    Submitting a Wikipedia page

I need help with submitting this Wikipedia profile: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valencia_Rush — Preceding unsigned comment added by ValenciaRush413 (talkcontribs) 00:00, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ValenciaRush413 You took a chance and moved it to main space yourself, what do you need help with? Wikipedia does not have "profiles", not a single one. Wikipedia has articles. 331dot (talk) 00:09, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm trying to figure out how to have the page be published to pop up on the search engine. How do I do that or does it take awhile for it show up once I move it to the main space? ValenciaRush413 (talk) 00:11, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ValenciaRush413 It takes time for it to show up in search engines, and it also must be formally reviewed. However, there are serious problems with the article that would have been detected had you not moved the article to the encyclopedia yourself. I strongly advise you to allow it to be put back as a draft for further work. 331dot (talk) 00:15, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@ValenciaRush413, the article has typos ("started of homeschooled"), missing words ("She has taken assessments to confirm that she does ADHD") and other issues as @331dot implies... such as being largely unreferenced. I would do some copyediting, but I'll wait to see if it survives. 73.127.147.187 (talk) 02:29, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Not to mention your apparent disregarding of friendly warnings on your talk page about conflict of interest in the only article you have edited. Bazza (talk) 09:00, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Using LISTEN to play sound

I've put a WAV file in Thunder, near the top, across from the table of contents, but it doesn't display the arrow to play the file. How can I get the arrow to display? (This is the first time I've used "listen".) Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 05:01, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It probably should be a .ogg file.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 06:44, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, that fixed it. Strangely, I was able to use a WAV file in Jet airliner. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 06:56, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's probably something wrong with that wav file. Normally wav files are transcoded to ogg and mp3 automatically (as more efficient and better supported), but the transcode status shows that they have not been completed and actually trying to reset them is causing an error. That seems to indicate a problem somewhere in the pipeline... —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 13:51, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Can it be a FLAC file? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 07:00, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

All of the audio files that I have uploaded for use in articles have been .ogg. These are compressed and keep the file size and bit rate down. It isn't really necessary to use lossless formats.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:06, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ogg reduced this file to 11.6% of its original size - pretty strong compression. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 07:10, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To be pedantic, Ogg is a multimedia container format. If your ogg file includes audio, it can be in any of several formats. The audio in question here is probably in Vorbis format. This is often called "ogg vorbis". If you need lossless compression then Flac can be encapsulated in ogg instead. -Arch dude (talk) 15:37, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Biography

I would like to post my biography, but I always get rejected.

So, who can post my biography? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christoph Steidl Porenta (talkcontribs) 09:10, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Christoph Steidl Porenta Per WP:BASIC, quite likely noone. But it depends on if the demanded sources exist. Can you link the 3-5 best sources you know that are at the same time reliably published (WP:RS), independent of you and about you in some detail? This excludes blogs, wikis, your websites, etc, etc. Also, take the time to read WP:ABOUTME. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:19, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I wondered if it might be this person, because it is the only one that produces hits in a web search.[1]. If it is, there isn't enough secondary reliable sourcing to make a Wikipedia article. It's the usual problem of WP:AVOIDCREATE.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 11:56, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @Ianmacm This [2] could very well be a WP:GNG-point. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:28, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And this:[3]. There may be a case for an article here. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:30, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You can probably post your biography somewhere, but probably not on Wikipedia. That is not generally what we're here for. I suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:Alternative outlets. Shantavira|feed me 13:35, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL. It's not impossible, but the sourcing does look rather thin and people should generally not be creating articles about themselves anyway, per WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 15:30, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
In a BLP situation, "sourcing does look rather thin" is a pretty good indication we may be better off not having an article on them. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 22:57, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Small rendering error in the page preview for 1968 Thule Air Base B-52 crash

The page preview for the article linked should probably be:

On 21 January 1968, an aircraft accident involving...

    But is instead:

On 21 January 1968, an aircraft accident ; Danish: Thuleulykken) involving...

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's minor, but rather irritating lol INDT (talk) 11:06, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Apart from the double parentheses (which I've fixed), it looks fine to me: first sentence now reads On 21 January 1968, an aircraft accident, sometimes known as the Thule affair or Thule accident (/ˈtli/; Danish: Thuleulykken), involving a United States Air Force (USAF) B-52 bomber occurred near Thule Air Base in the Danish territory of Greenland. See MOS:DUALPRON. Bazza (talk) 11:22, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've just realised that you stated "page preview" (which I don't normally use). It seemed to have trouble with the double set of parentheses in the first sentence; which I appear to have unintentionally fixed. Bazza (talk) 11:27, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Creating an article over a redirect to a different person

I'm working on Jesse Lawson, but currently Jesse Lawson is a redirect to a band in which there is a guitarist named Jesse Lawson. Is it fine to just move the article over the redirect when it's ready, or is there something else I should do? ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 14:28, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about doing anything yourself. When you decide to submit the draft for review (using the submission template, which the draft doesn't yet contain) the Reviewer will, if they decide to accept it (which although I'm not a reviewer seems to me likely, it looks good), themself sort out disambiguation and redirect issues as appropriate. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.101.71 (talk) 16:21, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to move it to mainspace myself, and I'm a reviewer, and I don't know if it even needs disambiguation. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:24, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing of any consequence seems to link to the existing redirect [4], and I don't think there is any policy against moving an article for a clearly notable topic over a redirect for an obscure one. The article just needs a hatnote saying "for Jesse Lawson the guitarist, see Sleeping with Sirens", or something of the sort. AndyTheGrump (talk) 16:38, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you kindly. That's done. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:06, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Are users allowed to delete reasonable comments other users leave on their Talk pages?

Hi there - I have been following a situation on the ThorCon_nuclear_reactor where User:Wickey was wrestling with people over things like having a notice that some of the content came from Citizendium. I went to Wickey's Talk page thinking to leave a comment, and happened to look at its history, where I noted that Wickey seemed to have DELETED two comments left on his Talk page by User:Macquigg (with whom Wickey has been disputing over on the Talk page of ThorCon nuclear reactor). Is this allowed? It seems like Wickey is trying to obscure the fact that they made reckless edits on the ThorCon article including removing the Citizendium license notice without gaining any consensus from other writers. It looks like very bad wiki behavior to me. Can someone please take a look? Wickey's entire enteraction about the Thorcon article seems unnecessarily heated and impolite, and then deleting genuine communications from another user made me personally reluctant to engage with Wickey myself.Harborsparrow (talk) 17:43, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

WP:OWNTALK, users can remove almost anything they'd like from their talk pages. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 17:49, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. More info at WP:BLANKING. User talk page convo is the first step in WP:CONDUCTDISPUTE; if the user won't engage there, and further dispute resolution is needed, see the policy for next steps. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 17:51, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, this is helpful. I'll take it then that the user was aware of the content of the messages they deleted and did not want them seen on the Talk page. Good enough. It startled me; in 15 years on here, it's never dawned on me to delete what people put on my Talk page, even if I wasn't best pleased by it. So, good to know.Harborsparrow (talk) 17:56, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the purpose of a user talk page is to talk to the user. If the user in question has deleted something from their talk page, they must have visited the page to see the comment, and read it. Whether or not they respond, they can be held responsible for having seen the information, so if (for example) they were warned to stop doing something, deleting the warning then obviates them from saying "I didn't see the warning". If they deleted it, they saw it. --Jayron32 18:54, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    History merge question

There is a paid editor who created a new article Draft:Switch Mobility using content copied from the article Optare. After a lot of back and forth with this editor on their talk page, my thoughts are that it would be best to merge some of the relevant content from the draft article into the Optare article since they are the same entity, and then request that Optare be moved to article title Switch Mobility to reflect the new name of the company. However, since the paid editor wrote a bunch of new material in the draft article, I understand the history of that article needs to be preserved so I am thinking a history merge would be the way to go (but I could be wrong).

I am not an expert on history merges, so I want to make sure I am doing it correctly. Should I be:

    1. Merging the material with an edit summary linking the appropriate revision from which I am getting the material from, and then
    2. Requesting a history merge upon completion using {{Histmerge}}?

Please feel free to trout me if there is a completely different procedure I should be using, or if I am missing something really obvious. I just don't want a make a mess. Thank you. Aoi (青い) (talk) 20:13, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Optare is much better written. Draft:Switch Mobility is written in PR-speak. Optare manufactures buses, while Switch Mobility "offers solutions". If there's any relevant content in the draft, you may need to translate it into plain English. Maproom (talk) 20:38, 21 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I definitely can't argue with your view. Maybe it would be better to just move the page without merging, and just updating the article without regard to the draft. That would also make the history merge issue moot. Thanks for your response. Aoi (青い) (talk) 02:32, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Change picture -- Jeffrey James

Hello, I have attempted to upload a current picture from 2022 of Australian television presenter, Jeffrey James. I have added it to the Wikipedia files for images and released the copyright. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Jeffrey_James-2022.jpg#filelinks But it does not attach to the profile https://en.wikipedia.org /wiki/Jeffrey_James Can someone please assist me in publishing the image on the selected page. I hold the copyright of the image as advised in the license release. Thank you. (PS: My attempt to do this resulted in the deletion in an earlier photograph from seven years ago. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gweiloasiaguy (talkcontribs) 12:30, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gweiloasiaguy To hold the copyright, generally you must have taken the image. If you took the image, do you have an association with Mr. James? 331dot (talk) 12:39, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Gweiloasiaguy. Some sort of formal verification is going to be need to confirm that you own the copyright of this image. Generally, it's the person who takes a photo who is considered to be the copyright holder in most cases. Did you take this photo? If you did, then just follow the instructions given in the template I added to the file's page. If you took this photo and you've already published somewhere on line (for example, on your personal webiste), then if you can provide a link to that website which shows that the image has been released under the same license that you used for Wikipedia, then that could be another way to verify your copyright ownership. If you didn't take the image yourself, then you can't really upload it to Wikipedia without having the copyright holder email their consent to Wikipedia or providing a link to a website that shows they've released the file under a license acceptable to Wikipedia. Just for reference, most of the images you find online are going to be considered to be under copyright (even if there's no copyright notice) unless it clearly says they're not; moreover, many websites host images that aren't the original content of the website which means the website doesn't own the copyright over such images. So, if you didn't take this photo yourself, you'll need to find out did and then get that person to release the photo under a license that Wikipedia accepts. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:01, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to create an article directly?

I've been on Wikipedia for a little while now and have even made my own article through AfC. I'm autoconfirmed, so I'm allowed. I looked at the FAQ and was led to user subpages, but the tutorial was 12 years old and I don't know how I could create an article directly through that. So basically, how do I create an article without going through AfC?

    Asparagusus (talk) 13:30, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Asparagusus If the subject you want to write about is already mentioned in another Wikipedia article, you can turn that mention into a link, which will appear red after you click Publish. You can then click the red link to begin creating the article. You can also edit your personal sandbox and then move its contents into the encyclopedia yourself with the Move function(not a bad idea as you can then save your progress gradually and have less fear of deletion). 331dot (talk) 13:35, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks!
    Asparagusus (talk) 14:40, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The way I have created every article I've written has been by creating a user space draft. Type the title you want to create into the search bar. You will be told that the page doesn't exist - click on the link to create it, and it should give you the option to create a draft in your user space. Work it up until you're done, then move it into article space. Sure, you can create it in article space if you want, but it will be out immediately into the review queue, so if you don't get it finished in one go and come back to it an hour later, you might find a bunch of tags on it - better, in my view, to knock it into decent shape before releasing it to the perils of review. COI determination sought

I am seeking advice or, better still, a determination as to whether my direct edits to the article on Joseph DeCarolis would constitute a WP:COI. Having read that policy, I do not remotely believe they could. But another contributor, on limited information, has stated that there is indeed a conflict of interest situation. I would therefore like to resolve this question before proceeding, lest events deteriorate. Most of the necessary background can be found at Talk:Joseph DeCarolis#Sandbox development. Beyond that, I have a general desire to improve the coverage of significant persons in the energy domain, as evidenced by having started articles on Carl-A. Fechner and Hartmut Bossel. My edits to the page on Professor DeCarolis fall into that camp too. I am also happy to expand on the background that I have provided as required. Finally to reinforce that there is no friendship involved and my academic contact has been negligible. The sum total of that contact is acknowledged in Morrison (2018:62) (doi:10.1016/j.esr.2017.12.010) thus: "Mark Howells and Joe DeCarolis kindly confirmed their motivations for releasing OSeMOSYS and TEMOA respectively." And that was five years back. Looking forward, I am highly unlikely to collaborate academically with Professor DeCarolis given his current move from academia to public service. I trust a satisfactory resolution can be found — and I do value the privilege of being able to contribute to Wikipedia in my subject area of energy system analysis, open data, and rapid decarbonization. RobbieIanMorrison (talk) 16:12, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, RobbieIanMorrison. I do not think that you have a COI that should prevent you from editing that article. The best place to involve other editors in that assessment is the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. Cullen328 (talk) 16:54, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

FWIW, I agree that having once had an email exchange with someone, and working in the same academic discipline as them, is not enough to give you a substantive conflict of interest for the purposes of editing here. Girth Summit (blether) 17:22, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

redirecting one existing Wikipedia article to another

I'm having difficulty understanding the process for redirecting one existing Wikipedia article (i.e., Latromirus) to another (Parioscorpio). I also want to delete the content of the Latromirus article.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Kennethcgass (talkcontribs)

I'm not sure if you mean you don't know how to perform the action, or if you mean you don't know how to determine when it is appropriate/when there is consensus to perform the action. From a purely technical standpoint if you wanted Latromirus to redirect to Parioscorpio, (and you are using a computer instead of a mobile device) you would push Edit on Latromirus, click in the edit window, hit CTRL+A to select all the text of the article, delete it, and then type #REDIRECT [[Parioscorpio]], then publish the page. That said, there is obviously more to it than that. For example, Latromirus is not mentioned anywhere in Parioscorpio, so someone searching for information on Latromirus would be confused at being redirected there. I would start with a merge discussion on Talk:Latromirus, wherein you lay out your reasoning for wanting it to redirect to Parioscorpio, see if there is consensus among editors of the two pages, and talk about what needs to be merged where. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 18:45, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My question pertained to how to perform the action. See my response to R. S. Shaw. Kenneth C Gass (talk) 03:58, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Kennethcgass: After looking at some of the material, I agree with ONUnicorn that the appropriate thing is to start a merge discussion on the talk page. It looks like Latromirus doesn't currently warrant a separate article, as it is not officially described or named in the literature. The situation seems confused about the material described in the unofficially published writing: a part of the fossil material is claimed in a published paper to belong to Parioscorpio ( Anderson et al. 2021) leaving one to wonder about the rest. The shown reconstruction to my inexpert eye looks different enough to be a different species, although perhaps of the same genus, but the whole supposed Latromirus may be a melange of several different organisms and perhaps not reliably reconstructed. I think the two unofficially published papers and the associated name should have a mention somewhere (hence a merge), but maybe in Waukesha Biota instead of Parioscorpio. OTOH, maybe the two papers were too preliminary to warrant mention anywhere. (I note the authors of the preprint are 4 of 5 authors of one of the Parioscorpio published papers.) --R. S. Shaw (talk) 22:51, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Braddy and Dunlop 2021 (i.e., the most recently published peer-reviewed study covering this subject) attributed all of the material that Wendruff assigned to "Latromirus" in his dissertation to Parioscorpio, and B&D fully explained the rationale. It therefore makes most sense to redirect Latromirus to Parioscorpio, and to make an appropriate statement in the Parioscorpio article. Kenneth C Gass (talk) 03:43, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    {{Episode table}} custom parameter

Teahouse might not have been the appropriate venue, so I'm taking this here. I would like to add a custom "Length (minutes)" parameter to the {{Episode table}} / {{Episode list}} templates at Salad Fingers#Episodes. I understand that you can add custom parameters with "aux" and "auxT", but I can't seem to get it to work properly. Whenever I try, the custom parameter either replaces an existing one or doesn't show up at all. Would be greatly appreciated if anyone could advise. Throast (talk | contribs) 12:52, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Throast. I think you're on the right track with aux and auxT, and maybe the behavior you've described will continue happening until you populate the data in at least one row of the Episode list template. Here's how the code should begin, I think:
    {{Episode table |overall= |title= |airdate= |aux1= |aux1T=Length (minutes) |episodes= {{Episode list | EpisodeNumber = 1 | Title = Spoons | OriginalAirDate = {{Start date|2004|07|01|df=dmy}} | Aux1 = 1:51 | ShortSummary        = Salad Fingers explains how touching rust stimulates him, and that he holds a particular love of spoons. He asks a boy to see if he has any rusty spoons. The child responds in screeches, at which point Salad Fingers leaves. }} }}
    Which renders as:
    No.TitleLength (minutes)Original air date
    1"Spoons"1:511 July 2004 (2004-07-01)
Salad Fingers explains how touching rust stimulates him, and that he holds a particular love of spoons. He asks a boy to see if he has any rusty spoons. The child responds in screeches, at which point Salad Fingers leaves.

Adding music singles and albums on Wikipedia

How can I upload music on wikipedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.160.25.236 (talk) 15:21, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you own the copyright because you wrote the music AND you are the performer, or you have purchased the copyright and have a written conveyance of the copyright, then you can upload a music file. Owning a copy of the work (e.g., a record, DVD, or mp3 file) does not make you the owner of the copyright. You can also upload a music file if the music is in the public domain because it was recorded before the year 1926, or if the copyright owner has explicitly licensed the work under a compatible free copyright license. Otherwise, do not upload the file, because you will be causing unnecessary work for the volunteers who will delete it. To upload, use the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard, Just as you would for an image. In the highly unlikely event that you have a free-use justification to upload a non-free copyrighted file, then come back here and we can help you with that. -Arch dude (talk) 15:55, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can think of very few reasons why anyone would want to upload a single, let alone an album, to Wikipedia. Has the IP mistaken us for a music pirating forum or something? And if not, perhaps an explanation is needed. Or maybe they are asking about adding an article on a single or an album? AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:29, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
For fair use music samples, the maximum length is 20-30 seconds, and even then the purists insist that the sample is discussed in the article and is not simply decorative.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 19:19, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I added a Gallery of pictures to Thomas Hall (inventor), but the fourth picture is larger than the other three. If it could be reduced somehow by about 70% it would be about the same size as the others. I tried all kinds of things and could not manage that. Is there a graphic expert out there that can reduce this larger image to be somewhat about the same size as the others? Then I think the appearance would look good. Thanks.--Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:10, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Coldwell, Hi there -- I think one of the reasons the fourth one is bigger is that all the images are set up to be the same width (I guess by default, not certain) but the aspect ratio of the fourth image is different and so it's showing up as taller. Here is the documentation page for the Gallery tag, you can probably adjust heights somewhat if you want to make that picture smaller but I actually think it looks fine as-is. Jessamyn (my talk page) 20:16, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think this can be fixed, because "Compound electrotome with clockwork" has a different aspect ratio from the other images. I've reduced the sizes to 150px, otherwise the gallery is taking up a lot of space. The interested reader can click on the desired image for the full size version.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:20, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for help. I do believe the images look better at this reduced size. --Doug Coldwell (talk) 20:28, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How does a page override the edit screen?

    Lock a wiki page.

Can a Wikipedia profile be locked so only the person can make changes himself? There is an ugly battle going on with a wrestler and some jerk doesn’t like what the wrestler said. The wrestler, Danhausen, is funny. He has lots of jokes in interviews. He created his wiki profile the way he wanted it. Some jerk went in and changed it. Making it sound mean and stuff. They don’t get the inside jokes…or don’t like it. It’s just Not cool. Can Danhausen lock his page so no one can edit it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wndr Twin Powers (talkcontribs) 03:52, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This is about Danhausen (wrestler). It's not a "profile", it's an encyclopedia article. The subject of the article should not be editing it himself, as he has a conflict of interest. If he persists, the article may be locked to prevent him from editing it. Maproom (talk) 07:23, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wndr Twin Powers Articles are not protected ("locked") so that only the subject may edit them- in fact, the opposite is more likely to happen if the subject is disruptive, as Maproom notes. 331dot (talk) 07:25, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And the article does not belong to the subject, see WP:OWN. It is about the subject. 331dot (talk) 07:27, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah… ok. So there what about a conflict? There is a “fact” that keeps going back and forth and getting pretty heated. The fact is his height and weight. There is 1 person posting with a reference BUT there is another reference that is different. Actually several references that point to the different one. It’s back and forth and fighting continue off site. If there are multiple internet references that are different, then what can be actually be saved? Got it. It’s actually a “fact” that keeps going back and forth and getting pretty heated. The fact is his height and weight. There is 1 person posting with a reference BUT there is another reference that is different. Actually several references that point to the different one. The editing of this article will go on for days and days. The back and forth and fighting continue off site. @Wndr Twin Powers: This is what the talk page for the article (Talk:Danhausen (wrestler)) is for. I went and reverted your changes for something that is blatantly untrue and unverified by a reliable source, especially since the article is a biography of a living person. The article isn't going to be protected because you want it to be. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 17:19, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If Danhausen wrote his own article, that's something we heavily frown upon due to the obvious conflict of interest involved, especially in an area that is under a sanctions regime. If I were him I would stay a country mile away from anything involving himself or pro wrestling en generale on Wikipedia. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v a little blue Bori 09:32, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reborn (Kavinsky album) moved to mainspace without going through normal drafting process?

Hello - I have a concern that a page was moved into mainspace without going through the normal drafting process. Is this a valid way of creating articles on Wikipedia, and editing them? I imagine it is not. I was working on a draft Draft:Reborn (Kavinsky album) when I saw Reborn (Kavinsky album) appear all of a sudden on the mainspace. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Radlrb (talkcontribs) 05:03, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It is acceptable for an autoconfirmed editor to move a draft to mainspace themselves, or even to create an article from scratch in mainspace. If they do so, they are taking responsibility for ensuring that the article meets Wikipedia's criteria on notability and other matters: if it does not, it is liable to be draftified or deleted. For an inexperienced editor, I would very strongly advise against this practice, as it usually leads to frustration and disappoinmtnet; but for an editor experienced enough to understand the issues, it is fine. ColinFine (talk) 10:09, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Understood, thank you. Radlrb (talk) 12:11, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I nominated this draft for deletion, however I am having trouble creating its MfD subpage. Could you please help me, I followed the instructions on Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion, however some steps seem to not fall through. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Radlrb (talkcontribs) 12:13, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Radlrb: If you wish to delete a draft you have created and there are no substantial edits by others you can request a 'speedy' deletion by either blanking the page (using the edit summary to clarify) or by adding {{Db-g7}} to the top of the markup. This will produce a pink deletion notice, usually effective within a few hours (or sooner). If you enable 'Twinkle' via preferences, this can handle deletion proposals for you. (Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four keyboard tildes like this: ~~~~. Or, you can use the [ reply ] button, which automatically signs posts.). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 12:57, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thank you. I did not create this draft, however. Does it make a difference? Radlrb (talk) 13:08, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you should not use G7 but go via MfD. Eagleash (talk) 16:55, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK. So my original point stands, I am having trouble creating its MfD subpage. It's deletion talk page is not being created after I followed step 1. Radlrb (talk) 17:24, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    article for "Machon Shlomo"

Hello. "Machon Shlomo" used to have its own article. Now I see that it links to a subsection of "Machon Yaakov": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machon_Yaakov#Machon_Shlomo. I presume that the owners deleted the original article so as to merge it into the latter article. But wouldn't this have deleted the original article's history?

What I'm trying to determine is when the original Machon Shlomo article (which had more detail) was deleted. But how do I do this? If it's deleted, there's no historical Wiki archive & index to pull up. Is there perhaps a Wiki history as well for crosslinks that would show when "Machon Shlomo" began linking to a subsection of "Machon Yaakov"? If so, how do I access it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikipediaReaderSince2002 (talkcontribs) 14:49, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@WikipediaReaderSince2002: If you're wondering when the article was deleted, you can go to Machon Shlomo (which isn't a redirect) and a pink edit notice should appear with a deletion log. Looking at it from my side, it looks like it was deleted twice in 2016 for an expired PROD and being a test page. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:56, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)@WikipediaReaderSince2002: On Wikipedia, nothing that is deleted is truely gone for good, it's always at least theoretically possible to restore it, although the exact way depends on the deletion process being used, and there are a couple things which aren't restored. From what I can see, Machon Shlomo was deleted in 2016, once through the proposed deletion process and once as a test page. The former article could be restored following a request at WP:RFU, however it might possibly be in a bad shape given the reason why it was deleted (which I cannot verify as I am not an administrator and therefore cannot access deleted revisions). There is a redirect from Machon Shlomo - The Heiden Institute, however, that one never was something else than a redirect. Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 15:04, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    highlight color of selected links…

hello, wikipedia is wonderful, ty all for it  :)

my question and maybe suggestion for improvement: i select a link (blue-colored text) to explore a topic further. when i return from the link to continue my reading, the color of the link i had selected changes to a very dark almost-black color, making it difficult to find the location of where i had linked-out from in the page of black text.

my question: is there a way that i can modify the color of the returned-to link to be a more obvious color so as to make the link more easily findable upon return? if not, could wikipedia be modified to change the color of the visited link to a more notable color such as red, or some color more identifiable in a sea of black text?

i often find myself drilling-down many levels of discovery while exploring a topic. upon returning up through each level, i find it difficult to find the previous link in the body of text to allow continued reading.

being a retired software engineer with much UI-coding experience, modifying default function to make the previous link more identifiable would seem to be a relatively easy fix. providing the user the abilit to select a post-traversal link color would be a nice, but obviously a more complex modification.

ty for your time. be well and stay safe… markLike2moto (talk) 16:55, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm no expert, but I believe this is done via your browser. You can edit this via HTML (and I suppose on Wikipedia via user:Like2moto/common.js, but I wouldn't know what to change.
