Welcome

Please feel at home. Let's have a discussion in this beautiful place.

The fiscally responsible approach to editing

References in Wikipedia are like money. You have it, your edits go places; you don't, then they are not accepted. And of course you are not allowed to print your own money, i.e. make-up your own references, they have to be from third-party, reliable sources, i.e. real money from a real bank. Needless to say you are not allowed to spend other people's money. All currency may have to go through the scanner for validation. It is a simple system actually because Wikipedia is like a (data) bank. If the deposits (i.e. edits) you are making are good, your credit limit (i.e. your credibility as an editor) increases. But if you start making counterfeit deposits, (i.e. bogus edits), the accountants, (other editors), may want to have a word with you and, of course, your credit cards will be cancelled, (i.e. your credibility will be zero).

FYI

Please see this comment, which might indirectly concern you. Note though that I don't intend it as a complaint against your redaction per se (you can quote me on that!), but merely an attempt to understand the current norms regarding BLP on wikipedia to see if should still be occasionally making an edit here or not. 50.148.126.65 (talk) 00:42, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the notification. I'm not interested in pursuing this further. I tried to enforce BLP per recent precedent of reverts by other editors on that talkpage and then the political ****storm erupted. That's a sure sign to keep away from it. And yes, please continue making edits here. It is readily apparent that you are an open-minded, eloquent and fair person. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 02:03, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

The anti-sockpuppet barnstar
Thanks for your numerous and ever so helpful investigations of sockpuppets. Ensignricky Talk 00:47, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
LOL. I had no idea such a barnstar existed. Therefore my surprise is double, first for getting the barnstar, second for getting a barnstar that I never heard of. Thank you very much. I really appreciate your nice gesture. It's a great looking barnstar btw. :) Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 00:54, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

And again thank you for your edits on my created article that is up for DYK. Much appreciated. It might not be within your field of interest but could you take a look at my created article Rebecca Simonsson which I just nominated for DYK today. Regards,--BabbaQ (talk) 22:28, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi BabbaQ. You are very welcome. It was a pleasure helping out in your articles because I find the subjects interesting and nice. I'll have a look at your article and see how I can help out. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 22:41, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My thanks

Been so busy here in Kansas, I forgot to thank you for clearing the nonsense off my talk page. Subsequently, the editor in question decided that you and FactStraight were both sockpuppets of mine, so I felt the need to address that issue personally.

Once again, thank you and hope you and yours have a safe and happy Christmas. --Kansas Bear (talk) 02:55, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You are very welcome Kansas Bear. All the best to you too. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 03:01, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching that, and sorry that I missed it. I've added your credit. The discussion had gotten long enough that I was having trouble finding the DYKmakes and just went with the text under the original nomination. -Kieran (talk) 05:10, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Thank you very much for your fast action Kieran. All the best. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 05:13, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I will nominate it for DYK in a few days time so if you want to you could check if you can find some more info to expand the article. or simply improve the prose. Always appreciated! DYK

Hello! Your submission of Swen Swanson at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! - Karenjc (talk) 22:13, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dr. K. Thanks for the message - was glad to help with the review. One thing I'm struggling with though: the review is showing up on the article's individual DYK template talk page, but our comments there aren't being transcluded onto T:DYK. Can you point me at what I'm doing wrong? Cheers, - Karenjc (talk) 22:31, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you again Karen for your help. The problem with the transclusion can be solved by forcing the server to renew the connection. At the talkpage of the article you can make a dummy edit: choose "edit source", then save without adding anything. Check again, the conversation should appear. Take care. Freedom of religion in Georgia — looking for comments on sourcing and impartiality

Hi. I hope you've been doing well. I was wondering if you might be willing to have a look at the article on Freedom of religion in Georgia, where I have done a major rewrite. The article, as it currently stands, is highly critical of the Georgian Orthodox Church and its activities in the public arena in Georgia — but I'm not sure what else I can do, since this appears to be the view taken by mainstream reliable published sources. I asked for feedback at the Eastern Orthodoxy wikiproject talk page, and I got a lengthy reply from one editor suggesting some ideas which may or may not be usable per Wikipedia's RS and NPOV policies as they are generally understood. If you have any thoughts on this subject, I'd be grateful to hear them. Thanks. — Richwales (no relation to Jimbo) 22:56, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rich. I am very well, thank you. I hope everything is well with you also. Thank you for you kind comments. I'll check into this and I'll let you know. It is always a pleasure talking to you. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 23:27, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Time for an RfA?

Hi Δρ.Κ.

I hope this post finds you well. I was wondering if you would consider standing for adminship and permitting me to nominate you. You appear to have an admirable record of content creation and your non-article contributions lead me to believe that you would use the tools in a trustworthy way. What are your thoughts?- MrX 15:35, 17 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MrX. Thank you very much for your kind comments and for taking the time to look at my work. Thank you also for your offer regarding nominating me for a potential RfA. I would be very pleased to accept it, as long as I decide on actually going through the process. Perhaps if I focus enough on the idea of an RfA I could attempt it. But I haven't given it much thought. It is like visiting a relative. It sounds vaguely like a good idea, but sometimes the mechanics of actually going through with it make the fun diminish somewhat. :) Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 00:08, 18 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your reservations. If you decide later that you would like to pursue it, please let me know and I will be glad to nominate you. Happy editing.- MrX 02:53, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much MrX for the honour. I'll make sure you are the first to know. :) Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 06:38, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quite a bit of hubris

I just scanned this page for hubris, and my detector blew up. That means a lot of hubris was in the process of being identified before my detector was rendered inoperative. Here is my explanation of your disgraceful hubris: "DR K is a Danish television channel from DR dedicated to culture and history." You will, of course, Greek man, be devastated by my public outing of your hubris—but I make no apology.

But whence this utter gibberish about hubris? And not just hubris, mind you, for I have detected total complacency and total hubris. Simply disgraceful.

Verily, I need my medication, sire! Adieu! 86.176.100.80 (talk) 19:46, 19 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Third Opinion request, Greek Orthodox Church

The procedure with 3O requests is that whoever removes the entry form the list is providing the request. Thus no need to state who will be providing. Mark Marathon (talk) 07:02, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Comment Change

Hi, Dr. K. Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Northern_Cyprus&diff=592791087&oldid=592781593 You said: "Not allowed to change the comments of others.". My aim was not to change the user comments as you may guess immediately (I did not change even a comma in your comment in essence). I wanted only organize the pro and con opinions in the systematic way. I do not know any way of this. A table is not suitable I think. Once I remimber, there were green OK and red NON symbols in Wikipedia for voting in Talk pages. I think, consensus is more than voting, in essence. Is there a tool in Wikipedia that users put pro..con symbols while simultanously have the ability to add relevant opinion? I think the merit of pro..con opininions superside the numbers of pros or cons. Kind regards. Alexyflemming (talk) 13:44, 28 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sign of the Cross

I thought perhaps you'd like to see a quote I found about ancient practice of making the sign of the cross. While it's not from apostolic times, and hence would not satisfy some, it does explain why written record from those times is unlikely to appear.

St. Basil the Great, canon 91: "From the dogmas and preachings preserved in the Church, we have some in doctrine set forth in writing, and others, which have come down to us from apostolic tradition, we have received in secret, both of which have equal force as regards piety. ... For example, to mention the first and most common custom: Who has taught in writing those that put their hope on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to sign themselves with the sign of the Cross?"

It never ceases to amaze me that those who require documentary proof of everything forget that the documents represent the testimony of those who wrote them. If that testimony is false, what good are the documents? And if true, why is their word not good also? Evensteven (talk) 10:00, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Evensteven for that much needed dose of eloquence, logic and calm scholarship. I agree completely. Hi Dr.K, thank you for your contribution to the RfC on Justin Bieber's behaviour and legal issues. Some users have posted that the RfC is currently a mess, and that we need to be very explicit in what we agree to include and what we don't. As such, I have created a second survey, which cuts the content into points. Could you take the time to post your opinion on each point, whether you think it should be included or not, or summarized, or changed. It will be a bit tedious but we need your detailed input to move forward. Thanks again. starship.paint (talk | ctrb) 05:52, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I saw it. Thank you for your hard work. Well done. Now you made it easier for everyone to reach a decision. Hello Dr.K.! I can see from your AN/EW report about a week ago that User:Nfomamdoalfrlpsa had resumed his disruptive editing, which resulted in a one month block. I think you'd probably be aware by now, but anyway, his block was subsequently extended to indefinite with talk page access revoked, apparently due to personal attacks by the said user.

I would have wanted to be informed that you had lodged a new report about the user, so that I could have weighed in on the matter. Nevertheless, thank you very much for your prompt action in reporting him, and do keep up your great work! Optakeover(Talk) 14:35, 11 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Optakeover. Thank you very much for your kind offer of assistance in the second 3RR report. I did not want to put pressure on you, so I did not inform you, even though your intervention in the first report was invaluable and very much appreciated. As it turns out, Nfomamdoalfrlpsa returned as a sock but thankfully was blocked soon after. Thank you again for your nice words. It is good to know editors like you are around. :) Take care. Perhaps you can also look at the archive. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 08:55, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I also used the wrong template for the report. I meant block evasion, not recent release of block. Sorry about that. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 09:00, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(EC)AIV was probably over the top - it's intended for obvious vandalism in progress. I would posit that I am not the only one who didn't get it - as it's sat unactioned for hours now. I've blocked him for username, but I'd suggest WP:UAA in the future for that sort of report. I don't have the time at the moment to go over the wall of text that is that SSP. SQLQuery me! 09:12, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Some of the troll's edits were bona-fide vandalism but I understand your point. The Vgleer SPI regulars will take care of the rest. Best regards. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 09:14, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You might not have noticed, but User:COXX domination had already been blocked for a few hours when you reported him to WP:AIV. Same with User:Leerslost, and I believe 1 more before that. If you like, you can check the block status of a user by going to Special:Log/block, and entering in User:(username) in the "Target (title or user)" field. Let me know if you have any questions - I'd be happy to help. I know how annoying these persistent socks can be, hopefully we can get them all knocked out. I'm going to go back thru these and make sure autoblock is on etc. SQLQuery me! 21:37, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's the first thing I check. COXX domination just got blocked by Amalthea about 17 minutes ago at 21:30 UTC. Similarly Amalthea blocked Leerslost at 21:14 UTC, about half an hour ago. Both blocks happened after my AIV reports. Nevertheless, thank you for offering your help in blocking this troll. Much appreciated. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 21:48, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
HOLY COW! My time zone isn't right. Sorry about that. I've been away for almost a year. SQLQuery me! 21:52, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I have to double-check this time zone discrepancy all the time and I have been here all along. :) Welcome back, by the way. Take care and thanks again. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 21:57, 17 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Woohoo

Hey Dr. K, you think this is correct, and if not, do you recognize this joker? Who was it that was trying so hard to out me? Later! Drmies (talk) 01:50, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Doc. Great actions on your part. That's one of the typical MOs of the vandal/troll. Great work on the article btw, as usual. With your editing we may yet bring these K-pop articles into some encyclopaedic shape. Not quite to GA level, if that is at all possible, but at least to something better than usual. :) Thanks for letting me know. It is always nice seeing you here. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 02:09, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should write up those guidelines, or pick one of those articles and make it a GA. Wouldn't that be a trip? Only problem is, I don't know if one can find enough reliable sources to make it happen... Anyway, it's not just K-pop and J-pop--I found fancy timelines at Galneryus as well. J-metal, sure! Drmies (talk) 02:21, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
After you mentioned it, I just realised that J-pop is a parallel universe to K-pop. I just can't bear the thought of the usual K-pop problems having just doubled. I should perhaps start patrolling J-pop articles which, if the quality of the K-pop articles is any indication, may need serious quality adjustments. Good work on cleaning up Galneryus but as you mentioned, it is difficult to bring this type of articles near GA due to lack of sources. I think the best we can do is to at least reference any information present in those articles. Btw, which guidelines did you have in mind? Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 03:11, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

SPI

Hi Dr.K., when you file SPIs to check the underlying IPs please request CU cos they're the ones who can do something about it. Thanks, Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 05:53, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Callanecc. Since, as you say it helps, I will. Thank you for your great help btw in dealing with sock disruption. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 14:21, 18 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure?

Are you sure? That seems awfully "contentual". Drmies (talk) 23:51, 24 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Doc. The username format, the timing, the edit-summary attacks and the attack comments on the talkpage led me to add it to the SPI, at least for an investigation as to the presence of a proxy. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 00:02, 25 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hitler and Mannerheim recording

Hi there friend. I saw you changed "deemed impossible" to "deemed possible" in the Hitler and Mannerheim recording. I re-changed it back to "deemed impossible" in the belief you made a mistake, I only first later that same day while I was re-visiting the monologue, realized you were actually right. So, I have changed it back to "deemed possible". My apologies friend. Jonas Vinther (talk) 17:50, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonas Vinther: I don't know where we met before so you can call me multiple times "friend" but never mind. I only did three consecutive edits into your article, all correcting clear errors. Now look well into my three edits: My edit 1 on 10 March 2014, My edit 2 on 10 March 2014 and My edit 3 on 10 March 2014. Do you see that none of the three of my edits made the change?
Now look at the version of the article when you created it: on 5 February 2014. This version clearly says: This I would have deemed possible.. Conclusion: You wrote this when you first created your article. So please don't write false allegations against other editors before you investigate matters better than you just did. And try to cut back on the sarcasm. Thank you. However, if you need help on how to read WP:DIFFs please let me know so that I can assist you. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 14:37, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh my... I think you badly misunderstood my point! There was no sarcasm? and I certainly didn't try to sound rude or cocky. I simply informed you that I made a clear mistake which I apoligezed for, in case you wondered why I changed your edit. I said "friend" simply as a kind gesture, not to be taken that seriously. Jonas Vinther (talk) 17:50, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jonas Vinther: You said: I saw you changed "deemed impossible" to "deemed possible" and I only first later that same day while I was re-visiting the monologue, realized you were actually right. But the whole thing is I never touched that sentence, so there is no way I was right or wrong. Please look at my three diffs. None of them show that I ever had anything to do with that sentence. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 15:07, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As far as you calling me friend, I can see the context now that I have read your message more carefully. But I had seen your edit summary at the article: Please, do NOT edit the dialogue! and I was expecting more of the same. In any case, sorry about that. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 19:19, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No problem at all... Friend. :) Jonas Vinther (talk) 17:50, 3 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your grammar edit on the page, I was completely convinced I had corrected all grammar mistakes as I translated it, but I guess not. Jonas Vinther (talk) 13:54, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are very welcome. It was a pleasure. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 01:45, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Beatles Songs

Is far as I'm concerned, songs by the Beatles (with the exception of Helter Skelter) are not correctly classified as hard rock. Usually a song needs to have more than just a heavy guitar before it can be considered hard rock. Helter Skelter is hard rock, because it has more than just heavy guitars. Otherwise the songs are usually classified as rock or blues rock.

I'm rather new to editing the wiki, so I'm not entirely familiar with what edits are considered constructive and what aren't. Songs such as "Hold the Line" by Toto, "Tush" by ZZ Top, "All Right Now" by Free, "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple, "More than a Feeling" by Boston, "Born to be Wild" by Steppenwolf, "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin. Those are the sorts of songs that I consider to be hard rock, because they have more than just a heavy guitar. Take out the guitars of The Beatles' heavier songs (except Helter Skelter which is certainly their heaviest) and they'll just sound like ordinary average conventional rock. C.Syde65 (talk) 04:50, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi C.Syde65. I realise you have your opinions about the genre of the various songs but in Wikipedia this is considered WP:Original research and it is not allowed. Further, if a fact is supported by a source we don't remove the fact or its source. I hope this is of some help to you. Welcome onboard by the way. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 05:16, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well okay, I understand now. It's just that I know many people who if you were to say this Beatles song is hard rock, they would say "Hard rock? Is that a joke?" I won't make any further edits on those parts, I didn't understand that those things meant don't edit in any way. You may have noticed that I'm just still learning about these things. C.Syde65 (talk) 05:27, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I did notice you are still learning. That is why I haven't filed a report yet at the administrator's noticeboard. Sorry for the final warning but since you were going so fast it was the fastest message I could come up with to indicate that you had to slow down a bit. Take care. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 05:34, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's alright. C.Syde65 (talk) 05:38, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Άγιον Όρος

Hi there, wondering if you could tell me if Άγιον in Άγιον Όρος is commonly pronounced ά-γι-ο(ν) or ά-γιο(ν) -- I want to make sure the transcription here is correct. — Lfdder (talk) 22:34, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lfdder. Both forms are valid. The former is more formal, while the latter is more common in everyday speech amongst ordinary people. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 23:15, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Canvassing madness

Thans for fixing the mess with the wp:spa ip account. It appears he is an old one. Also take a mind that another old wp:spa is into large scale edit war (instant reverting whenever possible), while canvassing is the epitomy of his disruptive pattern [[5]][[6]][[7]][[8]][[9]][[10]].Alexikoua (talk) 21:29, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

95.107.208.205 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) has admitted it is Balkanian`s word. The problem is Balkanian`s word cannot go on canvassing as an IP to avoid scrutiny. I'll leave him a mesage. Δρ.Κ. λόγοςπράξις 22:12, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are right, and as such, I apologise. But, as you have choose to revert a SOURCED material on Albania, it would be kind to take part in the discussion on Talk:Albania.Balkanian`s word (talk) 12:55, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I had forgot WP:Canvasing rules, so I did it again. I read now, and I fully understand it. The first massage, is not canvasing of course, as it was you who reverted the material :)

This is madness. If you are really, trying to put some real stuff on WP, than start discussing on Talk:Albania. You say that the results are questioned. WHO ON EARTH SAYS THAT except Golden Dawn and Omonia???? WHO ON EARTH SAYS that CIA factbook is not a RS??? On the other hand, you are just trying to engage in an ethnic POV battle, than you are totally justified to revert without explanations this page.Balkanian`s word (talk) 07:08, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
