    Impact

On January 21, 2017, the nationwide Women's March was estimated to have been the largest single-day demonstration in United States History.[1] It is difficult to tell what type of legislative impact the march had on the U.S. Government. Still, it likely brought awareness to women's general issues, given the event's magnitude. The Lincoln March was one of three in Nebraska that day. [2] The Lincoln March recurred every year, including 2020 when it was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It remains to be seen whether the march will occur under the Biden administration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kala miner (talkcontribs)

    Question about sneed and chuck

In a The Simpsons episode (E-I-E-I-(Annoyed_Grunt)), there is a store that is called "Sneed's Feed and Seed (Formerly Chuck's)". Does this mean the store was called Chuck's Feed and Seed? I don't get it. 105.111.91.78 (talk) 03:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Edit for INNO CITY wikipedia page

Hi I found an untrue content on INNO CITY page. It's saying "The development was built as a joint venture between South Korean Inno Group and the military-owned Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (MEHL)." INNO CITY project is developed by INNO INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT CO., LTD. and this company is a joint venture of INNO GROUP and Myanmar local company, not MEHL.

I tried to edit this content, but my edit has undone because of unexplained content removal. Please let me know how I can remove the untrue content and change it to the real fact. Thank you.

Hello. First of all, apologies for reverting your questions here.
Based on the diff it is clear that you not only change the MEHL, but you also attempted to remove whole sections about the Controversy of this project, and also the plans of the project. When removing contents, you must justify your actions, such as providing verifiable references that the content is not true. SunDawn (talk) 07:28, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia has no way to determine WP:TRUTH. Instead, we use verifiable assertions based on reliable published sources (WP:RS). If a statement is supported by a cited reliable source, you must not remove it. If that statement is contradicted by a different reliable source, you can add that contradiction to the article and cite your source. If subsequent developments have changed the situation, is is sometimes appropriate to modify existing sentences (e.g., change the verb tense). -Arch dude (talk) 14:32, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Jack Fallon - Urgent

Hello, When Googling the name "Jack Fallon" a Wikipedia page comes up with a Jazz Musician. However, Jack Fallon is a CEO for a large health company, and his picture is attached to this article. How can we attach the right article for when people search Jack Fallon? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.160.166.234 (talk) 14:26, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We cannot control what Google shows, you need to contact them
Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. The same feedback facility is also provided on Bing and some other search engines. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:31, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Courtesy link to Wikipedia's article Jack Fallon. We do not have an article on the businessman or on any other persons who share this name. The businessman might, but probably does not, merit a Wikipedia article of his own, as it is unlikely that he has garnered much coverage by independent reliable sources unless he is prominent, for reasons beyond merely doing his job competently, that might make him Notable in Wikipedia's special sense of the term. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.219.35.136 (talk) 16:38, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yup - no Jack Fallon of Total Life Changes that I can find. A Google search shows that he's unlikely to qualify for his own article. The image in this article appears to be jazz musician Jack Fallon.[[1]] If his article had a photo, it might override the businessman's photo in the search results. Anyone more knowledgeable with Wikipedia copyright guidelines know if uploading it would be considered fair use, since he's not alive anymore, and there's no visible copyright info on the site? Can we infer that it has been placed in the public domain, thus meeting the fair use guidelines? It also appears here, with no photographer attribution [[2]].TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:12, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtempleton:. We assume all images are fully-non free copyrighted unless we have affirmative (and verifiable) evidence to the contrary (e.g., a release into the public domain or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license), or some situational status by which it passed into the public domain (such as publication before 1925 or that it was taken by a U.S Federal employee as part of their official duties, etc.). The lack of claimed attribution or copyright symbol is irrelevant. It might be able to be used under fair use since he's deceased, if some time was spent looking for a free image, and none could be found, but there's a conceptual mix up above. We use non-free images under fair use as an exception to their retained copyright. An image that's in the public domain (which has little to do with public display), could never be used under fair use because the concepts are utterly incompatible. By definition, a claim of fair use is for works that are copyrighted, and thus not in the public domain, or, stated another way, by definition, an image that's in the public domain has no copyright protection, and so fair use–a claim for use despite something's protected copyright status– for something in the public domain, would be a non sequitur. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 23:55, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That makes sense. So short of contacting his estate and asking for permission, it will have to sit imageless. In the meantime, I would recommend anyone interested in removing Jack Fallon's incorrect picture to use the feedback link at the bottom of the Knowledge Graph. It may take numerous attempts over weeks but Google will fix it eventually. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 00:37, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Interlinking image file with English Wikipedia

When I interlinking the this image with English Wikipedia article infobox called "image" parameter, the image doesn't appear. The image exists in Ukrainian Wikipedia. What is the problem? The Supermind (talk) 14:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Why were my page additions reverted?

Hi, I'm new to editing Wikipedia pages and just added some useful information to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ledbury and was then sent the message below. I'm not sure what I did wrong and would appreciate any help and guidance to understand why my additions were reverted. Thank you.

Hello, I'm SunDawn. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Ledbury—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. SunDawn (talk) 15:35, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

    80.189.53.189 (talk) 16:17, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello IP user. SunDawn can probably give you more information behind their reasoning for reverting your edit. That said, I imagine they believed your edit resembled linkspam. Extermal links can be valuable additions to a page, but it must be done with care. For one thing, they should not be placed in the body of the article, which your edit did. They also should not use promotional sounding language such as, "For more local Herefordshire Folklore and History visit...", which your edit did. You also included the link at the end in the external links section, which if that link belongs anywhere on the page, that is where it belongs. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:41, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! This is a diff of the change you made that I reverted. I reverted the change for the reason ONUnicorn (talk · contribs) has mentioned, namely because of this sentence: "For more local Herefordshire Folklore and History visit..." that have promotional prose, which should not be on Wikipedia. Placing the site on the external links section would not be a problem, as the site is neutral and cover the topic pretty well. Thank you!SunDawn (talk) 23:14, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Problems accessing EnWiki

Hi - an editor I know and trust has contacted me by e-mail to tell me that she is unable to access EnWiki today - not that she can't edit, but she can't connect at all. "The server at en.wikipedia.org is taking too long to respond." She's checked with friends and family in the same locale with same ISP, they can get access, but despite multiple reboots, trying different servers, even trying her husband's computer, she's not getting access. Other websites all work fine, just EnWiki for some reason. Any thoughts about what to try? (If it matters, she's in Mexico). Thanks in advance for any suggestions, which I will have to forward by e-mail (since she can't see this page!). GirthSummit (blether) 17:16, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If it helps anyone think of a possible solution, she can't get onto any Wikimedia sites, like EsWiki or Commons, they just won't connect. It's been like this since she got up this morning. GirthSummit (blether) 17:48, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Spacrpcanada, I have just left a template on your talk page with some information about our conflict of interest guidelines. Please note that Registered professional accountant is not the Society of Professional Accountants of Canada's page (you refer to it above as "our page"); it is Wikipedia's page about Registered professional accountants. Your edit to that page removed basically all the content and replaced it with "for More information go to our website www.rpacanada.org", which is entirely inappropriate. Now, obviously, we do not want the content to be obsolete and misleading. The preferred action for you, as an editor with a conflict of interest regarding that subject, to take is to make an edit request, by typing "{{request edit}}" on the article's talk page, and then specifying what should be changed in a format like, "Change X to Y." You should also cite some reliable sources which are independent of the Society of Professional Accountants to support the changes. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:56, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can we modify what text search counts as a hit?

There's a dispute at the "muon gee-minus-two" (Muon g−2) article over whether we should use a minus sign for "minus" or a hyphen, both in the article name and in the text. The argument for the hyphen is that an ASCII text search won't work if the text uses a proper minus sign.

Is there a way to force a search for "g-2" to pick up "g−2"? Either globally on WP or locally in that article through some kind of markup? — kwami (talk) 23:37, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwamikagami: Are you thinking about using the find and replace feature that the visual editor has? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 23:56, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I meant for the reader. The one objection to moving the article to its proper name is that it would be inconvenient to the reader, because they'll only be able to search the article visually. I was wondering if we could customize things so that someone searching the article with ctrl-F for instances of "g-2" will find "g−2" as well. If not as a WP-wide behaviour, then perhaps some sort of markup so that the reader sees "g−2" but cntl-F sees it as "g-2". — kwami (talk) 00:29, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwamikagami: our convention is to create redirects for common miss-spellings, from the "miss-spelled" name to the "correct" name. That solves the article name problem. It does not solve the ctrl-F problem, but IMO that is not nearly as important. -Arch dude (talk) 01:03, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. The argument against using the correct formatting of the article name seems to be that it would encourage the correct formatting of the article text, which would be inconvenient. I was looking for a way to make everyone happy. — kwami (talk) 01:28, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tables with missing header rows on California county pages

Every page for a county in California that I've checked contains collapsible tables that are missing their second header row when expanded, rendering the data unlabeled and unsortable. For example, there's four bad tables on the page for Santa Clara County, in the Demographics, Politics and Crime sections. They all seem to have one of the following headers:

    • Places by population and race
    • Places by population and income
    • Cities by population and voter registration
    • Cities by population and crime rates

The problem seems to be due to the tables using "collapsible" instead of "mw-collapsible", though I'm not sure they should be collapsed at all per MOS:COLLAPSE.

If it was just one page I'd fix it myself, but with California having 58 counties it seems like a case for a bulk edit, so I'd like to kick this one up to a more experienced editor. — Spiders Everywhere (talk) 02:12, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, i'm new to Wikipedia still and i was told by someone a while ago that, all anonymous user's ip address's are displayed for all to see if they make edits or pages. What about regular user's? Will my IP address be displayed after i post this or make an edit or a page, even with a registered account here? No (although CheckUsers still can see it). Kleinpecan (talk) 15:01, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Pepper R Sun:. See WP:CHECK. Almost the only reason these trusted individuals would have access to your IP as a logged-on user is if there is reason to suspect you are using multiple accounts for nefarious purposes (see WP:MULTIPLE). That's unlikely to happen and having an account is much more anonymous than not having one. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:10, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you accidentally edit without being logged in then you can request the IP address is hidden. See Wikipedia:Requests for oversight. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:13, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Category diffusion size

I was going through a category recently. It was a "container category", and it contained well over 200 subcategories. The category is Culture by city in the United States. I was wondering if the category is large enough so that it could be further sorted into something along the lines of "Culture by city by state in the United States".

There are enough entries/subcategories in said category to make decently-sized diffusing subcategories. For instance, a "Culture by city in California" category would have 33 entries.

    Painting17 (talk) 15:28, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Painting17 I would say this is probably not a good idea, but you could suggest this at Wikipedia talk:Categories for discussion. The same argument would apply to other members of Category:Categories by city in the United States. TSventon (talk) 16:57, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TSventon Good point. Thanks for the suggestion. I'm fine with the outcome either way. Painting17 (talk) 17:03, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Painting17: We already have Category:California culture by location. I only found one other Category:Hawaii culture by location, but many state culture categories like Category:Florida culture start with a group of culture by city which could easily have been in a subcategory. A search finds many topics with "Category:X in California by city". PrimeHunter (talk) 18:56, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Rollback rights assignment

Which criterias are used to assign this privilege? Dr Salvus 16:31, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Rollback#Requesting rollback rights. "While there is no fixed requirement, a request is unlikely to be successful without a contribution history that demonstrates an ability to distinguish well-intentioned edits with minor issues from unconstructive vandalism. Rollback is not for very new users: it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. In addition, editors with a recent history of edit warring will often not be granted rollback given concerns of abuse." TSventon (talk) 16:35, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
TSventon, I have identified vandalism but sometimes I have been wrong. Can it be a problem if I want to have this privilege? Dr Salvus 17:30, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Dr Salvus, I don't know any more than the guidance above, but it suggests that you should work on your history of successfully identifying vandalism before requesting rollback rights. TSventon (talk) 17:38, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Dr Salvus, I see that you have made at least one edit using WP:Twinkle. Twinkle has a 'rollback' button which accomplishes the same thing as a rollback user right, as well as a lot of other great anti-vandalism tools. If you do enough productive work in anti-vandalism with Twinkle, it's likely that an Admin will notice your work and end up offering you rollback rights of their own volition. Let me know if you have questions. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 17:45, 9 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

70.179.216.206, we can't be too hasty to declare a team playoff-bound as no team is guaranteed to make the playoffs yet. The Jazz hold the 1 seed in the west with a 13.5 game lead over the 9 seed Spurs but, with 20 games yet to be played, they could have a historic collapse and miss the playoffs altogether. Error about Classical Conditioning regarding Dog Training

After looking up "Dog Training" I found something that is not right. It is where you can click number 46, under Classical Conditioning.

A dog may become afraid of rain through an association with thunder and lightning, or it may respond to the owner putting on a particular pair of shoes by fetching its leash.

The first example of classical conditioning is correct, however the next is not. Classical conditioning is related to only behaviors that are involuntary. Fetching a leash would not be considered involuntary because the dog made the choice to do that. That is an example of respondent conditioning. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:18F:600:2320:2C3A:A7FE:9072:FE42 (talk) 17:08, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

    Hi there,

If you click on "Arpitan" in the infobox of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, it links to Franco-Provençal via a redirection. Could someone establish a direct link between Ariptan and Franco-Provençal (keeping Arpitan as the name that appears)? Thanks.

IP editor, the infobox uses Template:Native name, which links to Module:Language/data/iana languages. I am not sure if what you want is possible or desirable, Trappist the monk may be able to advise or you could ask on the template talk page. TSventon (talk) 23:58, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If I understand what OP wants, then a redirect is the way to accomplish it. And, since Arpitan redirects to Franco-Provençal already, there is nothing to do.

    Submitting books

I have tried multiple times to submit a new page about a crime novel but it keeps being rejected due to a lack of sources, even though according to Wikipedia's guidelines this book counts as a primary source for itself. Why are the editors not following Wikipedia's guidelines when it comes to book submissions?

Does the book satisfy the requirements in WP:NBOOK? RudolfRed (talk) 23:28, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The draft in question is Draft:Hard Frost, which is entirely unreferenced. Yes, a book itself can be used for a plot summary, but the book itself does not establish the notability of the book. If that were the case, every book would be notable, which is absurd. In most cases, books become notable because they are reviewed in several reliable sources which are then used as references in the Wikipedia article. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:32, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
We want an article for every notable book (WP:NBOOK). More than 2.2 million new titles are published every year: that's more than 6000 per day. Very few of them are notable. Yours is not one of them. -Arch dude (talk) 04:08, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Question

    Why can't non-sysop view delete contributions? Dr Salvus 12:43, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That is because deleted contributions are generally deleted by admins. The point of deleting them is to not have them be readable anymore. Incorrect Year Of Birth For American Singer Mariah Carey

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariah_Carey

This is, for whatever reason, a highly debated topic - the year of birth for Mariah Carey. Formerly, the Wikipedia page for Mariah Carey stated that the singer was born in either 1969 or 1970, and as of recent, has been changed to the incorrect year, 1969. Mariah is undoubtedly born in 1970 - this has been confirmed by her OWN MOTHER on the Oprah Winfrey Show, back in 1999.

The citation in the note following the date of birth given in the article shows that her birth was announced in a local paper in 1969. It's improbable (to say the least) that such an announcement would appear a year in advance of her actual birth. Deor (talk) 16:12, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Please see the note 'a' next to the DoB in the first sentence for clarification. However the video does state at ~2.33 that she was born in 1970. But, as noted above the local paper would hardly have published an announcement a year before her birth. It could easily just be a 'slip of the tongue' by the mother. I'd like to move a page, but the target title already exists as a redirect page. Essentially I want to swap the titles of the two pages. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Biggleston (talkcontribs) 16:57, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Biggleston The easiest thing to do would be to simply delete the redirect first, then move the article, then recreate a redirect at the original article title. As deleting requires an administrator, you may request the page move at requested moves. If you think the page move will be at all controversial, you should first establish a consensus for what you want to do. 331dot (talk) 17:24, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
