Welcome—ask questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia! (Am I in the right place?)

How many DYKs are in a WikiProject?

Is there an easy way to cross-reference Category:Wikipedia Did you know articles with a particular WikiProject? Specifically in my case, I am looking at Wikipedia:WikiProject Role-playing games and Wikipedia:WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons, both of which have lists of known DYK articles, but if those lists have been maintained manually, we may have missed some that happened in the past. Since there are almost 100,000 DYK articles, I would rather not go through them manually. :) Is there a bot or some other function that can go through the whole category in a few minutes and pull out all the articles that have had DYK for a particular WikiProject? BOZ (talk) 00:07, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: You can make searches like talk: hastemplate:"WikiProject Role-playing games" incategory:"Wikipedia Did you know articles" and talk: hastemplate:"WikiProject Dungeons & Dragons" incategory:"Wikipedia Did you know articles". If you change incategory: to deepcat: then you also search subcategories of Category:Wikipedia Did you know articles, up to five levels deep (this category only has one level). See more at Help:Searching#Parameters. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:45, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    Sweeet, thank you. :) BOZ (talk) 12:15, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Creating a page

Good evening I am trying to create a article for myself but as I go to create then publish after finishing. It becomes a draft. By any chance can you tell me if it’s possible for me to publish the article and also how do I attatch pictures and table to be able to list stats?— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmoultrie88 (talkcontribs)

Jmoultrie88 Please review the autobiography policy which will explain why what you are attempting to do is not advisable and strongly discouraged(though not forbidden). New users cannot directly create articles and need to submit a draft using Articles for Creation. You should not submit your current draft yet as it is completely unsourced. I think you have some common misconceptions about Wikipedia in that it is not a place for people to tell the world about themselves. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia that summarizes what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about (in this case) a person, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person or notable musician. In essence, you need to forget everything you know about yourself and only write based on the content of independent sources. Most people have great difficulty doing that. If no independent sources have given you significant coverage, you would not merit a Wikipedia article at this time. 331dot (talk) 00:29, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Nominate a page for review?

    Hello,

I noticed a formatting error on a Wiki Article (the English language page for Riverboats). Specifically, it has two separate sections for “history”... is there a way to nominate this for someone to review and edit?

Thank you,— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:586:501:8160:b560:8c87:5ebf:79e (talkcontribs) 17 April 2021 02:03 (UTC)

Hello, thank you for brining this to our attention. I have merged the two sections – there did not seem to be any duplication. Eagleash (talk) 02:54, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Adding a new page

I want someone to add some new pages about some dere types like Yandere, Kuudere and stuff like that. I would like to know how to add some pages if I consider registering to Wikipedia.

Thank you for trying to assist me, that person who doesn’t know her IP address— Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.25.20.140 (talkcontribs) 17 April 2021 02:15 (UTC)

Hi. If you want to create articles without registering, you can do so via the WP:AfC process. If you will register, you can create articles directly after becoming wp:autoconfirmed.
However, you should see whether subjects of your articles will meet the criteria listed on WP:GNG first. Otherwise, they may be deleted. If you need help determining whether it meets WP:GNG, you should give more information on the articles you want to create. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 03:16, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Please note that creating a Wikipedia article that gets accepted is much more difficult than it appears, and editors who try to do so before they have spent a few weeks or months making small improements to articles and learning how Wikipedia works often have a frustrating and disappointing experience. Please see Your first article. --ColinFine (talk) 10:26, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Remove porn from site

Can you remove photo that comes up when googling “male waxing”? It’s extremely graphic pornography and not appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:e35:1050:24f8:119c:a08a:cbbb (talk) 2021-04-17T02:46:56 (UTC)

Hello, please note that Wikipedia is WP:NOTCENSORED, so offensive images may be used. However, if you believe the offensive picture can be replaced by a less offensive one, please do discuss on the article talk page. ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 03:05, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You may be seeing the photo in Google's Knowledge Graph which pulls information from many sources in a confusing way that often looks like it is coming from Wikipedia when it is not. You will need to complain to Google. RudolfRed (talk) 03:24, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the image referred to is the one in the Wikipedia article. I too, thought the OP was referring to the results of a 'Google' search but that does not reveal images that might cause offence. Eagleash (talk) 09:57, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not seeing a Knowledge Graph at all for [male waxing] or ["male waxing"] as search strings. Even if there was one, we have little to no influence over what images Google uses for its Knowledge Graph. —A little blue Bori v^_^v Jéské Couriano 08:25, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Can Baines Johnson and Fitzgerald Kennedy stand without "Lyndon" and "John", respectively?

If it is acceptable, are things like Dorian Fried or John Graydon Soroka (without Max or Michael respectively) acceptable too? If either are unacceptable, why? Thank you, NotReallySoroka (talk) (formerly DePlume) 03:10, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, NotReallySoroka. I think you are asking if those redirects should exist or not. The purpose of redirects is to allow people who search fro something under a different name, or a different spelling, to find the article. I would not have thought that the two existing ones that you mention were worthwhile, but redirects are cheap, so I would not bother taking them to redirects for discussion for deletion. If your people get referred to sometimes without the first name, then by all means create redirects; but the question is not "is it acceptable?" but "will it be useful to somebody looking for them?" --ColinFine (talk) 10:33, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Need to un-italicise an article title

I cannot figure out why the title of Australian modernism is displaying in italics. There is no style justification for it, and I was expecting to find an "italic title" template there that I could remove, but it doesn't have one. I cannot spot anything that is causing this, that I am able to undo. Can someone please enlighten me? Laterthanyouthink (talk) 06:13, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Laterthanyouthink: This is a function from Template:Infobox artwork. Have a look at the documentation, especially the note at the top. -- zzuuzz (talk) 06:26, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Zzuuzz: - ah, I see. That's great, thanks very much. I've been able to fix it now. Laterthanyouthink (talk) 07:16, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Missing table of contents

Talk:OpIndia has no TOC when I look at it. Is it just me? I didn't see anything turning TOC off in the source. --Guy Macon (talk) 11:28, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ToCs are only generated when a page has four or more headings. Kleinpecan (talk) 11:32, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You can place a TOC with __TOC__. See more at WP:TOC. PrimeHunter (talk) 11:52, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Sources from the New York Times

Hello! I hope you're all fine. I have a question; I have noticed that those who cite New York Times include a number of ISSN. I've tried to do so when resorting to NYT sources but I can't find the ISSN number anywhere. Where do these editors look for this number? Thanks and pardon my naïve question xD. CoryGlee (talk) 13:28, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, CoryGlee. One place you can find the ISSN is to look in our article New York Times, where you'll find it in the infobox. Wikipedia is not a reliable source but you can click through to a reliable source. --ColinFine (talk) 14:30, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Samuel Argall

It does not share about how he threatened the chief that he would attack the village if he did not give up Matoaka (Pocohauntas). He lord and claimed that he traded a copper pot for her later. Matoaka had to give up her baby little Kocoum to another village woman and her husband was killed by the white settlers when he returned to the village.

She was one of the first Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.127.106.213 (talk) 15:48, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you can cite a reliable source for those claims, you should add them to the article; or if you prefer, discuss them on the article's talk page, citing your source there. Maproom (talk) 17:44, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
To be more specific: we would need Reliable sources for those claims having existed historically, not for their being 'true.' The article Pocahontas mentions several elements of this suggested scenario, without linking them up so explicitly, so it's not just a modern confabulation or synthesis. {The poster foremrly known as 87.81.230.195} 2.219.35.136 (talk) 04:32, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr Salvus: No, its not possible, at least not for the ordinary user. A few people from the entire population of the earth have direct accesss to the servers and all data saved on it (so including watchlists), but trust me, that folks have better things to do than to look what Dr Salvus has on his watchlist. Graham87 Melbourne Telstra Ban

Is it possible to revoke Graham87's single authority to ban massive lists of IP's.

A two step method where a second individual who could verify if it was indeed a correct move would reduce the number of unnecessary IP's which have been blocked.

Currently he has made a ban effective for 3 years which blocks most of the Australian state of Victoria's Telstra network. This includes areas of the Optus network affecting potentially over 3 million IP's. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IdleVeidt (talkcontribs) 2021-04-18T01:02:40 (UTC)

    @IdleVeidt: Are you referring to 216.59.193.194 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)? ~ Aseleste (t, e | c, l) 02:09, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    courtesy ping Graham87Teratix 02:19, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Aseleste: No, every single user within the 2001:8003:4000:0:0:0:0:0/35 Ip listing, for context this includes account creation as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IdleVeidt (talkcontribs) 04:18, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Aseleste: That IP is registered to Little Elm, Texas. @Teratix: thanks for the ping. @IdleVeidt: unfortunately desperate circumstances require desperate measures. This is the only measure I could find to effectively deal with the IP editor whose last range was Special:Contributions/2001:8003:59DB:4100::/64 but has used others; see the relevant block log]. They are a highly prolific editor who has engaged in extreme right-wing pro-Trump misogynist editing for many years now. If I'd just blocked the latest /64, they could've come back again once they were assigned a new /64 range. I did ask on the edit filter mailing list if an edit filter could be made for this user's distinctive pattern of edits, but I was advised that this was difficult to impossible. I will only answer further questions about this block from established editors. Graham87 05:35, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, this sort of block is not at all unprecedented. Graham87 05:43, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Graham87: Not the question I asked at all, additionally I would prefer you removed your condescending vocabulary. I don't believe I need to be an established editor to ask for some second opinion be inserted before you implement your desperate measures. The only reason I have needed to make an account after years of editing was because of your actions. But back to the question, do you have any form of verification or regulation when making these decisions or are they entirely by your own authority.— Preceding unsigned comment added by IdleVeidt (talkcontribs) 06:06, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@IdleVeidt: Please sign your messages with four tildes ("~~~~") so pinging can work. I will answer this question only: yes, I have ultimate authority re these sorts of blocks, like all sysops, but other editors are free to review them and sysops can modify them without wheell-warring; the removal of this authority, desysopping, is a rather drastic procedure. If what you say is true about having edited for many years as an IP, you alone have chosen not to take up the many benefits of having an account. As we say here, "Trying to make serious edits to Wikipedia as an IP editor is like blindly blundering through the countryside on the first day of hunting season dressed like a moose", so thanks for removing your costume, even if under duress. I still don't entirely trust new editors in this sort of situation though. Graham87 06:48, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Graham87: I take it the part about condescending vocabulary went well above your head. I didn't make an account by choice and would prefer to be the moose if this is how this community treats people. IdleVeidt (talk) 10:19, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
IdleVeidt, the answer to your question is no - as things stand, any administrator can impose a range block like Graham87's one if they deem it necessary. The block is logged, and any administrator can remove it if they think it excessive - but they would normally talk to the blocking admin first to discuss why it was placed, and what alternative measures could be put in place.
Rather than going after Graham87 as an individual, I think the questions you really ought to be asking are 'Is this block necessary?' and 'Could a narrower block prevent the disruption without affecting so many people?' As you've seen, Graham87 has looked for alternatives such as an edit filter, and has tried blocking smaller ranges only to have the abuser pop back up, so this seems to be something of a last resort.
I'd add that you started this thread, with your second edit to Wikipedia under this account, by suggesting that restrictions be placed upon Graham87's editing. Not asking questions about the block's validity and scope, just jumping straight to suggesting that he be partially desysopped. If his tone is not quite as warm and welcoming as you might have hoped for, perhaps you should consider how you started this discussion. GirthSummit (blether) 11:31, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Amazon Prime Video

Is a listing of a series on Amazon Prime Video a reliable source for a series being available on Amazon Prime Video, or is this also prohibited per WP:AMAZON? ToQ100gou (talk) 01:25, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ToQ100gou I don't think you need to specifically cite the availability of something on Amazon Prime, as that is easy enough to confirm. 331dot (talk) 07:10, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
ToQ100gou, the only circumstances I can think of where a product's being available through a particular channel might be encyclopaedic is if there had previously been a widely reported dispute or problem about it. In any other case, mentioning it in an article would be pure promotion. (I removed a statement from an article yesterday about the publication of a biography of the subject for just that reason). --ColinFine (talk) 13:02, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

how to make semi-protection on our article

Hi, we are new here in Wikipedia, we've done few of editing on a specific person and we wanted to lock all the information what ever in the article. would like to have assistance on how to protect it and that no one can easily change the said content.

below is the article of the specific person that we wanted to have protection. Jafar Dhia Jafar

    Please help.

Luther Sabuero — Preceding unsigned comment added by Luther1122 (talkcontribs) 11:00, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Luther1122 You cannot get an article protected merely to prevent others from editing it. Anyone on Wikipedia can edit almost any article. Any article you create is not yours to control(see WP:OWN), and in fact if you have a conflict of interest you should no longer directly edit it, but instead make edit requests on the talk page. If there is a a specific problem with vandalism or other disruption, you may request protection at WP:RFPP. 331dot (talk)•
Hi Luther1122, I'm afraid that you can't protect content like that - anyone can edit any article. We only protect articles to prevent disruption which is sometimes caused by vandalism, edit warring and the like.
Can I ask who else you are referring to when you when you say 'we'? Accounts should only ever be used by one person - see WP:NOSHARING - if more than one person is working on this, you should each have your own account.
Can I also draw your attention to our guidance on conflicts of interest? If you have a connection with this person, you need to declare it. Thanks GirthSummit (blether) 11:09, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The article shows no sign of reliable secondary sources. I suspect that the section labelled "References" is in fact a bibliography of documents written by the subject rather than about him. We therefore have no evidence that the subject satisfies Wikipedia's notability requirement. --David Biddulph (talk) 12:00, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I did a quick WP:BEFORE, seems like they are probably notable, but the state of the article suggests it either needs fixing, or draftifying. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 12:37, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
One option could be to restore the version ca. 105 revisions back which contained three sources and was less cluttered with details on Jafar's workplace. Then the content added by the IPs can be gradually re-introduced along with proper references. – NJD-DE (talk) 13:05, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've reverted to the version immediately before the removal of the references. Maproom (talk) 18:59, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

User:HaimS is your user page and not the place for drafts or articles. I have moved it to Draft:Predictive methods for surgery duration and added a box with a submit button. The page title is the page name and should not be repeated as a heading inside the page. "Draft:" will be removed if the page is submitted and accepted. @Scope creep:, Malvina Hofstadterova was apparently born in Austria-Hungary, where German speakers were scattered over the country so Jamborkretz was possibly an endonym. Have you seen the Belgisch Staatsblad from 1949 https://books.google.co.uk/books?id=1NjFq3ElP2EC&pg=PA10664, which says Jambokretz, rather than Jamborkretz. TSventon (talk) 21:02, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: Stellar ref. A Penal sentence of 10 years, an annoucement. That is definently her. I think so. scope_creepTalk 23:00, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep:, I wouldn't use the Belgisch Staatsblad as a sole reference as it looks like a primary source. Is "Polkowice in Silesia" an error copied from Fritz Thiel (resistance fighter)? I looked online for gazetteers of Czechoslovakia or Austria-Hungary and various genealogy websites have them, but you have to register. Someone on the reference desk may have access. TSventon (talk) 14:10, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: There is plenty of references, particularly in German. No worries there. You'll see it as the article develops. I think what does worry me is I don't have a death date yet. Once the graph get's going, an obit will turn up, no doubt eventually. It usually does. She is very well known amongst that group of academics, as she gave away the whole game to the German, and a lot of the events, rotate around her, so there is plenty there. scope_creepTalk 11:06, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@TSventon: The infobox has still to be changed. It was copied over from Thiel. scope_creepTalk 11:09, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Scope creep:, to go back to the original question List of German exonyms for places in the Czech Republic, List of German exonyms for places in Slovakia and de:Liste deutscher Bezeichnungen ukrainischer Orte suggest that Jamborkretz was not a well known name of a town or village in Czechoslovakia. Does G13 apply to drafts waiting to be reviewed?

There is, unfortunately, a large backlog for draft reviews, so it can take quite some time for a draft to be reviewed. If a draft has been submitted for review, and the review has not happened in 6 months along with no other edits, is the draft subject to WP:G13 CSD? Use revisions, which you can find in the page history. For example, if I wanted to link the version of this page that existed before you asked this question, I could link to revision 1018543432. Lettlerhellocontribs 16:59, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Lettler: I meant to write "internally link" in the sentence, sorry. Still, thanks. I asked this because I had originally posted another question on the help desk about a possible error I encountered on a page first, then decided to use the talk page and deleted it here, and I decided to provide a link to the question I had previously asked.--Thylacine24 (talk) 17:38, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Thylacine24 and Lettler: With internal links, this works via Special:Redirect, for example [[Special:Redirect/revision/1018543432|1018543432]] produces 1018543432. Victor Schmidt (talk) 17:04, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)Hello, MaryKLynch. The normal way to connect with another editor is either to post on their User talk page, or to post elsewhere (such as the talk page of the relevant article) and ping that editor. The ethos of Wikipedia is that discussions should be public unless there is a very good reason (see the previous section on this page for a little discussion of this). If the editor in question has chosen to set an email address on their account, then you can email them, but if they haven't, there is no way to contact them privately. --ColinFine (talk) 21:24, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MaryKLynch: just a reminder that you don't own any articles you start. They are avaialable for all to edit in good faith. As advised above, disagreements about content, sourcing, etc. should be discussed either with the editor concerned, the article's talk page or at WikiProject level. I suggest you start a discussion on the article's talk page - Talk:Dukes in the United Kingdom - with the URL you provided as well as more information about the "hidden tag". Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 03:33, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Guardian piece actually refers to a 'Duke Wodingtonshire' rather than a 'Duke of Wodingtonshire', and is from their 'notes and queries' section, which solicited replies from readers. As such, it doesn't constitute a reliable source for anything. From a quick Google search, I suspect that said Duke may be entirely fictitious. AndyTheGrump (talk) 03:41, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The Guardian piece is obviously a joke. There's no reason to believe such a title ever existed. The article Dukes in the United Kingdom has no mention of that name, hidden or otherwise. Maproom (talk) 07:40, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Using a period after a quoted sentence ending in an ellipsis

Could anyone please tell me what to do when a sentence ends with a quote that ends in an ellipsis? I'm not sure if the last period of the ellipsis constitutes the ending punctuation in and of itself, and the Manual of Style section on ellipses doesn't seem to cover it. I do know that Wikipedia uses logical quotation, though I'm not sure if that has any bearing on this.--Thylacine24 (talk) 03:11, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Thylacine24: The MOS section you linked to says "Place terminal punctuation after an ellipsis only if it is textually important, as is often the case with exclamation marks and question marks but rarely with periods". I take this to mean that you would normally omit the period if the sentence ends with an ellipsis. RudolfRed (talk) 03:42, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RudolfRed: Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that only applies to the sentence being quoted, not the sentence that the quotation occurs in. Sorry if I'm wrong, sorry if I didn't make that clear in my original post, and also sorry to be condescending.--Thylacine24 (talk) 03:56, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
According to this source regarding MLA usage,[2] you need three ellipsis points and a period within the quote. (On the other hand, the author uses "Ex." instead of "E.g." for the relevant example.) Clarityfiend (talk) 04:24, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    This guide[3] agrees. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:25, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Clarityfiend: Thanks, but I'm a little uncertain about this, since the MOS says that it should "rarely" be done with periods. Could you please tell me if ending the sentence that the quotation is in is an exception?--Thylacine24 (talk) 04:38, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The MOS seems to contradict itself, at least as far as an ending period goes. "where an ellipsis is immediately followed by any of . ? ! : ; , ) ] }" lumps all of the punctuation marks together, then in the immediately following two examples, treats an ending period differently than a question mark. The last two paragraphs of Ellipsis#American English also make no distinction between periods and other marks: "k...." vs "m...?" and "In legal writing in the United States, .... If an ellipsis ends the sentence, then there are three dots, each separated by a space, followed by the final punctuation ...." (I've always left off the ending period myself.) Clarityfiend (talk) 07:13, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    @Clarityfiend: Thanks. I'll take your advice.--Thylacine24 (talk) 10:54, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft: Schenck Process Wikipedia article

    Dear Wikipedia-Team,

there seems to be a draft version for the company "Schenck Process" in the English Wikipedia. So far, such an article had not existed. How is the review process for draft articles usually and who could help to transform the draft into an actual article? It seems I am not an autoconfirmed user which is why the options I have myself are limited.

The Link of the draft version is as follows: Draft:Schenck Process.

Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.254.121.6 (talk)

I have added the appropriate information to allow you to submit the draft for review, although if you were to do so now, it would be rejected quickly, as it is sourced to nothing but the company website. A Wikipedia article should summarize what independent reliable sources say about the company, not what it says about itself.
If you work for the company, please read about conflict of interest and paid editing for information on required formal disclosures you may have to make. 331dot (talk) 11:14, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@About672599: testwiki: and test2wiki: are more for developers, administrators and other users with advanced rights who can test things without disrupting a normal wiki. There is almost never a reason for new users to make tests there. You can just use Wikipedia:Sandbox or your local sandbox for tests. If you really want to use one of the test wikis then go for testwiki:. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:49, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have found surprising notification that I am irrelevant to the discussion. In nutshell, the message warns me not to organize WP:OS to Wikipedia and otherwise result in block or banned. I haven't edit Gospel of John and Tgeorgescu message sounds like creepy menace. The message reads:

"Please read Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 244#Gospel of John. Read it slowly and carefully and you'll find out why is it of application. If WP:CHOPSY say that the Bible is wrong something, so says Wikipedia. WP:EXTRAORDINARY applies to giving the lie to those universities, especially when they all toe the same line. I oppose WP:PROFRINGE in our articles. You may read the full rationale at WP:NOBIGOTS.

For Wikipedia, WP:FRINGE is what WP:CHOPSY say it's fringe, not what the Christian Church says it's fringe.

Ancient documents and artifacts referring to the Bible may only be analyzed by mainstream Bible scholars (usually full professors from reputable, mainstream universities), as far as Wikipedia is concerned. Your own analysis is unwanted, also, my own analysis is unwanted, and so on, this applies to each and every editor. Wikipedia is not a website for ventilating our own personal opinions.

Wikipedia editors have to WP:CITE WP:SOURCES. That's the backbone of writing all Wikipedia articles. Talk pages of articles are primarily meant for discussing WP:SOURCES.

Original research and original synthesis are prohibited in all their forms as a matter of website policy. Repeated trespassers of such rule will be blocked by website administrators.

I don't know what Wikipedia:Oversight has to do with this. Anyway my message was: please kowtow to WP:CHOPSY and WP:RS/AC, and WP:CITE your WP:SOURCES.
And none of that is creepy, unless your purpose is to violate WP:NOR. I agree that for Wikipedians engaging in original research, that's the creepiest thing they ever heard. Tgeorgescu (talk) 16:35, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your idea and I am confident to obey WP:CHOPSY. I trust in commitment of scientific consensus that what Wikipedia want, and I have to thank you for your teaching. However your message is irrelevant in accordance with editor actions. You have to notify me as I do wrong with the policy and guideline. I haven't edit Gospel of John. Your message intimidate me in sense. Anyway, I will accept your basic suggestion here please. Thanks. The Supermind (talk) 16:47, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Popcornfud: Copy the text to Notepad or a similar text editor. You can always click edit and replace the text with your draft to preview, but don't need to publish. Then as you make changes, you simply copy the updated text back to Notepad again. Just be careful that you don't overwrite other people's (or bots') subsequent edits with your new text. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:30, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, yes, but this is exactly what I've been doing for years - pasting into another doc or a sandbox. I was asking if there was an automated way to do this. Popcornfud (talk) 19:47, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Popcornfud: It shouldn't be automated, such as putting the current text into some sort of cache for you to edit, since you might accidentally overwrite something you weren't supposed to, depending on how frequently the article is being edited. Even frequently editing the Teahouse or Help Desk gives me numerous edit conflict alerts that I have to address. Using old school manual notepad or sandbox methods are the best ways. TimTempleton (talk) (cont)
@Popcornfud: - you can also use the {{in use}} template – to tell others not to edit while that shows, to minimize edit conflicts. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 18:54, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Gråbergs Gråa Sång I saw User:WikiCleanerBot do that recently. TSventon (talk) 11:51, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

HTML/Wiki formatting of article List of vegans

Hi, [List of vegans]] currently has a panel of images next to the list which works on PC but not well on mobile. Is there a coding help desk, a list of formatting wizzes, or someone on here who could give us (three active editors) some suggestions on the formatting? Many thanks, Trimton (talk) 11:55, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Circa date ranges in |date= parameter

    Resolved

I've noticed that in the article Tragic Prelude, there is a "Check date values" error in reference #4 ("Description of Murals for Kansas State House"). I referenced Help:CS1_errors#bad_date, but the date value in the citation seems to comply with both date range and circa rules. Thus, I am not sure whether there is a separate, correct way to format circa date ranges, or whether that option even exists. GeneralPoxter (talkcontribs) 14:55, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The quote in Tragic Prelude is cited to the online source: "Cross-Curricular Connect: Tragic Prelude" at charlesmcquillen.com. There the quote is repeated and cited to an archive. For the purposes of en.wiki, it is sufficient to cite WP:WHEREYOUREADIT so, perhaps something like:
John Steuart Curry quoted in: McQuillen, Charles (March 25, 2017). "Cross-Curricular Connect: Tragic Prelude". McQuillen Studios.
With regard to the 'circa' question, a range of dates is already approximate so for the purposes of cs1|2, the 'c.' prefix is redundant.

    Grammar in articles

    Hello,

I was wondering if there is a consensus for how grammar, spelling and sentence structure mistakes should be approached when editing an article. I often find grammatical errors and was wondering if I should be correcting them, or if there is one "style" I should be using when I do fix these kinds of mistakes. If anyone has links to other articles or talk pages that have a general answer for this, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks, Redf1veXW (talk) 17:21, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Articles should conform to our manual of style. You'll find it at WP:MOS. --Orange Mike | Talk 17:36, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
