Ölüm Savaşçısı (film) Notability

Before I send it to AfD, which I really hate doing, can you give me some specific example of notability within WP:MOVIE? I concede that I may be missing something here since sources are likely in Turkish. But "it seems notable to me" doesn't quite meet WP:RS or WP:GNG. -Ad Orientem (talk) 22:37, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

  • I am going by WP:GNG, I was able to discern it is covered in Turkish film sources (and books), without even counting a huge amount of internet coverage we wouldn't normally cite. Granted, I'm no master of Turkish cinema, have only created Kareteci Kiz to this point. If you put the tag back I'm not going to protest further, perhaps it will prompt someone to add additional sources, though that rarely seems to be the prompt for doing so.--Milowenthasspoken 22:44, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Looking at deleted article

Hello, who is a good administrator to ask if I can see an article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Psych_Central&action=edit&redlink=1

I would like to have it posted here: User:Igottheconch/Psych Central CAn you ask please? Thank you for your time. :) Igottheconch (talk) 07:39, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

While I'm not sure I'm a good adminsitrator, I think I can help you with your request. Normally deleted articles can be restored to a user's subspace to allow them to address the reasons for the deletion. In this case however the article was deleted as a copyright violation and therefore cannot be restored anywhere on Wikipedia. It will need to be rewritten from scratch in your own words.--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 18:33, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks guys
Thankfully another admin emailed me this article. I then built upon this article. The enforcement of wikipedia copyright is draconian, and many of these copyright deletions should never occur. If someone else asks for an article, please email it to them, or get an admin to email it to them.
There should be a little template that every admin who will email alleged copyright articles to editors can post on their user page. Good editors are being discouraged from editing because of bullies and editors completely ignorant of copyright law. Igottheconch (talk) 07:44, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

I am both pleased and honored to present you with the Researcher's Barnstar in appreciation for your superb work in finding sources showing Un'amore e una vendetta as notable enough for THIS Wikipedia. While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Six weirds this week. Serendipodous 18:33, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

What was that all about? By the way, I would appreciate you keeping the foul language off my talk page. Thanks. Steve Lux, Jr. (talk) 16:37, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

  • Foul language? What was truly foul was your prod of Notre Dame College (New Hampshire), a completely laughable prod that really made me question your worth as an editor. I made a neutral comment on your talk page about the how it was a poor prod to make you consider whether you erred, and you simply deleted the comment. I self-reverted an aggravated comment I left after seeing your behaviour.--Milowenthasspoken 17:30, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

I'm stopping the top 25 report

It's too much work for nothing except the occasional complaint. If you want to carry it on, I wish you all the best, but you seemed more eager to drop that snake than I did. Serendipodous 23:38, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

  • Serendipodous, you deserve major kudos for all your work on this. I prepared reports for this week, but I'm honestly not sure I have your stamina! I really do think its an important project, but from week to week it is indeed a bit of drudgery to get it done. You've done the reports for the Signpost for over a year now (since June 2013), and took over sole responsibility for the WP:TOP25 since late February 2013. That's amazing. I'll try to do what I can and recruit additional help if possible. The only thing I'm looking forward to is smacking down any haters.--Milowenthasspoken 14:07, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

New Friedman Unit merger discussion

User:Cnilep has reasonably started a merger discussion at Talk:Thomas Friedman/Archives/2014#Merge Friedman Unit to Thomas Friedman. In doing so he transcribed another user's argument for doing so from the recent AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Friedman Unit) which seems reasonable enough but I am not comfortable with similarly transcribing your opposition without your permission. 24.151.10.165 (talk) 18:18, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

WP:TOP25 should be more neutral

I see that in your comments about Hamas, you said that "[T]he bloodshed causing it" (the word it refering, of course, too Operation Protective Edge); sadly, the people who are complaining about the bloodshed are mostly the same people who truely caused it - by hiding missiles inside UNRWA schools and other civilian structures; by telling residents not to leave areas Israel warns it's going to attack, etc). I would hope that you would try to be more neutral in your explanations about these articles. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 16:29, 3 August 2014 (UTC)

  • The bloodshed of the conflict is contributing to the popularity of the article; I made no comment about what who is blame or what is causing the bloodshed so it is ridiculous to say I wasn't being neutral on that count. It doesn't matter whether Hamas is the reincarnation of Satan dropping infants onto missile dumps to ensure certain death; or whether Israel wants to turn Gaza into a megamall by bulldozing away everything and everyone there. I made no comments either way. The conflict and bloodshed of the conflict makes it a popular article. However, while the numbers are neurral on the Top25, the commentary is commentary and based on the observations of the chart creators.--Milowenthasspoken 03:02, 4 August 2014 (UTC)

Milowent, I wish you would take some responsibility for your actions here. There's no need to be dismissive towards editors who bring legitimate concerns to your talk page. What you are characterizing as your "defense of women" was insultingly sexist and contributes to an already negative environment for women on Wikipedia. When you used a random picture of breasts to represent Power Girl, that was demeaning towards women. When you wrote that her "ability to fight villains with a large chest is apparently another one of her powers", that was also demeaning, in addition to being false. gobonobo + c 00:15, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Gobonobo, I am fully responsible for all my edits. I didn't contest the changes made w/in a few hours of the article going live. I'm not likely to tread into this same minefield again, so you can not worry about that. The picture was of cleavage, not exposed breasts; I thought little of it, it was one of ten thumbnails and didn't really strike me as provocative, Lord knows the commons is full of much much worse stuff requiring brain bleach to wash out of my head. Perhaps I am not aware that cleavage is apparently considered provocative in more of the world than I ever thought about. I've learned from this experience to that extent. I certainly know not to add photos of women with exposed heads on the Arabic wikipedia for example, though most of the world thinks that quite absurd. Power Girl is not a well known comic heroine, yet it makes it into the Top 10 most viewed articles of the week on Wikipedia, ahead of major news stories going on around the world? Its very clear to me why that is happening. It was not "false" to claim her "ability to fight villains with a large chest is apparently another one of her powers" -- it was obviously commentary not intended to be taken literally. But I can see and do understand my intent was not completely clear, and some thought I intended it to be sexist. And since words belong to their readers, its important that I realize that's how some took it. But I do think that article was in the Top 10 due to "pathetic losers worshiping (comic) boobs more than live women." Aside from that, in my opinion, the "negative environment for women" on Wikipedia comes primarily from the way editors are treated, by male editors with limited social skills. I saw that first hand last year when I was one of the editors very involved in opposing the Amanda Filipacchi category problems last year. Again and again editors were creating yet more "female author" categories, digging in despite the vast outcry against the sexism inherent in the treatment of female biographies it was causing.--Milowenthasspoken 00:59, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
News Alert: This image has absolutely nothing to do with Power Girl. Added by Milo: It has EVERYTHING to do with her.[1][2]
Thank you for your response Milowent. You seem to be missing the point though. The problem isn't that cleavage is provocative, it is that you used an utterly unrelated image of cleavage to illustrate an article about a female superhero. I understand that it was perhaps a misguided attempt at irony, but as Kaldari pointed out, ironic sexism/hipster sexism is not wanted.
I wouldn't have brought this up with you if I hadn't noticed an ongoing difference in the way that women are treated in the Traffic Report. Whether it is the implication that traffic is driven by the fantasies of male internet users or referring to twerking as "girls waggling their bottoms", there are recurring themes of sexism and heteronormativity on the Traffic Report that you perpetuate. On August 6 two women made the top 10 list and you made comments in regards to both of them that they were "a likely fantasy of many male internet users, let's be honest." As much as I appreciate the cheeky irreverence of the Traffic Report commentary, too often I come away from the report feeling that women are disrespected and objectified there. I look forward to seeing Traffic Report commentary in the future that treats women with more respect. gobonobo + c 02:34, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
  • Gobonobo, the image has EVERYTHING to do with power girl. Power Girl is EXPLOITATIVE, and objectifies women using cartoonish exaggerations. I'm sorry to hear you found women being disrespected in the traffic report, especially so since it has been authored by a female editor [ETA: I was wrong about that. That editor is male, I really can't recall why I felt otherwise.] for almost all of its existence, aside from a few recent weeks by me. Yours is the first negative feedback on the "likely fantasy" comment I've heard (I got a few positive comments on that; that week was mine, ETA: hey, that barnstar above was from a female editor for that same report! Go figure! I'm not about to trot out "my black friend" every time, I just happened to check to see who posted that barnstar.); so I appreciate hearing feedback because I don't know about the negative comments otherwise. Negative comments (not about sexism as far as I am aware) helped deter the prior lead editor from wanting to do the report, but I don't really mind them, I know yours are intended in good faith. You can usually find the draft report posted via the signpost newsroom between Wed to Friday sometime, you're welcome to review it before publication.--Milowenthasspoken 02:53, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Top 25 report

Do you want to alternate? That way we can deflect the flak from each other. Anyhoo, regardless, I've locked down every article on the list (four Reddit threads this week!) except rock music; not sure how to even begin searching for that one. Serendipodous 09:38, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

It MIGHT have to do with the controversy surrounding Lorde's winning "Best Rock Video" at the VGA's, despite not technically being rock music. Serendipodous 09:55, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject Women writers Invitation

Hello Milowent/Archive 6! We are looking for editors to join WikiProject Women writers, an outreach effort which aims at improving articles about women writers on Wikipedia. We thought you might be interested, and hope that you will join us. Thank you!

  • Thanks for the invite, I will check it out. I've seen a number of articles I've created on female authors being tagged by some bot for that project in the past day or so, and I was surprised to see how many I've written. It wasn't an intentional thing, but I kept finding authors who didn't have articles, and I guess most of them were female. Hmmmm.  :-).--Milowenthasspoken 17:33, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

Page views

Do you know why this page says it is #313 in traffic, when that seems to be off by an order of magnitude?--S Philbrick(Talk) 19:05, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

  • Sphil, interesting! After some looking, I have an educated guess. It appears #313 is a monthly number that hasn't been updated since March 2014, see [7]. In March 2014 the article got 384,083 views[8]; in Sept 2014 it only got 101,823 views[9]. If you look at the WP:5000 for the past week, it is only ranked #3134. That makes more sense.--Milowenthasspoken 19:26, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
April 18 was also an odd day, although some have reported some one-off oddities. The March traffic isn't a single spike. Not a big deal, but it does appear the rankings are not updated monthly.--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:53, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Yeah, I thought about that, but there was a User that was adamant about adding the material. So rather than Edit War over it, I just added it neutrally and sourced it properly. Personally I think the blogger's "observations" we're creepy and not "Dad like" at all. If the guy had wanted to criticize her about something insightful, I would have commented about her song choices. Rock classics or not, they deal with some fairly mature themes. That's why I added the additional note about her age, she's just an adolescent girl that happens to be quite attractive.
That said, he's not the only one to comment on her cleavage and at least he did it in a relatively tactful manner. The other sources I have found about Greenberg just blatantly talk about her cleavage and might mention that she sings. I hope she tries out for The X Factor or a similar show. --Scalhotrod (Talk) ☮ღ☺ 18:51, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Mendiola

Hello Milowent, I send you very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, too. But I also want to bring up the matter of Mojo Mendiola again, whose entry you deleted this morning arguing that it had been started ten years ago when notability standards were still in flux. Yet, the fact that they were and the fact that they changed is neither the subject's nor the original editor's fault. And it is a principle of civilized and constitutional societies, never to apply new laws and rules retroactively. I'd therefor be grateful if you could rethink your decision and reactivate Mendiola's entry which only got into your special focus because I did what is usually desired: added more information and sources which demonstrated that the subject's notability has been and is growing. Thank you for your kind attentionBudybla23 (talk) 18:01, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

  • Budybla23, I am sorry the article was deleted, I favor an inclusionist viewpoint and don't like to see editor's work deleted. The "law" is not being applied retroactively in that we can't change the past, the article was permitted to exist long beyond what policy permitted, and no doubt other articles like it lurk throughout the project until people find them. If you can cite to me the three best sources that you think show notability, I will take a close look at them and consider whether a new article could be created that would withstand deletion.--Milowenthasspoken 19:23, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

    • OK, if I understand your response, it sounds like, it is now OK for me to either [a] make certain changes to the article Daniel Bell, or -- (is this correct?) -- to [b] first, ["start out" by doing this]: reinstate a certain change (a new section) on the "Talk:" page Talk:Daniel Bell. Oops, wait a minute! I wrote the above before I saw this [edit]. Now, "[b]" has already been done. (Good! on to [a]) PS: Now it makes sense that your reply to me [above] seems to mention [a] but skips even talking about [b]. Thank you. --Mike Schwartz (talk) 21:46, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
