hallo...and ehats the difference if it was discussed on merge request link?! few users gave facts, abroad users closed it, nobody can recreate its own view here. like atkmb staff would care if saha or anyone keeps thinking "mb and subpage or 2 pages..." its been enough for long already, edit new topics!

Thoughts

Hi, CaptainEek. Please have a look at what is happening here Mohamed Wisham, help to investigate what is really going on and help the senior editors there to find who is doing what to violate Wikipedia rules, it doesnt look like other AFD's I have seen but damages a beautiful creation. The way it is going on will tarnish my username to be given any responsibility in the future. That is very important. Just mentioned this since you asked for guidance. Existance Leesaaisath 07:57, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Leesaaisath, That AfD is very wild, it has had a lot of votes trafficked to it, by the subject I suspect. If you were in charge of that, I recommend you say so, lest that be found out in other ways. Otherwise, the article seems headed for deletion I'm afraid, as the subject does not seem notable, and our experienced creators have judged it as such. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:38, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks captain, I am not part of it, and I have a feeling the person of that article wont be interested in it. Would you tell me how that article fails the notability? Though I dont agree with all keep or delete votes, I am seeing lot of articles on the person in local language. Does it not state for credibility? Not that article bit Im worried about my other works too. I have decided to part ways from it too and here too. No one really explained me after asking several times here too. Existance Leesaaisath 17:48, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Leesaaisath, Our notability policy. In short: our subjects must receive significant coverage in multiple reliable and independent sources in order to be notable. I.e., enough people need to write about the subject in-depth. Such sources must be quality, and not paid for, or click bait. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:53, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
We do not write about everyone or everything, thus we must have some standard by which to go by. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:54, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Haha I am already learning how to properly reply. That's exactly my point. I wont either fight to put rubbish in here. The point was that this person has been seen in almost all the local major news, and its now in a long time. It is impossible for him to get that done. My main question, these local language news sources arent credible? That was my only argument. Please explain to me that part so I can look later on what to concentrate. Existance Leesaaisath 20:50, 23 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Leesaaisath, Local news is rarely sufficient. For example, I've been in my own local paper several times, but I am not in Wikipedia. We require more than just local notability. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:43, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't Pirates of the Caribbean written about you? I think you should at least get a mention.
haha!! I will make a page and start fighting for few weeks on the pirate captain CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! ... Existance Leesaaisath 20:48, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ideas

Leesaaisath, I promised you I would think of some ideas. I was waiting for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mohamed Wisham to see if you should spend any more time there, but it looks like you should move on. At this point, I think your best route is to write about topics there can be no doubt about your personal involvement with. I personally don't believe the claims, but this will be the best way to move forward. Let the past be the past and move on.

I posted this here so Captain Eek can contribute if he thinks of anything. He can also warn you about any bad advice I might be unintentionally giving.

  • The article Geography of the Maldives has a lot of physical geography, but is very short on human geography. There could be a whole article written about Environmental concerns in the Maldives. I'm not sure if there is enough material but Archaeology in the Maldives might be interesting.
  • A subject I would stay away from at the moment is Tourism in the Maldives, but once you have more experience it might be something to contribute to.
  • This article is called Politics of the Maldives and it could be expanded. Right now Government of the Maldives is directed to this article, but the government part of the article could easily be split into an article on the government structure. There is nothing about the executive structure (there is one on the cabinet) or judicial structure (well one sentence) and these could both be articles. There is an article about the legislative branch. If you decided to you could write an article a summary style Government of the Maldives which would branch into other articles:
Government of the Maldives
Executive Branch article (does not exist)
Cabinet article (exists)
List of Presidents of the Maldives (does not exist)
Legislative Branch article (exists)
Judicial Branch article (does not exist)
  • There are no lists of the leaders of the Maldives, and many of the leaders seem to lack articles. High level political leaders should have no problem meeting notability, but social and religious leaders may. If you write about living people you will need to be extra careful to have plenty of sources that meet WP:RS.
  • Culture of the Maldives needs expansion. It has an influences section, but it is incomplete and needs more history. The artistic scene (artists, film makers, writers, etc) is not covered other than some pictures and crafts is again just some pictures. Both Arts in the Maldives and Crafts in the Maldives could be articles. There could also be an article on Cultural Preservation in the Maldives. There is an article on Music of the Maldives, but it could be expanded (again be careful about writing about living people).
  • Building on your interest in Mohamed Wisham, you could try and write an article on Health and Human Services in the Maldives covering both health care and social/human services.
  • There is no summary overview style article on Religion in the Maldives. There are individual articles on Islam in the Maldives and Hinduism in the Maldives (needs expansion).

I hope this gives you some things to consider writing about. If you decide on a topic, double-check to make sure there is not already an article on it. If you decide to do a summary-style article, I will be happy to help you structure that so it fits with the existing articles.

If you're wondering if a subject might meet WP:N, you can collect the sources you find and then run them past me for an opinion (and I'm sure others could help as well at the teahouse). Getting multiple opinions on something questionable would be advisable.

Forgive any typos, I wrote this and didn't really proofread it. Best wishes from Los Angeles,   // Timothy :: talk  02:54, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

THANK YOU !!!!   // Timothy :: talk  This is what I want in wikipedia, men with integrity and style. I will definitely look into your advice, I am already looking into them. It is quite difficult to get a the real notables up here, because literature is mostly local. That was my thought on the articles from Maldives. That is why I fought to make a point. In Maldives it is nonsense when it comes to media ethics, usually media is paid if to put a person on spot and specially in English. GRR!! I wish you will check and see a solution for it for the future. We have so many historical figures and leaders and contributors to nation, who worked 5 years back too who have no literature.

Lee Hsien Loong article

Hello. I note that you have requested for a ping if one should have questions regarding the "Controversies" section of the Lee Hsien Loong article. I am also well aware that there has been disputes regarding the title in particular and how the presentation of the page differs majorly from other political figures, where controversies (part and parcel of any politician's career), is subsumed into the main article itself.

May I trouble you to look at my proposal on the Talkpage and give an unbiased and neutral opinion on how I can proceed to revamp the page? I would like to note that one editor in particular, SecretSquirrel78, whom I am unfamiliar with, has editwarred in the past to restore the particular section, claiming censorship in local and overseas media and wanting to present the "truth" on Wikipedia. While I do not wish to take into account their conduct from five years previously, I am unsure what to do if my major edits are reverted under the tag WP:STATUS QUO. My proposal has gone unanswered for nearly three weeks straight despite me tagging the regular editors to the article, and I would generally take it as acceptance for my impending edits. Requesting your assistance, nevertheless. Seloloving (talk) 08:38, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please ignore my request for assistance for now, as I have decided to try once more to gather consensus on the matter before making major changes to it. I have pinged the relevant editors again with a more solid and tangible proposal for the section. I apologise in advance if I caused you any trouble. Question

Unless I'm mistaken, Wikipedia:Controversial articles doesn't define "Controversy" in regards to Wikipedia. Is there a definition that can be examined and applied? Since one of the arguments seems to be that the content is not controversy, and that calling it such is OR, I'd like to have that clarified.--97.113.249.101 (talk) 04:02, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Controversial articles is not policy. We determine what we write in articles based on a complex mix of reliable sources, notability, and gobs of other policies. In regards to Jenny Durkan, the coverage seems to be routine WP:NOTNEWS type writing. The claim of OR here is that you are assuming it is a controversy, where no sources seem to show Durkan at the center of a controversy. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 05:43, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I don't understand what you mean by the NOTNEWS argument (given the high profile of Durkan), but is the problem that it was included in a section titled "Controversies"?--174.21.186.160 (talk) 14:33, 27 August 2020 (UTC) Also, yes my IP keeps getting changed. Its me.--174.21.186.160 (talk) 14:47, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well I fail to see how it was a controversy, so that is part of it. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:17, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2020 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with 865 points being required to qualify for the final round, nearly twice as many points as last year. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants with 598 and 605 points being eliminated, and all but two of the contestants who reached the final round having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • Free Hong Kong Bloom6132, with 1478 points gained mainly from 5 featured lists, 12 DYKs and 63 in the news items;
  • IndonesiaHaEr48 with 1318 points gained mainly from 2 featured articles, 5 good articles and 8 DYKs;
  • England Lee Vilenski with 1201 points mainly gained from 2 featured articles and 10 good articles.

Between them, contestants achieved 14 featured articles, 14 featured lists, 2 featured pictures, 87 good articles, 90 DYK entries, 75 ITN entries, 95 featured article candidate reviews and 81 good article reviews. Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. I see that you looked at this article, which has been having some edit-warring recently. One of the editors has filed a DRN request. My question for either you or User:Cyphoidbomb is whether there is a content issue that can possibly be mediated, or whether I should close the DRN request as a conduct dispute. (I can see that there are conduct issues, but sometimes conduct issues go away when a content issue is resolved.)

I have recently received and looked over this list of German Wikipedia Featured Articles whose English equivalents aren't FA (or exist), and noticed several were ornithological in nature. Since you had a bird article as Today's Featured Article a couple days ago, and another bird FA to boot, I thought it'd be a good idea to lean on your experience in the field in any translation project. I have come to make that offer. Here is the list:

Vermilion flycatcher scheduled for TFA

This is to let you know that the Vermilion flycatcher article has been scheduled as today's featured article for October 2, 2020. Please check the article needs no amendments. If you're interested in editing the main page text, you're welcome to do so at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/October 2, 2020, but note that a coordinator will trim the lead to around 1000 characters anyway, so you aren't obliged to do so.

For Featured Articles promoted recently, there will be an existing blurb linked from the FAC talk page, which is likely to be transferred to the TFA page by a coordinator at some point.

We suggest that you watchlist Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors from the day before this appears on Main Page. Thanks! Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:55, 8 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking: when you posted RBG's picture to the main page did you check if it was fully protected? I'm asking because it was not listed at WP:CMP — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 20:59, 21 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@MSGJ: I made sure the local copy was protected, and asked a commons admin off-wiki to protect it, for a faster response. I do think there was a minute or two gap in which it was not protected, that was my bad :) I misinterpreted someone saying they "were on it" to mean that they had done it, and so I posted it before they'd actually finished protecting. I should have double checked, and will definitely do so in the future. ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB)

Hi CaptainEek. Continuing from discord. So, the whole thing is regarding 2 Indian football clubs- ATK and Mohun Bagan (MB). ATK played in Indian Super League (ISL) (top tier league in India) and MB played in I-League (2nd tier league in India). MB is a century old club, and since the league in which they were playing was demoted to 2nd tier, they wanted to join the top tier. Both clubs are based in Kolkata.

  1. In January 2020, it was announced that, ATK owners bought 80% shares in MB and the clubs will merge together into a new football club to play in ISL. Official Press release from MB. Here's a twist. MB Athletic Club (MBAC) is the parent, under which it has departments like football, cricket, hockey etc. The football department is under this company "Mohun Bagan Football Club (India) Private Limited". ATK merged with this company and not with the parent MBAC. ATK plays only football and no other sports.
  2. As the official release said new club, a new article was created. (Keep in mind, MB's website said, it will be a new club).
  3. The new club was supposed to come into existence in 1 June 2020, but due to COVID, it was postponed to 10 July 2020.
  4. So, the announcement happened, club was named ATK Mohun Bagan (ATKMB) and colours, crest of MB were retained. The logo of MB was kept, but with some changes. (You can find the logos in MB article). Here came another twist. The social media handles of ATK were changed to ATKMB (here is the FaceBook page link. check the page history). The social media handles of MBAC were unchanged as the merger happened with the football department of MBAC. Official press release by ATKMB on 10 July.
  5. Just like a coin has 2 sides, the same happening here. As per the new press release of 10 July, it was mentioned that the sentiments of MB fans have been honoured, so the logo and colours retained. On the other hand, coach and players' contract extension like Habas (coach), edu garcia (player) were retained by ATK and they automatically became ATKMB players. Another example is this one. Here the post says "one-year extension" of Carl, who was in ATK squad. Whereas all the players and coaching staff were dismissed automatically from MB, without any mutual termination. This is a post from MB player, who had a long term deal with MB, but automatically cancelled without any notification Here is a ESPN article on this.
  6. Brad is a new player signed by ATKMB (link of post), where he says defending the ISL title, that ATK won in 2019-20 season. Tiri is another player signed by ATKMB, he also says winning again. Whereas, SK Sahil (link), a MB player, when signed for ATKMB, it was written Signed. For ATK players, its extension for MB players its signed. Even ISL's tweet mentioned it as signed.
  7. Coming to licensing with football associations. The clubs are affiliated/licensed to Indian Football Association IFA (state association) and All India Football Federation AIFF (national association). Here is the link of IFA letter, where ATK (owned by Kolkata Games and Sports) wants to disaffiliated. Also, MBAC wants to change to ATKMB. Now, lets come to AIFF website. ATKMB profile link in AIFF. Its rittenn 228 players registered, and it was previously ATK's profile. The address given is also oof ATK. This is MB profile link. Its written 0 players registered. AIFF secretary, referred it as marriage.
  8. The club will play in ISL. So, lets check ISL website. This is ATKMB profile on ISL website. It was previously of ATK. Just renamed to ATKMB. Here also, address is of ATK. The news article given is of ATK. Here are previous seasons (2014-2020) standings/points table of ISL. Everywhere its written ATKMB. So, as per ISL website, ATKMB won the past trophies and ATK to ATKMB is just a rebrand just like previously they changed from Atletico de Kolkata to ATK.
  9. here is a post from ISL. it says stronger together.
  10. Now, here are some tweets/retweets links by ATKMB. its related to foundation day of MB, and Mohun bagan day. tweet, retweet, tweet, retweet. Coach also wished happy mohun bagan day. Although I think, its expected as MB has 20% shares in the merged club, ATKMB. ATK's birthday is on 7th March, so as of now, we dont whether ATKMB will celebrate ATK's birthday just like it did about MB.
  11. Recently, ATKMB started using the hashtag used by MB before (#JoyMB). Emotionally MB is retained but technically ATK has been retained. If we consider technically, ATK has been rebranded multiple times, check the Facebook page history. And it seems like another rebranding. Some articles also say MB has ended [2], [3].

So this was the overall summary of the situation. Now coming to the discussions happened in wikipedia related to this-

  1. Talk:ATK (football club)#Nname
  2. Talk:ATK Mohun Bagan FC
  3. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ATK–Mohun Bagan
  4. Talk:Mohun Bagan A.C.
  5. Talk:Mohun Bagan A.C./Archive 2
  6. Talk:Mohun Bagan A.C./Archive 2#Merge proposal (here, the discussion was closed abruptly, otherwise in all other discussions, no clear consensus achieved)

The problem is a lot of canvassing, meatpuppeting, sockpuppeting going on. And the accounts are rigging the discussions. The list of accounts which came up since the discussions started. They never showed up, and their first contribution was saying FOR mohunbagan. I know how this works. Anyone of them shares the link and screenshots all over the facebook fan groups and accounts come to canvass. Here is the list of accounts-

  1. Rajarshi Mondal 17
  2. Ztruc
  3. Aarul Chandekar
  4. Figuto
  5. NijerDomeISL
  6. Darkarmy241998
  7. M Kariyappa
  8. FootyMessi9147
  9. Figoitjodfj
  10. PratyushDas1999 (this guy is the most recent meat puppet)

Just check everyone's contributions, you will understand.

ArnabSaha, Thanks for putting all of this together. A few things:
  1. When posting on other people's pages, please try to do it all in one edit. You made some ten plus edits here...and I got a notification each time you did so...
  2. Okay, woweee, this is a hell of a discussion. I'll be honest: I haven't read all of the material, and I am not a sports fan...I know ball goes kick but not much else. However, I have skimmed what you've linked, and am not sure what is still at issue. The last serious merge proposal was closed as "merge". Do you think that close inappropriate? What still needs to happen here, in your view? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:31, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
    1. Sorry for the multiple notifications. I didn't know it notified separately. Also, it was big, so I wrote in parts.
    2. Yes, I think the last merge was inappropriate, as this is a consensus and not a debate, everyone's doubt should be cleared and come to an agreement. Which didn't happen there... It was closed abruptly.
    3. Please check the accounts I listed. ❯❯❯   S A H A 16:37, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ArnabSaha: I don't see how the close, dated August 31, is incorrect? What have I missed in it? Also, I looked at a few of the folks. I'm not going through all of them for you. Some haven't edited in months, so why dump them here? If you want admin action taken, you are better off putting a report on the specific editors, with diffs/evidence, and dropping a case at WP:ANI. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:51, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
On 30 August, I mentioned a point, which was overlooked. Also, most of the support votes were from brand new accounts.

I want to ask one more thing. Can I go for RfC? ❯❯❯   S A H A 17:00, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArnabSaha, I mean, yeah, points get overlooked in discussions sometimes. If you think the close was wrong, you could challenge it an WP:AN. What would you make an RfC about? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:13, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
As a note though, ideally you should talk to the closer before challenging it at AN. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:13, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I want to take the whole thing in RfC and discuss from the beginning. A discussion with the closer was started by ArsenalFan700 regarding that, but nothing happened actually (User talk:GenQuest#ATK Mohun Bagan). So, I want to start afresh. ❯❯❯   S A H A 17:25, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ArnabSaha, There was a rename discussion opened yesterday, that has already been closed. I don't see how opening another will solve anything. Perhaps you can clarify: do you want to rename the page, create a new page...what result do you want to see? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:38, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
the rename discussions were also rigged. I will go for creating a new page, since the whole thing is 50-50. ❯❯❯   S A H A 17:42, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ArnabSaha, I mean, if you think it was rigged, you could ask for a review of the close at AN. I don't know if you would succeed, probably not, but it is an option. In terms of creating a new page, I mean...you need to get consensus to reverse the merge. You could just recreate the page I guess, but it would likely just get deleted straight up. I fail to see how you would get consensus to undo the merge...not even a month after it was closed as merge. You would need to present some very good new evidence that the clubs are separate or deserve seperate pages. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:47, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
ya, obviously. I won't start a new page directly. I want to go for RfC/ARB for the reverse merge. My plan is 1st report the meatpuppets, then go for RfC/ARB. So, we have more opinions from regular/experienced editors. ❯❯❯   S A H A 18:24, 24 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

hallo...and ehats the difference if it was discussed on merge request link?! few users gave facts, abroad users closed it, nobody can recreate its own view here. like atkmb staff would care if saha or anyone keeps thinking "mb and subpage or 2 pages..." its been enough for long already, edit new topics!
