Accused of copying

I recently received a message from MadmanBot saying that the Wikipedia page I've created was copied, which it isn't. The link sent to me along with the message is from mashpedia and at the bottom under my article on the page it says that the source of the information is from Wikipedia. Honestly, in doing a search for reliable sources I couldn't find any so I don't think this has a snowball's chance of surviving a CSD for notability. I am going to boldly move this page over to the user sandbox so it can be worked on there without being lost. I will post a link on the user's talk page. Wright Brothers talk page edit

Hello, I just made an edit to the Wright brothers Talk page, but cannot see the rendered text in either Internet Explorer (v8) or Firefox (v18), WinXP. I made the edit as the start of a new Section titled, "Re: proposed edits". The edit does appear in the Talk Page history and the text of the edit can also be seen in the diff. But the actual text of the new section does not show up in the fully rendered page. I also did not see the rendered edit as an addition to the previous Talk section, which is why I made it as a new section. I've never had such an issue before. I've fixed it. The edit immediately before yours had an incorrectly closed ref tag, it used <\ref> to close instead of </ref> (backslash instead of frontslash). I've fixed the tag and everything should be fine now. --Jayron32 05:15, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Search Comparison of antivirus software for "Quick Heal Technologies" and you will find four entries in the table for Quick Heal Technologies. I'll list File:Quick Heal.PNG for deletion. Mass Turnpike article; History; First fatality on Pike

Growing up I was told my Great Grandfather was the first fatality on the MA Pike; and even still today my family insists this is true. When my Great Grandfather died several articles were written about his death: Here is one of them. He died in Aug of 1957 (Transcription from Boston Herald; Aug 4, 1957)

The above article does not say that Samuel Higgins was the first fatality on the Massachusetts Turnpike. I Googled "First fatality on Pike"[2] and it mentions something about a "It was Albert's first day Retires Cyclist Killed First Fatality on Pike," which does not seem to relate to Samuel Higgins. A general Google search turned up information on Samuel Nathaniel Higgins (1891-1957),[3] but not the first fatality information. If the information is not something published by a Wikipedia Reliable Source, then it could not make its way into the article (e.g., if the first fatality fact is sourced only to your family's oral history, it would first need to be in print in a Wikipedia Reliable Source to be able to add it to the Massachusetts Turnpike article.) Editing an article

At the top of every article is a bunch of tabs. One of them says "edit". Click that tab, and you'll be allowed to add text to the article. There's a lot more details at Help:Editing which explain some of the workings of the edit window in more details. The one exception is if the article is if the article is "protected", which is sometimes necessary to prevent people from vandalizing the article (see Wikipedia:Protection policy). If the article is protected, you can use the article talk page to request an edit. Simply click the "Talk" tab at the top of the page, and start a new thread there as you just did here. --Jayron32 15:08, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

use of an image in abook that may be published?

Almost any image on Wikipedia can be reused, even in print. Check the image page for the license details, most of which only require a link-back to the original image and the full license text. Rmhermen (talk) 18:35, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Click on the image and then read the details of its license. Some of the images on the English Wikipedia are used under 'fair use' arguments and it would be unwise to copy them without being sure how the argument would apply to the new use. Most of the images hosted on Wikipedia are non-free, no doubt, but I would interpret "any image on Wikipedia" as meaning "any image used on Wikipedia". I'm pretty sure most people have no idea where the images on (i.e. visible on) Wikipedia are hosted - in fact, from time to time we get a question from somebody who has tried to link an image without uploading it at all. How do I download a picture or article so that I can incorporate it with my written Poetry

You can download a picture by using the facilities in your web-browser (for example, on Firefox it is an item on the right-click menu called "Save image as"). It is usually best to click on the image first, to get it in full size and resolution.

You can download an article using your browser as well, but that is not usually useful. Better is either to pick "Print/Export -> Download as PDF" from the tool bar at the side; or you can copy and paste text if you just want some of it.

In general you are allowed use almost all text and many images from Wikipedia for any purpose, as long as you acknowledge the source: the exception is some images which are used in Wikipedia under a fair-use exemption. I tried adding the template {{other people}} to each of the article pages to direct readers to the disambiguation page, but it doesn't work. It reproduces the full article title in each case, i.e. John Hunt Udall, and John Udall (Puritan). How can I get it to merely state 'For other people named John Udall see John Udall (disambiguation)? Continued section blanking at Chi Omega

IP 192.5.215 has vandalized Chi Omega by section blanking for the third time. 192 is probably associated with the sorority and was warned previously to stop. Should I remove redundant reference links?

In Singapore Exchange#Acquisition, the last sentence of the paragraph has four citations, namely 28, 29, 30 and 31. Cite 28 died a while ago, cite 29 is hidden behind a paywall. Cites 30 and 31 are alive and are press releases made directly by the company in question (Singapore Exchange Ltd.). From the standpoint of the article, cite 28 is dead, because the cited information is no longer in that location. It is too long ago for me to remember what exactly that source said when I created the citation (I vaguely recall it exactly gave the date of the acquisition and explicitly stated that SICOM had been made a 100% subsidiary of SGX, but I am not sure). However there is no longer an entry at the key developments titled Singapore Exchange Limited Completes Acquisition of Singapore Commodity Exchange Limited, which is the name I gave the citation back then, so I guess there existed an entry under that name at that time. I already tried to contact Reuters and asked them via E-Mail whether that source were still accessible somewhere (or still on their servers at all). Unfortunatly I only received one automatic reply telling me somebody would deal will my request shortly and never heard from them again. The links Purplewowies gave are all good ones. But I thought you might like to see an summary answer as well. The answer is that Wikipedia may have an article about your invention only if several reliable sources, independendent of you (and independent of anybody else associated with the invention) have written about the invention in depth (not just a mention in a list). If it does meet that criterion (which we call "notability") then it may be the subject of an article; but it should not be you that writes the article, because you have a conflict of interest. --ColinFine (talk) 23:46, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

.MOV or .MP4 to .OGV file conversion

The free Miro Video Converter software that I am using does not do so well with creating .ogv files from 640x480 .mov video files (or .mp4 crops of those files). See File:20120126 Simeon-Whitney Young pregame shootaround layup lines.ogv. Although my original is not so great, I was hoping not to lose so much quality in the conversion. Eldridge

I would not call Eldridge a suburb. It is a small town. There is a difference. It is really pretty much self-contained. They have 2 banks, doctors, dentists, gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, a high school, an intermediate school, an elementary school, post office, library, hardware store. Churches. Really everything a town needs to survive. It does not have clothing store. It does not have a Walmart...you can get to a Walmart, or other store quicker coming from Eldridge, than one who lives in the city of Davenport, considering driving half way across town with traffic. I'm not 100% sure I know what you're asking. There is no way I know of to find the pages you've "reviewed" in the past, except if what you've viewed is saved in your browser's history tab. However, at the top right of every page there is a link labeled "Contributions" which links to your contribution history where you can look at every single edit you've ever made that has not been to a deleted page (or occasionally hidden from view).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Not actually true. The National Library of Australia's website sources its biographies from Wikipedia rather than trying to write their own, and many GLAM institutions are going down similar paths. Now, if the problem is that they're linking to the wrong person, that probably requires some co-ordination and working out how they pick which article to use; if, however, it's the right article but with incorrect information, you can either learn how to edit the article to update the information (of course giving appropriate sources to confirm the correction) or provide the sources on the article's talk page and try to get someone's attention (possibly someone who's already contributed to the article) to fix it.

That said, it would be easier to work out how to fix the problem if we know who the author is we're talking about. Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 05:22, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

There is a world of difference between "supplied by [[WP]" and "they get it from WP". The former implies that someone at WP selected the article and actively gave it to someone at the library, the latter (and far more likely explanation) is that someone at the library simply selected the wrong article from among the 4 million we have here - without consulting anyone of us (or the Foundation). The user User:GJTForbes has made 5 edits to an article about a living person that matches his username's initials and last name: Graham John Thomson Forbes. I would get involved, but after having read through policies, I'm still not sure what exactly the user violated, and what warnings should be given, but I do have the sense that policy was indeed violated in some way. A JAR (file format) is actually a ZIP file that contains an executable which runs in Java. Getting sfn template short citation links to references working

I've not used the sfn template. I am in the process of doing a GA review on Ian Gillan and none of the links from the short citations to the full references are working. I am trying to learn and fix this at the same time. I've read several help pages but can't even find a statement of what is needed ( and needed in the given examples) to make those links work. I also haven't wrapped my head around this completely yet. There is an example also using sfn's at Wolstenholme prime. In that article you can see that the first instance of the footnote uses {{Harvnb}}, while every subsequent instance of the footnote uses {{Sfn}}, both wrapped inside <ref> tags. I think I've found the source of the error, though I'm not sure of a solution. In order to link the sfn template apparently (I am not very familiar either) looks for a date and last name. It occurred to me that since the cite book template to Gillan has a second author, using last2=, sfn might be breaking because it's not matching both last names. Maybe the exact detail of what it looks for is not quite correct but, sure enough, if you remove the second author from the cite book template it fixes the error. However, neither removing the second author from the citation breaking full attribution, nor adding the second author in the sfn template thus substantially enlarging each shortened footnote, feels like quite the correct solution.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 15:29, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

It's consistent. Checking my supposition from the other direction, if, instead of removing last2=, you add the second name to the sfn template, i.e., {{sfn|Gillan|Cohen|1993}}, that also fixes the error. Creating a table when there's already a lot of text

I started an article that I think can potentially be very useful List of State-owned enterprises in the People's Republic of China but I don't know how to organize it into a proper table. How do I create a table with one row for each company? How do I create 5 columns (name of company, industries, employees, revenue, profit)?

I have tried every source to find the answer to changing the info-box at right on The Sky Is Crying (album)

I thought I did it once, but compilation is still there. Compilation does not apply to this release (in the standard use of tag) as all tracks were previously unreleased. Apparently, the confusion began as Jimmie Vaughan received credit for [compiling] the tracks, but it is definitely a studio album of previously unreleased tracks. After some searching I think I have guessed what you refer to. http://catalogue.nla.gov.au/Record/5976914 at the National Library of Australia is about the book "Good as Gold" by an author named Ken Mackenzie. If you click his name then content copied from the Wikipedia article Ken MacKenzie is displayed. That article is about another person (a baseball player) with the same name. Wikipedia has no article about the author. The error is not in Wikipedia but in the website of the National Library of Australia. We are not affiliated with them and I don't know how their website works but if they lack information about somebody then maybe they just copy a Wikipedia article and hope it's the right person. I realize it may be frustrating for you that the library and Wikipedia just blame eachother but I really don't see what Wikipedia can do about this. We have more than 4 milion articles and allow others to copy them. Thousands of unrelated websites have copies of Wikipedia articles. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:19, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

I think a wiki project (Wikipedia:WikiProject Kingdom of Hungary) is unnecesary. We already have a wiki project named Wikipedia:WikiProject Hungary and I don't see why we would create a wiki project for each form of government of a country. Can it be nominated for deletion?

I am also interested if Wikipedia:WikiProject Former countries is correctly applied here Talk:Kingdom of Romania. We talk about an existing country, only the form of government has changed TransylvaniaRomania (talk) 10:00, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

You could also consider merging the "Kingdom of" WikiProjects into the "main" country projects as Task Forces. That way the work done by the projects won't simply be thrown out but could continue under the "main" project. Roger (talk) 11:35, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Logo Change

Good morning.

My company, Select Medical Corporation, underwent a logo change last year and is now known simply as Select Medical (dropping the Corporation). It has been several years since I went through the process of updating a logo (for a different employer...I am new to this company); what is the process for updating the official logo on our wikipedia page which is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Select_Medical_Corporation?

I replaced it with a screenshot from your company website. For future reference: Click on the logo to go to that image file page and then select 'upload new version of this file' The extension needs to be the same, .png in this case. Rule of thumb is 300-500px wide for fair use images. We may be able to upload a higher resolution image if your legal department agrees that it doesn't meet Threshold of originality in the source country being USA I assume. The original artist/copyright holder can also release it under a 'free licence'. This only effects the copyright of the image and not the trademark status, meaning other companies can't use it to sell similar products/services. Your legal deptartment should be able to explain it better than I.--Canoe1967 (talk) 14:18, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

My articles is locked and its says on process.

Hi there, I am having a problem with my article, at the moment its locked as it says its in review process, I cant login to live help its says your user name is in use, loging with other user name. I am trying this but it doesn't let me. I also can't resubmit as there is no option for that anymore. Please help! I also can message to any of the reviewer.
