- France, who failed to make into the semi-finals in Miss Universe 1993, surprisingly made into the semi-finals in Miss World.
- All Latin American countries (except Brazil, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela) introduced themselves in Spanish.
- Curaçao, Italy, Japan, and Turkey introduced themselves in their native languages.
- Aruba, Bermuda, Curaçao, Israel, Mauritius, Netherlands, Paraguay, and Sri Lanka entered the Parade of Nations on stage.

- Half the number of countries which made it into the semi-finals, were not in the semi-finals last year: Philippines (1986), Korea and Sweden (1988), France and Jamaica (1991), and Croatia (first time since its debut in 1992, finishing in fourth place).
- Mauritius (Viveka Babajee), who later became a prominent actress in India, committed suicide on 26 June 2010 at her Bandra residence in Mumbai, India. She also competed in the 1994 Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines where she ranked among the top 25 but failed to be a semi-finalist by only 0.236 marks and got involved in the infamous Metro Manila Film Festival.
- Puerto Rico, Ana Rosa Brito Suarez, also competed at Miss Universe 1997 where she was a semi-finalist, finishing 8th.
- Philippines makes their highest performance since being first runner-up in 1973, and last seen at the top 10 in 1986.
