Your recent edits seem to have the appearance of edit warring. Users are expected to collaborate and discuss with others and avoid editing disruptively.

Please be particularly aware, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss the changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Intoronto1125TalkContributions 18:07, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is that a threat ? Cossde (talk) 18:34, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is a request, I didnt know whether you knew about it it not. Now you know that 3 reverts leads to automatic block, so I dont want to report it unless you did it knowingly and dont care about the consequences. Wil you self revert ? Thanks Kanatonian (talk) 18:36, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I can not differentiat between a request and a threat made by you ! Cossde (talk) 18:42, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I did not have to request you to self revert, others would have simply reported you. I like to give people time to fix their problems before seeking admin intervention. It is upto you to take that opportunity to self revert. Thanks Kanatonian (talk) 18:45, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry to have to do this, but obviously you are not in the mind set today to work this out. I am not in Wikipedia to fight with people, because you dont contribute to articles when wasting time arguing with people so I do my best to avoid it like we did on previous articles. It is still not too late for you to self revert and discuss this in the talk page about the issues amd i will withdraw my reporting. Because you seem to have two incidents of violating 3RR within a short period of time and that will be sending red flags to admins. I would urge you to calm down listen to Blacknight told you many months ago and constructively contribute to Wikipedia. We need Wikipedians who can contribute constructuvely about Sri Lanka and related subjects, we are very few indeed. Kanatonian (talk)

Do you want to have in an encylopedic article an erotic image of a Sinhalese woman taken by the colonial masters ? Kanatonian (talk) 18:28, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't the colonial masters who brought about this practice ! It was there long before they came with cameras . Cossde (talk) 18:30, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
But still do you want a degrading picture of a Sinhalese wome belonging to a lower caste in an encylopedic article ? Will you leave it if it belonged to a high caste woman, what value does a picture that shows the bare breasts of a woman brings to the article ? Kanatonian (talk) 18:38, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Encylopedic article record history as it is. It reflects how the society was back then. Cossde (talk) 18:43, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring at Trincomalee

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring, as you did at Trincomalee. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.

Hello Cossde. Please be aware that the 'death list' section has been extensively discussed on the article talk page. Please don't simply revert while ignoring the debate. Nalanda College Colombo

Your behaviour and attitude towards Nalanda College Colombo is appauling. I know that you are a highly decorated and awarded wikipedian. This time you even put "Nalanda Central College Colombo". What's next name on the list ? (Masu7 (talk) 22:58, 17 October 2011 (UTC))[reply]

I am reporting about User: Cossde He is deliberately attacking this web page and this time gone too far (Nalanda Central College Colombo). He seems to think that he only knows English and every thing he writes only is correct. I have gone through the pages that he had edited most and he is mostly inclined towards slinging mud towards a good looking and well written page like Nalanda College Colombo. Can a single user just because he is got highly decorated awards by wikipedia keep doing like this ? Nalanda College Colombo has got a high rate given by the viewers too. May be this guy is jealous of this. Will keep writing useful translations to SINHALA as well. In reality this school has it's own web pages nicely done on internet too.(Masu7 (talk) 01:29, 18 October 2011 (UTC)).

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Thanking you so much. Well my question is "Why is this user Cossde is not allowing me to name this article as Nalanda College, Colombo. He is always reverting it back to either Nalanda Vidyalaya or Nalanda Maha Vidyalaya and this time have been so smart and added (Nalanda Central College Colombo) within brackets. This shows what his attitude even though he is won so many awards from wikipedia. In that case I myself (I am talented and fluent in English too although my native language is not English) too have immensly contributed so many pages both in Sinhala and English even though I have no user page created for myself. Cossde may think that he is the only person who knows correct English and he is the only person who is honest and reporting extremely accurately. I strongly suggest that a senior administrator should keep an eye on his editing and attitude as well.(Masu7 (talk) 02:15, 18 October 2011 (UTC)). (Masu7 (talk) 02:19, 18 October 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

This link was posted to Cossde's talk page where an IP user has logged a page of disgruntled posts detailing their naming dispute. It's basically an attack page on how Cossde has been changing the references of Old Royalists to Alumni of various colleges in Sri Lanka back in Nov 2010. (I might nominate this for MfD) Basically this is boiling down to a content dispute which hasn't actually been discussed on any talk page. Masu7 has posted the same text they posted here on Cossde's talk page, which reeks of bad faith and ownership of the article. Having a look at Masu7's contribs, they're obviously a WP:SPA, not in a bad way, devoted to editing anything related to the Nalanda college. The problem is that this user has been here since 2007 and has a few thousand edits of which I can count on barely two hands the number of times they've used an edit summary. I suggest that Masu7 actually talk to Cossde and discuss the edits before hurling accusations at them. --Blackmane (talk) 08:40, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi, since I was named here, just wanted to say that my recent edits have been to rectify a naming anomaly on the articles since the name used in the Sri Lankan Governemnt Gazette [63]. The name stated Nalanda Maha Vidyalaya, translated to English it means Nalanda Big College, however Maha Vidyalaya is the name given to a form of government run schools known as central colleges hence the Nalanda Maha Vidyalaya would mean Nalanda Central College. Since it appeared so on the Sri Lankan Governemnt Gazette I renamed the articles accordingly as its a government school. Cossde (talk) 13:05, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Yes you are named here (a complaint about user Cossde) no doubt. This user seem to make words according to his/her own wish and still dominate and specifically target Nalanda College Colombo. It is extremely interesting to read user Cossde history pages [It's basically an attack page on how Cossde has been changing the references of Old Royalists to Alumni of various colleges in Sri Lanka back in Nov 2010. (I might nominate this for MfD) - please do so if Wikipedia has got a proper administration, I request as any one who understands English and read this page can understand what Cossde's motive is]. This is a classic clear cut of this user's [Cossde] ATTITUDE (specially towards other schools other than Highly Esteemed Royal College Colombo). I am amazed as to how this user got so many awards from Wikipedia. I am [user Masu7] not a super speaker of English or have no super understanding of millions of rules that are on Wikipedia web site (I think majority of users are in same boat as me).(Masu7 (talk) 01:25, 19 October 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

First of all, do not keep putting up the ANI notice template at the start of each of your posts. I've just done some map searching on Google Maps. The two names refer to different locations. A search for Nalanda College Colombo locates to central Colombo (next to Ananda as the article says) while a search for Nalanda Maha Vidyalaya locates to separate girls and boys schools in Minuwangoda. To make things even mroe confusing, there is another Nalanda Maha Vidyalaya article for an obscure school in Elpitiya which Google maps locates to another Ananda College. I think the editors need to hash out which schools they're talking about before going back to the article. Masu7 please refrain from attacking editors when you have not attempted to discuss the article content at all. Also, Cossde's "awards" are not from Wikipedia, they are signs of appreciation of their work by other editors here. Any editor can place an "award" on any other editor's user page. Please read this policy. --Blackmane (talk) 11:34, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are right about the Google Maps search. Wiki Article in question is the one that locates to central Colombo (next to Ananda as the article says). I am talking about Nalanda College in Colombo and below are the related sites both in English and Sinhala:

If for example Royal College is searched you get a Royal College Panadura [3], Royal College Polonnaruwa [4] etc. If some one wants to carry on the debate it will be never ending. It is not confusing. This is not a personal attack on any editor at all. It is just a fact that I am presenting to Wiki Administrators regarding none other than editor Cossde. If the administrators go through this users actions it is not hard to understand at all. I too appreciate the good work done by editor Cossde but not his attitude specially focussed to the site that I am concerned.(Masu7 (talk) 00:39, 20 October 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

      • You do not have to be a genius to understand what my initial issue is. According to my research on wikipedia there should only be one Royal College in Sri Lanka. Below paragraphs are found on Royal College, Colombo that say (without any credible references):

Royal and other Schools - Royal College's maintains a century old rivalry with S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia as well as close ties with Trinity College, Kandy. Royal has long had a familial relationship with C.M.S. Ladies' College, Colombo : several families who chose to send their sons to Royal also chose to send their daughters to Ladies College, and many Old Royalists over the years have married alumni of C.M.S. Ladies' College, Colombo.

In 1945, Minister of Education C. W. W. Kannangara began the establishment of central colleges (Madhya Maha Vidhyala) as part of the Free Education policy to provide secondary education for the rural masses, he modeled these schools on the general structure of Royal College. Although there are several schools in parts of the island that have adapted the name Royal College in the post-independence era; none have links to Royal College Colombo nor have been received formal permission to use the Royal prefix.

This makes sense why editors like Cossde are trying their best to make any school coming up as Royal on wikipedia to be renamed as Rajakeeya (this is the name in Sinhala for Royal) or to isolate from Royal College Colombo.

On Cinnamon Gardens page it tries to isolate Thurstan College that is located just closer to Royal College (when a map searching is done on Google Maps) being added.

If such a statement is added to one of the other schools it will be deleted immediately saying that "Wikipedia is not for promotional activity". Why double standards and policies ?. Who monitors activity on Royal College, Colombo ?. (Masu7 (talk) 08:50, 20 October 2011 (UTC)).[reply]

Your recent editing history at Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation shows that you are in danger of breaking the three-revert rule, or that you may have already broken it. An editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Breaking the three-revert rule often leads to a block.

If you wish to avoid being blocked, instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to discuss the changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. You may still be blocked for edit warring even if you do not exceed the technical limit of the three-revert rule if your behavior indicates that you intend to continue to revert repeatedly. Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Royal College (disambiguation), did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Seriously, you need to stop

You were reported for two instances of ongoing edit warring at WP:ANEW. Because multiple users were involved in each edit war, I didn't feel blocking you alone would be a fair course of action, and I opted to fully protect both pages for a week. But based on these two incidents, previous edit warring reports that went without action, and your previous block for edit warring, it would seem that chronic edit warring is something of a problem of yours. I would strongly suggest you refrain from edit warring with other users, and discuss disputes on talk pages. Swarm X 04:47, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Umm, Sorry to bug you but I think your 'reversion of vandalism' ended up deleting much of the Royal College, Colombo article. Or could you clarify how those sections constituted vandalism?--Vercalos (talk) 08:37, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ah. Thank you for explaining it. You might want to bring up the matter with administrators, and issue appropriate warnings when reverting edits. Royal College, Colombo

Anna Frodesiak asked me to protect Royal College, Colombo, which I've done, for 1 week. I just wanted to let you know that you need to be careful about what you call vandalism, and how many times you revert it. While those edits seem to be self-evidently wrong, they appear to be POV pushing, and WP:VANDAL explicitly points out that NPOV violations don't count as vandalism. The reason I mention this is because I think you crossed 3RR on your reverts, and because those weren't actually vandalism, you're not entitled to the exceptions to 3RR. I'm certainly not going to block you, as I can see you were acting in good faith to prevent the article from being wrong, but I thought you should know. In the future, just ask at WP:RFPP, or even ask me directly, if the disruption restarts. Qwyrxian (talk) 11:43, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Although, now that I'm looking at the rest of your talk page, I'm wondering if I should be so lenient....seriously, you're only going to get so many "last chances". Edit warring is never the correct way to solve a problem, even (actually, especially) when you're right. Qwyrxian (talk) 11:45, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mickey Dias; What Aircraft did he fly in?

Although its said in one reference that he was a tail gunner in a Lancaster He served in Coastal Command. The duties were anntisubmarine and anti shipping. One reference refers to Leigh Light bombers. It is more likely that he flew in Wellingtons or Halifaxes equiped with a Leigh Light than Lancasters. This may have to be edited to the more accurate but less specific by quoting a diffeent reference and stating that he flew in a "LeighLight Squadron". What do you think? The article Selvanathan Kadirgamar has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unremarkable

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Sri Lanka Armed Forces. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.Joseph Fox 08:33, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speculations of the Elu language.

Early inhabitants did not speak "Elu". The Mahavamsa described the early inhabitants as Nagas(Snake worshipers) and Yakshas(Demon worshipers) which is a Dravidian HINDU tradition. Second, many Tamil sources such as the Mahavamsa have recorded history of the Naga aka Nakar in the coastal areas of Tamilakam (South India and North and North Eastern Parts of Sri Lanka) and spoke Tamil. IT is evident that the early inhabitants such as the Nagas of Sri Lanka were of different origin in linguistic aspects when compared to the present day speakers of the South, central, Sri lanka(Sinhalese). Which is why the speculations of their language should be added in the article Sri Lanka.(Tamilan101 (talk) 07:33, 2 February 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Check this link [[5]] according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Cossde Royal College Colombo is the only school that has Royal charter or consent to use Royal prefix in Sri Lanka (Masu7 (talk) 10:27, 7 March 2012 (UTC))[reply]

Okay, if that's true, to add to the Royal College Colombo article, it 1) needs a source, and 2) needs to be written differently. You can't put two different sets of parenthesis next to each other. Finally, even if all of that were fixed, I think it's probably not important enough for the lead, and definitely not important enough for the first sentence. Qwyrxian (talk) 10:54, 7 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please. Stop adding the claim that Royal College Colombo is the only college that can "officially" use the word "Royal" in Sri Lanka until you have a reliable secondary source that verifies this claim. Period. This is a disputed point (obviously, by the simple fact that other colleges have the word and the government has never tried to stop them). So you need a rock solid source, and even then we'll have to phrase in terms of "Source X has argued that ..." But until you have that source, it cannot be in the article, per WP:V. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:14, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

It was the user super accurate Cossde who had mentioned about this on Royal College Colombo article [1]. In fact he dominates or all users and wants to have only one school that uses "Royal" prefix in wikipedia (saying it is only Royal College Colombo who is entitled and got the consent to use the Royal prefix by Royal charter without absolutely no references at all. Infact this user may be thinking that Royal College Colombo although situated in Colombo Sri Lanka is located in United Kingdom.

His prestigious bullying attempts can be clearly seen on Cinnamon Gardens article as well and attempts to avoid Thurstan College Colombo being added.(Masu7 (talk) 02:59, 8 March 2012 (UTC)).(Masu7 (talk) 03:08, 8 March 2012 (UTC)).[reply]

Royal Colleges

You know, at first I was just going to wait and see if you responded, but I figured I should courteously let you know in case you're not watching it: I've moved Panadura Rajakeeya Vidyalaya to Royal College Panadura. My explanation is on the article's talk page. I was finally shown the extent of your argument, and I see now that your position simply does not meet our policies. We use the English title of a subject, unless it does not have one. Period. If they call themselves Royall College Panadura in English, that is what we call them, even if you believe that name is legally incorrect. Feel free to voice your concerns there. Please note that should you object, I will take the matter to formal discussions. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:27, 8 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cossde - Show the world your entitlement and consent to use Royal prefix to your Royal College Colombo before claiming that other schools that use Royal prefix do not have entitlement and consent by Royal charter to be called Royal. You also always try to sling mud at Nalanda College Colombo. Do you think that the students from Nalanda College Colombo do not have the entitlement or consent to talk and write English by Royal charter ?. I also have clearly seen your desperate attempts to avoid Thurstan College Colombo being added to Cinnamon Gardens page. Shame on you Royal College Colombo. Do you think that you own Wikipedia ? Check your page ratings at the bottom too.(Masu7 (talk) 04:40, 8 March 2012 (UTC)).[reply]

Masu7, I have no issue with Nalanda College Colombo, however try to maintain factual accuracy for example correcting your Nalanda College Old Boys Union to Nalanda College Junior Old Boys Association is a favor for you. It seems you dont know the correct name of you own Alumni Association, just as you may not know the correct name of your own school. So it is you who has to stop lying.
