Unblock me for real

Sbb1413 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I have realised why I was blocked. I had edited disruptively on Wikipedia, did not respond to others and expressed my racist opinions. However, I am changed significantly since then and am proving that I will perform good edits through my 2nd chance editings above this section. Administrators should review the editing before unblocking. After my unblock, I will never express my racist opinion and will edit competantly. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 14:25, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Your attempt to follow template:2nd chance was clearly insufficient. I see no non-trivial edits and no reliable sources as citations for your edits. Frankly, even outside of the 2nd chance, this unblock request is nowhere near sufficient to take to the community to have your block lifted. Yamla (talk) 12:35, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Hello, Soumya-8974. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "List of languages by religion".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Negotiation to unblock

I have requested to unblock twice, but both are declined. Therefore, I want an admin to WP:NEGOTIATE with the matters related to my block. As I said in my last unblock request, I have changed myself significantly, and will never edit disruptively. I will edit constructively with no vandalism or racism. I also request to blank my userpage for now. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 13:35, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Pinging @Rosguill and Tavix:, the admins involved with my block. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 13:46, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Well, it's been six months so I am fine with a WP:SO unblock as long as there are significant restrictions, namely topic bans from redirects, Kashmir, and China broadly construed. I'd also like to see an assurance to stay away from anything that may be considered controversial, as controversial topics are an easy way to shorten the amount of WP:ROPE you have left. I'll go ahead and blank your userpage as requested. -- Tavix (talk) 14:59, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
I am on board with the above suggestion. signed, Rosguill talk 15:40, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Time to unblock?

Just reading the Lunar Module Eagle page again, which Soumya created, and was interested in asking for his comment on a question, and saw this block. An editor who had the interest and creativity to began and nurture that page surely is valuable to Wikipedia, and will only get better with time. Please consider enough as being enough, and unblock this editor who was insightful enough to fly with the Eagle. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:49, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

Copyright problem: Lunar Module Eagle

Control copyright icon Hello Soumya-8974, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! SHB2000 (talk) 23:06, 29 July 2021 (UTC)

@SHB2000:, Soumya-8974 is indefinitely blocked, and is not going to be changing the text to avoid COPYVIO, so please just go ahead and delete everything that has been copied; no reason to wait further. You might check their contribution history and run direct checks with Earwig or whatever tool you're using to see if you can find other OCPYVIOs. Good luck, Mathglot (talk) 05:52, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
@Mathglot: Unfortunately about 90% of the text is copyvio, might as well be better to nuke it. SHB2000 (talk) 07:40, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
@SHB2000:, Go for it. It's not unfortunate, it's policy, and there's good reason to nuke the material, or the whole article if you feel that's better. I support either decision. Mathglot (talk) 08:03, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Yeah I'll start a deletion nom soon. SHB2000 (talk) 09:38, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
@SHB2000: Actually, there might be an easier way than that. Can you post an Earwig (or other) link showing the 90% copied text? If so, then I think we could just PROD the article, link it to this discussion, and then it will get deleted in a week. Or alternatively to PRODding it, just add the Earwig link here, then change the article to a redirect. Save folks at Afd the trouble of a discussion. 19:24, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
Please edit the page and not delete it, the topic is easily notable. There are lots of cites from various acceptable sources. Let's see what's left when those sources are checked as back up of the text, including the images which are still good, and then a few edits can polish it up. Thanks. Randy Kryn (talk) 20:40, 30 July 2021 (UTC)
@Randy Kryn and Mathglot:, Link to copyvio. Also, I meant 80%, not 90%. That was a typo.
But if you think that you guys can rewrite this, then go for it. This isn't my home wiki at all (although I do have a high interest in astronomy), and I barely do stuff here. SHB2000 (talk) 07:00, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

@Randy Kryn: Okay. @SHB2000:, I removed copied material, moving the refs nearby to the new "Further reading" section, where they can be reapplied by editors who expand the article. Can you double check my work? Here's the result of Earwig at this point: 2%. Mathglot (talk) 07:16, 31 July 2021 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:Starship Mk1.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Starship Mk1.jpg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Wcam (talk) 14:25, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Request reason:

After a long-term hiatus, I have decided to edit Wikipedia with competence. I promise that I will listen to others, avoid major edits on controversial articles, respect all Wikipedians irrespective of age, gender, ideology, ethnicity, religion etc. I promise to avoid the circumstances that led to my block. Please unblock me. Soumya-8974 (talk) 13:50, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

Decline reason:

As per WP:SNOW, I am declining to copy this unban request to a noticeboard for community consideration. You are welcome to make a new unban request as per WP:UNBAN, but it'll need to be massively more convincing. Yamla (talk) 13:59, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I disagree; this was pretty clearly community consensus (WP:CBAN) by my investigation. Regardless, no admin is going to unilaterally lift the block. In this situation, they'd risk losing their permissions if they did so. So whether or not you are actually banned, the only path forward is via WP:UNBAN. --Yamla (talk) 14:05, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
Since I cannot appeal at the discussion board (I can only edit this page), someone have to do so in behalf of me per WP:UNBAN. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 14:11, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
Correct. And you'll need a massively more convincing request in order for that to happen. WP:UNBAN gives specific instructions. --Yamla (talk) 14:19, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

WP:AN thread opened

I have opened a discussion on WP:AN. You can see it at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Unban_request_for_Soumya-8974. --Yamla (talk) 11:45, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Request reason:

I was blocked in 9 January 2021 by Rosguill because of "Disruptive editing, WP:CIR and racism per Special:Permalink/999244891#Soumya-8974,_again". In my earlier requests to unblock, the sysops pointed out that I did not understand the rules of Wikipedia back then. Now I have learnt that competence is required to edit, ignoring feedbacks from others will tell unwanted consequences, personal attacks will make Wikipedia a harsh environment to edit for others, etc. If I am allowed to edit Wikipedia again, then I will promise that I will listen to the feedbacks carefully and try to address them, I will edit very carefully to avoid disruption, I will respect all editors irrespective of age, gender, religion and ethnicity and I will follow the rules of Wikipedia. Just like most of you, I am here to build an encyclopedia. I want to help improve the quality of existing articles, and avoid creating unnecessary redirects. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 17:54, 18 October 2021 (UTC)

Decline reason:

I'm sorry to report, the community declined your unban request. This is my closing of the request. Yamla (talk) 10:39, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I bet this request is much more convincing than the previous one, adhering the WP:GAB and WP:UNBAN guidelines. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 17:54, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
What, if any, topic bans are you currently subjected to? What, if any, additional topic bans would you adhere to, if the community decided it was appropriate for you to edit again? I ask because you earlier stated you would "avoid major edits on controversial articles" and I believe, but could be mistaken, that it's unlikely you'd be unblocked without a topic ban in the areas you were previously causing disruption. --Yamla (talk) 18:04, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
I am currently subjected to a topic ban on creating redirects since March 2020, as I created a lot of useless redirects back then. Editors were then telling to me always to avoid creating too much redirects, and I was reluctant to hear them. Now I promise to hear the feedbacks and take necessary steps to address them. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 18:11, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
If additional topic bans are necessary to unblock, then I will adhere a topic ban on controversial topics like Kashmir, Pakistan, Afghanistan, terrorism, where disruptive edits by me are possible due to lack of competence in those topics. I have no such history of disruptive edits related to astronomy and spaceflight, however. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 18:18, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
Oppose. This user has been given many chances to improve, and WP:Standard offer doesn't apply here.. Generally, a disruptive editor would also disrupt other topics as well, and even then, you have shown to repeat your behavior many times. You don't want feedback and improvement, you just want to get in to Wikipedia as soon as possible, and it is likely that I bet this request is much more convincing than the previous one is an obvious indicator of insincereness. We don't have to unban you becuse you have an eloquent argument, nor admitting people who drain our soul and will even if they make 100 featured articles. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 19:25, 18 October 2021 (UTC)
While my comments may still sound insincere due to my past behaviours, I have now changed my behaviour since my block due to my participation in other communities. While I may be disruptive in certain topics (Kashmir, redirects etc.), I have never been disruptive on topics about which I have significant knowledge and interest (astronomy, spaceflight). Of course, I am not irreplaceable (since there are several Wikipedians with spaceflight interest), and I am not the centre of Wikipedia either. I am here to volunteerly improve the encyclopedia. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 06:06, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
I believe this should be discussed by the community. While I'm currently unsure if I'd support unblocking/unbanning, I think there's enough here for the discussion. I plan to move the request to an admin noticeboard over the weekend. Soumya-8974, given the oppose above, you may choose to have me hold off if you wish. --Yamla (talk) 13:13, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose This user also has CIR issues on other WMF projects as well, such as Wikivoyage and never communicates with us, and to the point where I had to start nominating Soumya's pointless redirects for deletion (Vaticidalprophet also nominated some controversial Taiwan redirects as well). I've also had to decline numerous file move requests on Commons as well. And what about that copyright violation? SHB2000 (talk) 11:27, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Extremely sorry for these. Besides, I never actually had any will to contribute to travel guides, and I could not realise that the code of conduct in WV is different from WP. Most of my copyvios in Commons were in my early stages of uploading files, now they are little to none. Also sorry for behaving almost like Neelix when it comes to redirects. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 14:17, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Oppose. I know this user from the immense amount of redirect related disruption they caused last year, and I'm seeing a huge disconnect between their actions and what they're saying they're going to do. They claim they now understand that communication is important, but looking at their talk pages on other projects shows a complete lack of communication. Their talk page on Wikivoyage [1] has an enormous list of issues, almost none of which have been responded to. They claim that they understand competence is required to edit, but they don't seem to have provided any clue how they plan to develop some, and a look at their other project contributions shows a proposed redirect topic ban on Wikivoyage [2] a commons talk page full of warnings about uploading copyrighted images and policy violations [3] and on wiktionary even today they're unilaterally retargeting ancient project space shortcuts to new places [4]. To support an unblock I would expect to see some evidence of trouble free contributions on other projects and a plan to address the fundamental issue underlying all their editing issues - brashly jumping into areas and processes that they haven't bothered to read up on and bullheadedly making poorly thought out edits that other editors have to clean up after them. As it stands I think we'll simply end up playing whack-a-mole with this editor's disruption, if we ban them from doing X they'll just start disrupting Y instead. 163.1.15.238 (talk) 13:13, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
— Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard#Unban_request_for_Soumya-8974

The disruptions on Wikivoyage were months ago, and I no longer touch Wikivoyage due to the lack of willingness to contribute there. I will try to follow the social and behavioural norms if you kindly give me the last chance to contribute in my primary interest area at least (my primary interest is on spaceflight). I am here to improve an encyclopedia, not a travel guide. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 14:28, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
I unilaterally redirected the WT:BBL redirect as I was looking for Babel box for Wiktionary. I have reverted it and address the problem with a makeshift hatnote. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 14:39, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
I think you should wait and do something else. If you return 6 months later and being sincere, you might get a second chance. You should edit in your native language wiki as well, to prove that you are not being disruptive as well. Also, please listen to others, since this is one of your major complaints. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 14:34, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
Since I don't really like to reveal my native language (although I had revealed it several moons ago), I am reluctant to edit in my native language. I will try Simple English Wikipedia as a proving point instead. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 14:39, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

Is it the time to be unbanned?

I have been contributing in Commons for six months since my last unban request in October, with numerous constructive edits. As my enthusiasm towards Wikipedia is surging, I want to know whether it is the time to be unbanned. Soumya-8974 (talk) 13:16, 4 April 2022 (UTC)

Frankly, no. There are far, far, far too many warnings over at commons/UT/Soumya-8974/Archive_1. Nor has it been six months since you were last considered for unblocking here. WP:SNOWBALL would apply to any unban request from you at this time. --Yamla (talk) 14:04, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
Most of the warnings are from my early days of Commons. If you look at the warnings in 2021 and 2022, you can see that I have strived to solve those warnings. Anyway, I'll wait further and work more in Commons and possibly other projects. --Soumya-8974 (talk) 05:13, 5 April 2022 (UTC)
Let me be blunt: your competency has not being proven by your Commons edits. However, I do see that you have improved over time (or it is just because you uploaded less between March and April), so I suggest that an unblock request should be done in early 2023. Not a firm date though... CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 00:06, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Well, I was less active in March and April as I focused much on my off-wiki activities and I have even thought of leaving the whole Wikimedia for good. However, as I see that there are still some opportunity to improve myself here, I have decided to stay in Wikimedia. Due to my alleged incompetence in English Wikipedia, my unblock request is unlikely and I have formally declared myself as a former English Wikipedian. Soumya-8974 (talk) 14:11, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

Is it still the time to be unblocked?

Since I have established myself in Commons, Wikivoyage and Bengali Wikipedia, I'm wondering if the time has come to be unblocked in English Wikipedia? After unblocking, I swear to avoid the stuff that led me to this situation in the first place. Sbb1413 (talk) 05:29, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Rocket launches in 2013 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Unblock request 8 February 2023

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Sbb1413 (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I have already understand why I was blocked and I have since attempted to reform myself in several other Wikimedia sites, including Bengali Wikipedia, Commons and Wikivoyage. I was blocked for my disruptive edits, lack of competence and racism. I have since focused on other sites and I'm now considered a valuable contributor there. So I think I should be unblocked in English Wikipedia and if I were unblocked, I will focus to the articles on West Bengal and avoid the areas that lead me to my current situation. Sbb1413 (talk) 11:46, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Decline reason:

You are banned, not just blocked. See WP:UNBAN. Yamla (talk) 12:54, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

The WP:UNBAN says that I should use the unblock template, since I'm banned/blocked by English Wikipedia community. --Sbb1413 (talk) 13:20, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Yes. But it says more than that, doesn't it? --Yamla (talk) 13:21, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
It says "Post an appeal "unblock" template or comment there, by email or other off-site means such as the Unblock Ticket Request System (UTRS), and ask for it to be reposted to the appropriate discussion board. This is a voluntary act and should not be abused or used to excess. Submit an appeal to UTRS and ask an administrator to post it to the appropriate discussion board. This is a voluntary act and should not be abused or used to excess." It means, my unblock request should be posted to the appropriate venue by an admin. Sbb1413 (talk) 13:23, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Your request was for an unblock, not an unban. I'm not convinced you understand the difference between a block or a ban and I have to warn you, that strongly indicates WP:CIR still applies. You didn't ask for it to be copied over to the appropriate discussion board. Take your time. Make sure you get it right, because you will be judged on how you handle your unban request. --Yamla (talk) 13:26, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Should I take yet another six (or so) months before initiating another unban/unblock request or should I repeat the unban request with better wording right now? Sbb1413 (talk) 13:30, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
You haven't made an unban request, you have only made an unblock request so far. Provided you have not edited (the English language) Wikipedia in at least six months (with another account, or while not signed in to an account), you can make your unban request now. --Yamla (talk) 13:34, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

I have already understood why I was banned by the English Wikipedia community. I was banned from the entire site for my disruptive edits, lack of competence and racism. Unban me

Request reason:

I have already understood why I was banned in February 2021. I used to create zillions of useless redirects and behaved negatively towards other users (intentionally or unintentionally) under the username Soumya-8974. Now I understand the consequence of disruptive editing and behaving negatively towards other users. I have worked in English Wikivoyage, Wikimedia Commons and Bengali Wikipedia for more than two years, and I have largely avoided anything that could prevent working there. I know that banning is undertaken as a preventative measure and not as a punitiative measure. I hope the English Wikipedia community will unban me with certain terms and conditions, including topic bans on certain topics. I promise that I will avoid any disruptive editing in English Wikipedia and I won't behave negatively towards any users. I want topic bans on China, Pakistan and all redirects, and focus on topics related to India and transport systems instead. So many years have passed and everything has changed. I have already translated many English articles into Bengali. Now I want to translate Bengali articles into English. Thank you for your support and happy new year 2024. I want to copy this post to an appropriate venue by an uninvolved experienced editor.
