This is a list of cities in the mainland of the People's Republic of China (PRC).
Civic structure of cities in mainland China
According to administrative divisions of the People's Republic of China, there are three level of cities, namely municipalities, prefecture-level cities, and county-level cities. The special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau are not within of this system.
Sub-provincial cities are prefecture-level, and Sub-prefecture-level cities are county-level, but given higher degree of power than cities of the same level.
