Cirex

Hi Moderator:

There are a couple of references, the magazines are the only one that I found online version of it, one of them is not still running, only online not printed.. but thr article is there. I know International Movie Data Base is not reliable but you can checkout even in the film itself appear Cirex name at the end of the credits. There are chances fir this artist to be on Wikipedia? is because Wikipedia is very respectful source of information, and tels more than his website itself. Thanks for your cooperation,

Mroxidizer1 (talk) 01:59, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out to me. I'd go ahead and say to just, quite simply, include all the references that you can per theWP:REF policies. If you include enough... even IMDB, sure. (make sure it's not the only one, though!). I would make sure Cirex is notable (WP:Notability), just write the article, cite as many sources as you can, then just let me know here when you write it and I'll take a look if you'd like. Enjoy, and thanks for editing Wikipedia! Theopolisme TALK10:19, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Moderator thanks a lot for your assistance. Thia he draft of the article:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Cirex

you can checkout by yourself nad let me know please if the artist is notable for Wikipedia. Is notable in Puerto Rico, but not in the States yet. There are the references, even his music appear on two movies including "Taken". That's all the the references i found on him, I guess are quiet good ones. Thank you for your assistance, Regards Mroxidizer1 (talk) 10:36, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, happy to. Looking good - great how you have sources and everything in there. Thanks TheopolismeTALK10:38, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that you have signed up at the CVU Academy and I would be delighted to be your instructor. If you would like to persue, please let me know at my talk page. We'll then begin work! MrLittleIrish (talk)© 15:05, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I just had a quick look through your recent reverts and you seem to be getting the grasp of policies absolutely fine. What I'm going to do is monitor your edits every now and again to check how you are doing with your reverts and drop you some feedback when I next check. For now, I would keep on going, get a good number more reverts done and then apply for rollback again. If you have any questions in regards to counter vandalism, let me know, and I'll help you out where I can.

Thanks

Hi, little question for you.... Do you know of any Mac (Apple, whatever you want to call it) Wikipedia anti-vandalism software? So far, all I've seen has been PC Based... Theopolisme TALK22:23, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
WP:TW is useful, but it isn't just an anti-vandal tool. I use it too. WP:IGLOO is still in alpha testing, that's even before beta, but it's okay (Huggle is better, but that's only for PCs). I do not use it. I've never used Stiki eitherWikipedia:STiki. It is again not a main reverting tool, and has less than a million reverts. Hope that helps, PC's FTW!Dan653 (talk) 23:47, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Haha! :) Yep, I've been using Twinkle.... But Igloo looks interesting -- I might give it a look at some point. But so far just the Twinkle tools and then a manual edit here and there suffice. While on the subject of questions, I have another... Do you know of any other pages that I can look at to see latest revisions to Wikipedia - right now, I just constantly check the User Contributions page with the parameters "New Users, Article, Latest Revision"... but are there other places I should be looking? Namely, one that will show me IP edits? Thanks so much - Theopolisme TALK23:53, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No content speedy deletion

Hey, I noticed that you've tagged C.H.B for speedy deletion under A3. Although I agree that in the present state the article has no real content, it may be better to wait at least a few minutes before tagging it, to allow the creator time to flesh it out, as it may not have been created in its finished form. Ducknish(talk) 01:51, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How long would you say is a good time to wait? Just curious. Thanks - TheopolismeTALK01:59, 29 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to 16PF Questionnaire

Hello Theopolisme

Thanks for the care you've shown in protecting the 16PF questionnaire page. I made two edits - so I'm not sure which one you didn't agree with. These are the reasons for the edits:

"35 languages" - the 16PF has officially been translated into more than 25 - there may be more, but those will be unofficial copies and therefore are not official 16PF questionnaires

"the 16PF questionnaire has not replicated" - yes it has - there are referenced pieces of research in the existing article that show that it has - hence why this statement is incorrect and contradicts other things in this article. As such this removal does not require additional citations.

How do we progress from here please? Naturally, I would like these changes to be made as they are factual. As the article currently stands, it is misleading.

Thanks and best regards

16PF Expert — Preceding unsigned comment added by 16PF expert (talkcontribs) 08:54, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out! Wikipedia, per its policies, requires content to be sourced... when you changed the number to 25 and added some information, it may have been completely valid and factual, but it was not sourced... so we have no way of proving its validity. If you can find an official source (such as a book, journal, or reputable website) that backs your claim, you can add it as a reference to your statements (and also add your statements back), using the tips located atWikipedia:References#Footnotes. Alternatively, if you can give me that information, I'd happy to re-add your material, along with a citation, to the article. Thanks again! TheopolismeTALK09:02, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Theopolisme

World Dog Show

question 1 - is it ok to delete broken links and/or URL's that do not seem to exist anymore without notifying the original editor(s) or leaving messages ?

question 2 - part of the data that I added (like some of the entry numbers) comes from a variety of printed sources that you can probably only find at fleamarkets, if at all; is it really necessary to add a reference for every detail ? If so, the references will easily/grossly outnumber the actual listings.

Alexandra Dumas (talk) 15:08, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out! In answer to question 1, it is usually better NOT to delete dead links, instead, tag them withTemplate:Dead_link -- I don't usually notify the original contributor,, but if you feel the need to, more power to you--there's no right or wrong about notification of dead links. In answer to question 2 -- this is a bit iffy. It's actually rather debatable -- see Wikipedia:Help_desk/Archives/2008_November_5#Over-referencing, then take a look atWikipedia:You_don't_need_to_cite_that_the_sky_is_blue - again, this is a case by case basis - do you have a link to the article in question, by any chance? Theopolisme,
Allow me to be a little incensed and put on my teacher's hat for a minute.  It is somewhat easy to confuse Japanese and Chinese, Japanese has borrowed many character from Chinese known as Kanji, but they also use Kana characters which Chinese does not.  Don't trust Google translate much on Asian languages.  You can always poke around at AfC, someone there speaks almost everything.  Taiwan is formally know as the Republic of China(ROC) as opposed to Peoples Republic of China(PRC) or mainland China.  Taiwan writes in Traditional Chinese characters and the PRC uses Simplified Chinese characters.  I will try to talk my Taiwanese partner into doing something with that article if he is bored today, I have gathered some cites for it.
Rant is over.. :-)
Be careful classifying articles as B, very very few really deserve it, especially right out of AfC.  Welcome on board and thanks for your help.  :- ) Don00:00, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. When Uploading the cove of a music album or single, what should I do if I'm not sure who the author of the said cover is? Since in most cases the creator of the cover is a different artist than the musician. Should I assume it's the musician or the label or do I have to find out the artist's name?

Question

I have a problem with Keanu Reeves' Wiki page. He never actually said that he was an atheist, yet it is posted thathe is with two bogus "references". Please change it, it's not accurate. Besides, the two "references" didn't state that he said that he was an atheist.

Thanks for getting in touch! I took a look at the page and at the two references next to that statement (23,24). It seems like both of the references actually do state that Reeves was an atheist - "He reportedly has called himself an atheist", "Hollywood movie star Keanu Reeves said the making of supernatural thriller Constantine has not changed his beliefs about religion but admitted he was now less sceptical about heaven and hell.", and the title, "Keanu 'still an atheist'". If you can find references that state that he is not an atheist, please let me know - I'll then be happy to remove said statements. .. One minor P.S., don't forget to sign your talk page comments with 4 tildes (~~~~). :) Theopolisme TALK16:45, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The websites state that he is an atheist. Keanu Reeves himself didn't say he was an atheist. He said he really wasn't raised in a particular religion. He didn't say that he didn't believe in God. So those references aren't really accurate.

Also, there is a Keanu Reeves biography by Sheila Johnston that is very accurate and states that he is spiritual, and his mother would practice whatever religion her lovers/husbands were at the time. I just find it very annoying when people post things that the celebrity didn't say himself and take it as the truth just because some stupid website says so. I know nowadays it's not hip or "PC" to believe in God, I'm not religious or anything, but I do believe in God, I was raised Catholic and I am proud of it. I don't have anything against people who don't believe in God, I just don't like people slandering. It's false statements like this that make this website about as accurate as Star/Enquirer magazines.

Thanks. Lo_lee_ta_81

Hi, and thanks again for getting in touch with me. I strongly suggest that you post your comments on the talk page of Keanu Reeves' article, where others can see your thoughts and, if a general consensus is reached, the material that you find objectionable can be removed. thanks for the warm welcome

My main interest is war economics and history and on editing Debate over the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki I got into a fight with Binksternet. I admit the topic is controversial. Thus all statements have to have a strong source. The quotation of Tsuyoshi Hasegawa is fraud (note 9) and taken out of context. The quotation of International Review of the Red Cross, No. 323,is fraud and taken out of context. As stated on Binksternet talk page. Foresee a war of edit-undo, but I am stubborn - as long as I can deliver primary sources. Winston Churchill's quotation has to go out (and so does my comments). It's a POV, not based on any evidence to support it. --Robertmossing (talk) 17:20, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for reaching out. I took a look at the page history and it seems that you and User:Binksternet have been having a rather heated dispute - this actually is against the Wikipedia edit-warring policy, which states, "an editor must not perform more than three reverts, in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material, on a single page within a 24-hour period," also known as the three revert rule. I suggest you take a look at that information, and then talk to Binksternet calmly and try to work something out - if no consensus is reached, you two both may end up getting banned.. And that wouldn't be very enjoyable! I actually requested that Debate over the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki be given Page Protection, which will prevent you both from editing - which should cause you two to discuss these issues.. Let me know if I can ever be of any more assistance to you, and as always, thanks for being a contributor! :) Theopolisme TALK 17:29, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

good idea. It s a controversial topic. I hope it gets attention from people who either knows something OR is LESS emotionally involved and therefore can better evaluate the validity of the sources. The day of 'anniversary' is coming soon and a lot of pupils may 'click' on the article. So I want the article to be without bias and with sources for the pupils to investigate on their own. 'Ceasefire' may be a good temporary solution to our fight :)--Robertmossing (talk) 18:08, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined (Update: declined in error, actually accepted): Just Dance Wii 2

Hello Theopolisme. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Just Dance Wii 2, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: not a hoax - presumably the same as this:http://www.amazon.co.uk/UBI-Soft-Just-Dance-Wii/dp/B003U6Y27S. Thank you. SmartSE(talk) 21:36, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. I saw the same Amazon page as well, and all seemed fine... Until it appeared that the track listing on the page in question was completely incorrect, and that the correct information was already located on Just Dance 2, except it was correct - there were no similarities between track lists, and I couldn't find any track list matching the one on Just Dance Wii 2, leading me to think that it was simply a hoax. Plese just take a second look and let me know! Thanks. Theopolisme TALK 21:46, 5 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Query

Hello theop, my question is:is there any point in staying engaged on a page where an editor erased everything I and others, with advanced degrees, balanced emotional lives, and familiarity with subject, invested time and expertise over the years. I did put this on his talk page. Hello David, I started out reading a nice description of my alma mater, Saint Louise de Marillace High School, and followed the invitation to add to the stump. I am a copy editor and writer, so I fixed grammar and punctuation, and added some other facts. The entire post that had been there, and my contributions, have been withdrawn. So, teach me. What was wrong that everything has been revoked, removed? I have registered. I want to help. This has me really frustrated. Thank you.64.255.111.50 (talk) 16:23, 5 June 2012 (UTC) Laura Coyne —Precedingunsigned comment added by Laura coyne (talkcontribs)

Hey, thanks for getting in touch! I'm not sure I exactly understand your question - if my answer doesn't satisfy, feel free to post another message. But...Don't quit. Don't stop... believing, hold on to that feeling... Streetlights, people... Honestly, we need you. We, Wikipedia, we, the world. Because if this one article doesn't work out... it doesn't matter. It honestly doesn't. And when you reached out to David, that was the right think to do - ask!Be Bold. Because Wikipedians like to help - hey, donating their time to edit a free encyclopedia sure is something - and when you ask them a question, it shows that you are involved... that you care. For all we know, in 10 years, you could be Wikipedia Contributor #1. We don't know... but as they say, "The future's what you make of it." And while this may not be your "real life future," it's the future of the encyclopedia! So read up on some of the Wikipedia core policies (take a look atthis page for some great tips!), and you'll get the hang of it. So, yes, stay engaged! Talk to the person who reverted your edits, find out what you did wrong -- cause we need you. We really do. :)Theopolisme TALK 03:19, 6 June 2012 (UTC) (Let me know if you ever need anything else!)[reply]

how to obtain license for my work...

hi, thanks for your info,, i wanted to add and edit some logo/seal in my country, i am reproducing it using corel draw.

1. how can i obtain license for my works, considering that it was my own work.

2. what size should i upload?

Okay, not sure I know exactly what you're asking me... "license for my work".... do you mean, how to license it so that anyone else can use it? Or something else? If so, you can choose that setting when you upload it to the Commons. And then, for size: Corel Draw is a vector program, which means it creates images that can be scaled up to any size with losing any quality, while maintaining a relatively small file size. Check out this PDF for information on how to do that. Let me know if you need anything else! :D TheopolismeTALK16:42, 7 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks ans sorry for the caps!

Hello Theopolisme,

Thanks for your help with "Rudy Buttignol". I am terribly sorry about the caps in my editing notes. I did them for myself, forgetting that kind people like you also read them.

I am having trouble inserting a correct citation after the "nine Gemini Awards". (I'm afraid to leave this page now for fear of losing it if I go back into the document.) After the "nine Gemini awards" there is an http citation from imbe that ends in "...nm0125372". To get the awards to come up first time around, "/awards" has to be added to the end = "...nm0125372/awards". I tried to add it but it didn't work.

I wish that I was better at Wikipedia. I am trying so hard!

Help needed to clear the Feedback Dashboard queue

Hi Theopolisme, a project has been constructed and Maryana (WMF) was wondering if you'd be able to help out with a research project her colleagues are running on the effects of MoodBar/Feedback Dashboard. They're trying to see if getting a response to MoodBar feedback helps newbies edit more – but to do that, they need to (temporarily) raise the level of responses to as close to 100% as possible. (Don't worry; it's only a week-long test.) If you could help me and her spread the word among the other FD top responders you know to help us clear the backlog by June 19th, that would be awesome! More details about this test are on this page on Meta. Let her know if you have any questions and feel free to get in touch with other FD leaders about this if you want :)

Little question, if you have a chance... why do the numbers of the top responders drastically decrease (ie, for me, from 70 --> 20) after every few days? Just curious. TheopolismeTALK04:27, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The numbers have most likely decreased because of responders getting bored of telling users the same thing over and over again. It also could be because there are many responders who are currently in school and have exams. We don't know exactly but this project should be able help clear up questions too.
Cheers,

Hrm, not like that exactly... but the raw number of responses listed in the sidebar fluctuates a bunch every day. Example: I made 70 responses, it displayed that in the sidebar the next day, the day after that it said 20. Is that # of responses daily or something? That would make sense I guess.. yeah, that actually makes a lot of sense. (Brain Smack) I dunno... Just wondering.Theopolisme TALK 16:36, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Rudy Buttignol

Good morning, Theo. Many thanks for the very helpful message that you sent to me yesterday. "Rudy Buttignol" is my first attempt at Wikipedia. I think that I started about a week ago. It takes me a long time to do anything and to navigate my way around. I have started this new message here because I was unable to find your message from yesterday, June 11th.

In your June 11th message, you made 2 main points:

1) To "write in chronological order rather than resume multiple section style". Thanks for removing the "Awards" section heading and I can see how the article looks better.

2)To use only reliable sources such as those in newspapers and books.

I think that I am confused about when to use an external link [[ ]] and when to use a reference [1].

The difficulty that I am having with using newspaper references that are not http is that I find the appropriate links and the entire article about Rudy Buttignol through Google, and then when I go to the newspaper can't get all of the information, especially the page #. I contact the newspaper for that info and then hear nothing. Are links to online newspaper articles not good sources to use on Wikipedia?

Also, regarding Rudy Buttignol's volunteer service to organizations such as the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television and the Canadian Cultural Review Board, I do not know how else to verify that he sits on these boards without linking to the section in the appropriate website. Is this correct for Wikipedia?

I really appreciate the rigour that Wikipedia supports regarding sources and for all of the help that you have given me. And I do want to present the best possible Wikipedia submission for Rudy Buttignol.

Thanks for writing back when you can.

Okay, I'm going to try to answer your questions to the best of my ability... External Links are actually listed at the end of the article (in an aptly named "External Links" section... this is the place for links to, for example, an IMDB profile or their business profile on a website. /// As far as "reliable sources such as those in newspapers and books", that's not necessarily true - you can also use websites and such (if they're of reputable places)... so, for newspaper references, you can use the HTTP. Just be sure to also include info like the author, etc... see this page for info on what you should include, and note that page numbers are 100% optional. /// For the volunteer service, feel free to just link to the appropriate websites... you're exactly right! Thanks for getting in touch, and let me know if this answers your questions! (Also, a side note, I really appreciate your grammar/capitalization/punctuation etc.. so many editors just don't, and it's quite an ease on my eyes when people like you do! :) TheopolismeTALK16:54, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Your Poke

I'm sorry Theopolisme. Now is not a good time for the CVU instruction; I am a tad bit too busy in real life to be honest. But hopefully when my school closes for summer (around 28 June), then we can start. Here IB is totally killing me with all these deadlines; First a test is announced, then the next day submit an assignment, then the next day, another assignment and so on and so forth. Hopefully, the pain will all be over on June 28 (but next year, is my final year of International Baccalaureate, and It's gonna be hell D: ), but since summer is only a 2-month break, we'd get lots done during that period from June 28 to August 20. I wanted to let you know that in 4 more days, the MoodBar will be temporarily disabled, so you won't see any new feedback coming in for a little while. This is just to get a sample of users to compare to the ones who could give feedback and get responses from you – it'll be back soon. So get all of your responding in now, because you might have to go through a bit of Feedback Dashboard withdrawal next week :) Thanks again, and keep up the great work! Thanks! I'll be doing a bunch more tonight. :) Theopolisme TALK 20:16, 14 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

John Grisham

I just finished reading The Litigators and now i'm reading The Confession, but i've read some of his older books too, like The Pelican Brief and A Time to Kill, to name a few. Dan653 (talk) 00:00, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cool! I absolutely LOVED A Painted House - read that one? Theopolisme TALK 02:54, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
No, but I've heard of it. Could you be my helper as I'm editing in my iPod again? Remove the graduate template from katana as he is back. Tell him to reapply on the enroll page as that's only fair to the other enrolleees. Also add the backlog template to the page. Thanks, Dan653 (talk) 03:05, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You and your iPod... :P Nonetheless, doneanddone! Hmmm..... is a new official title for me'self (suuttthhhhrrrrnnnn) in order? Dan653's official assistant? XD Theopolisme TALK 03:16, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, boss. /// Ah yes, the laptop smuggler... not like I would ever do anything like that (cough cough).Theopolisme TALK 15:32, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback Dashboard update

Hello, Theopolisme. New feedback should slow down and then stop in the next couple of days – the researchers temporarily turned off the MoodBar for people registering right now, in order to get a control sample for their test – so you'll have time to catch up. It will be turned on again on the 29th. I just hope you don't get too bored next week without feedback! Maybe visit the Teahouse?

Cheers,

More Questions

Hello, Theo.

I think that I am making some progress with the article on Rudy Buttignol. Today I made many mistakes but learned from them.

I really appreciate the sign at the top of Rudy Buttignol stating that it is under construction/revision. That is truly what is happening and I need time to work on it. I hope that it can stay on for another week or so. Can you do that?

I have 2 main questions at this point, if you wouldn't mind helping me:

(1) I can't find the sequencing for a newspaper reference. Is this correct?:

e.g. Steel, Judy (May 21, 1982). "The big shakers at the corp". Globe & Mail, P. 10.

I am used to APA format where every period and comma and space matters.

Somewhere I say that the publication name needs to go first and started to change everything but then stopped to ask you.

(2) I have some newspaper references that I have marked with [2]

They also can be found as an http so I have used ... with those right after the ref so that readers can just click into the article and read it on the spot. Is this correct?

Many thanks,

Sofiabrampton

Sofiabrampton (talk) 01:33, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As always, thanks for asking! In reply... 1) When referencing 'anything' on Wikipedia, it is VERY helpful to use the templates listed here. For example, {{cite news}} seems to be what you're looking for. This way, you just use the template, enter the correct parameters where they belong (ex. author, page, etc), and then the template will automatically generate the reference in the correct format. In reply to 2).... just use the format I gave above, as it will have a space for you to input a url and will automatically generate a link. Let me know if this doesn't make sense! :) Theopolisme TALK 14:26, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Anthroponymy

Would you please take a look at my comments at User talk:D'oh2 and User talk:INeverCry60? You seem to know about the subject and I'm finding these new accounts (evidently from their first edits not new users) are making edits that I find confusing - linking to articles not about surnames, not providing reliable sources, etc. I see no reason for surname articles not to be sourced as well as any other articles, although INeverCry60 thinks differently given his edit summary " relationship is clear, obvious, no need to explain". Thanks. Dougweller (talk) 08:09, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you - everything deserves reliable sources. I took a look at their edits, your messages to them, etc, and you seem to be saying all the same things I would. What would you like me to do? Theopolisme TALK 14:26, 16 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fantastic, we're glad to have you here! Rollback

Hi! We now have an instructor who is also a sysop, so now we just ask ItsZippy on his talk page to grant the user rollback.Electriccatfish2 (talk) 00:06, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Rollback from TruPepitoM

Thanks for the message; I'll take a look at the user's contributions now. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 17:25, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Right, I've had a look. I am impressed, but I'm not quite ready to give rollback in this instance. I notice that, apart from a few earlier this week, TruPepitoM has not reverted any vandalism since the beginning of this month; thus, while I am sure he has learned in this period, I have to go on that evidence. Here, he reverted vandalism to a version of the page which was itself vandalised (perhaps an opportunity for a lesson here). Additionally, I found three [1] examples of good faith edits marked as vandalism. This isn't a serious problem; I am sure that TruPepitoM will be ready for rollback soon. My advise would be to briefly look over those examples with him, and then give him a week or two to get as much experience as possible with vandalism patrolling. Come back to me after about a week and 50 good vandalism reverts from him, and I'll have another look. Hope that's ok. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 17:44, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oh my gosh.. Sorry about that. I thought I was being all productive by making the message for you and everything ahead of time.. But oops! I did NOT mean to send that to you yet...yea, TruPepitoM is actually inactive right now as well. Again, sorry for wasting your time on this. Will double check that I send it only when I mean to send it next time. (blush)Theopolisme TALK 17:52, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, oh dear! Don't worry - if that's the worst mistake you ever make, you'll do well. :) Glad to see you doing so well, and getting on well with him - you're doing a great job. ItsZippy (talkcontributions) 17:57, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Confused about deleting my edit and vandalism warning

Hello Theopolisme,

I'm not clear on what it is that you consider vandalism. Would you be so kind as to explain?

Thank you,

NewtonGeek — Preceding unsigned comment added byNewtonGeek (talkcontribs) 14:29, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, NewtonGeek - sorry! It was a mistake, and if you saw, I promptly reverted my edits. Thanks for reaching out!Theopolisme TALK 14:34, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Theopolisme,
Thanks for correcting your mistake. Thanks for your apology. I'd still like to know what caused you to make such a mistake. What led you to that page and my edit? What caused you to change your mind?
Thanks,
NewtonGeek NewtonGeek (talk) 14:40, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, sure. You're welcome! :) /// I use a program called STiki to find vandalism on Wikipedia. The program actually tagged your edit as vandalism (presumably because it didn't realize that you were adding signatures to a talk page- it rather thought that you were signing in the main article space, which is a definite no-no) and I, not seeing the title of the page and only seeing long blocks of text interrupted by a sudden user signature, reverted without thinking (I've been on a Wiki-craze for the past several hours) - a few seconds later though, I suddenly thought to myself... wait a second, 'what'did I revert?! I went back to my contributions log, saw my error, and presto-chango, reverted back to your not-at-all vandalistic edit. Are you at all interested in counter vandal work? Theopolisme TALK 14:52, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know anything about counter-vandalism work. I don't have much time for Wikipedia volunteering. If you are interested, I'd be willing to listen about the work and think over if it's something I'd enjoy or be good at.
Thanks for your normal explanation of how that transpired. That was helpful. NewtonGeek (talk) 15:01, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Always glad to take a break and talk! If you're interested - and I'll admit I have a slight conflict of interest as I am an instructor and deputy coordinator over there - take a look at the Counter Vandalism Unit Academy! I'd be happy to be your instructor if that's something you're interested in. Just let me know. Theopolisme TALK 15:07, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is on my watchlist. I have thirteen pages on it. I'm not sure if there's some way of me checking what that list is. I'll ask somewhere when I have time.
Yours is not a bad conflict of interests to have and you're honest about it. I may look over that link sometime when I have time. Thanks for the information and the invitation. NewtonGeek (talk) 15:15, 28 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To view your watchlist, go to Special:Watchlist. Sounds good! Message me whenever... always good to take a break.Theopolisme TALK 15:17, 28 June 2012 (UTC) [reply]

Hi Guys,
Excuse my butting in to the conversation with two random, probably irrelevant, points:
  • The edit that started this was actually done with WP:GLOO not WP:STiki. STiki only looks in article space... maybe that is related to the confusion.
  • NewtonGeek, to go to Special:Watchlist you just click on "my watchlist" in the top-right corner. While there, you can click on "view and edit watchlist" to see a list of the articles listed... if that isn't a weird way to put it.
Yaris678 (talk) 18:01, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How very true, Yaris678. This was the one edit I did with Igloo, I believe -- I'm working on the tools page for the CVU and was testing out a TON of anti-vandal tools. Thanks for catching that.... irrelevant point. :D Theopolisme TALK 18:04, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
