Peer review limits changed
This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. The backlog is for PR requests which have gone at least four days without comments, and some of these have gone two weeks or longer waiting for a review.
While we have been able to eventually review all PRs that remain on the backlog, something had to change. As a result of the discussion here, the consensus was that all users are now limited to one (1) open peer review request.
If you already have more than one open PR, that is OK in this transition period, but you cannot open any more until all your active PR requests have been closed. If you would like someone to close a PR for you, please ask at Wikipedia talk:Peer review. If you want to help with the backlog, please review an article whoe PR request is listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog/items. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:03, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
I note that you have again nominated for AfD a well-referenced article which does not have any appreciable support. I am concerned that you are continuing to demonstrate poor comprehension of encyclopedic content and the use of deletion processes. Jclemens (talk) 02:34, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
George, per my earlier suggestion above, and the concerns here, I think it's a good idea if we have this conversation on your "mentorship" page before you make any more xFD nominations. Sorry, but this is becoming a concern, now. Begoon talk 02:51, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:John Altman Nick Cotton BBC EastEnders 1985.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:John Altman Nick Cotton BBC EastEnders 1985.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:38, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
Block an IP address
Hey, can you please block IP address: 75.72.241.244. See what the person did to this article. Being deleted
Thank you for taking the time to add the {{being deleted}} tag. Unfortunately, your added this tag while my bot was in the middle of substituting the template (see the recent edit history for SporkBot). So, now I have to go back through the 2000 or so edits and remove the {{being deleted}} tag from a few hundred articles. If you are going to add this tag to templates which are being substituted, could you please put it inside of <noinclude>...</noinclude>
? This way the bot can properly substitute the templates. In fact if you could do this for the game log templates, this will help reduce the number of steps in the substitution process, since we won't have to remove the being deleted tag after the templates are substituted. Arthur and Pauline Fowler redirects
I just declined your request at redirects for creation. Since you can create new articles by yourself, you can of course circumvent that page if you disagree with my rationale, but I'd advise two things: Firstly, as pointed out by GunGadin on Talk:Pauline Fowler#Should "Arthur and Pauline Fowler" has their own article?, many of the more exotic combinations you propose are unlikely to be used as search terms. Secondly, a Google search for Arthur and Pauline shows that the Fowlers actually do not generate the most first-page hits. Thus, someone searching for "Arthur and Pauline" may arguably be looking for someone else. "Pauline and Arthur" has the same problem to a somewhat lesser degree. If you still consider creation of these redirects a net benefit, please go ahead; once created I don't think they will get deleted again (because redirects are cheap, as Elonka pointed out). Huon (talk) 04:17, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
- May I at least create Arthur Fowler and Pauline Fowler, Arthur and Pauline Fowler, Pauline and Arthur Fowler, Pauline Beale and Arthur Fowler, Arthur Fowler and Pauline Beale, and Pauline Fowler and Arthur Fowler without need of approval then? --George Ho (talk) 08:41, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
- As I said you can create them and don't need anybody's approval, but I think it's actually pretty hard to search for, say, "Pauline Fowler and Arthur Fowler" without stumbling about the article on Pauline Fowler in the process - and therefore I cannot imagine why we would need the redirect. DYK for A Young Man's World
On 10 March 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article A Young Man's World, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that a review for the 2000 gay pornographic video A Young Man's World said its portrayal of fictional middle-aged men was demeaning to actual middle-aged men? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/A Young Man's World. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. I am sorry but this whole George Ho thing,he also uses the name Gh87 is a load of bull in my opinion. User George Ho knows exactly what he is doing, which is he is being nothing but a technical smart alek. All George ho does is add tags to articles and nominate articles for deletion. He knows exactly what he is doing. I do not believe he is Autistic either, that was just a ploy so you all would feel sorry for him. I mean George ho has what,6 mentors and not one of the six or so mentors can make him understand what he is doing wrong? No one is that stupid that they would not understand when they have a group of mentors telling them what they did wrong. That should tell you something right there, that his mentors cannot even make him understand. He has a personal vendetta against soap operas and I am sick of everyone Molly-coddling him. Please just ban user George ho,or do not allow him to add tags to everything or nominate articles for deletion. I am telling you he is playing a game with you, even when multiple people explain his wrongdoings to him,he just skirts around the issue by asking questions--74.179.215.67 (talk) 05:45, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- As you have worked out for yourself, George is under mentorship. At this time, he is not submitting anything to xFD without mentor approval.
- The rest of your comments, frankly, border on a personal attack, and I'd be grateful if you would remove them from here, and anywhere else you may have posted them.
- I would, any of George's mentors would, and I'm sure George would, be happy to discuss specific matters with you in a constructive way, but this is not an acceptable manner to approach it. Thank you. Begoon talk 06:07, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Unusual DRV Request
George, what exactly, were you trying to achieve by starting this DRV? While yes, files deleted under WP:CSD#F5 may be restored uncontroversially at any time, I don't understand why you saw it fit to initiate an unnecessary DRV, filling it with spurious arguments having nothing to do with the reasons the files were originally deleted for. Please explain yourself. -FASTILY (TALK) 21:39, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Well, look at Wikipedia talk:wikiProject EastEnders#Deletion review for File:Reg Cox.jpg. AnemoneProject felt it was unnecessary to keep two images and have both removed. Also, some EE Projects members felt the same way, so I used the DRV. --George Ho (talk) 22:11, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Unusual editing
Hello George. You complained about User:GSorby's edits at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:GSorby reported by User:George Ho (Result: page protected). I saw this when reviewing the 3RR board.
- You opened this complaint even though you had reverted the article four times yourself, so an admin could have decided to block *you* for edit warring. You insist on keeping certain images in List of EastEnders characters (1985) even though other members of the WP:EE project think they don't belong. You need to accept consensus on this and allow these images to be removed.
- You also nominated a file for deletion, and in your nomination you voted 'Keep.' This is puzzling behavior. If you actually want the image deleted, you should say 'Delete.' If you don't, you shouldn't nominate it for deletion.
This is not the first time that people have become concerned about your unusual edits. You were once indefinitely blocked back in November due to concerns about competence, and were unblocked under mentorship. To avoid further embarrassment, I would suggest that you work on less contentious areas for a while and avoid reverting changes made by others, unless it is clear vandalism. The patience of other editors is not unlimited and at some point this becomes disruptive editing. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 02:38, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- Ed, thanks for taking the time to comment. I share these concerns, and thought I should add a note that I'm discussing this with George on his mentorship page. Your suggestions are obviously welcome there, too. Begoon talk 02:43, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- What "less contentious areas" and "for a while"? --George Ho (talk) 02:47, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- It seems that at least one of your mentors is now discussing this, so I recommend you reach an agreement with User:Begoon at User talk:George Ho/Mentorship discussions#WP:WikiProject EastEnders. If I were Begoon, I would be thinking you are not following your mentorship agreement, and I would be concerned this will have a bad result. If I had been the admin closing your 3RR case I would probably have issued a block. EdJohnston (talk) 03:48, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- Ed - I am concerned. George has made great progress since being unblocked, and I'd like to prevent this setback turning into a disaster, partly because I'm selfish, and don't want to have wasted the many hours I've spent on this, but mostly because I think George does have a lot to contribute, and can get to grips with the problems here. I hope I'm right. Begoon talk 03:51, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

very long
Can you explain me these two revisions: [1]? This simply doesn't make sense to create a new template - a wrapper is totally enough. We merged many maintain templates in the last year with the |section=
parameter, so why recreating such a mess? mabdul 11:50, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- I undid those edits. However, I wonder why the template is a wrapper, not a stand-alone template, like Template:expand section. --George Ho (talk) 16:04, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- This is because {{Expand}} was deleted after an TFD, but the "futher, section, etc" templates are still considered as useful and thus this (sub)template was moved. mabdul 16:26, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
- I edited "very long section" as resemblance to "expand section" because I have been planning to make "very long" the same way "expand" did. --George Ho (talk) 16:53, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Margaret Tyzack CBE 2010.jpg
A tag has been placed on File:Margaret Tyzack CBE 2010.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the file is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - George, the issue with this image is that it belongs to Getty Images. WP:CSD#F7 says "non-free images or media from a commercial source (e.g., Associated Press, Getty), where the file itself is not the subject of sourced commentary, are considered an invalid claim of fair use and fail the strict requirements of WP:NFCC; and may be deleted immediately." The article says nothing about the picture, and your FUR says that the picture is used only for visual identification in the infobox. That's an automatic fail. You'd do better to try to get a picture of her in one of her famous roles and use that. Or move the image out of the infobox and write something about it if you can find some sourced commentary. Elen of the Roads (talk) 22:57, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- I did restore the screenshot image that someone else uploaded, but I didn't like the screenshot. However, it might comply with the article, doesn't it? --George Ho (talk) 23:04, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

- Hytner, Stewart, Lloyd and Tyzack to be Honored by Queen Playbill.com 31 December 2009
- Patrick Stewart leads arts honours with a knighthood BBC News 31 December 2009
- Well, that won't make any difference, I'm afraid. The article already mentions that Margaret Tyzack was honoured the CBE title in 2010. This image is used for primary visual means and to identify her as CBE. --George Ho (talk) 23:21, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:John Dye.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:John Dye.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 21:37, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

My apologies for taking so long to respond - I didn't have time earlier today. My apologies also for the clumsily-worded closure of the thread in question.
There is nothing especially wrong with your proposals, it's just that I think they are coming at the wrong time, given that we are yet to even determine whether or not GAs will be added to DYK, or whether we will hold an RFC to determine that. Other than that, I think your suggestions are probably already covered by existing rules which stipulate that an article can only appear on DYK once. My main concern though, was that discussion would not be diverted to these side issues when we have more important things to discuss. You are certainly more than welcome to bring these proposals forward once we have sorted out some of the more basic issues. Regards, Gatoclass (talk) 16:47, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
List of Net channels AFD
Hi, George. I am contacting you because you recently left a comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2nd bundle of channel lineups. I have just created another AfD, nominating List of Net channels for deletion. If you are interested, you can leave a comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Net channels. Thanks. -- Wikipedical (talk) 03:17, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Brian Ehlers
On 20 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Brian Ehlers, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that former basketball player Brian Ehlers is now a police officer? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Brian Ehlers. If you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

I will respectfully defer to your judgment about that. :) — Cirt (talk) 18:13, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
You started this
So, as my favourite non-free image expert, how many of these screen grabs do you think we can or should justify if we edit the article where necessary, George? I'm thinking the plot summary is a big, long chunk, and it can be edited to be more succinct and relevant, with some critical commentary - that shouldn't be hard to find for such an iconic TV movie. I'm not asking you to do any editing, I'm happy to do that (though you are welcome to help if you want to) - I'm just here for the copyright advice.Begoon talk 13:14, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
- I cannot find images that would sufficiently help readers find them valuable, irreplaceable, and significant. The only two (or three) images are the "Goodbye" stone and Klinger's marriage. I've asked about including images that would help readers understand the text. Then one said that even "weight loss" is adequate enough to make image of weight loss redundant. --George Ho (talk) 00:41, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- See, that's the kind of thing that confuses me. Why would Klinger's marriage pictures add any more understanding than, say, the shot of the musicians being driven away? I don't really understand the logic that leads you to that conclusion. If you said you disagreed with all the pics except the "goodbye" one, I could sort of see where you were coming from. I might not agree but I would understand your point of view. I'm not saying you are wrong - just that I don't "get" your reasoning. Can you try to explain, please? No hurry - take your time. - Korean musicians? Hmm.... I'm... speechless... However, if that scene is discussed by sources, then the scene of musicians is worth including. Otherwise, even calling it a gag or making it look like an intended gag without saying it explicitly (with proper sources) is not a reason for worthy inclusion. As for the marriage thing, well... Jamie Farr's character always wears dresses. He's wearing a groom suit, and he's marrying a Korean woman... in the end of Korean War. What do you think? --George Ho (talk) 04:09, 5 December 2012 (UTC)
- I think you make a fair point. It all depends what we say in the article, and how we source it. Begoon talk 04:20, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Another question
George, what happens in the following circumstances?
- User uploads file from Flickr, with compatible CC by 2.0 license
- No fancy "This permission was checked by an administrator on such and such a date..." tag is added.
- Later, the license on Flickr is altered to be an incompatible one.
Don't waste a lot of time on this. It was just a situation you might have come across before, and I wondered if you had a quick answer from experience... Begoon talk 09:35, 9 December 2012 (UTC)

Man From Atlantis
Hi George,
From what I've seen of the issue, it looks like the user wanted to have a non-free photo on the article. As we both know, just because someone has a photo on a website, that doesn't make it free to use; there would have to be an acceptable CC license we could view. Barring that, the photo has to be thought of as not PD. Since Patrick Duffy is still living, we can only use PD photos for his page.
It would be nice if we were able to find a PD photo of him where he isn't in character, but I haven't run into any as of now. We could use the photo that was deleted if someone contacts the copyright owner, gets permission and sends it through OTRS. There are some Flickr photos of him but they'd need to have their licenses changed before we could use them here. We hope (talk) 21:12, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
