    Editing a page

On the Page of Isaac Abarbanel it says his burial sight is unknown. That is NOT TRUE. I visited is burial site and I have a photograph of the grave. That is my reference. I am an Abarbanel descendant. I visited his gravesite in 2014 accompanied by the local rabbi. I edited this page and you deleted it because of my source. How can this be remedied? I can submit the photo. Abarbaneledit (talk) 02:46, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As a matter of principle, we insist on information coming from published sources, not the assertion of some random person on the internet. Your assertion was not backed by any published source(s). --Orange Mike | Talk 03:30, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Abarbaneledit: However, by convention we consider a gravestone (or other written monument in a public place) to be "published". Therefore you can upload your picture to commons and add it to the article. Go to Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard to see how to upload the picture to commons. As part of the upload process, please be meticulous about the date, time, and location when when you took the picture: This information must be sufficient to allow another interested party to find the grave. I personally prefer to use the precise GPS co-ordinates. -Arch dude (talk) 03:48, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I thought that information engraved on a gravestone is indeed "published" but is not considered "reliable" for use on Wikipedia. First, in most cases there is no way to tell whether the gravestone refers to the subject or to another person with the same name, and second, there is in general no fact-checking done on gravestone inscriptions. (I know that the text inscribed on my mother's gravestone is just whatever I wrote on the cemetery's form, which was accepted with no fact-checking.) For example, Find a Grave is not considered a reliable source, even though most Find a Grave entries include a photo of the gravestone. A photo of a gravestone could be evidence that the gravestone exists, but probably not much more than that. CodeTalker (talk) 21:05, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    anonymous revert without reason?

If someone makes a (bad) revert to an edit, but does so anonymously and with no reason given, am I supposed to engage them on the talk page even if they would not see it unless then have a log-in with a watch page? It concerns this revert. tahc chat 03:18, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Tahc: engage on the article's talk page. Depending on the situation, you may need to revert their revert with a comment to look at the talk page, but be careful of the "three revert" rule (WP:3RR). If you are using valid edit summaries and making an effort on the talk page while the anonymous editor is reverting but not responding, come back here and maybe someone can give you better advice. -Arch dude (talk) 03:38, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Tahc, you can do what I did:
    • assess the edit: it was both against the year-linking policy and ridiculous
    • assess their talk page: a long tale of reversions and ignored warnings
    • fearlessly click the red "Vandalism" link on the diff page
    • leave a final warning on IP user's talk page
When the unconstructive, WP:NOTHERE editing is this bad, there's no need to hesitate. Quisqualis (talk) 06:11, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Quisqualis: what red "Vandalism" link on the diff page? Sounds useful, but I can't see it. Bazza (talk) 09:57, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @Quisqualis It's actually on the article's history page. David10244 (talk) 11:55, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Where can I post

I just finished a fairly in-depth copy-edit of Kalighat painting. I left the references tag up because I suspect there may be good sources in languages I do not speak, and while there are 15 sources the article is quite long, and perhaps relies rather heavily on long lyrical quotes. OTOH two of the authors have an Wikidata entry but no Wikipedia article, so there may be a project there for someone. I was wondering if you could suggest a place to list it. I was looking for, but did not find, a portal for Bengali art, for example. I think that there is the making of a Good Article, but while I enjoyed working on it, I already.have a lot of projects, and I think another better-qualified editor probably could be found for this one? Any suggestions? Elinruby (talk) 04:58, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Elinruby There is a currently active Project at WP:INWB where they have the ambition to make Culture of Bengal a featured article. There ought to be editors who you could reach via one of the Project Talk Pages. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:52, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What you are seeing as a death date is something that Google's knowledge panel has (mis)interpreted. Wikipedia has no control over Google or other search engines and you should take up your concerns with them. There is a "feedback" link within Google that you could try. Approval of a new article

    Good afternoon!

My name is Elene, I am logged in es elenesali in Wikipedia.

I created an article about Legal Design, it is now in moderation as far as I understand.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Legal_Design

Could you please tell me how long does it take for an article to be uploaded fulfully?

When the word draft will no longer be next to the name of the article?

I will be waiting for your response

    Kind regards,

    Elene Kalandiia Elenesali (talk) 11:56, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Elenesali: it can take months for a draft to be reviewed. When a reviewer decides to take it on, they will either "move it to mainspace" and remove "Draft" from the title, or decline it, explaining how it does not meet Wikipedia's standards. (I observe that the opening section of the draft uses a lot of jargon, making it hard to understand.) Maproom (talk) 12:07, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your draft Draft:Legal Design hasn't actually been submitted for review? Theroadislong (talk) 12:12, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Your draft hasn't been submitted for review. Unless it's submitted, it will never be reviewed. If you were to submit it now and I were to review it, I'd fail it. Entire sections are virtually or completely unreferenced. And it contains material such as Legal design is an interdisciplinary approach based on human-centricity applied in legal activity [...] I don't know what this means, and the thought occurs to me that perhaps it doesn't really mean anything. (What are the alternatives to being based on human-centricity? Etc.) If it does mean something, then this something needs to be expressed more clearly. -- Hoary (talk) 13:18, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for your response, I appreciate it a lot. I will try to fix it! Elenesali (talk) 13:52, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Elenesali I see that the draft was submitted for review, and the "human-centricity" thing is still there. I don't understand that either; it sounds a lot like marketing-speak. Also, you could fix the grammar issues while you wait for the review. David10244 (talk) 05:51, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Help Needed to Retrieve Deleted Page

Hi, I would like to know how to retrieve the deleted wiki page. I want to edit the page according to the guideline provided Adaline Lefe (talk) 13:41, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Instructions for retrieving deleted pages are at WP:REFUND. --Jayron32 14:12, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I guess this is about Draft:Adventrum, speedy deleted 29th November as blatant promotion by Bbb23. As a non-admin I cannot access the deleted revisions to see how bad it was or how much can be salvaged, however, see Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles for a list of people who might email the draft text to you (to my knowledge requests for G11 deletions rarely recive anything but a rubber-stamp decline at WP:REFUND) Victor Schmidt mobil (talk) 14:23, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Adaline Lefe - If you intend on working on the deleted draft, please be aware of policies such as Conflict of interest which require you to disclose if you're being paid by your employer to write an article. I see that you have disclosed this on your user page. Remember that statements in an article should be cited to reliable, secondary sources (with few exceptions). Focus on the quality of sources: WP:NCORP is a stricter guideline then for non-company topics. casualdejekyll 14:35, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Adaline Lefe I have taken a look at the deleted draft and, it's bad. Frankly, I don't think there is much in it that is salvageable as a Wikipedia article. However, I would be willing to restore it if you want to work on it; just know that there is virtually nothing there that is acceptible on Wikipedia. If you want it for some purpose other than hoping to create a Wikipedia article, then I can e-mail you the text. Let me know which you would prefer. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 14:56, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How do I connect this routemap?

Hi all, don't think the Template:Routemap talk section is active enough to warrant posting there, so I'll post here instead:

How the hell do I connect this bus routemap?

This is my first time making a routemap, so bear with me if I'm doing this horribly wrong. Its taken me about an hour to figure out how to merge the lines back together after Bentley, and that involved flicking through numerous other bus and/or rail templates, but now I just need to... well, turn the splitting point upside down, and I'll be set. What part of Template:Routemap or Template:BS-map (which I'm trying my best to avoid seeing as how its being depreciated) will, no pun intended, put me on the right track? Deletions of Organizational pages in javascript location?

I've found a user 19Knights75 who has created a copy of the page about that organization in the *strangest* place. User:19Knights75/vector.js. Is *that* considered part of the sandbox or not? I'd appreciate someone taking a look at the user and seeing whether the user would count as not a personal account or if other appropriate actions could be taken. Naraht (talk) 17:02, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would simply ignore it. Isn't hurting anyone. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 18:21, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Naraht, @Sungodtemple A "page" inside a vector.js page? It might not be hurting anything, but you could also argue that user pages that look like article drafts are also not "hurting anything". We routinely delete those. This seems like a case of "misusing Wikipedia as a web host", or something. It's certainly weird.

    Logo of a software application

Hi, I'm writing a page about a software application and I want to show its logo. If I uploaded it on commons.wikimedia.org, what are the right license to use? Mabdelaal86 (talk) 22:01, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Mabdelaal86 In short, we don't upload logos on Commons since Commons don't accept non-free pics. You upload it to WP, see WP:FUW. Choose "Upload a non-free file", then "This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use." then "This is a logo of an organization, company, brand, etc."
However, you can't put non-free pics in drafts, so you do this first when your draft has been moved to article-space. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:32, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just going to clarify that logos can be uploaded to Commons as long as it can be shown that either (1) the logo is too simple to be considered eligible for copyright protection or (2) the logo has been released by it's copyright holders under one of the free-licenses that Commons accepts. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:29, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    December 8

I am trying to add a link to the name Maya Wiley from a page of people with that surname to an existing page for Maya Wiley. Mousing over the link shows a 'page does not exit' error, but it does.

On the Wiley disambiguation page there is a link to that same page that works. (Also, I created a sandbox link to Maya Wiley that works.)

Here's what I wrote which does not work, followed by the other reference that does.

    • Maya Wylie, (born 1964) American lawyer, professor, and civil rights activist

Maya Wiley, American civil rights activist and lawyer, 2021 mayoral candidate for New York City

Hi DidemAkd. I don't think there's a Wikipedia Canada so perhaps you mean English Wikipedia. Articles existing on other language (non-English) Wikipedias can be translated into English for English Wikipedia as explained in Wikipedia:Translation, but you need to make sure that the subject of the article meets relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines; in other words, an article exisiting on Turkish Wikipedia doesn't automatically mean the same article should also exist on English Wikipedia as explained here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:15, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Isaac Abarbanel page

I tried 4 times to allow you to change a fact on this page. It says his grave is unknown. IT IS NOT UNKNOWN. In 2014 I visited it in the Jewish cemetery in Padua, Italy. I sent a photo. You make it impossible to change this one thing. My iPhone photo is not copyrighted. I gave full permission for you to use it. My Abarbanel relatives have tried to get me to change this page for years. I finally tried to. I now give up. This is ridiculous that it is so complicated. The photo clearly shows the graves. Abarbaneledit (talk) 05:24, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Isaac Abarbanel article is not very good (lacks sourcing), but if his grave is known according to modern historians, this will be noted in some sort of WP:RS, like scholarly literature (history books etc). So, what have you got? You saying "I have a picture of his grave I took" isn't good enough in the WP-context, see WP:ISAWIT. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:36, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Abarbaneledit. There have likely been dozens or hundreds of people named Isaac Abarbanel throughout history, most of them completely obscure. How can anyone know for sure that your photo is of the grave of this specific Isaac Abarbanel? That is why we require a reference to a published reliable source. For example, my grandfather was named James Heaphy, my father was named James Heaphy, I am named James Heaphy and my son is named James Heaphy. And now that the internet has come along, I have learned that there are many other James Heaphys from New York to New Zealand and points in between. I know that there were two people with identical names working in very similar fields in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 20th century, and that they died within a few days of each other. Even local journalists got confused. We need to be cautious. Cullen328 (talk) 08:01, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
According to Encyclopaedia Judaica [2] his grave is unknown, but things may have happened since that was written. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:18, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say that the photo of the plaque clearly shows that the location of his remains is unknown:

I resti mortali sepolti nel cimitero di Borgomagno 1450-1529 qui furono translati nel 1955. E' tradizione che tra queste ossa riposino quelle di Don Itzchak Abrabanel e di Yehuda' Minz.

    Per Google Translate:

The mortal remains buried in the Borgomagno cemetery 1450-1529 were translated here in 1955. It is a tradition that among these bones rest those of Don Itzchak Abrabanel and Yehuda' Minz.

So his remains may be buried there — we just don't know for certain. —Wasell(T) 🌻🇺🇦 09:44, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For getting the name of a country plus its flag in front, you use th ISO thre-letter code in braces, e.g. {{USA}} ->  United States. But how about 'half-countries' without an ISO code? Question is motivated by Country_codes:_A #Alderney and some others in this overview. --KnightMove (talk) 19:55, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In what context would you be using this? --Jayron32 19:58, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I've never seen the use of flags in section headers; MOS:FLAG doesn't indicate that as an appropriate use. --Jayron32 20:01, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, most of the headlines on most pages in this overview (e.g. Country codes: C) do that already. So it would be appropriate to change this to non-flag? --KnightMove (talk) 07:16, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what the best move is. You do what you want. I'm just saying I've never seen that before. --Jayron32 12:33, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

CREATION OF NEW ARTICLE CHALLED CHAPLAIN NIELSEN

    Good morning!

We want more informations about how to create a new article concerning the real-life story of Professor Chaplain Nielsen from South America.

We are always available for any further details.

Hello. Please refrain from having multiple users under one account, it is against Wikipedia's policies. Also, if you have any conflict of interest, please declare that on your user page. Club On a Sub 20 (talk) 20:42, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd start by reading Wikipedia:Notability (people). From a quick online search, I can't see any obvious evidence that Chaplain Nielsen has been the subject of the sort of significant coverage in independent published reliable sources necessary to meet our criteria. AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:43, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that trying to create an article before you have spent time learning how Wikipedia works and what its requirements are is often frustrating and miserable. We delete hundreds of articles and drafts a day, many of them by people who have started before they are ready. And if you are connected with the subject (so you have a conflict of interest) it is even harder, as you will need to forget everything you know about the person - and, especially, forget your opinions about them - and write based only on what the independent sources that you have found say about the person. Please read your first article, as well as about notability. ColinFine (talk) 22:05, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Donation Begging

If you create an account, you can disable the fundraising banners. For further questions etc please email donate(@)wikimedia.org. RudolfRed (talk) 00:03, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia does not know the financial status of the person sitting at the computer/holding the device, or that the person has seen a donation request. Please create an accound and disable the banners in its preferences. 331dot (talk) 09:38, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome and thank you for your question about donations! To hide the fundraising banners, you can create an account and uncheck Preferences → Banners → Empty Fundraising. The Wikimedia Foundation does not track the identity of IP addresses, so it doesn't know your age, income level or whether you donated in the past.
None of the Wikipedia volunteer editors here who add and improve content in articles receive any financial benefit. We all simply contribute our time because we care about building a great encyclopedia for you and innumerable others around the world to use.
If you cannot afford it, no one wants you to donate. Wikipedia is not at risk of shutting down, and the Wikimedia Foundation, which hosts the Wikipedia platform and is asking for these donations, is richer than ever.
We are led to believe that users who allow cookies are less likely to see these banners on repeat visits (further information is available here), and you are welcome to communicate directly with the donor-relations team by emailing donate@wikimedia.org. I have nominated myself for adminship but the request isn't displayed on the RFA page could someone check the source code or inform me of what to change so it is viewable there please? StarryNightSky11  00:43, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

StarryNightSky11 I see no edits by you to create an RFA nomination, so whatever you did was not published. I would advise you against nominating yourself, however, as the odds of success for you are very low. You don't have the edit history required, and you haven't demonstrated a need for the tools. 331dot (talk) 00:48, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I would echo 331dot's comment. You should not go through with an RfA at this time. WP:ORCP is open to you if you want feedback on your 'readiness'; personally, my impressions is that an editor with fewer than 10,000 edits would have to have an extraordinary track record, and a very expressed need for the tools, to be accepted by the community. AFM & SAG-AFTRA Intelectual Property Right Distribution Fund

Why is there no page for the AFM & SAG-AFTRA Intelectual Property Rights Distribution Fund aka AFM & SAG-AFTRA Fund? Everytime I see AFM & SAG-AFTRA Fund you guys have a link going to either one of the unions, AFM or SAG-AFTRA. The AFM & SAG-AFTRA Fund is a separate intity from those two unions and their website is https://www.afmsagaftrafund.org/. Can someone look into this?

    SidSyd (talk) 00:59, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@SidSyd:Wikipedia editors are volunteers, and each of us does whatever tasks we wish to do, with almost no co-ordination and with no central planning. There are no "you guys" to respond to you. There are about 100,000 active editors in any given 30-day window, and perhaps 50 of them (us) are active on the help desk. If you think an article is needed you have as much right and responsibility to create that article as any of the other 100,000 active editors. Please look at WP:YFA to see how to proceed. -Arch dude (talk) 03:06, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    SAG-AFTRA headquarters
Hello, SidSyd. I am a Northern California editor who was in Southern California in 2015 to visit with a Wikipedia editor from Iceland (long story). While there, I happened to take a photo of SAG-AFTRA headquarters. So, I have paid a little bit of attention to this union over the years but I am far from an expert. The fact of the matter is that you are probably the Wikipedia editor most interested in the "AFM & SAG-AFTRA Intellectual Property Rights Distribution Fund". Accordingly, if you think that there should be an article about this topic, it is incumbent on you to write the article. I will be happy to offer advice but you will need to do the heavy lifting. Cullen328 (talk) 07:01, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The more concise answer is that nobody has yet volunteered to write that article. Are you up for it? Cullen328 (talk) 07:14, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Fair use images

Hi, Sri Lanka does not have the Freedom of panorama. It would be a shame if many landmarks deprived of an identifiable image. So can fair use images be used instead in such articles? Regards. Chanaka L (talk) 08:56, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@chanakal: it would need to meet the 10 criteria for non-free images. lettherebedarklight晚安 10:39, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lettherebedarklight: I have uploaded a dozen or so fair use company logos before, so I am aware of those criteria. I wanna know whether that works for panoramas as well? Cheers. Chanaka L (talk) 14:30, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The very first of the criteria you were pointed to above, is "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created" Almost all panoramas can be created, by visiting the place and taking it yourself, so they fall at the first. - Please also see Wikipedia:Freedom of panorama which explains that (in most circumstances) we are covered by US law, not local law. [[Arjayay (talk) 14:45, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Chanakal To be specific, that means that the Sri Lankan images have to be uploaded to the English Wikipedia using the {{FoP-USonly}} template but they do not have to meet the criteria for non-free images. However, unlike logos you may have uploaded in the past, you must own the copyright, which in practice usually means you took the picture yourself. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:18, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Arjayay: Thanks for the answer. @Michael D. Turnbull: Thanks, your reply answered my question. So Flickr photos with creative commons licence won't work for the freedom of panorama exception, correct? Uploaders themself should possess the copyright. Cheers, Chanaka L (talk) 03:09, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Indian or Native American or First Nation?

I am working on an article called United States Government Indian Trading Factories, 1795-1822.

What term for Indian is proper and politically correct to use. Creuzbourg (talk) 17:03, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Creuzbourg. I suggest that you read Native American name controversy. This is an unresolved issue. First Nations is a term associated with Canada. Since you are writing about events in the United States 200 years ago, I suggest that you use the common term of that era, which was Indian, perhaps with a clarifying note linking to Native Americans in the United States. The existence of the National Congress of American Indians indicates that the term Indian in this context is not defunct. Cullen328 (talk) 17:28, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Creuzbourg If you're writing for Wikipedia, then you need to bear in mind WP:COMMONALITY: as a non American-English speaker, I would understand "Native American" to mean what I think you're intending. "Indian" is ambiguous for me, even if not as "politically incorrect" as it might be elsewhere; and "First Nation" is not a term seen much here. Native Americans in the United States seems to agree and gives links to other articles on the same subject. Bazza (talk) 17:30, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Generally, for the indigenous people of what later became the lower 48 states, the general consensus is that either "Native American" or "American Indian" is appropriate when speaking of such people in a general context, while noting the specific people group or nation (such as Wampanoag or Navajo) may be more appropriate when referring to a specific person. In general it is better to use "American Indian" than just "Indian", which in most of the world means someone from India, but there is often no preference for between either "Native American" or "American Indian" as long as one is consistent within the same article. --Jayron32 17:52, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Wikitionary Question

Hello. I recently created a page for the etymology of the Persian word "رای." I was trying to enter my citations but i got an error stating that I was spamming. The error also said that I could get my account banned, which i obviously do not want. Could somebody elaborate why this is? or possibly enter the citation for me? this is the citation I would like to enter:

    Qaemmaqami, A. R., & Khatebey, A. (2013, July 9). رای و رأی ([New Persian] rāy and [arabic] ra'y). Academia.edu. Retrieved December 9, 2022, from https://www.academia.edu/3992194/%D8%B1%D8%A7%DB%8C_%D9%88_%D8%B1%D8%A3%DB%8C_New_Persian_r%C4%81y_and_Arabic_ra_y_

This is the link to the page: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%D8%B1%D8%A7%DB%8C

There is also a Persian word "رای" of Arabic origin, however the words are distinct in their etymology and pronunciation. Maybe Wikitionary thought I was creating another page for a word that already has a page? I am very confused and would greatly appreciate some assistance. Looking for a guide

Hi there, I'm new to editing Wiki pages and would like to speak with someone who's done this. I've been hired to update a page of a business and I need to know how to make sure that the updates don't break the rules. DebSchell (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The first thing you need to do is to read about conflict of interest and to make the mandatory declaration of paid editing. One might wonder why the client has hired someone who doesn't know how to do the job. - David Biddulph (talk) 19:41, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, DebSchell. I'm afraid you are rather in the position of somebody who has been hired to build a building for a client without having any knowledge of local building regulations (Wikipedia's policies) or of whether the site has been surveyed and found suitable for building on (whether the business meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability - most businesses don't). Further, it is very likely that the building they want you to build is one that it is not possible to build here - one that they own and control, and can use for their own purposes.
Once you have made the mandatory declaration, I suggest you study NCORP, Your first article, Neutral point of view, and An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing. You might also like to browse through Special:log/delete and see how many articles we delete, mostly because they were created by editors insufficiently experienced to understand the requirements. Looking at that page just now I see fifty deletions in the last three quarters of an hour, of which I think four were drafts about organizations and companies.
If this sounds discouraging: I'm afraid it is meant to. You are most welcome to be a Wikipedia editor. But creating a new article is much harder than people think, and doing so with a conflict of interest is harder still. ColinFine (talk) 23:19, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
David Biddulph, ColinFine: DebSchell says she's been hired to update the page, not to create it. DebSchell: the easiest and least troublesome way for you to get the article updated is to go to the article's talk page, and detail the changes you want made, listing a source for each change to confirm that it's correct. It's probably best to start by specifying just one change (with its source) so you get a feel for how this procedure works. If you jump straight in by requesting a rewrite of the whole article or a long list of changes, your request is likely to be rejected or ignored. Maproom (talk) 08:00, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My apologies, DebSchell - I missed that you were talking about updating a page, not creating one (Thank you Maproom). So not all I said is relevant to you - but some still is. In particular, that the article will not necessarily say what your clients want it to say. You are welcome to make edit requests, but if the editor who happens to consider the request regards it as promotional, it will not get implemented, at least not in the way you asked. @SuperMarioGlitchy10: Check out WP:YFA for steps on creating an article. It is not an easy task for new users, I suggest you work on improving existing articles first. RudolfRed (talk) 20:27, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello SuperMarioGlitchy10. An account needs to be at least four days old and have made at least ten edits in order to create a new article. Read and study and take seriously all of the advice at Your first article before you try. Cullen328 (talk) 23:05, 9 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As a new user you cannot create pages until your account is 'auto-confirmed' (10 edits / 4 days old). From my perspective you'd be best reading up on guidance on creating your first article via this link, but I'd also recommend first focusing on pages that are already here and adding or modifying existing content that you feel would be a benefit to the encyclopaedia to gain experience on editing before creating your first article. Same Name, Same University...

Cooper Union's Architecture school is named after its alumnus Irwin S. Chanin who graduated in 1915. (I have a solid reference for this) Irwin S. Chanin is notable and an article exists. Alpha Mu Sigma was founded at Cooper Union in 1914 and one of its founders is Irwin S. Chanin. (I have a solid reference for this). What documentation would be needed to add the fact that he is the founder of Alpha Mu Sigma to the article on Irwin S. Chanin and link from the Alpha Mu Sigma page. Note Cooper Union is a pretty small school (currently 800-900, don't believe it was bigger 100 years ago) and Irwin S. Chanin is a pretty unusual name. *But* the same rules should apply if this was two John T Smiths attending Ohio State right? Note, I've contacted Cooper Union and the best they can do is agree with both facts. Ideas? Would a 1914 yearbook showing only one Irwin Chanin do? I'm afraid that you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Wikipedia is. We do not accept payment for "posts" in any form. We accept articles if they meet all our criteria for articles, vis that they are neutrally written summaries of what the (cited) reliable sources say about a notable topic, and do not contain any promotion or original research. If you have written an article outside Wikipedia, it is very unlikely (though not impossible) that it will meet Wikipedia's requirements. But you are welcome to read your first article, along with the other links I have given, and try to create an article. ColinFine (talk) 11:46, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
