European records in the sport of athletics are ratified by the European Athletic Association. Records are kept for all events contested at the Olympic Games and some others. Unofficial records for some other events are kept by track and field statisticians. Records are kept for events in track and field, road running, and racewalking.

Outdoor

Men

Steve Cram holds the mile run and 2000 metres records and also shares the 4×800 metres relay record with Sebastian Coe.
Sergey Bubka's world and European records in pole vault have dominated the sport, marking him as one of the world's best athletes.
Jonathan Edwards broke the triple jump world record three times.
Roman Šebrle set his world and European decathlon record in 2001.
