Trowbridge Castle

Thank you for your work in new page patrolling and protecting Wikipedia against copyright violations. On investigation, I found that the text you removed from the article Trowbridge Castle was not a copyvio, but was moved (without attribution or suitable edit summary) from the article Trowbridge. Templates

Are you trying to be funny? Please (1) read the essay WP:DTTR and try to understand why it's inappropriate to twice "Welcome to Wikipedia" an editor who's been here more than 12 years, (2) try checking the article history before templating the admin who merely refunded a deleted article, (3) realise that you're responsible for the edits you make, including those made via the "Page Curation tool".

@Bradv: I know it shows me as the first editor. That's pretty normal for a deleted article restored directly into draft space. The problem is not that it identified me as the author, it's that it assumes that any author of an article needs to be welcomed to Wikipedia, and that they need have the AfD process explained to them, and that they need to be reminded to sign their posts. I find that templating experienced editors makes the templater look ridiculous. Perhaps they should be reminded to preview their additions to other users' talk pages. And if you're no going to tell me that the tool doesn't allow that, then I'm going to emphatically tell you that it isn't working correctly. --RexxS (talk) 18:17, 18 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

RexxS, yeah there's unfortunately no way around it using the Page Curation tool, unless you count rushing to the editor's page and removing the template as a way around it. Hi RexxS, first, it's usually polite to provide a link to what you are referring to. Second, the NPP curation tool does not give one the option of not sending the template to the editor who is identified as the article's creator. This is different from the Twinkle tool, which does give one that option. You are correct, templating veteran editors with a "Welcome" is ridiculous, and you have my apologies for that. Since you've brought it to my attention, in the future, if I am reviewing an article at NPP, and I choose to CSD, Prod, or AfD it, I'll switch to the Twinkle tool so I can avoid that issue in the future. I don't give a flying dingo's kidneys how badly designed the tool is. When you use it, you take responsibility for the edits made. No, it's my fault. I am normally assiduous about providing links, but I'd forgotten that if you're using an automated tool, you often only know that it's going to notify the "article creator", and of course it wouldn't be at all obvious to you that the templates ended up on my page. RexxS, what's wrong with restoring it in place and then moving it to draft so the history is preserved? That's how everyone else does it, as that is what is required by our copyright attribution policy. @Bradv: As it needed considerable more work to be viable, I thought it best to avoid putting it into mainspace even for a short time, so I restored it directly into Draft. I'll make sure that I restore to mainspace in future to avoid what went wrong this time. Thanks for restoring the rest of the edit history, but I think we're still missing some revisions between 2016 and 2020.

Okay, found it. I remember now I became involved because .karellian-24 asked RHaworth to refund Raul Catinas which RHaworth had deleted – see User talk:RHaworth #Raul Catinas – and I've been trying to help mop up those sort of requests as he's not editing much nowadays. RexxS, okay, all fixed up. I deleted Raul Cătinaș, and then restored just the versions going back to the version you copy-and-pasted. Then I restored Raul Catinas and merged its entire history into Raul Cătinaș. Now the history is accurate, and attribution is preserved. Thank you! P.S. Please SEE THIS, Cătinaș was the only fighter on the card without a Wikipedia page until creation. He has also fought at the K-1 World Grand Prix 2012 in Tokyo Final 16. K-1 was an organisation that reunited the best heavyweights in the world. We had no rankings, but we can assume he could have been around the 10th rank so it should pass the rule "been ranked in the world top 10 by an independent publication". Liverkick ceased to exist, and Combat Press (Kickboxing) was created only some years ago. Kickboxing is covered less by media than is the UFC in the USA. I suggest some wisdom and indulgence, please. Thom Harinck, longest coach in the world and one of the best in the history of the sport, names him the "White Tyson" and "perhaps the hardest white hitter in heavyweight history". So being not just fighting in 2 K-1 finals, but also being considered an incredibly heavy hitter by Harinck could be notable.

The note from the admin was that it was refunded "of deleted article into draft space - this MUST be worked upon to substantially improve it or it will be deleted again." Aonami Line

Hi,

Wanted to discuss the redirects of the Aonami Line stations. From my understanding & research (WP:RAILOUTCOMES, WP:STATION), heavy rail stations are generally considered notable, especially when the stations are in major metropolises, have large, multiple floor station buildings and serve thousands of people a day. We have tens of thousands of articles of less notable stations and we keep them. It's only generally stations that were/are just a sign on a post that get deleted/merged. The general consensus disagrees on that viewpoint though [1] [2]. As long we can establish with sources that the station exists it meets notability guidelines, as we have to consider that these stations likely have Japanese offline or historical sources. The state of these articles could definitely need improvement, but not to the point where we should replace them with redirects. Though, I've updated Arakogawa-kōen Station with an two additional sources from a TV channel website & government statistical website to further establish notability. Deletion discussions are not "general consensus" – see WP:CONLOCAL. The necessity of basing articles on secondary sources is policy, while WP:SNGs are guidelines. WP:RAILOUTCOMES has not been vetted by the community, and WP:STATION is an essay. Restoration of three re-directs

Hello, I'm Blue Riband. I'm assuming you've come out of retirement given your recent activity. I noticed that you restored three re-directs: The Charade (D'Angelo song), Jonathan Galkin, and Heart of a Champion (song). Erprert had initially made them with edit summaries that they "didn't seem notable". However in cases where an article fails WP:GNG should we not nominate it for AfD? A unilateral re-direct effectively "blanks" the page as it hides the text from view to the casual user. You noted in your restoration of the re-directs that unsourced material can be removed anytime. I agree that there is a lot of unsourced stuff on Wikipedia that flies under the radar and languishes for years. Hi Blue Riband - AfD is unnecessary in cases like this, for the most part. Removing all content in a problematic article and replacing it with a redirect is common practice. Reverting to a redirect, or simply creating a redirect out of an existing article is not bypassing AfD, it is simply not wasting the time of other editors. The moving to a redirect is not a judgement on notability, merely a judgement on the caliber, quantity, or quality of the citations currently in place in the article. Once uncited material is removed it is encumbent on the editor who wishes to restore it to provide references. In 2 of the 3 articles you mention, there was not a single source, and in the third only a single source to Amazon, hardly a source to go towards notability. Feel free to work on those articles if you feel that they are notable, and you can find sourcing to back that up. Hope this explains things. And by the way... still considering whether or not to come out of retirement, but I have some extra time now and thought I'd put my hand in for a bit.Onel5969 ^{TT me} 00:04, 24 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the detailed response as I was wondering if there was a situation of an alternate account on the part of Erpert. (A "retired" editor reverting the same three articles did look a bit suspicious.) As for the re-directs, I agree that none of the three are worth keeping as stand alone articles. I'm just frustrated with the AfD process because an article that (to me) clearly fails GNG will end up being retained by default if there is no clear editorial consensus to delete it. Not that it might have multiple defenders (which sometimes does happen) but there are no comments other than that of the nominating editor. Hi. First, regarding restoring the page, sorry, no. Wikipedia has notability guidelines, which the article's subject simply doesn't meet. As much as I appreciate the votes of confidence, I wonder if endorsing other reviewers' PROD tags is the best use of our time given the length of the backlog. Speedy deletion of Node (singer)

I was informed of the deletion of Node article after I saw the article taken off as a copyright infringement. Didn't have a few hours to help save it. But did it occur to all these colleagues behind this decision (just a handful 2-3 colleagues) that the page that is pointed out https://krposts.com/block/ycqf5J44SWgTvMeO1lQ-2w is the one that copied from the Wikipedia article? I recognize the style of the text and it is my Wikipedia style. The page pinpointed is a message board https://krposts.com/ that is a relatively well known message board on Kurdish subjects and they are notorious for copying Wikipedia articles by "copy and paste"? No poster on that message board would have troubled himself or herself to do the necessary research for all that information. The earliest message in the comments section was just 3 months ago whereas our article has been there for quite a long time. You see, what happened is some poster likes the singer and rapper Node from Denmark of Kurdish origin, so he/she pasted what he/she readily found in Wikipedia being oh so happy Node is mentioned on our project. Now because of that copy paste he/she did out of his/her stupid innocent jubilation of seeing something by his name in Wikipedia, that specific copy paste post was used as proof of copyright infringement and resulted in the demise of the article altogether and speedily at that without giving me the chance to respond. So now with our trigger-happy superficial non-discussion of a few hours ago, Wikipedia loses the biography of a Kurdish Danish singer and rapper. So his/her action of copying our article backfired on him/her and he/she was deprived and the whole Wikipedia readership is deprived of any feedback on Node. I am not writing this to blame anybody. But I am so sad we have come to this level that whenever we see a foreign name, we suddenly are over-concerned. This singer rapper started in 2012 and has had tens of charted hits in Danish Hitlisten chart which you can find here https://danishcharts.dk/showinterpret.asp?interpret=Node from 2016 onwards to these days and Wikipedia readers are now deprived of any information on him based on a message board that copied from us and not the reverse. I am getting really tired of this project's obvious sloppiness time and time again when it comes to lesser known non-English language artists. They are already underrepresented in English Wikipedia and we are making it worse like here. But you know what? Let it stay cancelled. I mean what's that big deal. One artist more or one artist less. Hi Werldwayd Yes, I thought it might be, since I rarely find issues with your articles. However the site in question says it owns the copyright. I have no way of checking for checking if a particular website is a WP:MIRROR of WP. I used to have a tool which helped in establishing which came first, but that tool is now a dead link. The biggest proof ours is the original is that the comments are very recent on the krposts dot com page which means that their page is actually the culprit in taking our material. Message boards just live on copy paste particularly Wikipedia. It's the easiest thing to do, copyright or no copyright. Our page of this artist is some time back although I have no way of knowing it now as it is completely deleted. Thanks for pinging Jimfbleak to take a new look on the circumstances. If the page is reestablished solving this misunderstanding, I could at least add more references and updates on the charting discography of Node and remove copyrighted materials if any. I also don't like arguing too often in discussion pages. It's just not my type. But I appreciate your help. It's just that speedy deletions are so unfair as I can't be on my Wikipedia page all the time and we just get one day at best. I like more the AfD discussions. New content added in Chasten Buttigieg page

Hello Onel5969, I am wondering why you reverted Chasten Buttigieg to a redirect stating "Nothing new in this article since AfD closed as redirect" when new content has, in fact, been added. Chasten Buttigieg just published his first book which has received substantial coverage in a large number of major news organizations, some of which were used as new sources. This coverage has been focused on him and his book, not his husband. In addition, his well known status as an activist has received significant coverage besides just his relation to his husband, much of which has happened after the presidential campaign concluded. Together it is clear that, at the very least, the redirect discussion should be reopened; as authors which significant coverage, which Chasten now is, are considered notable enough to have their own pages. I found myself at User_talk:Maxeto0910 to leave a note about stubs, and for some reason had a look at Draft:G. G. Anderson which you'd draftified as "Undersourced, incubate in draftspace ". It has a couple of substantial magazine articles about him, and there are articles in five other wikipedias such as de.wiki. In fact this English version is better sourced than most. By draftifyiing it you also wasted the work of the editor who created a redirect from his alternative name Gerd Grabowski (and there may be more - according to de.wiki's discography he used several names). . Of those two articles, one is an interview, which is considered a primary source, and therefore doesn't go to notability. The second article consisted of three short paragraphs, so felt it was very poorly sourced. Additionally, very little in the draft was actually supported by either article's content. I felt the article has merit (which would be indicated by its appearance in 5 other Wikis, as well as the content of the two existing sources); it does not meet English Wikipedia's standards either for references showing notability, or references verifying content, or for footnotes; and even though it had a little correction recently, it hadn't truly seen any improvement in over a month. I felt that it was pretty much a poster child for draftification. Perhaps I'm missing something. I understand your point, Deepfriedokra, I'm just saying that I've seen dozens of speedy tags added to articles which were already at AfD, and in every single instance they were removed, due to the fact that they were already at AfD. Neither AfD nor CSD state an opinion on this matter. Although CSD does state, "If an editor other than the creator removes a speedy deletion tag in good faith, it should be taken as a sign that the deletion is not uncontroversial and another deletion process should be used." Since it is already part of another deletion process, one might say this has already occurred. Maybe either CSD or AfD should clearly state what the proper procedure should be in this instance, such as WP:PROD does, "It must never be used simultaneously with a deletion discussion". Hello Onel,

Bang & Olufsen is an respectable hifi-manufacturer. I had the interest, who is/ was the founder. This article is based on the one of Danish wikipedia. You may be right, more references are worthwhile, but please see the Danish original. I visited a wp-meeting (in Germany) and it is quite usual translate articles. This was much work, you may imagine. I think the Danish books named in the Danish original will not help the English readers; of course it is or possible to add them.

And there are many articles in wp that need references, but they are not removed to draft room. From my point of view the removal to draft is too hard. The putting of the citation box is much more useful. So please undo the removal.

Last but not least I'm no employee of Bang and Olufsen, and hifi is not my business, a hobby. (It is strongly discouraged to write about yourself or your own business ... does not apply)

This is problematic, because of two reasons: 1) We want the film's Wikipedia entry to be similar in all of its three language appearances (Hebrew, English and German). 2) The film website may not always be there, or be accessible. It happened in the past that the website went down for quite some time and we didn't know it. Why should the public be refrained from knowing the most relevant places in which this film was screened when wishing to assess and/or be impressed by its importance and/or relevance? I would like to ask you to reconsider and bring back the list as it appeared originally. Onel5969, Since you asked, I usually use "we" in order to be modest and not talk about myself as the reason for something. In this case, I used "we" also because I represent a team of VOLUNTARY 'memory agents' for someone who died 77 years back, after personally saving and being involved in the saving of many many thousands of people. His story was either never told or completely forgotten. WE came to change that. He was not a family member, nor does telling his story have ANY commercial intention. It's all about spreading a story WE believe, has universal values. That was and still is the intention of the film we created. Indeed the Wikipedia is not an advertising platform, but it is, so I still hope, the best place to get correct and immediate information for educating the general public. Just like for other feature films, people detail the cast and nobody blames them for "advertising" the actors, a list of major screenings is nothing but a quick way to allow the readers to get some impression of the quality of the film. It doesn't conflict with any of the Wikipedia principles. And if it is not clear from the above, there is absolutely nothing to do with PAID-CONTRIBUTION. I'm in this project for the last 10 years, and haven't received a dime, for the THOUSANDS of hours I've put in so far. That's why I care. I hope you understand. Ophirbaer, hi. Yes it is an interesting story, but WP does have some guidelines and policy. One of them is WP:INDISCRIMINATE. Part of the reason is to prevent exactly what you are trying to do. Lists of non-important stuff (and when I say non-important, I'm talking about to an average reader, not an ardent fan or supporter), do not belong on WP. You could return a shorter list, comprised of only those that have WP links, like UK Jewish Film Festival, as long as you provide an independent source showing the film was screened there. Simply linking to the Documentary's website is simply advertising. The same is true about the folks who were interviewed. Irrelevant to the average reader. I've also taken a look at the Wilfrid Israel article, which is woeful shape in terms of referencing. Please remember that anything which is uncited or not cited by an independent, reliable source, can be removed at any time. Mccapra, while reasonably sourced, they are all the sort of routine sports coverage one sees, nothing to show notability. The question then became whether or not he passes WP:NKICK. None of his fights meet criteria 1, and he doesn't meet criteria 3. The issue with the SN is that it doesn't clarify what constitutes a major publication. It was deprodded by the rationale, "he was ranked in the top ten by a two major publications, Combat Press and Liverkick". However neither of those magazines has a WP, so I felt they did not qualify. That being said, since it was questioned, I left it for other reviewers to take a look at, since I don't know how authorative those magazines are. Wikidata links to Wikipedia redirects

Wikidata can't link to a Wikipedia redirect; it goes to the target instead. But in instances where the the target is different, and a Wikidata item exists, the redirect must be temporarily disabled to allow the linking. Once done, the Wikipedia redirect can be restored. (These are found in Category:Redirects connected to a Wikidata item.) Anyway, that's just background info, and I was able to link Dance studio before the revert. Reverts on Changes in Sahaj Marg & Heartfulness Meditation pages

I noticed you have reverted my changes on Sahaj Marg and Heartfulness Meditation pages made yesterday, with comment given as "Rev cut and paste move". Can you please give more details on the reason as I did not understand exactly? If your concern was that the changes were made by cut/paste of large text, then yes actually I spent hours crafting the wiki text of the article on a text editor before, and then I cut/paste that on the page, as it's just easier to edit in a editor like Notepad++. Also these changes were discussed in the talk pages of both of these pages, in fact since almost 1.5 yrs ago. Please note the practice of Sahaj Marg is more popularly known as Heartfulness Meditation now and there are plenty of good verifiable secondary resources are available, hence the need to swap the content and redirects between the two article. Xiantec, Hi. What you did is what is called a "cut and paste" move, which is not allowed on WP. That's a hard and fast rule, and has to do with preserving historical attribution. I thought I put a link to the policy in the edit summary, but here it is again, WP:CUTANDPASTE. What you need to do is ask to have the current redirect deleted, and then move the existing page, Sahaj Marg, to Heatfulness Meditation. I hope that helps. From what I've seen, that usually ends up happening during a page swap if one of the pages has a talk page and the other doesn't, and you do the moves with the "Move associated talk page" box checked. Crusading

Hi there, you reverted the removal of the redirect on Crusading and the addition of content with the comment that the info was covered in the target. Understandable, if you weren't involved in the many painful discussions on the Crusades talk page about that article's scope. Consensus is (currently) that the scope of that article is the crusades in the Holy Land c1096-1291. That means there is a requirement for an article to cover the paradigm of Crusading that begins before and continues long after that period as well as spreading across Europe, Africa and Asia. Titles were considered less important than content.

On the back of this some of the wider content needs excising from Crusades.

Norfolkbigfish, yes it does make sense, but this seems like quite a bit of a WP:CFORK. There should be a discussion regarding this prior to creating an entire article which is basically the same as another. It would be one thing if there were other examples of Crusading, other than everything that is already contained in the existing article. That discussion did take place. Consensus was there was a need for two articles:

One on Crusades in the Levant between 1096 and 1291;
One on wider Crusading that included the Northern Crusades, political crusades in Italy, wars called crusades against the Ottomans, wars against heretics, the Reconquista in Spain/Portugal, the European Wars of Religion as well as the theory and ideology.

Premios CEC

Hello Onel5969, you recently reverted the edit I made on the Premios CEC page, essentially deleting an entire article's worth of work in just one click. Your argument is that there aren't sufficient in-depth citations to support the article. I would contend that there are various online publications which could support each mention of an award win in the article, and instead of deleting the page, you could have tried to improve it by looking up a few of these, or simply added a hatnote stating that the article needed further citations. I understand where you're coming from, presumably, in your attempt to assure that Wikipedia isn't cluttered up with poorly cited articles, and I've done my share of this as well, but the Premios are the oldest film award ceremony in Spain, second in prominence only to the Goya Awards, and as such, I would say they deserve their own page. Perhaps you could also be a little more circumspect about deleting the work of others in such a wholesale way without first trying to make improvements to said work or seeking dialogue with the author of the work. Revirvlkodlaku, sorry, not my job to work on articles in which I have zero interest. The work is not gone, it is still in the history. If you want to work on article to bring it up to mainspace standards, the place to do that is in draft. If they are the oldest film awards in Spain, then they certainly meet gng, and so an article is warranted. What I understand from the admins is that wp:toosoon is applied to the proposed arenas, and that category might disappear. The arenas and stadiums UNDER CONSTRUCTION like SC-Stadion are ok. Hi,

I noticed you made the page Stephanie Cmar into a redirect to Top Chef: All-Stars L.A. because "no notability outside show". I was wondering why you thought this was the case. The page clearly showed that she was a contestant on two other seasons of Top Chef (ie. not just notable for one event/one season of Top Chef). There are many sources referring to Cmar (albeit, not cited in the previous version of the article) that predate Top Chef: All-Stars L.A. by several years. Boston Magazine 2014 Article/Other Boston Magazine 2014 Article, 2016 Eater article, 2014 NYT article supporting that Cmar competed in Top Chef season 10, 2017 Mic Article supporting Cmar's notability for Top Chef season 11 calling her "one of the most screwed-over contestants in show history". I could list more, but I don't want to overwhelm you.

I appreciate that your editing is bold, but I think that in light of the existence of such sources it doesn't make sense to have Cmar redirect to Top Chef: All-Stars LA. Kanedbender, you'd have to ask the admin who actually deleted the article. It depends on why it was deleted, since you didn't provide a link, I'm not sure what the rationale was. College sports

I saw you write somewhere that you're staying away from reviewing college sports bios. IMO the issue there is that the routine level of coverage for top players at the college level is basically indistinguishable from pro coverage for all but the most elite "changed the history of the sport" players. I'm quickly approaching that same point regarding fictional characters, who only get coverage in industry magazines, which are then used to show GNG. With the sports articles, I'm inclined to live and let live and just mark them approved if they meet the guideline, encyclopedic value aside. Fictional characters I feel like I'm usually a bit stricter on, since it's easy enough to collect non-notable characters at a character list page. Hi Onel5969, Recently you have change the stub content of The Karski Report to a redirect to his author Claude Lanzmann arguing not WP:NFILM. I am not agree with your criteria, bc I think that the article meets the needed attributes for notability : "2. The film is historically notable, as evidenced by one or more of the following: * Publication of at least two non-trivial articles, at least five years after the film's initial release." --> There are non-trivial articles in "The Guardian" here, "The New Yorker" here, "Variety" here, "Indiwire" here, etc. The documentary was also projected at the Berlinale (Berlin film festival) , and at The Lincoln center. I know the article is just a stub now, and must grow maybe as the French equivalent fr:Le Rapport Karski (film), but the subject meets the notability criteria to have his own article. There is a user who has created an account with the purpose to target and vandalise the page. They inserted the proposal for deletion. JPA24, well, the first thing I would say is stop putting unencyclopedic material in articles. Even in the AfD it was noted that a large portion of the article was based on tabloid coverage, which should never be used in blp's. This can get infuriating to editors who look at WP as an encyclopedia, rather than a fan magazine or fan wiki. Second, just maintain your calm, don't try to bludgeon people, just state your case. It looks like the other editor understands they can't re-open the discussion, and instead is editing it to trim the tabloid stuff. Once they have removed it, remember that as per WP:BURDEN, you can't re-add it, unless you do so with a reliable source. You brought them up at AIV (although I'm not sure that is the correct venue), so an admin will take a look. Again, be patient, and be wary of showing WP:OWNERSHIP tendencies. Hope this helps. Thank you for the advice. I'm trying to improve the article everyday and I can now see the user has made changes that I think are objective and overall improves the quality of the article. If you look at the page history and edit summaries, I'm sure you can agree there seems to be some kind of targeting taking place. Of course, I see many people edit this page, but never with the same fury behind some of the edits this user is making. Plus, you can see they created an account to initially blank the page, as it was protected, it wasn't possible to do this via IP editing.
