Amramp
[edit]Hi Matt, I received a message from you that my submission describing our company "Amramp" was considered advertising. I had this article written to objectively describe our unique product, the benefits it provides, and history behind the company. I completely understand and respect the fact that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. I do not wish to advertise our company. I only wish for our unique product to be described to those who may be interested in learning about Amramp or our special type of ramp. For instance, Coca Cola has a description on Wikipedia. Do you have any suggestions about how I could enhance this article to meet Wikipedia standards?
Please see article below.
Thanks for your help. Mark
Amramp Amramp, previously known as American Ramp Systems, manufactures and installs modular steel wheelchair ramps that can be rented or purchased by individuals, businesses, and organizations. The company provides free estimates and holds patents on its designs. Amramp is represented by 40 locally owned franchisees across the United States. Amramp’s headquarters are in South Boston, Massachusetts.
Operations Ramps can be purchased and installed at homes for residents who use wheelchairs. Amramp’s ramp systems may also be temporarily rented for home-use for special occasions to accommodate handicapped guests. Often institutions and organizations rent ramp systems for special events: Graduations 2008 Democratic National Convention Athletic events Tall ships and USS John F. Kennedy Weddings Republican National Convention Businesses, organizations, and institutions such as libraries and universities also purchase Amramp systems, installed by a professional, to comply with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements (link to article). With fully stocked locally based warehouses nationwide, Amramp installs most steel ramp systems generally within 24 to 48 hours, often – in time for someone who’s being released from a hospital or health care facility. Insurance administrator J Ouelette has ordered thousands of ramps for people’s homes nationwide. “We have patients with paraplegic, quadraplegic, and tetraplegic diagnoses,” Ouelette said. “To most people, it’s just a wheelchair ramp. But to these accident victims, it’s the difference between being home with their families and living at a rehabilitation facility or nursing home.” Specifications There is no minimum rental period or ramp size. Steel ramps are more affordable than wood or aluminum. Amramp’s ramps are made from recycled materials and are fully recyclable. Rental ramps are reusable. Ramp installation and extraction does not disturb habitats or properties. Installation often takes just a few hours. Ramp installations are often started within 48 hours of approval. Steel ramps generally do not require permits. The steel mesh surface of the ramp performs optimally year-round in any weather. The mesh material offsets moisture, eliminating ice, puddles, and moss. Ramps are flame-retardant. It has changed my life.” Quick facts and testimonials • “Amramp goes a long way, above and beyond pricing. If we can’t get the ramp placed for three weeks, we’re not doing the patient or the homeowner any good. Amramp helps make the patient the priority. We once needed a ramp that was over 100 feet; three of the independent franchisees worked together to get ramp installed in a timely fashion.” -- J. Ouelette Insurance administrator • “Amramp installed three modular ramps in one day. FEMA put in wooden ramps that rotted within one year, leaving people stranded inside their houses for fear of an accident while using the rotted ramps.” -- K. Blanchette, DeSoto County, Fla., case manager • Actor Christopher Reeves, who survived a house-riding accident as a quadriplegic, used ramps several times a year at speaking events around the country. • The US Navy used a ramp to allow handicapped former crewmembers to enter the John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier for a reunion.
Company & franchise information Franchise sales began in 2002; 40 franchisees cover 27 states across the US. Controlled growth in franchises is expected to continue, due to the rise of home health care and an aging populace. Chief Operations Officer Jim Norton plans to expand internationally. - Hi Mark. Thanks for your message. There are a couple issues with the page:
- It wasn't written objectively, and appeared to be an advert. This goes against our "What Wikipedia is not" policy. Examples of this are the testimonial and specification sections. Specification of products should be irrelevant to Wikipedia articles as the purpose shouldn't be to sell or describe an item in such manner.
- It didn't establish why the company is notable. Have they been featured in multiple independent and reliable sources (such as trade publications or newspapers, or equivalent websites)? Stating that the company does a lot for the community is (unfortunately) not sufficient – we must have a third party deem it relevant enough to cover.
- I hope you understand the issues here. Ultimately, our conflicts of interest guidelines states that "you should avoid or exercise great caution when editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with". Feel free to let me know if you need anything explaining further. Regards, matt (talk) 15:32, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Ernest Cook Trust
[edit]I am adding information which the Ernest Cook Trust has asked me to, on their behalf. The information comes from their website which we have helped them create. Can you explain how I can do this without it causing problems? Viva communications (talk) 15:25, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Ultimately, it's best if you don't add the information. As a PR company, you have a (presumably financial) interest in this business and there is a conflict of interest. Even if your intentions are good faith – which I wouldn't doubt for a second – we still may experience unavoidable WP:NPOV violations. Our conflict of interest guidelines states that "Where advancing outside interests are more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia, that editor stands in a conflict of interest [COI]" and that "COI editing is strongly discouraged". I would make the assumption that you wouldn't be writing the article if you didn't have a commercial link to the Ernest Cook Trust, which implies that outside interests are greater than improving Wikipedia.
- As for adding the information, we must assume that content from external websites (such as http://www.ernestcooktrust.org.uk/) cannot be used unless explicitly stated. Our donating copyrighted materials goes through how we can gain permission to use the content. In a nutshell, it states that you can only donate the material if "you are the copyright holder and the content is compatible with policies and guidelines". I hope this all makes sense and you understand our policies/guidelines – just let me know if theres anything else you'd like me to go through or help you with. Regards, matt (talk) 15:33, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- As I said on my talk page, I don't take quite the same stern view of COI and paid editing that some others do; I prefer to judge the result. In that spirit, I've made a few changes to the Fairford Park article that I believe make it now acceptable to wikipedia and avoids any charge of copyright violation.[1] But a word to the wise User:Viva communications–change your username to something less contentious asap. ;-) --Malleus Fatuorum 21:14, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
As you've chosen to ignore any alternative viewpoint that conflicts with your own, not uncommon amongst administrators, I would like to draw your attention to this article, largely written by a curator of the museum. --Malleus Fatuorum 21:16, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- I didn't realise I'd "chosen to ignore" any other points of view. I appreciate we may have different views on COI editing, but what's more to say? My posts to the user above outline our community guidelines, and how COIs can affect NPOV. As it is, the user is a blatant violation of WP:USERNAME. Their positive editing led to me giving them the benefit of the doubt (as Julian Colton had issued a soft warning/notice on their web page). You obviously take a similar view (as shown above).
- You needn't make such comments about administrators, however. (I appreciate you've had bad experiences at RfA but that's no reason to make such statements). The IWMN article you refer to is irrelevant – I've not said that no good can come out of (potential) COI editing. matt (talk) 21:45, 9 January 2010 (UTC)
- You continue to misunderstand. Fair enough. --Malleus Fatuorum 21:49, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Gunnar Peterson Page
[edit]Hello!
I was hoping you could point me in the right direction. I recently created my first wiki page. I see that you moved it to a page that only features his name. Since it was my first article, I was mimicking a style I'd seen other pages for where they had clarification in parenthesis - this edit doesn't cause me any concern. (happy to learn the wiki "best practice")
My problem/question is that after you moved the page - someone else came along and deleted it. Is this because of the move? Is this a vandal? Should I reload the page to just "Gunnar Peterson" as you originally moved it?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Here is the link to my original page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunnar_Peterson_(Personal_Trainer,_Fitness_Expert)
THANK YOU!

Hi Matt
if i am the owner of the site that the info comes from may it sit be used? —Preceding unsigned comment added by DSFZA (talk • contribs) 13:53, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! If you're the copyright owner, you can put steps in place use the content. To do this, you must be able to:
- a) prove you are the owner, and
- b) licence it for use
- Our donating copyrighted materials shows how this can be done. Remember, however, that the page was also deleted due to promotional content. To use the content, it would have to be re-worded to pass our neutral point of view policy. Please let me know if you need any further help. Regards, matt (talk) 14:13, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Hey Kid!
[edit]Hi Matt, i would like to know why you just deleted my page for Bolton band Hey Kid! ? It said because it wasn't relevant to a Band, Musician etc, but it was? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peanut792 (talk • contribs) 12:35, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! The reason I deleted it was that the article did not show why the band were notable. Our notability guidelines for bands states what qualifies a band for inclusion. Other ways of establishing notability are showing that the band have had third-party coverage – have they had reviews, interviews or other coverage in reliable sources? The existence of the band isn't contested – our policy is that just because a subject exists, that isn't sufficient to warrant an article. I hope you understand – let me know if you'd like me to explain anything or you need any other help. Regards, matt (talk) 12:40, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, yeah i understand. The band have had interviews and gigs, and im currently trying to find the articles on them that i know are floating about on the internet somewhere.
But yeah, no problem. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peanut792 (talk • contribs) 12:45, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
- Cool. If you let me know when you've found them (and where they are) I'd be more than happy to help and see whether it is suitable for Wikipedia. Cheers, matt (talk) 12:48, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Help with renaming account
[edit]Hi Matt, Thanks for pointing out my account name was a 'no go'. I hadn't realised that it would be a problem and was an honest mistake. Although I work for the publisher of these 'further reading' books, they are genuine and my posts are meant to be aiding readers. Only problem is, I can't change my username as I'm directed because my account is blocked and I'm unabel to edit the page where you request a username change, in order to add my request! Can you suggest how I might go about this? I want to change it to RhoslynS. I've just set this account up in order that I can write you this message, but I don't want to have to go and retype additions I made with the ACCPublishingGroup username. I'd really appreciate your help! Rhos —Preceding unsigned comment added by RhoslynS (talk • contribs) 13:33, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
- No probs. Although your edits aren't prohibited, you should make yourself aware of our conflict of interest guidelines. As long as your interest in improving Wikipedia is genuinely greater than your work for this publisher, there should not be an issue. In order to move your account (including your edits) to a new username, you should follow the steps at Wikipedia:Changing username. This process is different to signing up for a new account – make sure that you do not register your new username manually. Doing this may stop your edits being able to be re-attributed to your new account.
- Basically, think up a new username that complies with our username policy. Then check it doesn't exist by searching for it at Special:ListUsers. If there's no registered account under the name you want, then you're good to follow the process at WP:CHU#Instructions.
- Let me know if you need any help with the process – or anything else for that matter. As long as you remember that your edits should be to advance Wikipedia and not your company, I see no problems! Regards, matt (talk) 13:51, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

- It's generally best to add an article to Wikipedia when it meets the inclusion criteria. You can edit your article as a subpage to reduce the risk of deletion. As it stands, the article qualified for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#A7, and was deleted. matt (talk) 21:30, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

y did u delete my article? how do i make it again now without it being deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Duvatank (talk • contribs) 20:22, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- I deleted the article as it did not assert any notability (as outlined in our notability guidelines for organisations). Has the gang had multiple instances of reliable coverage? That is our basic level of notability. Unfortunately, purely existing isn't grounds for inclusion on Wikipedia – our threshold is being able to verify information through third-party, published sources. matt (talk) 20:54, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

and am i still able to make changes to it to make it acceptable to wiki?
thank you in advance. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jsze1 (talk • contribs) 17:08, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- Your are able to edit your article right now at Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Procedure Proficiency Software. It's in the "incubator", meaning that it's not quite ready for the encyclopaedia (but someone has decided it has potential). I deleted the Procedure Proficiency Software article in the main namespace (i.e. where articles go) because it had no content.
- If you wish to work on the page to get it to Wikipedia standards, you will need to provide multiple third-party reliable references to verify the information in the article. Currently, the link provided on the page does not mention "procedure proficiency software", and so does not count as an applicable source. You must take care to ensure that the article does not become an advert for 3D-JITT – it should be about procedure proficiency software in general. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Why did you keep deleting the Greek Myth of Tim Meyer
[edit]That story is totaly true man. its on a web site and everything —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.7.20.165 (talk) 16:15, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- No, it was a hoax. Tim Meyer didn't kill Hitler, free the slaves or find America – all things which were claimed by the article. Any articles we have on legends introduce them as such, whereas if Tim Meyer really was a legend, it was introduced as being fact. Either way it's not suitable for Wikipedia. matt (talk) 16:49, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Wiki party of Ukraine
[edit]Hi Matt, Please, explain why you deleted article "Wiki party of Ukraine"? This is a significant subject. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexa111 (talk • contribs) 17:09, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Alexa. I deleted the article under the A7 speedy deletion criteria. This was because the article didn't state why the group was notable. Unfortunately, purely being the first at something doesn't mean an article is notable – has the party been covered by reliable independent sources? The sources you provided aren't suitable, as one was the official page and another was a blog post (I couldn't verify whether it was reliably posted by a third-party). If you take a glance at our general notability guidelines, you'll see what it takes (at the absolute minimum) to establish and assert notability and, ideally, keep an article on Wikipedia.
- I hope this helps, and please let me know if you have any more questions. Regards, matt (talk) 17:47, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Hi Matt,
I was trying to make a page about a new rising star but i didn't have time to back myself up and had to leave it without anything and i realised you deleted it shortly after i created it, is there any advice you can give to make it qualify-able? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Catilina H (talk • contribs) 19:17, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! The reason I deleted it was that it did not indicate how the person was significant. Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball and so can't have information in that isn't verifiable through reliable sources. There are two ways this article can progress:
- You can relax and wait until this person is notable. Just because they may not warrant an article now, doesn't mean they wont in the future
- You can provide reliable, third-party sources to indicate that they have been deemed notable by someone else. This could be a review or interview, but a blog or official website isn't enough.
- I hope this explains why the article was deleted. You're welcome to work on it further, but I'd suggest reading our general notability guidelines to see what can be done (at minimum) to show that the person is notable. Please let me know if you need any further help. Regards, matt (talk) 19:43, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- This does, thanks, does Facebook groups and fan pages count?, there has been an interview should i add all content in? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Catilina H (talk • contribs) 19:48, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, those won't count under WP:SPS. The interview should have been undertaken by a professional body (see WP:RS). If you're able to show me a link I can tell you whether the interview would be suitable. matt (talk) 19:53, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- They aren't self-published they are made by a third party, who i won't give the name of, and many people have joined the group/fan page, it is also difficult to show much as he has only just started his career and doesn't really attract as much paparazzi or paparazzo as the current A-D list celebrities around as he would be classed as a Z List celebrity which do not attract either type of paps, however he has announced somethings on his official site and other sites that he has —Preceding unsigned comment added by Catilina H (talk • contribs) 20:11, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- If you could provide a link to a copy of the interview I can help you to see whether it is suitable or not. As group or fan numbers can't be verified (who's to say, for instance, that lots of the members of a group aren't duplicates or fake?), that can't be used to quantify notability (see WP:BIG). From my point of view, it looks like this person does not yet pass our notability guidelines. As I said previously, this is not permanent – especially if the interview shows so. Ultimately, you're best off reading our notability guidelines on musicians or entertainers to see whether you believe that this person warrants an article. matt (talk) 00:09, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
Please tell me why you have deleted our new page 'the diogenes club (band)'. We have created this page to inform people interested in our music about us and what we are up to. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Addinvite (talk • contribs) 12:27, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
- The article didn't explain why the band were notable enough to have an article (see WP:BAND). Our threshold for inclusion is higher than pure existence, unfortunately. matt (talk) 12:51, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

Sanguine (band)
[edit]Hi Matt
I've taken anything out that is not a fact statment and I have citated all the sources. Apart from this section (which was there originally on Wiki for a number of years!) which has been kept the same as the original:
"First conceived in 2002 by lead singer/songwriter Tarin Kerrey, Sanguine are a four piece, female fronted alternative metal band originating from Exeter in the UK.[1]
Sanguine’s music was never designed with one genre in mind, describing themselves as alt-metal purely because no other term seemed to fit, and their mix of sweet-innocent vocals and music coupled with stab-victim screams and grinding riffs certainly leads you to expect the unexpected. However, like any other music it's better heard than described, so download the free tracks and make up your own mind. If that’s not enough for you then Sanguine are also well know for their energetic shows, always committing every ounce of energy regardless of the venue.
This was reflected at their very first gig where the media said: “A truly mind-blowing…alternative rock/metal outfit who stormed through a sensational set…Sanguine are going to be huge there is no doubt about that, so check them out before they take off to the big time.” ([2])"
If you have any problems with the rest of the page then please highlight what you need and I'll get it done!
Many thanks,
Max —Preceding unsigned comment added by MDMetal (talk • contribs) 18:36, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Max. The main issue with the article now is that it looks like a CV. Ideally, it should be prose – using an example from Category:British alternative metal musical groups, see how the history section of the Skindred article details the band chronologically, not just listing when they've been covered in the press.
- The next step I'd suggest is, though, to find the exact sources for the quotes in the article – so issue numbers, authors and exacts dates would be ideal – URLs are even better. Remember that the article's purpose isn't to promote the band, so numerous references praising their live shows or album (or whatever) aren't necessary. Likewise, I'm sure someone's written a not-so-good review of something, which would help to balance the neutrality. If you're able to find some online references (MySpace is not a reliable source so shouldn't be used to verify information), I'd be more than happy to help you draft something. Regards, matt (talk) 15:14, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Matt, that's great! I'll have a look at Skindred and draft something together and send it over to you. I'm going to be out all weekend now so unlikely I'll get anything over to you until next week...Thanks for all your help! Murder of James Bulger/Thompson gay?
[edit]Hi Matt
That other Ip (special:Contributions/92.14.250.86) on the Murder of James Bulger talkpage seems to be soapboxing, he added a gay actor category to Stephen Boyd, which I removed, he has now replaced it. [2] --220.101.28.25 (talk) 11:24, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry to 'hassle' you again, didn't even know you were a Sysop when I contacted you. After you warned 92.14.250.86 they put the gay actor category back [DIFF], removed recent citation needed tags from Sean Connery [HERE] then moved on to Richard Wilson (Scottish actor) [HERE] which was restoring the only edit by user:Tedarmiger [HERE]. Strange. Coincidence?, ?? or ??. A bit of an edit going on war over Wilsons 'preferences'. Just FYI. :-) --220.101.28.25 (talk) 13:23, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've reverted the Richard Wilson article – I don't think the source given is reliable enough, and does not back up the statement that he is "openly gay". I see you've warned the IP for the WP:3RR on Stephen Boyd, so I'll leave that and keep an eye on it. The Sean Connery edit was semi-constructive (clarifying thousands "of pounds"). I've fixed this though, to restore the {{citation needed}} templates. matt (talk) 13:43, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Re: Protection of Talk:Murder of James Bulger
[edit]The talk page (as well as the article) were semi-protected to prevent further need to suppress edits; each of those usages of oversight you noticed were in response to the same information, a result of the recent events mentioned on the article. As much as I understand and agree with your concerns, I'd prefer the protection remain up for at least a week more to avoid the information being reposted again, for both BLP and legal reasons. It's possible we could set up an "unprotected talk page" like several admins have on their user talk pages, and either link or transclude it to the main talk page, but that's subject to the same problem, so we may as well just unprotect then. Why did you delete "The Resistance Website" page?
[edit]I am one of the creators, along with my friend vospader, of The Resistance (the-resistance.us). I am just wondering why you deleted this page. I think that there is probably a explanation. But I am making sure. We do not know who put the page on, so we are guessing that is why. The only reason why we were glad there was a page for this website is so that people can know why we do what we do. I know that you are on of the admins of Wiki, so I respect your idea. We may ask you to repost it if you allow that. From admins vospader and Jesus Freak of The Resistance(the-resistance.us). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.144.178.225 (talk) 21:10, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
- I deleted the article as it didn't explain why it was notable (see WP:WEB). Notability is often shown through using third party sources – such as a news feature from a reliable source. The fact that we don't know the identity of the original author does not affect the deletion. The article shouldn't be remade without complying with the WP:WEB guidelines. Remember that as members or admins of the website, you have a conflict of interest – and a duty to ensure that your edits on the topic are for the benefit of Wikipedia and not your website. Anything to the contrary is against our advertising policy. Regards, matt (talk) 19:32, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
Deleted Page
[edit]Hello! I just created a page about Bonnie Dune and I saw that you deleted it. If I may ask, what was was wrong it? Did I violate Wikipedia terms? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lmg13 (talk • contribs) 23:44, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hi – thanks for your message. The reason why the article was deleted was that it was about a band and didn't state why the band was notable. Notability is explained at WP:NOTABILITY – basically, you'll need some nice references in there – perhaps some reviews of the band, or an interview or something. Remember, however, that these must come from independent and reliable sources – MySpace, Facebook, Twitter etc. is not suitable. Feel free to ask me any more questions – if you'd like me to look over any material to use then let me know; I'd be more than happy to help. Regards, matt (talk) 12:14, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Newcastle Roller Girls
[edit]Hello, I tried to create this page earlier, with the information below:
The Newcastle Roller Girls are a team of skaters playing the modern day version of Roller Derby. They are based in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in the North East of England.
The team is made up of a Captain, Brie Larceny; Vice Captain, Rita Von Sleaze; and other team members who take on roles within the team of: Jammer, Pivot and Blocker. Newcastle Roller Girls are the largest team in the North East of England, and have been around since 2009, their first bout is in Edinburgh in April 2010, less than one year after forming.
Although they are an all female team, they are coached by Duk, a male skater, and have two male refs, Andrew and Alex.
They have a Facebook site, ad a website is currently being built, and are on the look out for new skaters, female and male.
Is it ok to put this information on without mentioning names?
Thank you, Karen Slater —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hideouskinki (talk • contribs) 12:13, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Karen. It's not really the names that is the issue. Unfortunately, the article didn't meet our notability guidelines. Take a look at our guidelines for articles on groups and sportspeople – these should give you an idea of what the article will need to include to keep it on Wikipedia. I hope this makes sense – generally speaking, an article is considered "notable" if the subject has been covered in third-party and reliable publications.
- Let me know if you need anything else explained – I'd be more than happy to help out any way I can. Regards, matt (talk) 12:18, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Matt - i've added a couple of our links to media coverage of our sport, will you let me know if this is sufficient?

- Karen – I've started off a stub at Newcastle Roller Girls. This should satisfy the basic entry-level of an article (it includes references, and is neutral). Neutrality is one of our core policies, so we can't advertise that the group are "on the look out for new skaters" etc. Feel free to edit the article – it would be good to mention the coach/refs' names, but we would need their full name (not just the nickname). Remember that, however, you have a conflict of interest with this article. This shouldn't be a problem provided you edit the article for the benefit of Wikipedia and not to promote NRG. Let me know if you need any more help – I'll keep a watch on the article to see if I can chip in (excuse my ignorance on the current state of the article – I know nothing about roller derby so feel free to fix anything that is glaringly innacurate!). - Hi. The reason I deleted it was that it didn't credibly say why the group was notable. Our page on notability guidelines for organisations explains what it takes to show notability – but basically it boils down to having coverage in reliable, third-party publications. Hope this explains everything – let me know if I need to clarify anything. Cheers, matt (talk) 11:04, 30 March 2010 (UTC)

- Ok – first things first – how many errors do you think there are? Remember this is a wiki – you're encouraged to make any corrections yourself. Secondly, it was the source that stated that the soda company is in Uganda – having looked it up I know you're correct, but remember that Wikipedia only publishes third-party information. If you want to correct any mistakes then feel free, otherwise please let me know what they are and I can see what I can do. Regards, matt (talk) 09:24, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
- Matt,
- My name is Trevor Heath.
- I'm happy to help fix this page and ensure it is accurate. I have edited pages for errors before with factual accurate information only to have those edits removed. You say Wiki only publishes third party information. Then how do I deal for example with the issue that I was there and witnessed the event or incident? Are you saying I have to publish the event elsewhere first?
- In any case back to this museum page. Your source, the blog of a history professor is indeed full of errors. He even writes about seeing locomotives in the museum that (a) In one case, 1315 does not exist anywhere, it was scrapped in 1996 (b) while it exists, 2409, is not in the museum and has not been there since December 2004....there are other errors on his page too.
- Let me know what you want to do. I'm just stating if I do the work. I don't want to see it undone.
- Thank you
- Trevor Heath

Help
[edit]Hi Matt,
Thanks for your help changing the tag for me. I am new here, and don't know how to use this.
I wanted to send a message to Denise, to answer to her question about the existence of CSV imports.
I just want to say that there is no such function either in MS Money, Quicken, GnuCash, etc.
They all recognize QIF but not CSV and many banks generate statements in CSV only.
How do I send her this reply? How do I keep the post from being deleted?
Thanks again Marcelo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcellovani (talk • contribs) 18:05, 6 April 2010 (UTC)

No this is not good. I don't have a problem with new articles on settlements but you;ve created them all with false data. Falling rain should have been blacklisted years ago. The population data is grossly inaccurate and the data is at least ten years out of date compiled in 1995 to 1996. Please stop using falling rain data. Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:32, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- If so, why has it not been blacklisted? matt (talk) 14:33, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- Please note the stipulation at Wikipedia:BOTPOL#Assisted editing guidelines: "Note that any large-scale semi-/automated article creation task requires a BRFA.". –xenotalk 14:33, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- No probs, I've turned off AWB for the time-being. matt (talk) 14:35, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
It is black list neglect that the site was not blacklisted long ago. The site does contain accurate coordinate data, that's about it. But trust me, User:Orderinchaos and User:Darwinek on this. The data is often seriously at fault. For instance a Tibetan town, Chinese government claims 35,000. Falling rain said "800 in a 7km radius". A coastal settlement in western Madagscar. Google earth claims 1 metre. Falling rain claims 360 metres. Honestly it is a dreadul source. I support you creating articles about settlements providing they are veriable, actually a few years back I proposed [{Fritzpollbot]] to start articles on every settlement in the world but was opposed by a lot of people in that they didn't contain reliable sources. I know that Kenyan government data on setltements is probably not widely available but please can you not use fallingrain. The coordinate data is the only accurate thing, given that it was compiled from the geodatabase. Another problem is that it often lists settlements which no longer exist or are tiny hamlets. I support what you are doing but only if you use accurate data and sources!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 14:43, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- I don't doubt you for a minute. Either way, I'd be skeptical of any population data from a developing country, regardless of the source! Are you saying it is sufficient for verifying coordinates, though? I'm happy to look further for population sources, but if the coordinate data is accurate then this would save a lot of time :) matt (talk) 14:51, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
Cool. The coordinates are generally accurate but I would use google earth or geo names database for that purpose. Falling rain should be ignored completely. If you could create the articles with accurate coordinates and try to find government sources I'd be the first to support you. Note though if you are mass creating using automation at a high level you'll need authorisation as Xeno said above. What I can do is find some reliable sources for you to create articles about settlements. We definately need an editor like you creating articles about African/Asian/Oceanian settlements but only if they don't contain falling rain references and false data!! First of all though a cleanup job will be need to rmeove the data form falling rain in these articles and all others. You'll often see it used to reference altitude data in Tanzanian articles etc which is known to be wrong. Most editors yourself included are unaware of just how wrong the data generally is. I can arrange for you to start articles on Benin settlements for example using sources like this. Just the data has to be known to be based on accurate sources and not guesses! In fatc you could finish my work on Arrondissements of Benin using the sources given and then lists and start the settlements within them using the above sources. Things like this OK? You could get away with using falling rain for coordinates only but don't say so when you create the article. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:03, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
- So what would you think is better – coordinates with a bad source, coordinates with no source (but still from FR), or no coordinates? Obviously a good source will trump, but I'm thinking of the short-term. matt (talk) 15:14, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
You'll find that coordinates in geo articles rarely need referencing. It is factual data like altitude and population that require reliable sources. So I think coordinates with no source would be better, providing they are verifiable. If it is easier for you to extract the coordinates from falling rain by all means do so but do not rely on it for anything elase, even naming conventions of places are often trasliterated wrongly. Are you aware of Maplandia world gazetteer? Have a browse by country and region/district. This lists settlements by province and districts which is good for compiling lists of places and its has the coordinates, I think it woul dbe better to compile settelements and coordinates from Maplandia but only if you use reliable sources for population and altitude data. Also you might find World Gazetteer useful for population data for the more obscure countries. See Thailand. Now click parent division say central and it lists loads of towns with data, many of which do not have articles on here. Where possible though solid government sources should really be used but I aware this is impossible for countries like Gabon etc at the moment. Dr. Blofeld White cat 15:17, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
I've made some comments on the bot proposal page and proposed to sort the Kenyan geography stub by province. I was wondering if I could create a list of countries/divisions that could be started and possible sources on you user page or a sub page. I have the full data of all the communes and villages in Senegal for instance using official sources not to mention sources for those mentioned above and a site called statoids for starting articles like [[Communes of Angola, Burundi, districts of Anguilla, counties of American Samoa, mukims of Brunei, some of the districts of Ghana, councils of Guyana, villages of Niue etc. If you are interested let me know as I feel there is a lot of work to be doing which can be done using reliable sources and done first time. Westfields Halt railway station
[edit]I've moved the article to Newbury West Fields Halt railway station. This is because the convention for closed stations is to use the name as at closure, as given in reliable sources such as Butt 1995. According to Butt, the name was always Newbury West Fields Halt; this is (almost) backed up by photos of the station, which show the name as "NEWBURY WEST FIELDS". I've also adjusted the five redirects that you created; normally, we wouldn't create that many - there'd be one for each previous name that the station had in its history, and always of the form "xxxx railway station". --Redrose64 (talk) 19:13, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

questions for you~
[edit]I am an old customer for IXBAY.COM. I have bought some gadgets from IXBAY.COM for few times. And I personaly think that it is a good company so that I want to recommend for other people. I would like to share good things with others. So I try to submit an article on Wikipedia. However, I failed. As a freshmen I really don't know how to edit the article that it would not be delete. Could you tell me how? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Linbackor (talk • contribs) 02:59, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- Hi. The original article (Ixbay) was written more like an advert than a neutral encyclopaedia article. The purpose of writing an article should be to provide educational content, not to "share good things". You're more than welcome to re-write the article, but I'd suggest you read through the content guidelines for advertising. You may also want to get familiar with the notability guidelines for organisations, so that you know what you'll need to add (such as references from reliable sources) to pass the notability guidelines. I hope this is enough for now – let me know if you need any more help! Regards, matt (talk) 09:34, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Matt
I'm trying to re-submit an article which was deleted in February, about a company called Style Compare.
I now have some more solid references to include, which I believe was the reason for the initial deletion.
Please can you advise the best way to go about this.
Many thanks.
P.S - I'd lost my login details, hence I'm using a new username. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raymond Smith 1983 (talk • contribs) 15:40, 5 July 2010 (UTC)
Raul Moat death
[edit]The source was included in both sections where it was entered, as well as being confirmed by BBC radio (even though it hadn't been put on the site yet), and now by the BBC site. Why did you remove the sourced material as not have reliable sources? --Fbifriday (talk) 02:27, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
- The BBC and Sky are still reporting Moat's death "from sources". This means it's not verifiable (I've not seen either source run the story without the "sources say" caveat). We're not in a rush to cover this, that's Wikinews's job. I suspect an official statement will be made soon, anyway. matt (talk) 02:31, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
DYK for George Shepherd (artist)
[edit]I made a boo boo. As you know, I am (hopefully?) assisting you in the review of Aldermaston. I check back regularly to document progress. I noticed that you had also created George Shepherd recently, which I thought would be ideal for nomination as a DYK, so I nominated the article.
After I nominated it, I realised the article would fail due to its length. I then took the liberty of expanding it as best as I could (trying to correct my error), managing to pad it out from 800 to 1800+ B, "readable prose size". I was sincere in my nomination and sincere in my efforts to correct my mistake. I really hope you do not take offence. Anyway, whatever happens, good luck with the DYK. sincerely: --Senra (talk) 13:58, 11 July 2010 (UTC)
- No probs! I'm very grateful for your help with Aldermaston, and I'll probably carry on with it later today. Since the start of the Peer Review, the article has grown by 20,000 bytes [9]. Thanks for your help! matt (talk) 10:10, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Ground plan of Aldermaston parish church
[edit]Thankyou for your recent edits to the ground plan of Aldermaston parish church ([File:AldermastonChurch plan.svg]). Peter Ditchfield was not the main editor of the Victoria County History. William Page (1861-1934) edited the series and Rev. Dr. Ditchfield was his Berkshire co-editor. I have amended the page accordingly.
I have changed the date of the image's first publication to 1923, which was when the VCH volume covering Aldermaston was published. If you have evidence of the image being published in 1911 as you stated, please add this to the page. Thankyou, Motacilla (talk) 00:32, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

The Perfect Crime (Band)
[edit]Hi, you deleted a page i recently made about my friends band. You were right in that parts of it were a hoax, but these were a momentary joke and were going to be replaced with the factually correct stuff! You took it down really quickly, and i appreciate why, but could you just send me the text or undelete the page because my friend (the singer of the band) really wants to see the hoax version, plus all the formatting and parts that were correct will have to be redone otherwise!
Much appreciated.

Mad Mick
[edit]Hi Mattgirling. Over at Michael Abram, the reason the sentence describing the source was there is because the source has been reverted in the past because of the funny source title. That sentence is just to help describe why the source is important. There has been similar sentences describing source in other articles. Now that you know why it was there, do you agree we should put it back in or do you have another suggestion? —Prhartcom (talk) 10:38, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- I've put it back in, but with slightly different wording – what are your thoughts? In an unrelated issue, what's your view on this violating WP:BLP1E? Regards, matt (talk) 10:46, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
- I like it, more neutral, that is an improvement! Your other point is a good question, but here is my take on it: Once I tried to add the description of the knife attack to the George Harrison article, but the editors there rightly pointed out the undue weight that would give. We did add more detail to that article, but added the full detail to the Abram article. Since the Abram article is linked to from a half-dozen other articles and is the only appropriate place for this detail, I think it is okay to remain. —Prhartcom (talk) 11:11, 28 July 2010 (UTC)
Pakistan air crash history
[edit]I wonder if you could have a look at this page? I tagged it as "unreferenced", before you deleted it as a copyvio. But somehow, the page history has got corrupted: the original page creator isn't shown, nor is your deletion, but my edit to add a tag is shown. As a result, another editor has now tagged the (empty) page for speedy deletion and has notified me as the page's "creator". It's not a problem, I'm just curious how such an odd state of affairs has arisen. regards Jimmy Pitt talk 15:48, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- The deletion log records me speedying it at 1529, with your unref tag two minutes later. I can only presume for some reason we hit edit at roughly the same time, but I deleted it before you tagged it and saved. Not quite sure why you didn't get an edit conflict or "page no longer exists" notice, though! matt (talk) 16:10, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, that makes sense. I think I read somewhere that when the system's a bit slow, two edits in very quick succession do sometimes slip through without an "edit conflict". Anyway, no harm done! Thanks for taking the time to look into it. Jimmy Pitt talk 18:34, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

- I don't doubt that it's true. However, it didn't meet our notability guidelines for musical groups. We have to have a threshold to decide what can and what can't be included – and that threshold is whether the subject (i.e. Vocalistix) has been the subject of multiple instances of media covarage (see WP:RS). Regards, matt (talk) 09:19, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- I swear to god it's true here is a link http://www.royalsouthstreet.com.au/results/contemporary_vocal_country_music/2010/august/7 and it is the last one 571 Contemporary Vocal Ensembles —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peopleofaustralia (talk • contribs) 09:23, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- As I said, I don't doubt that it's not true. But truth isn't what gets something into Wikipedia – it's verifiability that does. However, just because something exists doesn't mean it's worthy of inclusion – check out the notability criteria for musical groups to see what steps Vocalistix must satisfy to have an article. Cheers, matt (talk) 09:26, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- well is there any chance of telling the people about this group on wiki or not? and i have a person who is my instructor who was a famous singer does that count? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peopleofaustralia (talk • contribs) 09:29, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- There's every chance of having an article, if the group can satisfy just one of the notability criteria. One of the easiest ones is media coverage – has the group been the subject of any published works (interview, review, that sort of thing) that have been written by someone unconnected to the group? Unfortunately, being connected to someone famous isn't grounds for a stand-alone article (see WP:NOTINHERITED) but if there's a website that states that the group's instructor is famous then that may be sufficient to include the information in their article – but only briefly and without giving undue weight. I know this is a lot to take in, so please let me know if you need any help understanding anything! Regards, matt (talk) 09:35, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
hey how do i add a photo —Preceding unsigned comment added by Peopleofaustralia (talk • contribs) 10:37, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
- See WP:UPLOAD. I've just deleted another page you created (Natalie cursio). Please read through the notability guidelines again, as this was the same issue with the Vocalistix article. Simply aspiring to be something does not make someone notable. This isn't MySpace. Also, please remember to sign your edits on discussion pages by writing four tildes at the end (like this: ~~~~). Thank you matt (talk) 11:25, 10 August 2010 (UTC)
Bizz Radio Basingstoke Article
[edit]Hi Mattgirling; I recently published an article for information purposes about a soon to be launched online radio station which was deleted. Could you please advise me what criteria/necessary links the page needs to published. Thank you Matthewpaulrich (talk) 15:41, 11 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi. For the article to be included, it'll need to satisfy the notability guidelines. Simply put, the subject (i.e. Bizz Radio) needs to have been covered in third-party publications (such as a review in a newspaper, that sort of thing). That way we can use these publications as sources, while verifying the station's notability. In terms of sources, reprints of press-releases (or other advertorials) aren't sufficient. Apparently something was published in the Basingstoke Gazette last month – which would be fine as a source – but the web link is dead so I can't see whether it is a sufficient. Fair use rationale for File:Chattanooga_Choo_Choo_(gold_record).ogg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Chattanooga_Choo_Choo_(gold_record).ogg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 00:55, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of artist page Lost Dawn
[edit]I'm unsure why you deleted the page that I created for a band who interest me greatly and who have started to receive recognition within the musical world. A lot of time and effort went into creating an accurate account of the band, and I dont feel that any of the wiki terms have been violated. If you aren't prepared to take back your decision, then perhaps you would be so kind as to send me teh content of the page, so that when the band have aquired further recognition, I am able to re-submit with more detail and additional content
Velvet92 (talk) 18:11, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Velvet92. The reason why the page was deleted was that it didn't seem to say why the band are notable. There's a list at WP:BAND that outlines (generally) what a band should have done to qualify for an article. If the band do satisfy any of the items on the list, then you can add good-quality references (such as an interview, live review, that sort of thing) to verify the information. I've userfied the article – you can find it at User:Velvet92/Lost Dawn. This means you're able to work on it before making it live – there won't be the same risk of deletion. Thanks for the understanding, and please ask any questions if you have them – I'm here to help! Cheers, matt (talk) 18:24, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. This was my first Wiki entry, so I'd wanted to start with a small enough group. I wasn't aware of all the criteria, so I will keep working on the article until I feel that I have hit enough key requests for the article to be resubmitted.
Velvet92 (talk) 18:57, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
- No probs. Remember – the article only has to satisfy one of the criteria, not all of them! Cheers, matt (talk) 18:59, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

THE 60TH MISS UNIVERSE 2011
[edit]Hi, Mattgirling
It seems THE 60TH MISS UNIVERSE 2011 creates two Google results when searching for Eka Gurtskaya. Is it possible to delete the page? --John KB (talk) 13:23, 26 October 2010 (UTC)
- Hi John. I don't think that deleting the THE 60TH MISS UNIVERSE 2011 page would do much – it seems to be more affected by Google's cache of the article (when it wasn't a redirect). I'd imagine that next time Google crawls that page, it will be "dropped" from their listings in favour of the (correct) Miss Universe 2011 article. Either way, I don't think the duplicate listing will disappear from Google until something is done "their end". matt (talk) 14:14, 26 October 2010 (UTC)

This is the first of what will hopefully be a regular notice to help bring together the UK community so that you can be involved in some amazing things. To kick things off, there will be a UK community IRC meeting at 1800 UTC, December 7, 2010 to discuss the future growth and developement of Wikimedia UK. Without huge community support and involvement, the chapter cannot be successful and to get the most out of it, get involved.
For information on the community IRC meeting please go here
More to come about:
- Wikipedia 10th Anniversary Events
- 1st Annual UK Wiki-conference
- Trustee interest meeting - an event for those community members with even just a fleeting interest in becoming trustees of Wikimedia UK.
Many Thanks

Hi Mattgirling, I saw that you were the author of the article and that you added the coordinates to Kacheliba. I try to localize this village and according to a map from 1973 Kacheliba is rather at 1°28'N, not 1°48'N. Are there two Kachelibas or is this a typo? Maybe, we can clear this up. :) Best wishes --Pharaoh han (talk) 19:44, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- The original info was taken from a database with some iffy figures, so I suspect that there is just one settlement called Kacheliba in the area. I've updated the article (with reference); the reference should be general enough to reuse for any data taken from the map. Thanks for the heads up! Cheers, matt (talk) 20:52, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of My Old Dutch (song), and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.victorianweb.org/mt/musichall/olddutch1.html.
It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.
If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) Good Garage Scheme (Forte)
[edit]I found your name at this category. For the Good Garage Scheme article, would you please take a photo of The Good Garage Scheme, 4 Parbrook Close, Coventry, CV4 9XY and add it to the article. Also, if you could take a snappy or two of two or garges near you listed at GGS that includes the Good Garage Scheme mark/sign/(?) posted in those garages and place those photos in the article, that would be swell. Thanks. --
- I'm afraid I'm not currently in the West Midlands so can't do requests at the moment (when I can take photos they're around the Birmingham area rather than towards Coventry). Have you tried looking on Geograph for any locations? The photos there are CC-by-sa (like Wikimedia Commons) so we're able to use them in our articles. matt (talk) 23:16, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
DYK for My Old Dutch
[edit]On 13 December 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article My Old Dutch, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Charles Ingle, who composed the music for "My Old Dutch" (1899 sample right), gained his pseudonym during a "spirit of waggery"? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Yuki Damon
[edit]I'm still working on the Yuki_Damon page, linking all references and adding photo's. why did you delete the page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Botoxbotox (talk • contribs) 12:06, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- I deleted the page as there was no assertion that the subject was notable. Articles on people should clearly state why they are notable, and back this up with reliable sources. The basic requirement to avoid speedy deletion is the assertion of notability (i.e. saying why the subject is notable) rather than proving notability (i.e. including sources). You're welcome to let me know why Yuki Damon is notable, and I'd be glad to help you write the article if it fits in with our guidelines. Regards, matt (talk) 12:23, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- As the article has been repeatedly recreated without discussion (or addressing) of the issues raised by me and other editors, I have deleted the page and protected its recreation. This is so we're able to discuss the subject of the article. I'm more than happy to help, so please let me know what you want to include in the article and what you want to acheive by creating it. If you object to the deletion, I suggest you discuss it with me first before trying to recreate the page, or you're welcome to ask for a deletion review. Regards, matt (talk) 13:47, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
