Some questions about goalscorer module

Hi, S.A. Julio :) Firstly, the 2022 World Cup qualification is beginning next month, have you planned to use a module for the tournament, or already made one? As far as I know, we only have modules for Euro qualifying.
Secondly, while doing 2018 campaign, we had a discussion about shortening goalscorers lists: [1]. Many editors (including me) supported the idea. I think we should do the same to 2020 Euro qualifying's main article as well, but I do not know if we are able to do this using the module. Hopefully you can tell me. @Centaur271188: Hey! I was thinking about it, the only issue is that I'm unsure if I will have enough time to keep it up to date. Would you be interested in helping to update/watch it? Not as many people are familiar with modules, so mistakes/errors could arise if not updated carefully. I could also add some documentation to the module page for clarification. Regarding shortening the list, the module supports this, so it can be done for the World Cup qualifying articles. However for the Euros I don't see it as much of an issue, the 2016 cycle also has the full list, which is helpful in seeing the tally of lower players. S.A. Julio (talk) 10:03, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I will do my best to keep it up-to-date :) My early Lua edits were troublesome too, and those modules do not allow preview, so I will have to visit the Euro 2020 module sandbox a lot (thankfully you made that). Centaur271188 (talk) 12:14, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
@Centaur271188: Alright sounds good, I can help start the data page, I was thinking one for each confederation? I think the top scorers on the main article, 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification, might have to be manually done for now as the module currently only supports two levels (i.e. UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying --> Group A, B, C...), not three (i.e. Worldwide --> Confederation --> Round). However I'll soon try and find out if there could be a way to combine it for the main article. And for the AFC data page, I'd think after round 2 the page could be copied to a new data page for 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualification? Also, the module automatically sorts players from the following countries by exactly how the name is written (doesn't convert to LAST, FIRST): China, Chinese Taipei, Myanmar, South Korea, North Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos (are there any similar countries missing?). Also, one benefit of the module is that special characters are "cleaned" when sorting. I added all the special characters I found from the entire history of Euro goalscorers, however more will need to be added for the rest of the world. Well, if these modules cannot include more than 2 levels, then it would be difficult to apply them in AFC, CAF, CONCACAF and OFC campaigns, which usually have more than 2 rounds; so plainlist seems to be the only way here. While CONMEBOL and UEFA have no problem using Lua modules, I think we should not use 2 different methods in this whole qualification. @Centaur271188: Sorry if it wasn't clear, the module can handle any number of rounds/groups, the only issue is that World Cup qualifying has three levels of goalscorer lists: main level (i.e. 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification#Top goalscorers), confederation level (i.e. 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification (CAF)#Top goalscorers, and group/round level (i.e. 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification – CAF Second Round#Goalscorers). Currently the module can only handle two levels, so the top 15 or so worldwide goalscorers on the main article (2018 FIFA World Cup qualification#Top goalscorers) would have to be done manually. Thanks for explaining, I understand now. I agree that we are doing the main article list manually, maybe the inter-confederal playoffs as well, they are a separate section & article with just 4 matches and perhaps 10-20 goals. About Asian sortnames, I think you can leave out Thailand and Laos. Thai/Lao names are similar to Indo-European ones: the given name comes first, then the family name (they usually do not have the middle part). Hongkong and Macau are the most complicated cases: their names are mainly in Chinese order, but some use Western way; I think a Lua module cannot be programmed to 'understand' this, so we should find a way to manually sort them. And yes, the first 2 rounds also act as Asian Cup qualifiers, it is good to copy the data. :) Centaur271188 (talk) 21:57, 23 May 2019 (UTC)

@Centaur271188: Alright, I'll remove Thailand and Laos, I guess for Thailand the shortened wikilink uses the given name for match summaries (i.e. 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification – AFC Second Round#Group F), while they are still sorted "LAST, FIRST"? I'm not sure if this is the same case for Laos, for example 2018 AFF Championship shortens to given names for match summaries, while 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification – AFC Second Round#Group G and 2019 AFC Asian Cup qualification – Play-off Round shortens to surnames. I'll leave an explanation in the documentation for manually adjusting the sortname for different scenarios. Also, regarding the inter-confederation play-offs, should these goalscorer statistics be counted on the confederation articles too? For example, the infobox at 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification (AFC) has the end date as 10 October 2017, and doesn't include statistics for the inter-confederation play-offs. But the "Top goalscorers" section at the bottom of the page includes Mile Jedinak with 10 goals, therefore counting the match against Honduras. The inter-confederation play-offs are seperate, so I don't think they should be "double counted", thoughts? S.A. Julio (talk) 22:34, 23 May 2019 (UTC)
I think it is because Thai people are referred mainly by their given name [2], domestically as well as internationally. While spoken Thai and Lao languages are mutually intelligible, I do not know if the same rule applies to Lao names. About Mile Jedinak, I have moved him to '7 goals' section, some editor placed him in '10 goals' one in February 2018 and we just overlooked it. Inter-confederal playoffs should be counted separately. @Centaur271188: Alright, now added. The bolding is controlled in the module with "data.active_countries", just remove the country code for teams which have been eliminated. The actual note itself is added through a parameter on the page like here. And once the goalscorer list needs to be shortened for World Cup qualifying, you can put the value of the least number of goals you wish to display using the 'minimum' parameter on those pages. S.A. @Centaur271188: Sorry, now  Fixed. Once a round is completed, the date can be changed to 'complete'. Only issue is that because we are "between" rounds, this puts the AFC and world articles into past tense and removes the 'as of' date, so a little workaround is to move first round updated to the second round such as here, if that makes any sense. Thanks, but I think this is not about whether a round is complete. For example, when doing 2018 campaign, only confederal and world lists had bold feature; rounds/groups lists did not, goalscorers there were listed normally. It makes sense because all teams participating in a particular round can be considered equally active. By the way, AFC 1st round is not complete yet, we are waiting for AFC/FIFA decision about Sri Lanka vs Macau match. Centaur271188 (talk) 03:38, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Canadian soccer player date formats

I noticed that you modified the date format for two Canadian soccer player articles recently. Unlike other countries that have MOS:DATETIES, Canada is a special case when it comes to date formats. Apparently, "articles related to Canada or Israel may use either format with (as always) consistency within each article." It then points to MOS:DATERET. My apologies for the Sebastian Soto/Sebastián Soto page move. I was semi-aware of WP:SMALLDETAILS but wasn't sure if it covered accents, my bad! Appreciate the heads up. However, a small thing: could you notify the mover in the future. I only say this as I almost didn't see the move back from Sebastian Soto (soccer) and was midway through changing articles to use Sebastian Soto (soccer), which has left everything in a bit of a mess - of my doing, will fix that shortly. Anyway, if I had finished changing it to (soccer) before your move back I most likely would've gone on to edit other articles and not realised the mess I had left. Luo Guiping

Hello Julio. She's listed as having a cap on the FIFA website, and this says she was selected for the national team in 2013 (which follows from the FIFA article, which says she was called up the year after the 2012 U20 World Cup). @Number 57: Hmm, this article seems to say she did not actually make an appearance? (And Football at the 2013 East Asian Games lists China's team as U23.) Also, the caps/goals from FIFA are not always reliable (I believe this info is provided by the national FAs), I recall last year noticing a few mistakes with the World Cup (i.e. Samúel Friðjónsson listed having scored a goal here and here, which is incorrect). 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup ranking table.

I have not edited a ton of things on Wikipedia (although more than my newly created account would suggest), so please forgive my ignorance with relation to sources, but I'm not understanding why you continue to remove the table.

Any reasonable individual can infer the final rankings based on the record of the team and when they were eliminated. Although FIFA has not yet spelled it out for us verbatim (they didn't even publish the final ranking for the 2018 World Cup in the technical report as they've done in the past) it's debatable to me to infer that group standings are not a viable source. We know the teams' records thereby we know the final standings order.

Please provide your logic regarding this topic.

That may be, but information must be cited using reliable sources. If FIFA decided to change their criteria, this would result in a different ranking, hence why WP:NOR is an issue. S.A. Julio (talk) 18:24, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Regarding 2019 FIFA Women's WC

I removed the "against country" from the own goals because that was inconsistent with the remaining goals (which do not list such details). In the spirit of consistency, isn't the matter of which other national team benefited from the own goal rather trivial? In addition to consistency, I also had WP:NOTSTATSBOOK in mind, which states "Statistics that lack context or explanation can reduce readability and may be confusing"; in this case the addition of the country lacks context (why is that important? - which could also be said of the inclusion of all goal scorers at the WC, but nvm) and is also somewhat confusing because of the resulting lack of consistency (which has the reader wonder on the same question: "why is this important?"). 107.190.33.254 (talk) 19:02, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Well own goals are unique as they are scored for they opponent, hence why the team they scored for is noted. For all the remaining goals, it is clear who the goal is being scored for (i.e. the country of the player). S.A. Julio (talk) 19:10, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

I don't see the detail as trivial, that way you can see all the scorers of a team (which would not clear if the note were excluded). And yeah I'll have to get to archiving again, it builds up quicker than expected. S.A. Julio (talk) 18:37, 23 June 2019 (UTC)

2019 FIFA Women's World Cup knockout stage

Hi there, I noticed you removed the "(cnr.)" tag I added to Kellond-Knight's goal against Norway and marked it as "cleanup." While the "corner" tag is uncommon on Wikipedia (compared to "penalty" or "own goal"), that is only because a goal scored directly from a corner is remarkably uncommon. When it does occur, it seems to be typical to tag it as such on Wikipedia. Example usage: Coll's goal against the Soviet Union on the page, "1962 FIFA World Cup"; and Rapinoe's first goal against Canada on the page, "Football at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Women's tournament." @Fhiter27: It does not seem to be universal, for example there is no marking at 1964 European Cup Winners' Cup Final. The marking also appears unnecessary, a corner kick goal is not as noteworthy as an own goal or penalty. I would suggest discussing this at WT:FOOTY first to gain a consensus, therefore it could be incorporated directly into {{goal}} if deemed worthwhile. S.A. Julio (talk) 17:04, 24 June 2019 (UTC)

From glancing down your talk page, I can see that a few before me have asked this question, and I don't mean to pile on, but I was wondering if you could possibly tell me how these are done or the programs you use? I'd like to make them, if possible, for some smaller or less notable competitions that you may not get to (e.x. 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup or something like the u21 UEFA Euro). Hello, I am seeking help or advice on how to block IP addresses (editors without log-ins). This one certain editor is doing live match updates on the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Centaur271188, Hey sorry, I had a number of on- and off-wiki projects distracting me recently, so I forgot about creating the CAF module. I'll have it created very soon. On a partially related tangent, how do you think the articles should be split for 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification (CONCACAF)? I had thought the lower seeded round should be split into group and knockout stage articles, but wasn't sure. Then the Hexagonal and Play-off rounds will have their own pages. Unlike the other confederations, there aren't really "rounds" per se with this CONCACAF format, so I was unsure of what the articles should be titled in the future. About short name in football box

Hi, thanks for your explanation, but I do not really agree with "Sam Larsson was a squad member in the March fixtures". Isn't it reasonable enough to rely on the match report only? I know that way causes some issues as well - e.g. sometimes we have 1 Hazard (use the short name Hazard and readers have to mouse over the link to see it is Eden or Thorgan), sometimes we have 2 - but it is more relevant to that exact match anyway, also easier for editors. @Centaur271188: Well, Sam Larsson was on the bench for two matches, and could still feature in November. The line has to be drawn somewhere for when disambiguation is necessary, I think basing it off the squad members during the given cycle makes the most sense. Jordan Lukaku didn't appear in the group stage of Euro 2016, but Romelu was similarly disambiguated at the time. S.A. Julio (talk) 04:23, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
I agree that disambiguation is always needed in Euro and World Cup finals, because each team has a fixed squad there - a player is still in the squad even if he makes no appearances. Qualifying campaigns have no fixed squads, so I take a match-by-match approach; if I find no players with the same surname in that match's squad, I see no need for disambiguation. Back in October 2017[11], SuperJew and Chanheigeorge made some disambiguations and I reverted them with the same explanation; they had no further replies so I thought my way was OK. Euro 2020 playoffs page visual representation

The visual representation of qualification to to Euro 2020 playoffs is very confusing, in my opinion. Of course, a lot of the blame for confusion belongs to UEFA - I think that it requires a law degree to understand the process, but we can simplify. My suggestion for visual coloring is: 

  In a playoff spot: Green
     Qualified to playoffs - dark #66FF66
     Currently in a playoff position (not guaranteed) - light #CCFFCC
  
  Not in a playoff spot: Red/Purple
     Direct qualification - Purple
         Qualified directly - dark #B266FF
         Currently in a direct qualification position - light #E5CCFF
     Eliminated - Red
         Cannot qualify to playoff or tournament - dark #FF6666
         Currently not in a qualification position - light #FFCCCC

I think that it will create a clear map of who's in and who's out.

@Jawzny: I agree that the table can be somewhat confusing, the only issue with the idea is that, per MOS:COLOR, colours are not meant to be the only method of conveying information. Thank for that fix about Greece team! I forgot that if the majority of A & B teams qualify directly, some new C teams have a new chance.

What did you mean when saying about 4 combinations of directly qualified teams? Is it that "if at least 4 of these teams' pairs qualify, Greece advance to play-offs"? @Joél be back: Ah I maybe worded it a bit poorly, I meant there are four unique combinations of qualified teams in which Greece qualifies, since they could be joined by Netherlands or Germany and Austria or Israel. Template:country data New Caledonia

Thank you for adding the flag variants. It may not matter, but I noticed afterwards that FIBA and WBSC use and not (different proportions). Compare WBSC (FIBA:s pic is gigantic, so i don't link to it) with IHF. Does it matter which of the two flags is called by the templates?
- Speaking of IHF, IHF uses both the local flag and the French flag of New Caledonia on its website (Probably best to let the handball template just call for , as it is now, to be clear). IHF uses two flag also for Guadeloupe, but not for Martinique or French Guiana. DenSportgladeSkåningen (talk) 14:34, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

@DenSportgladeSkåningen: Hmm, looking at the WBSC website it seems they have all their flags proportioned to 4:3? For example Zimbabwe is very narrow compared to the Flag of Zimbabwe. As for the IHF, after looking at some clips of New Caledonia in tournaments, it does seem the French and FLNKS flags are used together. Also, interestingly enough Martinique adopted a flag meant for sporting events in May this year, shown here (more info at Flag of Martinique). Question about your revert and the WikiProject on Pro Football Leagues

Hey there. In your revert you said: ":Canadian teams previously played in the league, this list is not only for active leagues." If that's the case, shouldn't these leagues also be in that group?

USSF Division 2 Professional League, USL First Division, North American Soccer League (1968–84), National Professional Soccer League (1967), United Soccer Association, American Professional Soccer League, & A-League (1995–2004)

I'm sort of confused since these leagues had Canadian clubs in them but they aren't in the Canada section but are in the U.S. part. ColeTrain4EVER (talk) 02:44, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi, I don't know if you remember, but in August of last year you let me know about the existence of the "static" version of FIFA's website, which would have been useful to view the results pages of the national teams. Unfortunately, the static version hasn't been working for a while (see Lebanon's results page for example). Other than using a web archive (which displays the page in an "awkward" HTML-like way), do you know if it's possible to view the page clearly? Also, for the socks, I can only really see four clearly in the image: three seem to be white–blue–white with a thin blue band on top, while the one on the far left looks blue–white–blue. I've gone with the former, but let me know if it, or anything else, needs correcting. Also, on an unrelated note, where did you find the given name of the referee? Thanks man, good job! I didn't expect you to actually make the socks, since some players had plain white socks. This works out really well! As per the ref's name, as I don't know Hebrew I obviously had to rely on Google Translate. On the federation's page, it states: "The referee was British Army man John Blackwell." (Hebrew: שופט המשחק היה איש הצבא הבריטי ג'ון בלקוואל.) I would imagine ג'ון to be John, and בלקוואל to be Blackwell. As per the line-up, I just remembered that you did those as well ahaha. If it's not a bother to you, it would be greatly appreciated. One note: I would use the names at The Palestine Post (on the bottom right corner). Some players are called by name, others by surname, and others by nickname. @Nehme1499: Yeah it varies, I think North/South Korea are overwhelmingly the common name. Looking at the note in the lede of Mandatory Palestine, as well as other sources, a variety of names have been used including Mandatory or Mandate Palestine, the British Mandate of/for/in Palestine, British Palestine Mandate, British Palestine, etc. But I don't really mind either way if you change it back. In the article by The Palestine Post it states: "Caspi made a good leader and netted a couple of goals." Now, I'm not sure if it means that:
  1. Caspi, the captain, scored two goals; or
  2. Caspi scored two goals, thus he made a good leader (but wasn't necessarily the de facto captain).

Hey, something that was on my mind for quite some time. Why are we showing a bracket at the DFB-Pokal? There was no fix bracket and so it's more like OR and unsourced. Hi, I've noticed that Lebanon's formations at 2019 AFC Asian Cup Group E were a bit messed up (and in turn, your photos based on the formations written in the article). I adjusted Lebanon's two formations (the one vs KSA is correct), could you please fix the names in the pictures when you get the time? Vs Qatar we played in a 5-2-3 formation (the two wide-midfielders are actually full-backs; a 3-4-3 is still acceptable), while vs North Korea in a 4-3-3. If you need clarification let me know. @GRanemos1: Hello, due to copyright law, if the size of the logos are too large than what is necessary to display on the article, a bot will reduce the dimensions. Though if this causes too much quality to be lost, you can restore the old version of the file and add {{Non-free no reduce}}. Dear S.A. Julio: Thank you, for having a second look at my edits here, as errors happen. However, I don't think your de-facto reverts are justified. I am not sure, what gives you the idea, that Hamburg played in blue shorts. They always play in red shorts when they have the opportunity. The origin of their kits, and their crest can be found in the origin of the club, especially the merger(s) after WWI. If there is no special reason to think they played with blue shorts - especially against an opponent who plays also in blue shorts. The outfit of KSC is ad hoc documentable, albeit it seems that their shorts may have been a different shade or even colour than their tops, judging by photos. This may reflect different types of materials. However, this seems insignificant. In the end, if you have a good reason to think Hamburg played with blue shorts you may wish to proffer a workable argument.

What Antoine "Spitz" Kohn: I have recently undertaken, primarily for my own purposes a check on AFC Ajax managers - which yielded quite usable article improvements for the German versions of de:Vic Buckingham and de:Keith Spurgeon which also have led to lesser improvements of the WP:EN versions. There I als ascertained, that Kohn is known as Antoine and Spitz. My edit to Antoine "Spitz" Kohn enables people who are more familiar with the nomenclature of Ajax to immediately realise that he is the former Ajax coach/manager. Therefore I made meaningful use of this style of linking. It is for the convenience of the user, which should be the foremost goal of WP. I think, there is no good reason why it should not be done so. Not every user has time or interest to click on all individual players. One reason for this may also be, that a plenitude of articles of this kind are in the state of being a permanent stub, omitting even essential parts of players' careers.

I understand and appreciate that you are strongly involved in German football here. On the other side, occasionally you might overdo the micro-managing a bit. I personally, would appreciate not to be treated like an idiot.

On further notes: The German cup competition from (edit: wrong = 1966) 1955 forward was for quite a number of years a secondary calendar year operation. It was deemed financially not very attractive. @Oalexander: Hello, maybe we started off on the wrong foot. I'm not trying to be rude or over-manage, I just wish to follow better Wikipedia practices. Article titles are meant to reflect the WP:COMMONNAME, so piping the wikilink does not really solve the problem. If he is better known as Spitz, the article should be moved to Spitz Kohn. As for the HSV shorts, I found two images online from the match: here and here. I'm no expert at colourising black-and-white images, though using this tool, the shorts appeared to be blue to me. Do you have any other photos, or maybe the colourising is wrong? I just want to avoid any errors being introduced. Also, any contributions to cup articles would be appreciated, the English wiki is missing lots of information on it. I've actually been intending to expand the DFB-Pokal article from the German version, if I get around to it maybe you could help to check the information/translation? Regarding the kits, I could have a look (I'm not great with complex designs), maybe the files already exist on Commons. Also, regarding the 1956–57 DFB-Pokal/1957 DFB-Pokal, the DFB list it as the 1956/57 season, it seems better to be consistent and retain the previous title. Also note that the years don't always align for these competitions, such as 2019–20 Scottish League Cup or 1971 World Snooker Championship. I have sufficiently explained, why the Hamburg shorts are red and not blue. I don't see any point why I should accept your counterintuitive and counterfactual interpretation of shades of grey. If those kits should not be there in the first place, why don't you remove them? I have also sufficiently explained why, I believe It is a good compromise to mentioning Kohn as Antoine "Spitz" Kohn. Antoine and Spitz are both correct. Therefore my solution. No point in me, wasting my limited time on article-moving discussions, which, notwithstanding how they end, are pointless for the visitor.
I also believe in consistency as evidence in facts is more important than adhering to schemes which are plainly wrong. As I pointed out in the cup final 1957 talk: the business end of the competition was entirely in the 1957/58 season. That the Tschammerpokal 1939 does not compare due to the fact that this was a postponement due to war and not a regular feature. For the same reason, I accept that numerous Brazilian competitions, at hand I also would know of an Uruguayan championship, finished in the following year due to plenty of reasons, and are not are to be dated as per when the they were actually decided (nobody would do that). I personally don't care a lot to check the Scottish example (I am sure, there is a special reason). Here is more readily available evidence about the calendar-year nature of the cup competition then: "der Wettbewerb wird während eines Kalenderjahres ausgespielt". This coincides with the facts. More would be findable in the Archives of Hamburger Abendblatt.
What my co-operation here is concerned: "Wiki" is Hawaiian for "fast". I don't edit here, because I have tons of time. Not as much time, like people who discus in a biennial rhythm if a category is called "Bayern players" "Bayern footballers" "Footballers (Bayern)" or a dozen varieties thereof. Article histories are loaded with this stuff, but all too often significantly lack content. Instead of discussing minor issues endlessly, I rather do things which create additional knowledge for users. Our difference is, I am outcome orientated, whilst WP:EN is more concerned with process. I am glad, that I at least managed to get the FC Bayern logos right over the years.
What my co-operation here is concerned: Wikipedia does not need me. I may revert to general inactivity here, and focus on the odd contribution which I consider essential, as I held it in previous years.
Another thing that needs changing: The match diagrams of the 1976 Intercontinental Cup. Müller was, as always since the departure of Ohlhauser, centreforward (with the exception of him playing libero a couple of times 1978/79ish), acting in front of what manager Dettmar Cramer called back then "a densely populated midfield" ("dicht bevölkertes Mittelfeld"). Hoeneß as CF is wrong, Dürnberger was left and Torstensson right (sides have to be changed here). The rest I don't care, as it would involve more work than it is worth.

Template:Fba

Hello Julio. I was testing out some squadlist variations earlier using a screenreader, and I noticed that {{Fba}} doesn't work properly with them, as it doesn't use a version of the flag with alt text. The screenreader simply reads out the trigramme. Is there any possibility you can get it to use {{flagicon}} as the source for the flag, as that will provide alt text (this is what I used when I created {{FIFA Country codes}} before I knew your template existed). Positions by round tables

Why do you keep removing the positions by round tables? They are nessercery as they show the progress of the team throughout the season. Plus plenty of other pages have it such as La Liga, Serie A, and the Eredivisie. I understand that quite a few people don't want them but lots do want them and the fact that they have been consistently added the multiple pages and updated for years, and that on pages which don't have them such as the Premier League they keep being added, often by IP's or new editors shows that they are considered nessercery by a lot of people, while I it is quite a small group (abet rather experienced) that keeps removing them. Regarding the tables, I believe there were a few past discussions at WT:FOOTY, it seems to go against WP:NOTSTATS. There are external statistical websites that provide such information, it does not seem to be necessary on Wikipedia. Therefore, I don't see a need to pipe the link, just as Tottenham Hotspur is not piped to "Tottenham". Meanwhile, the lead of A.C. Milan states the club is "÷commonly referred to as A.C. Milan or simply Milan". As is common practice, abbreviations (such as FC, SC, AS, FK, CF, etc.) are truncated in wikilinks for clubs (e.g. Barcelona, Roma), Milan is no different. S.A. The naming of PSV and Tottenham Hotspur are not entirely equivalent, as Eindhoven isn't *officially* part of the club's name, whereas Hotspur is of course part of Tottenham Hotspur's name. And whether the PSV article title actually reflects the most commonly used name of the club I'm not convinced. A quick Google News search for "PSV Eindhoven" football brings up 277,000 results, meanwhile "PSV" football -Eindhoven yields a much more substantial 1,530,000. English speaking source seem to greatly prefer just PSV.
As you quote yourself, the opening sentence at A.C. Milan states that the club is "commonly referred to as A.C. Milan or simply Milan" (my italics). Primacy is given to the name A.C. Milan. I'm acutely aware that we *tend to* pipe out abbreviations, but that doesn't mean it's appropriate in the case of every club. In my experience, that club is quite rarely referred to as *just* Milan, not least because there are two major clubs from the same city. Google News would again suggest that I'm not too far off the mark: 8,800,000 results for "AC Milan" football compared to 7,500,000 for "Milan" football -AC -Inter. While Eindhoven is not in the club name, it still forms part of the common name in English, even UEFA's website use it as the full name of the club. Some news articles may use shorter terms such as "Man Utd", "Wolves" or "Shakhtar", though this does not necessarily indicate the common shortened club name. As for Milan, the order of the terms does not necessarily indicate priority, the same as Neymar's lead says he is "commonly known as Neymar Jr. or simply Neymar". Also, there is no real confusion with Inter (the club would never be referred to without 'Inter[nazionale]'), and if both A.C. Milan and Milan are in common use, it would make more sense to use the version which follows the typical formatting of club names (as is used in thousands of articles, and consistently in the history of European/Italian competition articles). First question

Should not French Polynesia national handball team (+women +U21) be named Tahiti national handball team? Since IHF uses the name Tahiti[13]

Second question

Is it possible to merge the templates National sports teams of Tahiti and National sports teams of French Polynesia in to one template? @DenSportgladeSkåningen: Since the IHF do use "Tahiti", the article should probably be moved. As for badminton, the page you linked does use the code "TAH", and the website uses "Tahiti" more often (example here). Both names are listed on the member associations page, though the name of the governing body is the "Tahitian Badminton Federation", so the badminton article could probably be moved as well. I think only one template is necessary, though probably under the name "French Polynesia" given that is the name of the region being represented, similar to Template:National sports teams of Taiwan. Now my question and i know it's handball but you seem pretty skilled in the technical stuff. Suddenly the eurohandball.com changed their whole layout and the links from Template:EHF and the wikidata links are not working anymore (at least so far)... Example, this is now changed to this.
