Miscellaneous

Hi. I'm sorry to say that there seem to be copyright concerns with this article. On 25 March 2010, this article was tagged for copyright concerns, though no source was identified. Investigation suggests that most of the lead is copied verbatim from the official website. A good bit of the other material seems to be duplicated in this February 2009 document [1]. The copyright status of this material needs to be clarified, I'm afraid before we are able to publish it on Wikipedia. If the content is imported, we will need to verify licensing. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials if you are the copyright owner, or Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission if you are not.

I have removed some extensive quotations in accordance with non-free content policy and guideline. I'm afraid we are only to use brief quotations unless licensing for this material is also verified.

Please provide any input you have at the article's talk page. The article has been blanked during the investigation and will be revisited after about a week. If you have any questions, you are welcome to come by my talk page, and I will be keeping an eye on the article's talk page as well so I can address them there. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:49, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that your edit summary here, "Whole Article Rewritten and the copyright violations have been resolved", was mistaken, as a comparison of the untagged article with your rewrite shows many sections of text were precisely the same ([2]), and a good bit of it seems to have been in violation of our copyright policies. Duplicated content has now been removed. Please be careful with copyright policies and processes; the purpose of the template that you removed was to ensure that Wikipedia did not violate copyright law pending an actual rewrite of this material, which is why the template on the article very clearly indicated it was only to be removed by an administrator or OTRS agent. With your out of process removal of that tag without addressing the concerns, I'm afraid you put the project back into violation.
You also seem to have removed all prior content from the article's talk page. This has been restored. While users are permitted to remove content from their own talk pages, article talk pages operate under different practices, as these conversations are retained for archival purposes. Only in a few specific situations should you remove the comments of others from talk pages. See WP:TPOC. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 18:24, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Your recent addition to Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has been removed, as it appears to have restored to the article material from this site to Wikipedia. As the talk page of the article advises, for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. If you are the copyright holder of this material, you will need to verify permission to reuse it in accordance with Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not, but feel that you can obtain permission from the copyright holder, please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:49, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While sometimes sources do copy from Wikipedia, unfortunately there's little doubt that substantial content has been placed in this article from previously published sources, as noted above. Can you verify the age of the website in question, so that the preexistence of the material in the article can be established? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:18, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It does not seem that google's web cache definitively indicates the date of origin of material, though I will ask more information from somebody more experienced with it. I did a test run on a phrase from a Wikipedia article and came up with the following results: [3]. The google cache it offers is March 27 2010, but that phrase has been in that article since at least 2004 (see [4]).

I will look for evidence of natural evolution within the article, but, again, the problem here is that content has been copied from previously published sources. For example, material you placed in the article in this edit of July 2009 duplicated previously published content in this source, which is dated to January 2009. This also seems to have been copied by you in June of 2009. Text you added here also seems to have copied directly or very closely. Compare the text you placed:

The Main Functions of ICAI are prescribing qualifications for Membership, holding examinations, arranging practical training for candidates, enrollment of members, publication and maintenance of register of qualified Members, carrying on activities for development of profession and maintenance of status and standard in the profession. The ICAI conducts research and brings out handbooks and publications/monologues in the direct interest of the members. It explores the oppurtunities for the employment of its members.

With content from the official site, here:

The main functions of the Institute of the Chartered Accountants of India are prescribing qualifications for membership, holding examination and arranging practical training of candidates, enrollment of members, publication and maintenance of register of members qualified to practice the profession, carrying on activities for development of the profession and regulation and maintenance of status and standard of professional qualification of the members.

and here:

The ICAI conducts research and brings out handbooks and publications/monologues on the subject of direct interest to the profession. It explores the opportunities for employment of its members.

Under the circumstances, we need to exercise great care before concluding that the content was copied from us. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:18, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello SivaneshR. Moonriddengirl asked me to take a look at the situation and offer my opinion. Having hunted around for an older version of the website containing the text you believe is a reverse-infringement, I've had no success. Given the issues with the article having had text added in violation of copyright, I agree with M that we need to be extra careful here. I realise it must be a little frustrating, but I think the best course of action is to omit the material (or completely rewrite it) unless we can prove that our text predates theirs. The Google cache does not do this, unfortunately, as the date of the cache is not the first instance of the page, but merely when Google's bots got to that page - which could be years after its creation. To be certain that we have cleaned the article and are now complying with copyright law, I too feel we need to err on the side of caution. Best, – Toon 14:33, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:CA logo icai.jpg

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:CA logo icai.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

PLEASE NOTE:

  • I am a bot, and will therefore not be able to answer your questions.
  • I will remove the request for deletion if the file is used in an article once again.

The article Audit and Assurance Standards issued by ICAI has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Delete as non-notable. The subject is relevant only to members of the institute, and only some of them, not to readers of a general encyclopedia.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fayenatic (talk) 14:05, 26 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Respect and honour

[edit]

Hi again! I disagree with this edit of yours -- those statements are not written in an appropriate tone for an encyclopedia, unless you can provide citations. - Fayenatic (talk) 16:51, 8 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Fayenatic, may be I was wrong in my tone, but that unregistered users actions to added citation needed temlates was nothing more than vandalism. Just because I added citation needed templates in Institute of Cost and Works accountants of India, he has added citation needed templates for undisputed facts known by all. R.Sivanesh 02:43, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The CN templates may have been motivated by petty retaliation, but they are justifiable; there is a case to answer. These claims are clearly being disputed now in 2010. Perhaps they were undisputed in 1949, but they are not "known to all" e.g. people outside India. Please find a citation; otherwise those sentences will have to be rewritten. - Fayenatic (talk) 12:35, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cool down

[edit]

Hi Sivanesh, I'm sorry to say that every part of this reversion of yours was technically incorrect, so your allegation of vandalism was misplaced. So was this; please see WP:AGF and WP:NEWCOMER. May I respectfully suggest you take short break from Wikipedia and come back when you can be a bit more objective? - Fayenatic (talk) 20:52, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I unit the the revision only to remove the reference list template standing right in the middle of the article and nothing else. R.Sivanesh 05:08, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe that was all you intended, but you reinstated a circular link and other errors against the WP:Manual of Style. Perhaps you should have just edited out that reference list instead of undoing the other corrections and making allegations. - Fayenatic (talk) 08:11, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Rupee

True, I dont have the unicode updated. I dont think it is advisable to change the template to the unicode because not every one will have updated their unicode. --JovianEye (talk) 02:29, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss this issue on the article's talk page. I will undo your edit for the time being because other users without the updated unicode (that includes me) cannot make sense of the article. Thanks! --JovianEye (talk) 02:40, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ICAI edits

[edit]

Would you consider removing this detail under "Disciplinary Process" and replacing with perhaps a reference link ? "The Disciplinary Directorate is headed by an officer designated as Director (Discipline). On receipt of any information or complaint that a member has allegedly engaged in any misconduct, the Director (Discipline) shall arrive at a prima facie opinion whether or not there is any misconduct. If the Director (Discipline) is of the opinion that the misconduct is covered by the items listed in the first schedule of the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949, he shall refer the case to the Board of Discipline. If he is of the Opinion that the case is covered by the Second Schedule or both schedules of the CA Act, he will refer the case to the Disciplinary Committee. If the Board of Discipline finds a member guilty of professional or other misconduct, it may at its discretion reprimand the member, remove the name of the member from the register of members for upto three months or impose a fine up to Indian Rupee ₹1,00,000/-. If Disciplinary Committee finds a member guilty of professional or other misconduct, it may at its discretion the reprimand the member, remove the name of the member from the register of members permanently or impose a fine up to Indian Rupee ₹5,00,000/-." Originally I had thought of including such information as well but the action taken by the Disciplinary committee varies a lot so I think for the purpose of the encyclopedia it is enough if we can reference the process rather than detail it - it is important for outsiders to know that there "is" a process and not so much the details of it.WikiCpa (talk) 06:10, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I don't have any time to offer for a peer review. Good luck with the article! Scartol • Tok 11:27, 20 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:TMB Logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:TMB Logo.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 06:06, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.ifac.org/PublicSector.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. This isn't your fault, but the material in this article has been taken from another website. Please see Talk:International Federation of Accountants#Copyright problem for details. In future, when you copy material from one article to another, please could you make sure you make attribution clear. See Copying within Wikipedia for more information on this. You can do this either in the initial edit summary, or with a note on the talkpage. {{Copied}} is one easy way to do it. --BelovedFreak 00:24, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Loksabha.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Loksabha.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 08:13, 1 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox accounting body

[edit]

Thanks. It is straightforward enough to do little thumbnail descriptions of these organizations, where they came from and what they do, which I think is useful. Not sure if I will keep it up though. Question: is there a way to specify image size? See Institute of Chartered Accountants of Guyana. The logo image is 100px wide, looks blurry blown up to 200px. Aymatth2 (talk) 13:34, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The image size can be tinkered with the optional parameter "size". I hid the parameter from the standard syntax since I thought it would be nice have all the articles with uniform image size. But since it looks very blurred in that particular article, I have added that parameter in that article alone. Now look at the ICAG article. -- R.Sivanesh © 14:15, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That looks a lot better. To me, the infobox width should be uniform, but the image size does not have to be. I would impose a maximum on the size value so it is forced-fitted to the infobox width, but allow for narrower images for cases like this. Aymatth2 (talk) 14:21, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please be more careful when reverting edits?

[edit]

Hi. You've recently reverted my earlier edit to Parliament of India. My edit simply copied over to the infobox the change made by "Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington" to the Hindi text in the lede. Either:

  • his (?) edit was correct, in which case my edit was also correct; or
  • his edit was incorrect, in which case you should have reverted both mine and his edits to the last version by "Rancho007".

Your careless revert has left us with Hindi text in the infobox that is different from that in the body of the article! I'm assuming you can speak/read Hindi (which I can't), so please sort this out one way or the other. And please be more careful when reverting next time! You may take a look at USA Patriot Act as a sample. Onkar 09:46, 1 May 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Onkarr (talkcontribs)

Ways to improve Sundaram - Clayton Limited

[edit]

Hi, I'm Stausifr. Sivanesh, thanks for creating Sundaram - Clayton Limited!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. Please look into the added tags and work on the article. I would suggest adding a couple of references.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse. tausif(talk) 14:32, 30 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi there! Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Mahatma Gandhi‎ does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! bojo1498 talk 16:46, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on File:Tamilnadu-Emblem.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The site has been fully revamped and updated and I would like to invite you the project.

Feel free to check out the project and ping me if you have any questions.

I'd like to invite you to join the Investment WikiProject. There are a lot of Investment related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help get this project off the ground and a few Investment pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks!
