Fairchild Metro III in 2006

Key Lime Air is a United States airline with corporate headquarters at Centennial Airport in Dove Valley, Colorado, within the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area.[2][3] It was established and started operations in 1997 and operates charter and United Parcel Service cargo feeder operations.[4]

Scheduled air service

Key Lime Air, dba Denver Air Connection (DAC), operates scheduled passenger air charter. DAC operates between Grand Junction Regional Airport in western Colorado and Centennial Airport and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in the Denver area. DAC public-charter flights are operated with various aircraft, including the Dornier 328 Jet, Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner and Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia turboprops, all depending on an on demand basis.

The airline began operating scheduled service between Sheridan County Airport in Wyoming and Denver International Airport on November 19, 2015 utilizing Fairchild Dornier 328JET regional jet aircraft operating as the Denver Air Connection.[5]

On July 1, 2016 the airline began service to Riverton Regional Airport in Riverton, WY operating as the Denver Air Connection and using the same Fairchild Dornier 328JET regional jet aircraft flown on the Sheridan service.[6]

On May 15, 2019, the airline began service to Telluride Regional Airport also operating as Denver Air Connection and using the Dornier 328JET. The service is the first jet service to the Telluride airport. Denver Air Connection has an interline relationship with United Airlines enabling travelers to book flights through either Denver Air Connection or United's Global Network.[7] [8]

On June 1, 2019, the airline began its first essential air service contract at Alliance Municipal Airport, under the Denver Air Connection brand, using the Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner. The service will offer 12 weekly round trips to Denver. Only one of Key Lime Air's Metroliner is set up using the required 9-seat configuration.[9]

Key Lime Air operates on-demand cargo flights using Fairchild Swearingen Metroliner aircraft. Cargo operations carry UPS overnight and express delivery packages throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Kansas

Incidents and accidents

  • December 30, 2014 – A Key Lime Air Cessna 404 Titan, registration N404MG, operating as Flight LYM182, lost one of its two engines shortly after takeoff from Centennial Airport (KAPA), Englewood, Colorado. Operating on one engine, the pilot was unable to successfully return to the airport. The airplane was destroyed by the impact and partially consumed by the post-impact fire. The sole pilot on board the aircraft received fatal injuries. The probable cause could not be determined during the investigation, though the pilot did not properly secure the failed engine - making it more difficult to continue flying.[11]
  • January 21, 2015 – A Key Lime Air Piper PA-31 flying cargo for UPS from Denver International Airport to Colby, Kansas, crashed while attempting to make an emergency landing at Goodland Municipal Airport after sustaining an engine failure. The plane struck power lines before crashing in a field. The sole pilot survived without serious injuries. The aircraft sustained serious damage.[12][13]
  • December 5, 2016 - A Key Lime Air Fairchild Swearingen SA-227DC Metro (twin-turboprop), operating as Flight LYM308, crashed a little after 10:00 P.M. in Camilla, GA. The flight departed from Panama City, Fl (Northwest Florida Beaches, KECP) and was en route to Albany, Ga.(KABY, Southwest Georgia Regional), there were heavy rains and storms in the area at the time of the crash. The sole occupant, the pilot, received fatal injuries.[14]
