Question regarding a proper behavior in cases of repeated acts of anonymous vandalism
I have a question regarding a proper behavior in cases of repeated acts of anonymous vandalism. In particular, I am referring to the page Viktor_Petrik. There have been numerous attempts to change the entire contents of the page (with some clearly wrong and unsupported information) and I tried to undo these changes every time I saw them. The modifications came from different IP addresses, so proposing to blacklist particular addresses seemed impractical. Did I behave right under those circumstances? What I am supposed to do the next time when the same modifications are being pushed (after the protection period of one week is over)?
By the way, thank you for reminding me to sign my posts. PtolRek (talk) 03:18, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

- No worries. I didn't mean to be overly critical - mainly just some clarifications, easy to overlook when you're familiar with a topic. --jjron (talk) 02:23, 2 January 2011 (UTC)

I have edited this article to bring it more into line with the standardized article format of WikiProject Ice Hockey. Specifically, I have removed current season statistics (which are not tracked until the end of the season), reduced totals to those of the most senior league, and made some minor format changes (– in place of -). I have also expanded the article and added references. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for creating the article. Cjmclark 19:32, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for help on the article, I haven't worked on hockey articles much so I'll make note of your format changes. Qrsdogg (talk) 20:08, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

I was challenged to hear others say turtle racing could not be made into an FA. Are you game, shovel-man? I'm in process of losing my FA virginity with Painted turtle, so could use the experience to do another one (but a light topic). TCO (talk) 22:20, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, I hadn't seen that article yet--just up my alley. I might have to go to work on that one. Good edits on Mossad shark and Zionist vulture BTW; it makes me wish the Marine Dolphin could have a sidekick (Marine dolphin and CIA rodents just doesn't sound as good). Qrsdogg (talk) 00:18, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks man. I was going to stick the dolphin into the AFD thread. That AFD seemed a little image-lite don't you think? Probably need to limit my class clowning though.
- There are (or used to be) seals or sea lions also.
- On the turtle racing, there are over 500,000 hits for "turtle racing". In "Painted turtle", I had 3 quick newspaper references, plus capture for racing is mentioned as a minor use (compared to pets) in the serious Gamble articles on overcapture concerns. There is some controversy as to whether it is cruelty to animals (I really don't know if it is or not, but I think the controversy makes it inherently more interesting). Obviously it is kitschy and has that appeal. Plus if you look what I wrote, there is stuff about doing it in bars now, not just summer fairs. It's probably totally the sort of pop culture thing wikipedians would enjoy and it's not even as obscure as you might think. Be a fun article to research. Maybe even go get a first hand photo or video and all that. Could really be snazzy (as an article). Plus, I bet you have a lot of great ideas from other stuff you've done (and I'm reasonably heavy on the biology itself, now) for that resource. Here is a thread where we discussed it some and you can see how one could cover this Canadian aspect as well. [1] 04:08, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- P.s. I'm a little bumming right now as I'm getting an FA reviewer who wants my article to be more "technical sounding" when it has huge technical content, but we did the work to very thoughtfully make it readable, while keeping accuracy. Which actually I would do in the real world, too. I have a Ph.D. Find that the more jargony and poor writing types tend to be the ones who care less about actually reporting results or who are defensive on their technical savvy, so try to dress it up. Biologists are the (second worst) too, accurding to a study of journals for needless technical usage and poor writing. Medical of course is the worst. Hope you are not a biologist. :( TCO (talk) 04:08, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
- Well, I can assure you that I am no biologist. I don't have any experience with GA/FA yet either, so that's new to me as well. But I think turtle racing does have some real potential, I look forward to working on it. Qrsdogg (talk) 18:56, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Hey nice job progressing the article. Wanted to invite you to try to get it to GA. We can help with some experience and help on all the format stuff and all that. It's actually a tough article to get to GA because of the sources. But people would just love it content wise!

- I've never gotten anything to GA before, so this would be new territory. But it would really be awesome to get it there; I think that is a great idea. Thanks for the links, Qrsdogg (talk) 15:06, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- It'll be fun to go get the wiki "hardware". I think you totally know what you are doing, but going through any kind of review, you get new learnings that are helpful in general article work. Biggest challenge will be digging out the content (for that subject)...but stoked that you are up for challenge. It's really gotten pushed along a bit already.
- P.s. I asked someone to go get a video for you if he gets out to Brennan's again. TCO (talk) 15:30, 24 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, you're right about reviews--it sounds like a good idea. BTW, congratulations on your Featured Article there--pretty impressive what you did there. Especially considering how hard to please featured article reviewers can be! Qrsdogg (talk) 16:02, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi. :) You seem to have done some good cleanup work on this article, but unfortunately it all seems like you inadvertently created a plagiarism issue when you removed quotation marks from the text "The Wall Street Journal's Bret Stephens pointed to the Mossad shark and other Arab conspiracy theories as an example of 'the debasement of the Arab mind.'" The whole thing was a quote from The Washington Post, who were quoting the Wall Street Journal. I know that {{cquote}} is not to be used in articles, but when removing it please make sure that all of the quote is properly marked. Thanks! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:54, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
- DOH! I deserve a trout for that, sorry. Qrsdogg (talk) 22:00, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Viktor Petrik
Question about inaccurate or poorly written comments and editorial remarks on the page for Professor Viktor Petrik. I noticed that you and one other member continue to edit hearsay and undocumented references to Petrik and continue to reinsert them once corrected. I personally have traveled to St. Petersburg and met Petrik; I have researched many of his claims along with some insight into the defamatory press that he has recently won his legal battle. There are 22 more such cases and according to the current court records it appears that Petrik has been able to substantiate each of his scientific claims.
I also can only find one person at the Russian Ministry of Science that had an interview with the WSJ - he was an administrator and not a scientist; I can't seem to find anyone else in the Ministry to support the claims that Petrik's work is "Pseudoscience".
I thought taking a little time to help with the edits might clear up some of the bad press.
So aside from the WSJ and other press that has now been proven in Russian court as defamation what other sources do you have to continue to push these claims.

Help with DYK?
Here's the DYK nomination for our article. It looks like the user, who's opposing the nomination does not understand the paradox. Could you help me to explain it to him? Thank you.--Mbz1 (talk) 22:44, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- You know, I can't say that I even understand Petergans' argument here. I'll see if I can get him to elaborate if he contests Broccolo's approval again. Qrsdogg (talk) 05:13, 13 February 2011 (UTC)
Another article
Hi Qrsdogg, I've started working on yet another article about logic. It probably will not be finished tonight, maybe tomorrow, maybe later on, but the question is, if you'd be interested in helping me out with this one too? It is perfectly alright, if you'd rather not. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 03:35, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, always glad to help. Although I did get rebuked the other day for misusing a semi-colon--so my grammatical skills actually might leave some to be desired. Qrsdogg (talk) 03:59, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Here it is. BTW my work on the articles concerning philosophy reminded me a saying that my philosophy professor shared with me: "A philosopher is a person, who is looking for a black cat, in a dark room, and the cat is not even there." Now I understand what he meant :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 21:48, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- That's a good expression, I'll have to remember that. Perhaps a philosophical physicist would be someone who is looking for Schrödinger's cat in the dark? Qrsdogg (talk) 22:06, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I took a couple passes at it. Looks good to me, great job with the refs. I didn't find this one quite as confusing as Pinocchio thankfully. The only comment I have is that the quotations from Cervantes are somewhat long. Perhaps you could summarize part of the quote and then quote fewer lines? I don't know what the guidelines in the MOS are about this kind of thing though. Qrsdogg (talk) 00:20, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- I removed a big quote. I thought about this myself too, but then I decided it is better to let Cervantes to do the job. :-)

- Why did you say that Pinocchio is confusing. Please do ask me, if you do not understand something. This will help us to improve the article. - Here's DYK. May I please ask you, if you could think of the better hook or fixing English in my hook, please do it. Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 03:32, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- I just touched up the hook a bit. I guess with the Pinocchio article it took me longer to really get the concept down and this article was much easier. Then the controversy about semantics on the template talk page confused me further. But overall I think the article is understandable. Qrsdogg (talk) 15:22, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, what do you think about the image I added to the article? Any idea about another image and/or changing this one somehow?--Mbz1 (talk) 16:12, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks a pretty nice picture actually. It's pretty big though, perhaps some of the mountains at the top could be cropped out? Qrsdogg (talk) 16:16, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- I thought about this too, but as a photographer I felt sorry cutting off those beautiful mountains. I'd rather them stay at least for now, although I agree that because of them the actual subject of the image looks rather small.--Mbz1 (talk) 16:23, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

- Wow, that was quick! Thanks for your help there. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:09, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
New article
Hi Qrsdogg, if you have a time, maybe you could help to copy-edit a small article Despina Storch. There's no logic involved with this one, so should not be as hard as with the others, but if you'd rather not, it will be perfectly alright. Best.--Mbz1 (talk) 21:02, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- Looks like a pretty neat article there, not sure if I'll have time to work on it today but I'll try to do some work on it tonight or tomorrow. At least you won't have to worry about anyone deleting this article, per Wikipedia:HOTTIE. Qrsdogg (talk) 21:11, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
- No worries, the hook was promoted on DYK already. I guess I should let you more time to work on your own articles. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:28, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Well, since it was an interesting article I figured I'd take a look at it. I used the Serial comma and U.S. instead of US--I don't know what your take on those conventions is. Also I noticed that a few times you used "the authorities" without specifically explaining who they were (CIA, FBI, DoJ, DoD, PTA?). Not sure if the sources were specific about that or not. It was a good read though, must have been a fun one to write. Qrsdogg (talk) 18:30, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Only look what you've done to my article :-) Thank you for fixing it for me! I believe the authorities were from the Department of Justice. I did enjoy to write this article. I've always liked real life romantic spy's stories, and now, when I myself unwillingly got involved in one (not romantic at all, but definitely a real life wikipedia's spy/hacker story) it was even more interesting to work on the article. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 19:20, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- You're welcome, glad to help. Now that I think about it, the CIA couldn't've been involved since they weren't around back then. The FBI was pretty new as well. Guess it had to be the DoJ then.

- No worries, I'll be just fine :-) Please take a look at image I took today .--Mbz1 (talk) 20:12, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that is just incredible. You have an amazing talent there. It's 28F where I live so that's a nice reminder for me that spring is coming, eventually. Qrsdogg (talk) 20:19, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you, I live in San Francisco, no real winter here. I'm missing snow.--Mbz1 (talk) 21:40, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm sure I would miss all the snow if I ever moved to a warmer climate. The San Francisco winters must be much milder than the ones in Russia, for sure! Qrsdogg (talk) 23:23, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
- I do miss the snow, but California is a wonderful place, where one could surf and then go downhill skying at the very same day. I used to do lot's of downhill skying, but a few years ago I broken my shoulder, and my husband said: "No more skying". So now we still go to see the snow, but I do not ski anymore :( This image was taken this very winter. The place is about 3 hours drive from where we live.--Mbz1 (talk) 17:01, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- Pretty remarkable how varied of a climate you can find after driving for a few hours like that. That is quite the picture of the van there, I wonder how long it would take to shovel that out? I saw some cars almost completely covered like that in Cambridge, MA after the big snowstorms a few weeks ago. They have some narrow side streets there and after they plow the cars are just covered. Like this except there were two feet of snow on top of the car as well. It's kinda ironic though, that I live near some great skiing areas but never bother skiing. Oh well, driving in a blizzard gives me the same thrill as skiing sometimes. Qrsdogg (talk) 17:16, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- I could imagine driving in a blizzard could be a thrill. I have never done it. In Soviet Union I had no car, and here, the roads in Sierra are closed, when there is a blizzard. But sometimes I was a passenger on a ski bus on mountain roads in Soviet Union in a blizzard. It was scary, especially in two places. We called the first place "I love you, life", and the second one: "Life, I love you even more". I started skiing, when I lived in Soviet Union. I did ski Elbrus, Cheget, in the area of Dombai, and many other places. Once I went skiing to Arctic (crossed the Arctic Polar circle). It was fun. BTW I see we have no article about Cheget. It is one amazing mount. Maybe one day I'll write an article about it. I have lots of pictures from this beautiful place. And now it is time to let you do something else. Enjoyed talking to you.--Mbz1 (talk) 19:55, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that is cool. Thanks for the story. Qrsdogg (talk) 19:57, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

DYK for North Church (Portsmouth, New Hampshire)
On 21 February 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article North Church (Portsmouth, New Hampshire), which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the spire of North Church has been called Portsmouth, New Hampshire's "landmark of record"? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. DYK for Buridan's bridge
On 22 February 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Buridan's bridge, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that a humorous solution for the Buridan's bridge sophism is that Plato should let Socrates cross the bridge and then throw him into the river on the other side? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. New article
Hi Qrsdogg, we've done so good on other articles about logic, so I thought you might be interested to take a look at a new one. If you have no time, it is perfectly alright. Best wishes.--Mbz1 (talk) 20:41, 27 February 2011 (UTC)
- Alright, I'll try to check it out later tonight unless something comes up. I love the title, almost as good as Colorless green ideas sleep furiously.
- BTW, I saw the proceedings at ANI earlier. It sometimes amazes me the stuff that some people do around here. Qrsdogg (talk) 00:05, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yeah, if somebody would have ever told me that my computer would be hacked, that I'd get emails from somebody, who pretended to be my gmail service, and then I'd get email from somebody, who pretended to be to be a member of Arbcom, and then that a respected wikipedia user would believe that those emails were obtained somehow legally, and all of this would be connected to my editing of wikipedia, I would have never ever believed it is possible, but it happened right in front of my eyes. Maybe I should write an article about this one :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 00:46, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- lol, that would make some good reading.

- Ok, I tried to clean up some of the grammar and trim some long sentences. Hope that I didn't change the meaning of anything. This is a tricky article to explain in detail, though. I'll reread it again later and see if there is anything that still confuses me.
- This sentence "but men (well, most men anyway) are not donkeys" made me laugh. It works better if you substitute "ass" for "donkey" though. Qrsdogg (talk) 01:08, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Looks good!
- BTW I was about to substitute "ass" for "donkey" as you suggested, when I noticed you removed my funny, well thought sentence altogether :( Oh, well...Never, never, never again I will ask you to fix my article :-) Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 01:47, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
- Oh did I? I get so excited when I'm copyediting I get real carried away sometimes... Qrsdogg (talk) 01:53, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

New Hampshire Maine rivalry
I was happy to nominate your article at DYK -- and I did check two or three times to make sure you hadn't nominated it already. There's a bit of hook drought at DYK, so you have any other recent creations to offer, the time is right... --Orlady (talk) 03:03, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
- Trying to expand an article 5x at the moment, only have doubled it though... I need to learn to write faster. Qrsdogg (talk) 03:07, 1 March 2011 (UTC)
DYK for New Hampshire–Maine hockey rivalry
On 1 March 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article New Hampshire–Maine hockey rivalry, which you created or substantially expanded. So what say you?
about proposed hook for this article "Did you know... that the security forces of Jordanian town of Jafr were not able to locate the aliens flying saucers that were reported to be able to make a successful landing in a desert close to the town on April 1, 2010?"
- Oh man, that is a funny article. H. G. Wells would be proud. You could go in a number of different directions with the hook, though. Perhaps something along the lines of:... that the mayor of Jafr, Jordan organized a vigilante force to take part in an epic battle against an invading force of giant space warriors? Qrsdogg (talk) 23:32, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I moved it to the main space Jafr alien invasion, and added an image. If you have a time and wish, could you please copy edit it? If you do not, that's perfectly fine. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 23:39, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- I'll give it a quick once over, and try not to change any content. Qrsdogg (talk) 23:42, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- OK. I believe you. After all today is March 2, and not April 1. Just don't get "carried away" this time :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 23:47, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think that was the most fun I've ever had copy editing in my life. I tried not to change any content, but you may want to double check that everything is well sourced. It doesn't look like we have articles on the town or the paper strangely enough though. Qrsdogg (talk) 00:06, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you!Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 00:14, 3 March 2011 (UTC)

Here we go again
Flying penguins. After I posted the article I note that an article with the same name was deleted 3 times. I hope this one is here to stay. Of course it will look better, if you are to copy edit it :-), but if you do, may I please ask you to do it before it gets deleted :-) Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 06:20, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that is another good article. I don't know how you come up with these. It looks like I might not have too much on-wiki time over the next couple days so I don't think I'll be able to help much on this one, sorry. Qrsdogg (talk) 14:27, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Jafr alien invasion
Hello! Your submission of Jafr alien invasion at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Royalbroil 14:21, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- My concerns are more on the minor side and should be addressable (especially April Fool's Day suggestion). On a side note, I really enjoyed the shovel racing article that you started! I was just talking someone yesterday about wanting to watch shovel racing. I read the article recently and was inspired enough to find free images on flickr. Royalbroil 14:21, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the help on the pictures, glad that you liked it. After several years of reading Wikipedia and not writing anything, the fact that we didn't have an article on something as awesome as Shovel Racing made me get involved. Qrsdogg (talk) 14:58, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
A new day, a new article
Yes, I know you are busy, but just to share here's my latest article: Monty the meerkat. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:37, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that is one hilarious picture you found there. Qrsdogg (talk) 04:33, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Found? I made it myself out of 3 images taken by 3 different people at three different times and in three different places.--Mbz1 (talk) 04:36, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- I just thought of this joke for some reason :) Qrsdogg (talk) 04:47, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I see :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 04:55, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Actually it did fool me the first time I read the article. Then I looked a little more closely and figured it out. Oh well, keep the articles coming-Wikipedia is not paper and its not running out of room (contrary to what you might hear in some AFD discussions these days). Qrsdogg (talk) 05:03, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Somebody said it is doubtful my Flying penguins will "withstand an AfD" :(. Is it really so bad?--Mbz1 (talk) 05:09, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- I might have to disagree with Mr. Baker there, articles about cute things like flying penguins are notable by default. I mean, how can anyone look at this and then try to delete the article. Besides, you won the last deletion debate you got into so you're on a roll. And you did it without the Article Rescue Squad too, pretty impressive work there. Qrsdogg (talk) 05:18, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, Adelies are cute, aren't they? When I went to Antarctica I had only a film camera on me, but I am proud that two of my images taken with my old film camera are still used in the article. I have many good and even more interesting(unique) images taken in a very remote places, but I have no good scanner (actually I have no scanner at all), and I am not going to get one. So, if I want to upload my old image, I'm simply taking a picture of a picture using my digital camera. Of course it results in a bad quality images :( BTW have you seen how popular our Pinocchio paradox is? Best.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:01, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
- I would love to go to Antarctica, that must be amazing. You got some pretty good pictures of the Adelies there.

- Well, unless something will change, you should hurry up to get an icebreaker tour to Ross Sea. They are going to have the last one in less than a year. Of course you still could go to Antarctic Peninsula. BTW, at first I did not want to go to Antarctica, my plans were to go only to South Georgia Islands, so I called a travel agent, and asked her, if they have a tour to South Georgia, and she said: "No, but we have tours to North Carolina" :-) Then I understood I'd be better off looking for the tours that go to Antarctica and South Georgia together. So, it is how I got to Antarctica for the first time. Best.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:22, 6 March 2011 (UTC)

Congrats on the DYKs
You are really racking a lot up. Kudos, man!TCO (talk) 02:41, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I have a fun time taking something obscure and getting a bunch of views for it. I don't quite deserve all the credit for these, some of them I just copy-edited for a non-native English speaker who appended me as a co-creator afterwards.
- I just showed somebody your article on State Bats today, turns out they have a phobia of bats-whoops! Anyway, I'm feeling like a "rampage around on a content creation path" these days, myself. Trying to get Thomas Jefferson Hogg up to next, I'd love if you could take a look at it sometime and see if any obvious issues jump out at you. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:52, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
A wrong version?
Hi Qrsdogg, may I please ask you what did you mean here? You too believe that the article should have been tagged? Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 03:00, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Oh that was a little humor. Someone was complaining that they thought it was wrong of the admin to protect the version without the tags at the top and I linked to a joke page at Meta that said something along the lines of "Admins always protect the wrong version". Of course, by the end I started to entertain the thought that the tagger was possibly acting in "no-so-great faith" by tagging the article without an explanation why. I know, I am becoming quite the cynic. (forgive me Jimbo!)
- Rest assured I've never seen anyone dump a bunch of silly templates on a article linked from the main page like that before, and hopefully I won't see that again until the day that I wiki-die. If someone did that to an article that I had written I probably would have been rather peeved, to tell you the truth. Oh well, in any case, I'm sure you made a lot of people smile when they read the story. Qrsdogg (talk) 03:15, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you! I assure you I did not really care that it was done to the article I written. I cared that it was done to Wikipedia , to Scott Southworth, and Ala'a. I am 100% sure, when Scott adopted the boy he did not do it for "propaganda" When I was writing the article I did not do it for propaganda. Ah, anyway... I'd better do not get started... - Agreed, I know a girl with CP who immigrated to the U.S. from a really poor part of Africa. An American charity paid for her family to move to the U.S. and get settled in an so on. Next time I see her I'll have to tell her she is a case of "nationalistic propaganda". Qrsdogg (talk) 04:11, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

- Ok, I just took a quick pass at it. The hooks you suggested look like more regular DYK hooks than April 1st hooks, might have to brainstorm some tricky way to phrase it.

- Yes, a few people from Oregon and California were taken by tsunami, but 6 were rescued, and one, 25 years old man was killed. There are lots of damage in Santa Cruz, like around 17 millions dollars. It is very scary what Nature could, and how powerless people are do. They knew about that tsunami coming to Santa Cruz many hours in advance, but no property could have been protected. Of course it is great nobody got killed there.--Mbz1 (talk) 23:07, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

What is the GNG?
In a recent AFD on an article about a SCOTUS case, you wrote "Nominator seems to be unfamiliar with the GNG." Can you educate me as to what "the GNG" is? Thanx. --Pseudo-Richard (talk) 03:56, 22 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I tend to use a ton of initials. I was referring to the General notability guideline. I think in that case the nominator had said something to the effect of the case being a minor one compared to most SCOTUS cases as his rationale for deletion. My thinking was that he misunderstood notability, thinking that it was relative to other topics in the same category as the article (thinking the case was less important than a lot of things the court has done) rather than whether it measured up to the "GNG". I think the "GNG" is generally all that needs to be considered at AFD, except when it comes to news events (WP:NOTNEWS) or people who have gotten coverage for one act (WP:BLP1E).
- Hope this clears up my thinking here. I always welcome questions about my thinking process after I've weighed in on a discussion. Qrsdogg (talk) 14:40, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Renton Nicholson
Hello! Your submission of Renton Nicholson at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. The expansion is not quite 5x, but because of the length of the article and how much you improved it I am willing to overlook it. I expressed my opinion and asked for a second opinion. Reviewer granted
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.

- Thanks, I had fun working on it. I hadn't worked on anything Mexican or art related in the past, but I saw an article about the museum in the paper and then checked our page one it. I was really shocked that a major art museum like that with a ton of coverage was just a small stub. It's really amazing how much systemic bias shows up in some areas on here. New article
Hi Qrsdogg, I wonder, if you have a time and a wish to copy-edit my new article. It could make a funny DYK something like this ...that the Ball is located in Lower Swell at Dikler? :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 23:58, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll take a look at it--doesn't look too long :) I am pretty tired out right now, I was at the Boston Marathon today and watching everyone run really made me tired. Qrsdogg (talk) 00:35, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Now it is funny. I'm only left to imagine how tired would you have been, if you run that Marathon yourself :-)
- Thanks for willingness to help me with that.--Mbz1 (talk) 00:48, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- That was a pretty neat article, very interesting. A couple things: a. Sorry I removed the Humpty Dumpty reference, that was very funny though; b. the last section could use some more explanation, "Whittlestone once belonged to immovable megaliths". What is Whittlestone? That's the first time it's mentioned in the article (cool story though).
- I've had five relatives run the Boston Marathon over the years, so I've been going there almost every year for over 20 years now. While it may still be tiring to watch it, it is certainly less painful! Qrsdogg (talk) 01:15, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help, but I did not understand why did you remove a part of the legend about the all King's men and the all King's horses who cannot move it? It is sourced by this source. Whittlestone is a stone, that apparently was used at an ancient burial site, they have few around Lower Swell. I might add something about the burial cites tomorrow. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:14, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't realize that was from the source-I just thought that it was a peculiar rhetorical flourish :) Qrsdogg (talk) 02:19, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- So you thought I invented that myself, and it is what you called "Humpty Dumpty"? BTW what does "Humpty Dumpty" means?--Mbz1 (talk) 02:22, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Humpty Dumpty is a children's rhyme that contains the phrase "All the king's horses and all the king's men". I thought you were trying to stick that phrase into the article just to be funny. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:25, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- How could have you thought that I will ever insert in the article Humpty Dumpty just to make it funny?!?! Am I really so bad?!?! Well, I guess I am :-) but shhh, please tell nobody because my topic ban is never going to be lifted, if administrators will find out I'd stop at nothing to make an article funnier :-)
- On a more serious note after you explained to me what is Humpty Dumpty,I realized the only thing I know about English, and American's culture is that I know nothing :( --Mbz1 (talk) 02:34, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- It would be a real shame if they ever tried to topic-ban you from "funny articles". There actually was a user banned for being too funny last year though. Oh well, don't worry about the intricacies of Anglo-American culture, Wikipedia is probably the best resource on earth for catching up on such things! Qrsdogg (talk) 02:52, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I am not familiar with this user's case, but I will take a look. Thanks for pointing this out to me, I've already had a good laugh over his user's name. Sadly it proved to be true.Looks like he's not coming back.
- What in your opinion will be a good DYK hook for our new article? Of course if the hook will be as the one I offered in the beginning or at least "... that Lower Swell is located at the banks of Dikler?", it is sure to generate a good traffic, but... --Mbz1 (talk) 03:27, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- I think "... that Lower Swell is located at the banks of Dikler?" is probably better, it's a bit shorter after all. I tend to like concise hooks generally, but that's just me. I doubt the censors will have a problem with it, but you never know... Qrsdogg (talk) 03:31, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

- So you thought I invented that myself, and it is what you called "Humpty Dumpty"? BTW what does "Humpty Dumpty" means?--Mbz1 (talk) 02:22, 19 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't realize that was from the source-I just thought that it was a peculiar rhetorical flourish :) Qrsdogg (talk) 02:19, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

A new new article
Here it is. Is this something that you'd like to help me with? --Mbz1 (talk) 04:44, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'll see if I can do some work on it later today or tonight. My first thought is that you might be able to split the article into two: one on the book and one on the sculpture itself. Qrsdogg (talk) 14:49, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I took a quick look at it, very interesting article. Qrsdogg (talk) 01:10, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you! I'd rather not to split it. Could you come up with a DYK hook for it, please?--Mbz1 (talk) 04:35, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, there are a lot of possibilities here. The first that comes to mind is ...that Ghada Amer was inspired to create the Encyclopedia of Pleasure sculpture after reading an account of Lesbian sex from the Islamic Golden Age? Maybe you could wikilink lesbian or lesbian sex or something, but use your best judgement on that. Qrsdogg (talk) 14:03, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I like this hook, but I do not believe we have a source that specifically mentions lesbian sex as an inspiration for the work. So here's the hook I came up with. Please feel free to edit it. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:34, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, that works just as well. Qrsdogg (talk) 16:23, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

Re: Edits to Edward Trelawny
Orsdogg: Please note: When someone is quoting material about Edward Trelawny taken from St Clair, care should be taken. St Clair invented many derogatory items about Trelawny, which lacked citations. As to material from Armstrong, since she believed Trelawny’s Adventures were real, when quoting her one is actually quoting something from Trelawny’s own writings. Another copy-edit?
Hi Qrsdogg, here's my new article: Start-up Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle. Would you be interested in copy-editing it? It's perfectly alright, if you have no time. I will ask somebody else then. Cheers.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:42, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'll try to check it out, I think I'll have time later today. Qrsdogg (talk) 13:12, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- I believe somebody else fixed it already. Of course an extra check is good, if you have a time. I am having strange problems on DYK for it. --Mbz1 (talk) 13:33, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia really can be pretty strange occasionally, I sometimes wonder what Kafka would think of this place.

- Anyway, that's a pretty interesting book you wrote about there, I might have to read it sometime. I used to work for an American company that was founded by an Israeli who came to the U.S. for Grad School after he left Sayeret Matkal. Qrsdogg (talk) 13:41, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- If Kafka, ever wrote an article about what he thinks about this place, all his works would have been blacklisted on wikipedia forever :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 15:37, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- lol, that would be pretty funny. Qrsdogg (talk) 15:39, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Funny? No, it would be sad.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:46, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- No, I mean the thought of Kafka writing articles about Wikipedia is funny to think about. Speaking of Kafka, I think you might enjoy this. And speaking of funny, I just saw this redirect. Qrsdogg (talk) 15:51, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- Both are great, funny links! "Properly follow a proper protocol" :-) Yes, it is Kafka.
- BTW it reminded me my own Kafka's experience with US emigration department. I went there to get my green card. I was told I have to go to room #12a, sit on a green chair, and listen until my name is called on the radio. There was no room #12a there, but there was room #12. I knocked the door, an angry lady came out, and before I was able to open my mouth to ask a question, she pointed me out to the sign at the door. The sign stated: "Do not ask questions about room #12a" :-)I guess, if I am blocked, no, not for writing this article, but for nominating it on DYK, I'd spend my time re-reading Kafka :-)
- I hope the editor who named that article did not get sanctioned.--Mbz1 (talk) 16:17, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- That is really incredible, I am so glad that I haven't had to deal with the immigration departments. Pretty much everyone I know who immigrated to the U.S. has horror stories about the bureaucracy there.

If it is moved to main space, what category should it go to, "humors essay"? BTW, if I am to get sanctioned for writing this essay, then it would be a really good confirmation of "properly follow a proper policy" :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 03:39, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

DYK: Jihadi tourism
What do you think about removing the word "popular"? I'm a big fan of short. Short = hits. The word could also be contested, although that's not likely.
...that popular destinations for Jihadi tourism have included a war museum and Somali terrorist training sites?
Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:57, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Sad
It is very sad, but an essay that we wrote is proven to be true yet another time--Mbz1 (talk) 14:46, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- I actually saw that thread and wrote up a comment but then (wisely, I think) decided against hitting save. Suffice to say, I think you aren't the only one around here who has contributed content that is "likely to gravely offend a large percentage of conservative Muslims"! Qrsdogg (talk) 14:53, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Honestly, it is not the response I was hoping for. No Muslim would be offended by Sayyida al Hurra. This lady belonging to Muslims is something to be proud about for any Muslim, no matter how conservative one is. Encyclopedia of Pleasure was written as a tribute to the history of Islam and a great Muslim sculptor,Orphans' Decree is a part of the history, and it is well known that "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it." But the matter not even in this. What some users want to do is to censor wikipedia, to silence a free speech. It really reminds me communist Soviet Union that I despised so much.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:43, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, it really is disappointing sometimes. I was pretty surprised to see the opposition to those, as well: the first two seem pro-Islam to me and I don't see what the problem with encyclopedic treatment of forced conversion could be. Oh well, this place is pretty confusing sometimes. Qrsdogg (talk) 15:50, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- That post on Gato's page reminded me a story I read somewhere about a lady, who, when she learned about Darwin's theory of evolution, prayed like this: "O God, please make this theory to be untrue, and,if it is true, please make as less people as possible to find out about it." It is sad that the users that think like that lady want to enforce censorship on wikipedia. Whatever...--Mbz1 (talk) 16:52, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
- Good quote about Darwin's theory. Sounds like phrase from Woe from Wit: "uz koli zlo presech', sobrat' vse knigi by da zhech" ("if we really want to get rid of the evil, let's collect and burn all books").
A wikipedia version: "people trying to use DYK as a weapon in propaganda warfare" [5]. Assuming that DYK describes interesting facts, this is an attitude of comrade Ogurtsov. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 23:16, 2 May 2011 (UTC)- Yes, this is getting pretty bizarre very quickly. I have a hard time taking this place seriously when people describe Jafr alien invasion as "promoting 'one side of any ongoing dispute.'" Are UFO hoaxes part of an ongoing dispute now? (Although, for the record, I am not accusing the complainers of acting in bad faith) Qrsdogg (talk) 23:41, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- I did not notice at first that person who criticized Mbz1 for alleged soapboxing was herself a
professionalpolitical blogger(read "propagandist"). Same problems with at least two other bloggers I met here. But this is only natural: people tend to associate themselves to another person and think: "she did it for precisely the same reason I would do the same". There is a psychologist trick: "Look at the picture of this boy, and tell me what he likes", and a subject starts telling about himself, rather than about the boy on the picture. An example from this unfriendly environment: "he did it to provoke you" (which means only "I would do this to provoke you"). This way of judging others is frequently wrong, especially when people came from different cultures. In fact, a typical person from Russia, US or North Caucasus could react very differently to the same.

- Now back to the point. Mbz1 actions are a classic example of reaction to an obstacle by a person of her temperament. Consider someone who was asked to come to room 13 and pick up his parcel. He comes and sees the door to the room locked and no one around (something like topic ban). Here are first instinctive reactions of four temperaments (although they can act differently after thinking a while). Phlegmatic (weak, stable) like me: go back, return later, and do not think about it. Melancholic (weak, unstable): go back in frustration and never return. Choleric (strong, unstable) : hit and break the door, e.g. by creating socks. A sanguinic (strong, stable): look for the key or people around. Hodja Nasreddin (talk) 14:13, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia really allows for some fascinating observations about the way people interact and react to each other. (But I think it's usually a bad idea to discuss other contributors on 3rd party talk pages.) Also, every time I interact with a Wikipedian who has their own article, for a moment I feel like I'm talking to a celebrity :) Qrsdogg (talk) 14:56, 3 May 2011 (UTC)
- She does not like debating that kind of things on her talk page, but she can probably read it here. Main point: no one is evil. Just in case, there is no any article about me, except this. <--This is really offensive and unpleasant. I have never been a "professional political blogger" nor am I a propagandist. Please redact the false claim. And take a look at my blog if you want and see for yourself how much propaganda you can find in there: http://betsydevine.com/blog/
I have an engineering degree and attained a tiny degree of notability, maybe the quantum minimum of notability for a Wikipedia article, by coauthoring a couple of books that were, in my own opinion, pretty darn good. As for the hypothetical motivation of the many people (NOT just Mbz1) who have been tag-teaming each other's articles through DYK despite POV issues -- their motivation is irrelevant to the question of whether DYK should tamely let them flaunt its policy, which is that both articles and hooks must be NPOV.
Is it so hard to believe that somebody wants Wikipedia to follow its own policies? Does somebody who says that articles should be NPOV before we point to them from our front page have to have a secret evil motivation? DYK has a lot of policies besides NPOV -- is it "censorship" that DYK is only for new articles and puts length restrictions on them? betsythedevine (talk) 03:11, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia needs people of all political and religious orientations to contribute, that's part of what makes this place great. (Also, I was genuinely surprised to learn that you're a well known author, I meant no sarcasm by referring to you as a celebrity.) Qrsdogg (talk) 03:20, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- Also, your blog looks pretty good and it's awesome to learn that you're a fellow New Hampshire native. Qrsdogg (talk) 03:22, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Jihadi tourism
Hello! Your submission of Jihadi tourism at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Welcome to the club :-)
Now instead of just writing an article I decided first to ask for permission to write one. Who knows, if I would be allowed to write such an article :-) My guess is "no" :(, but I still have a small hope.--Mbz1 (talk) 01:34, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds like the perfect model of inter-religious unity! But here's a question, if EdJohnston says "Ask Gatoclass" and then Gatoclass says "Ask EdJohnston", what should you do? Qrsdogg (talk) 01:42, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'm working on a nice boring article now: Phonocentrism. No controversy there, not yet at least! Qrsdogg (talk) 02:00, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- It is a nice article you're writing, and what is even more important, there's not going to be any controversy about it.
- About the article I was going to write... Well... looks like that poor silly medieval poet, who could not find a better subject to write poems about, would not get his day under the sun on Wikipedia's main page :( Bad for him! I am sure, if back in the middle twelve hundreds he knew about Wikipedia, about DYK, about User :Ohiostandard and user:Betsythedevine, he would have chosen a different topic for his poems, but now it sems too late :-)--Mbz1 (talk) 04:11, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- I never complained about your "Sexy Muslim chicks" articles. It was OhioStandard who suggested you might be trying to be intentionally provocative. Now I wonder, though, if he was right about that and I was mistaken in thinking he was wrong. Taunting other editors by name in your posts and edit summaries is rarely a helpful part of building an encyclopedia. betsythedevine (talk) 11:05, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- No wonder you have never complained about my "Sexy Muslim chicks" (what a vulgar language D:)articles.I have never wrote one. Oh, and BTW, you complained about my other three articles and here at this very page you said they got promoted by my friends. If it is not so much to ask for, could you please provide the differences of my "tag team" that promoted my articles you mentioned on DYK talk page, and if you cannot provide such difference, would it be to much to ask you to strike out the comment, and give it another thought before making a false accusations against me ever again?--Mbz1 (talk) 12:14, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- Morning everyone, without commenting on the nature of your dispute--perhaps there is another forum rather than my talk page that this could be continued? Qrsdogg (talk) 13:10, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. It was betsythedevine, who followed me to two threads on your page, but I will not post here anymore. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 13:13, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, Q -- I read a lot of interesting talk pages and always enjoy yours. So -- how about those Red Sox? Can you do some time traveling and make a prediction? Where in NH are you from? I grew up in Manchester, which was a wonderful place to be a little kid way back when. betsythedevine (talk) 14:45, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I predict that I'll soon get blocked for vandalizing our page on the New York Yankees! (or maybe not). I'm actually from a quiet part of Rockingham Country, so Manchester was a big city to me growing up. I spend a lot of time driving down to Cambridge now. I used to work there, but now I just go down get to Central Square for felafel and all. Qrsdogg (talk) 15:51, 4 May 2011 (UTC)

Request
Hi, I wonder if you could find more sourcing to write an article about this man? Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:23, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Interesting, it looks like Oskar Eder is now Dr. Asher Eder, and it looks like he has written several works on Israel-Islam relations. That looks like a pretty substantial biography from an academic publishing house, I turned up a few other sources online: [7][8][9][10][11][12]
- You know, there might be enough information to justify a List of Nazi Converts to Judaism, or maybe List of Jews descended from Nazis or something. [13][14] It would probably end up being a really contentious article though. Qrsdogg (talk) 16:09, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks I looked at the sources you found, and realized I am not allowed to write an article about this man because of my topic ban. So, if you are interested in writing this article, please feel free to do it, if not I guess this man will not have an article about him on wikipedia.
- About lists you suggested, no, it is not for me I am afraid. --Mbz1 (talk) 16:18, 15 May 2011 (UTC)
- Oh yes, good catch. I didn't even think of that. Qrsdogg (talk) 16:45, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

While I am sad to see you go, I know that this place can take quite the toll on people--and you've been here longer than most. Translation
Sure. Below I've pasted the original Portuguese text and translation for reference, and I've noted my changes to the machine translation in bold.
Machine Translation: "weev", one of the members of the group, has been quoted in other areas of the Gawker Media group, which broke the news as "exclusive." He, like other members, is part of GNAA, the Association of Black Gay America. "These are people who spend most of their time online trying to accomplish" hazing "or trolls. Among the members of the group, and a principal of the GNAA, is a developer of Linux Debian." former president "of the GNAA, TimeCop, the Internet is known for being part of Dattebayo - fans who performed translations of Japanese cartoons Naruto and Bleach."
Revision: Weev (1), one of the members of the group, has been quoted in other publications (2) of the Gawker Media group, which broke the news as "exclusive." He, like other members, is part of the GNAA, the Gay Nigger Association of America (3). These are people who spend much of their time online trolling and carrying out practical jokes. One of the principal members of the GNAA is a developer of Linux Debian. The "ex-president" of the GNAA, timecop (1), is known on the internet for being part of Dattebayo, a group of fans who translated the Japanese cartoons Naruto and Bleach."
(1) Are these like online screen names? If so, I'd still capitalize "weev" at the beginning of the sentence, and "timecop" shouldn't have had a case change in the translation. Also, either all of them or none of them should be surrounded by quotes. I chose to remove the quotation marks because more of the names appeared without them than with them. However, if you think it's better to use the quotes, just make sure they all have them.
(2) This seems like the best translation of the word to me, but do you have more of the original text so I can verify it through context?
(3) That was a literal translation of the group's name into Portuguese and then another literal translation back out, so it just got mixed up in the process.
Armadillopteryxtalk 03:08, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
- Wow, that was quick, thanks. weev is always lowercase, even our article on him has a lowercase title. This is the source, odd about the quotations. Funny thing, most English language papers won't print there name, so we had to track down a non-English source. I guess this will work though, thanks! Qrsdogg (talk) 03:09, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's no problem; I'm glad to help. Okay, so keep weev lowercased and lose the quotes. It's somewhat common in the Brazilian media to put quotes around totally random, unfamiliar English words, but since we know it's just an online alias, there's no need to do that here. After reading the source article, I'd say you can either stick with "publications," change it to "materials" (which is a little more literal but also more vague in English, so maybe not the best option), or change things up a bit and say something like: weev, one of the members of the group, has been quoted by Gawker Media, which broke the news as "exclusive." Actually, either way, I think you should shorten "of the Gawker Media group" to "by Gawker Media." The extra words were more necessary for description in the original Portuguese, but they're unnecessary and clunky here. Armadillopteryxtalk 04:11, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, that makes sense to me. I've tweaked the translation a bit. Qrsdogg (talk) 04:27, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

On 19 June 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article A Banda Mais Bonita da Cidade, which you recently nominated. The fact was ... that Brazilian band A Banda Mais Bonita da Cidade was little known until one of its music videos went viral, attracting international media attention? If you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Thanks
Thanks for adding those references to Sam Barry (tennis). I'd been meaning to do that myself since I voted keep in the AfD, but it had completely slipped my mind. Cheers, Jenks24 (talk) 16:36, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, thanks for finding them! Qrsdogg (talk) 16:47, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
question
Qrsdogg, I am not sure I will be up to it, but if I am to write a DYK for April Fools's Day now, where is the place to add it for consideration? Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 19:29, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, I think you can submit it at Wikipedia:April Fool's Main Page/Did You Know, there are five or so there already. I hope you will be up to it, you've come up with some real gems in the past! I was thinking of maybe trying to expand Timothy Dexter when I get some time, he'd make quite the AFD hook. Qrsdogg (talk) 20:01, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Timothy Dexter should make a good hook.
- I have not finished this article yet, but I wonder, if you'd be willing to copy-edit it Ships lost in San Francisco? There are a few names of the ships that could be used for April Fools' Day DYK. --Mbz1 (talk) 04:54, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
- Looks interesting, I'll try to help out with it tomorrow. Qrsdogg (talk) 05:11, 26 June 2011 (UTC)
- The DYK is here. Please feel free edit the hooks, and/or suggest another one. Regards.--Mbz1 (talk) 17:51, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

One more question
Qrsdogg, could you please tell me, if there is a place, where I could see DYK hooks for last years Halloween? Thanks.--Mbz1 (talk) 05:16, 27 June 2011 (UTC)
- I think this is what you're looking for. There were some Halloween appropriate ones, nothing about haunted shipwrecks though... Qrsdogg (talk) 13:46, 27 June 2011 (UTC)

- Thanks for the heads up, but I probably won't pursue the issue further. If she won't take my advice on how to construct a draft that is more likely to survive AfD then I'm not going to fight her on it. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:48, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

At The Bridge (2006 drama) you used a script to replace & ndash ; with a literal dash. The & ndash ; renders correctly on modern browsers on all systems, whereas the literal character may not, depending on the user's system's character set. I think. What's the basis of your choice of dash? --Lexein (talk) 05:53, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- I hadn't really thought about that aspect, I had heard Greg's script recommended for MOS/Dash compliance and I noticed there were some hyphens being misused in the article. Feel free to revert me if you like. Qrsdogg (talk) 15:19, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

New article - new afd
I wrote an article Erotically shaped plants. It would have made a great April Fools' Day DYK, like: "did you know that under certain light conditions penises could be grown in a pot?" It would have brought thousands of readers and maybe some money to wikipedia, but sure enough it was nominated on deletion, and I doubt it will survive. So read it now, while it is still here. It is just one funny article.--Mbz1 (talk) 01:47, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up, that is a very interesting article--it's hard not to laugh when you see the title. I'll see if I can find any decent sources, but I'll tread carefully at the AfD lest someone claim I was canvassed. That being said, to get Peter pepper to DYK as a 5x expansion would only require getting it up to ~600 words or so--not totally out of reach. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:24, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I thought to go with Peter pepper, but I was not able to find enough information, especially reliable one to expand it 5x. Ah whatever, in the end everything is going to be gone, and only tiredness of this place is to stay although it will be nice, if you could find something, sources I mean. --Mbz1 (talk) 03:06, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, did a cursory search, and this is a tough topic to get stuff on. We are having a heat wave where I live, and it is totally sapping my energy, so I'll claim that as an excuse for my wiki-laziness. One thought though, you might consider asking Flyer22 for help. She's pretty much the expert on sexuality related articles around here. Qrsdogg (talk) 03:20, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- It is a pity to miss in such good hook. Maybe you would be able to find sources for Peter Pepper, Capsicum annuum var. annuum? As I said, I tried, but I was not able to find anything even close to make 5x expansion. The article as it is now gets more than 100 hits per day, which is not bad for an article about pepper.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:11, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Well, Peter Pepper doesn't look like it's going to make 5x expansion, there must be some type of funny looking plant with a real short article though... Qrsdogg (talk) 15:20, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- How many more characters we need for this 5x?--Mbz1 (talk) 15:23, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Only a couple thousand... Qrsdogg (talk) 15:26, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Well, the piece I wrote last night for had around 1,300 characters. Maybe we could add a new section named, for example, "the most pornographic pepper" and concentrate on it? I could also add more info to the main section I believe, but I am not sure how you count. I believe, when I first looked at the article, I counted it required around 6,000 characters for 5x extension.--Mbz1 (talk) 15:34, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

<--The page size script that I'm using has "697 B (123 words) 'readable prose size'" for this revision and "1502 B (263 words)" for the latest one. So we'd have to basically double what we have now (plus a little), it might be possible, I guess, with some hardcore research. Qrsdogg (talk) 16:12, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- So what do you think about adding info from the last night deleted article?--Mbz1 (talk) 16:28, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Possibly, might be worth a shot. I can't quite remember it too clearly though. Qrsdogg (talk) 16:30, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Before I do, I would like to ask you why did you remove few sources that were used in the article before?--Mbz1 (talk) 16:33, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- I wasn't 100% sure if they were reliable sources or not, I usually prefer to just work with books and newspapers. Use your best judgment, I guess. Qrsdogg (talk) 17:00, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- I added the section. Assuming you are ok with this, how many more characters we need?--Mbz1 (talk) 19:35, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, this revision has us up to "2778 B (476 words)". Up to 4x now! Qrsdogg (talk) 19:44, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- I added yet another section, and something else to the lead, both from RS. Are we there yet?--Mbz1 (talk) 23:17, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Well, you did it! Makes it easily over 5x now. Probably some organizing and editing to do, but its size is DYK-worthy now. Qrsdogg (talk) 01:51, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- So will you copy-edit it please?--Mbz1 (talk) 02:08, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll try to take a look at it later this weekend. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:09, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- And please think about the hook. Will this work "did you know that under certain light conditions penises could be grown in a pot?" or maybe even funnier "did you know that under certain light conditions circumcised penises could be grown in a pot?" I will also send you an email in a sec.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:17, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmm, that might be a bit too clever... Qrsdogg (talk) 02:33, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- You mean the second one or both?--Mbz1 (talk) 02:36, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

<--I don't know, just writing penis and linking to the pepper may not fly with the reviewers, you might want to get another opinion on it. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:42, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- This is tricky, it's hard to come up with a good one without getting too bawdy for the main page. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:48, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) You are not suggesting linking penis to penis, don't you? :-)"getting too bawdy for the main page", but we are talking about April Fools' Day. Well, I guess the only way of finding out how it would fly with the reviewers is to try it out. In a mean time, please think about other options.--Mbz1 (talk) 02:53, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, well, I'll see if anything good comes to mind. Qrsdogg (talk) 02:57, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
