Are mailing lists referencable?

How to display stock price chart?

This is, as a rule, something we don't do regularly as it's tangential. Wikipedia is written for the benefit of the layperson, so including stock information on a company isn't helpful unless it's central to the topic (such as, say, Enron), and even then it's handled on a case-by-case basis. —A little blue Bori v^_^v ^{Jéské Couriano} 12:33, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Santacruz: In this case the effects of the liquidity crisis on the stock price at this particular point in time may be relevant to the article and useful to the reader, whereas any attempt at an ongoing price chart would not (WP:NOTNEWS). You will need to build the chart yourself using (and citing) reliable sources. To create a chart or graph, see Wikipedia:Graphs and charts. Alternatively, use a graphics program such as Inkscape or Gnuplot to create an image file, and upload it to Commons and then add the image to the article. -Arch dude (talk) 15:05, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Policy on birth names

If a subject of an article states a preference that their middle name not be mentioned in their article (see Talk:Jacksepticeye#Seán William), what is the WP policy on how to present their name. MOS:FULLNAME seems to suggest presenting the full name but it doesn't talk about a case like this. Also, do you think what Jacksepticeye says in his most recent video (cited next to his name now) is good enough to indicate we should make a change? It isn't quite explicitly a call to remove from his WP article and it could be half-jokingly but it does seem to clearly be a statement that he doesn't like that name being used. I'm asking here rather than the article talk page as I'm interested in seeing if there are any policies about cases like this. Thanks. Alduin2000 (talk) 10:11, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Alduin2000 Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of personal information and using primary sources says "With identity theft a serious ongoing concern, many people regard their full names and dates of birth as private. Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public." At present the middle name in the article does not seem to be cited. If you want clarification of the policy I suggest reading the whole section and then asking on Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard, ideally quoting what the Youtube video says. I'm not sure if it is sourced in the lead or early life sections but quite a few sources mention the middle name, including sources used in the article. His middle name is mentioned by The Irish Times [1][2][3], Irish Examiner [4][5], and Irish Independent [6]. The policy mentions what to do in the case where a subject of an article requests that their DOB be removed, but not their full name. Is Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard definitely the right place for this? It says at the top "This page is for reporting issues regarding biographies of living persons. Generally this means cases where editors are repeatedly adding defamatory or libelous material to articles about living people over an extended period." The argument appears to be that Jacksepticeye himself requested that "William" be removed from the article. However I've always been told that what the subject of an article wants to happen to the article doesn't matter because Wikipedia is based on reliable secondary sources. If there aren't any sources that have "William" in the name then yes it should be removed. However if there are sources that have "William" in his name and they're reliable, then it should be kept. Also, I've always heard that Youtube can really only be used as a source for sub counts and view counts on videos. Despite this someone has sourced a video by the subject of the article as a reason for his middle name to not be included. Questions on template usage

Is it wrong/incorrect to use {{For}} in the body of an article? I've majoritively seen {{See also}} and {{Main article}} being used in the body of various article, however recently I saw {{For}} usage was increasingly being used outside the normal/expected usage location (at the start of an article) such as replacing {{See also}} especially on articles related to Korean singer. Hence would like clarification on such as I have never seen other non-Korean singer articles or article unrelated to Entertainment having such usage nor did I came across pages under Wikipedia namespace having such usage. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 12:24, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Preventing a page from being repeatedly vandalised?

Hi, I'm sorry for asking a question that has almost certainly been asked before. An Australian musician's wiki is being vandalised repeatedly. His profession is being changed in the main text and in the infobox to 'geographer'. Perhaps there IS a geographer with the same name, but this is not his page. Content in the article does not require the approval of the subject. It merely requires to have been published in independent reliable sources. If you are editing on behalf of the subject you need to read about conflict of interest, and about paid editing which requires a mandatory declaration. --David Biddulph (talk) 14:08, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

@David O. Johnson: How many times have they reverted the same content? If they were each their own revert, they probably haven't violated any rules. Harv error

Hi Folks!! I have reference on the Draft:Republic of Indonesia in the National Revolution that is stating Harv error: linked from CITEREFHatta2011. I've had a mess about with the dates and put a refend tag in, that was missing, but can't see what is up with it. References that are used in the article text are not 'further reading'. §Further reading should hold only references to further reading. Consider moving the non-further-reading references into §Bibliography.

And, sort of related, I have a hard time imagining that 'TNI' (Tentara Nasional Indonesia according to TNI) is the surname of Markas Besar (which google translate says means 'headquarter'). Don't misuse the |last= and |first= parameters in cs1|2 templates. Unless an actual author can be named, I would rewrite that {{cite book}} template this way:

I'm trying to stop a spam user from removing illustrations that go inside with the article it goes with. How do i go about reporting this person? he has 3 different accounts that he uses to spam and report users that fix the vandalism issues. @Haskinben7: Accusing users of sock puppetry is a pretty serious thing. Which three users are you accusing of being socks? (As one of the users who has reverted your edits, I presume you mean me as one of the socks.) You could consider the fact that multiple different users disagree with your preferred version of the page, which is why you have now been reported at WP:3RRN. non-sexist language for back when all competitors were men?

Some articles on the early days of the World Chess Championship use sexist language. For instance World_Chess_Championship#Official_champions_before_FIDE_(1886–1946) says: "if a player thought he was strong enough, he (or his friends) would find financial backing for a match purse and challenge the reigning world champion. If he won, he would become the new champion." Now due to a variety of reasons no woman challenged for the world championship or even came close to doing so during that era. (The first instance of a woman even seriously competing near the top level seems to be Vera Menchik in 1929, she was probably in the top 100 in the world, but not close to being a world championship challenger). But still, the language "grates" for me. And in chess (unlike many physical sports), a female world champion challenger was (and is) at least a theoretical possibility.

So my question: is it appropriate to change "he/his" to "they/their" in the sentence above, even though it is about 1886-1946 when all the people it refers to were men? Adpete (talk) 00:10, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

I'd say changing to singular they is the best approach when talking about unknown individuals (such as the competitors of a sport, or the players of a game), so changing here would be appropriate. You will find many a editors who are against using singular they, though, especially in this context. My advice is to be bold and change it; you might be reverted, and then will have to discuss with the editors and see if people agree with the change. I mildly disagree with Clarityfiend. Cf's point may be valid when stating what did happen: all the contenders were male. But Adpete is considering text about what might have happened. I think the problem is mainly solved by a rephrase. Here is an edit I did to another article: "matches were privately organized between the champion and challenger, and the challenger became the new World Champion if he won." [7] By moving the mention of issuing the challenge to elsewhere, it now doesn't use the pronoun until it refers to actual challengers (rather than potential challengers), where I think "he" is ok, and in fact "they" would read a little oddly (again, bearing in mind this is the period 1886–1946). Wikipedia (the site as a whole) is usually being updated several times per second. Click on the "recent changes" link on the left-had sidebar to see this. Does a method or script to prune my watchlist exist?

I have ~2500 pages on my Watchlist and it's my main point of entrance to Wikipedia. There is another user who is very active on Wikipedia using the AutoWikiBrowser and adds/edits categories a lot. This is great, the work they do is great! However, my Watchlist often fills up with their edits that can't be excluded with any of the checkboxes that the Watchlist tool has available, to the best of my knowledge. I have the "page categorization" box checked, but it doesn't catch these.

I'd like to know if there's a way to either 1) not see edits made by this user, or 2) not see edits made using AutoWikiBrowser. I saw this discussion from a while ago which indicates that this is maybe a thing that could be scripted, but I am not a scripter and I'm not sure where I'd look for such a thing (and that link is long since dead). Any suggestions? My goal is to make my Watchlist more manageable by cutting about 75% of the AutoWikiBrowser edits made by this person. The person is doing a great job and I don't want to otherwise curtail their work, just slim down my Watchlist. Thanks for any advice. Jessamyn (talk) 03:46, 23 September 2021 (UTC)

Remove "Draft:" from the title of a page

What is considered published?

Is there a precise definition of publication? There is a speech being given in a few weeks regarding an article I wrote, the Proseminar in Homophile Studies. Why did FormalDude undo my edit on Lewis (given name) and call it "unconstructive"?

If somebody said "I've just starting being a builder, will somebody tell me how to build a house?", most people would answer "First, spend a few years learning the building trade". A Wikipedia article isn't as big and complicated as a house, but it's much more difficult than it first appears, and most editors who try it before they have learnt how Wikipedia works have a frustrating time. The questions seem to be on another user's talkpage. I have tagged some of the images on Commons for speedy deletion, as they are blatant copies of images from other sources. But apparently someone on Commons has reverted it.... They're obviously just copying images off Getty and newspapers, but it's Commons' problem to delete them. The article Holly Carter exists, but this is about a different person from the executive director of BYkids to which I presume you are referring. @HollyBYkids: I'm an administrator and haven't found signs of such a page. The closest title match I can find in deleted articles is the unrelated Olly Carter. @HollyBYkids: To answer the original question with respect to BYKids, as the most recent incarnation of the article was deleted per WP:PROD, it could theoretically be undeleted by request at the appropriate noticeboard, but this wouldn't exempt it from being nominated for deletion by a more formal process if others feel that BYKids doesn't meet our notability standards for organizations. Further, there was a suspicion raised back then that the article creator was connected with the organization--we strongly discourage editing by people with such a connection for conflict of interest reasons. I thought wiki wanted facts? I found the page blank with a forwarding link. The Beretta Px4 is a pistol adding a shoulder stock and a high a capacity magazine makes a Beretta Cx4 assault pistol not a carbine. A carbine is a short barrelled rifle that is chambered for rifle rounds or a rifle short or long barreled chambered for hot pistol rounds aka carbine loads. The Beretta Cx4 is designed for standard pistol rounds not hot rounds, therefor is is not a carbine but a semi-automatic assault pistol.

Now I get crapped on for trying to correct something, then some tool says go play in the sand box, threaten to be banned from something I never joined, but sent money to in the past? I now know I wasted my money and you are likely never to get another dime.

If so, the first thing to do would be to comment, in Draft talk:Tellor (Blockchain), on Theroadislong's suggestion that this draft was written for payment. Then you follow the other suggestions. When you think the draft is good enough to be an article, you can submit it for consideration as an article; it will be rejected (which means "Stop"), declined (which means "Keep on working at it"), or accepted.
