Thank you.

You you for the AfD formatting help. I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. Some of the articles on it seem to be contradictory (especially in regards to adding it to the deletion log). Kensuke Aida 17:44, 2 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wal-Mart (disambiguation)

I've added an opinion of "rename" in the discussion which appears not to have been considered in the debate. I encourage you to review my reasoning at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wal-Mart (disambiguation) and determine if you need to reconsider your !vote. Regards. -- Whpq 18:21, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is EXTREMELY bad form to put a speedy tag on an article when there's already an AfD on it, especially when someone else tried to speedy it for the same reason the day before and it was removed. Frankly, it's totally absurd to think that article should be deleted in the first place--Jay Friedman is an extremely well-renowned trombonist, as the stub that's currently there makes clear--but the speedy tag is absolutely uncalled for. Kurt Weber (Go Colts!) 23:28, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

But you need to demonstrate that he is well known. Lashing out at others is unfair, and your language itself is grossly inappropriate (e.g. [1]). We're all here to write this encyclopedia, and we all want to do it right. An article's status as a stub is not a shield from deletion, as even stubs must meet community standards for asserting notability, using reliable independent sources, etc. Please refrain from taking things so personally and from making accusations or speaking in such an inappropriate manner. --Cheeser1 (talk) 01:22, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There's both a Naked Brothers Band (album) and List of The Naked Brothers Band songs

Dear Sandy Georgia, There's a problem, The Naked Brothers Band (album) falls underneath List of The Naked Brothers Band songs and The Naked Brothers Band (album) article should be deleted, since there is a lot work to do on that article and it's practically a duplicate anyway. How do you delete an article? AnnieTigerChucky 00:41, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, only an admin can delete an article, and it would have to fail notability, be submitted to Prod or be submitted to AfD. You can start by reading WP:MUSIC, and then see WP:PROD or WP:AFD, based on whether the article meets notability. Hey, Annie, it would be really helpful if you'd shorten up your section headings; something like "How to delete" would work. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:46, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You have to place a rationale in your {{prod}} template. I removed the prod. If you want to try again, this time with {{prod|reason why the page should be deleted}}, you can. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 00:40, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. How do you think the graphic is confusing or unclear, and how would you suggest it be improved? JTRH (talk) 14:03, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that was quick! Thanks for the response. As I understand the policy, wouldn't using actual wheel graphics get into fair use issues. Do reproductions of copyrighted material fall under fair use? Also, the explanations of the various spaces like Free Spin are already on the main page; I created the configuration page purely to illustrate the wheel, replacing a table on the original page which was taking up way too much space. Yorktown Center

I disagree wholeheartedly with your last revision. I do not believe anything you eliminated was POV. Anything I added I could back up with issues of the Lombardian, if I had time enough to research it. Furthermore, Charles A. Stevens was NOT a mini-anchor. If your criteria for mini-anchor includes inside and outside doorways, then Herman's, Evans, and Walgreens also were mini-anchors, as well as Madigan's and Woolworth's.

I grew up three blocks from this mall. Though I may not always know the dates, I know what I'm talking about.

My recent mall AfDs

Regarding Wilton Mall at Saratoga and Regency Mall (Racine) and my other recent mall AfDs, I really did do a search for sources, but found none. Just so you know. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirps) 19:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • While I agree that there are some mall articles that might be justifiable targets for deletion, my quick review of your stream of AfDs shows that many of the malls do have credible claims of notability. My usual first place to check after reading the article as it stands is to check the Major Malls Directory at http://www.icsc.org/apps/directories.php to see how large the mall is, and to add that back as a source to the article. Many of the malls nominated are very large malls with articles that could easily be expanded to meet community standards of notability. It really surprised me to see a statement at the AfD for Regency Mall (Racine) stating that no reliable sources could be found, when a Google News Archive search turned up several hundred. I do recognize that you are improving other articles, but there seems to me to be a need for some greater due diligence before starting these AfDs. You have been nominating very large numbers of mall articles, and the track record of major malls mixed in with the chaff has been too high in the recent past. As you can see, I have been easily able to improve the articles for larger malls using readily available sources, and I have been able to build consensus that these malls are notable; in contrast, I have mostly ignored AfDs for smaller malls, unless there is some clear inkling of notability stated in the article, and allowed these malls to fall by the wayside. I would hope that if a more thorough check were done and only the least worthy made it to AfD, so that I would hardly need to bother checking any of the articles you had nominated. Please accept this as constructive criticism; it is clear to me that you are not someone on the warpath trying to delete all malls, and that your edit history shows a strong track record of improving mall articles. TenPoundHammer,

I am contacting you about the WebRidesTV article. I created the article and can see that some people have labeled it as "salt". I just want to apologize about the recreation of the page so many times. The reason that I had to re-create the article numerous times is because it was my very first one that I created and I was unaware of all of the guidelines that I had to follow when posting an article. I was in contact with many different administrators that helped me out to produce the final article that is up now. The site is actually very notable. The Alexa ratings for the site are quite impressive and significantly increasing every month. As of 12/18/2007 the current U.S. ranking is 2,984, I have provided a link to the traffic details page of WebRidesTV [2]. In terms of notable sources the ones provided with the article are prominent and significant enough to validate the site as Wikipedia worthy. I hope you understand and reconsider your opinion on the deletion of this article, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Speedy was contested

I'm sure you're aware that the speedy for Grabber Tees was contested, which is why I brought it to AfD for community consensus. It is an obvious delete, that goes without saying, but I'm pretty sure a speedy tag is not supposed to be put on twice if the "hangon" tag is added (it was). Am I missing something? (and yes, that is quite possible) Keeper | 76 20:03, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yeah, no prob. I've done that too. The author (named Grabbertees - surprise!) put the hangon tag, then did exactly what he was supposed to do by asserting why he wanted the article on the articles talk page. I then put it up for AfD to get consensus, and now there are three SPA accounts all messing around. I should've waited for the AfD myself a bit perhaps. A second speedy probably didn't help either, although this one seems obvious I agree. Happy editing, Keeper | 76 20:12, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MVs

I am pretty sure that not every single has a music video. Also, someone will think a single is a music video, but actually it isn't. And some songs which have a video do not release as a single. For example, Carrie Underwood's Ever Ever After is not a single, but it has a video. I hope you understand that.--I7114080 (talk) 00:22, 20 December 2007 (UTC)i7114080[reply]

Why did you close the discussion 90 minutes after the article was nominated for deletion? Why shouldn't I contest your closure at deletion review for just that reason? These aren't rhetorical questions. I think I'd probably agree to delete, but I also think deleting in that short a time period subverts the purpose of AfD. Am I wrong? Although you made the bulk of the contributions to the article on Fort Saginaw Mall, I would advise against having it speedy deleted as {{db-author}}. The article has been around quite a while and has garnered edits from some other people, so a unilateral deletion did not seem appropriate to me. Please consider using WP:PROD or WP:AFD instead. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:12, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD comment

As I understand it, AfD is a move of last resort. Generally, you try to get improvements made in any article which isn't obvious nonsense. To do otherwise just alienates people and makes them less likely to volunteer further for Wikipedia. Why are you doing this drastic movement when it's not appropriate? - Denimadept (talk) 17:16, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The two articles do not need to assert notability. The project they're part of says that such are notable. Your AfD motions, all on the same day and against so many different pages, suggest disruptive intent to me, and you certainly appear to be attempting to waste my first efforts on these pages. How do you suggest I take that? - Denimadept (talk) 19:01, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What we've got here is a difference of opinion on the meaning of "notable". Mountain Farms was listed in List of shopping malls converted to outdoor format, so I decided to fill in the article the red link was pointing to. While I was at it, I reorganized and partially rewrote the Hampshire Mall article which at the time had a "needs rewrite" badge on it. Whoever worked on the Hampshire Mall article before me thought it was notable. Whoever placed the link to a possible Mountain Farms article thought it was notable. Now you come along and say, based on no apparent real effort other than a quick web search, that we're all wrong and these are a waste of space. This is not a way to make people who spent their time appreciate your trashing of their efforts. - Denimadept (talk) 19:09, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, you would have been better off to have made comments on the articles' talk pages rather than start processes to delete them. Now the time available to improve these articles, which are not my priority, is shortened to a week or so. - Denimadept (talk) 19:45, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Butterfly Kisses (album)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Butterfly Kisses (album), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Butterfly Kisses (album). brewcrewer (yada, yada) 05:14, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, it looks like you're right. WP:MUSIC: "In general, if the musician or ensemble that recorded an album is considered notable, then officially released albums may have sufficient notability to have individual articles on Wikipedia." When I copied the prod notice and looked for the creator, for the paste, I was suprised. My fellow deletionist, of all people! I figured I missed something, but decided to prod it anyway, as it doesn't really harm anyone.
I am placing the unref tag on the article, however. "Naked" articles like that make me nervous. All the best, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 05:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 05:32, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now that we are on the subject, let me ask you a question. The whole music culture is unfamilar to me, so bear with me. In WP:MUSIC it states that an artists are generally notable if they "had a charted hit on any national music chart." What is a "national music chart"? For example, in Lynam (band) it states that one of their albums "peaked at #21 on Billboard's 'Top Independent Albums chart' and #19 on its 'Top Heatseekers chart.'" Are the "Top Independent Albums chart" and the "Top Heatseekers chart" considered "national music charts"? --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 05:48, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good job with the explanation. I confused albums and songs.--brewcrewer (yada, yada) 06:19, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Manchester Center deletion

Greetings. In your nomination to delete the article Manchester Center, you mention that there is a size in square footage which makes a shopping center eligible for "super-regional classification" and inclusion in Wikipedia. What is that size and where can I find the policy/guideline page which includes it? The reason I'm asking is becaue the 460,000 sq. ft. size you mentioned does not include the 80,000 sq. ft. movie theater. Thanks. Citadel18080 (talk) 20:11, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your quick response. I also noticed that you edited, but did not nominate an article for another Fresno-area shopping center, the Clovis Towne Center, for deletion. The shopping center is only about 60% the size of Manchester and is of less significance (I was suprised that someone made an article for it in the first place). Citadel18080 (talk) 20:26, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the Felony Records AfD closed as a "delete", and all of the associated band pages were deleted, primarily (I think) because your reasoning went unquestioned. I think, however, that two of the bands so deleted, Butt Trumpet and 1208 (band), had legitimate claims of notability that were overlooked, and I have asked for review at WP:DRV. MCA Records and MCA Nashville Records artists

Because MCA Nashville Records is still an active label with its own artist roster list, I moved the Nashville artists from the defunct MCA Records list to the MCA Nashville list. Steelbeard1 (talk) 18:28, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In my opinion, any recording which originated from MCA Records' Nashville office is considered to be MCA Nashville. The complication is the dissolution of MCA Records while the Nashville office continues to issue recordings under the MCA name. If you look at the UMG Nashville article which incorporates the MCA Nashville Records article, it traces MCA Nashville to the formation of the country music division of Decca Records in 1945. So as I stated, my opinion is that anything issued by MCA Records' Nashville office, whether it bears either the MCA or MCA Nashville logo, is considered to be MCA Nashville Records. Please read Talk:List of UMG Nashville artists. Steelbeard1 (talk) 22:39, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, note that reissues of recordings from MCA's Nashville office which were first issued on the MCA label were reissued on MCA Nashville Records and NOT Geffen Records so this raises the stakes here. Again, any recording issued by MCA's Nashville office, whether the logo says MCA or MCA Nashville actually belongs to MCA Nashville Records. So Wikipedia articles about MCA and MCA Nashville should reflect this. Steelbeard1 (talk) 00:05, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The main difference between MCA and Mercury in regards to their Nashville offices prior to the Mercury Nashville and MCA Nashville names being adopted is that Mercury Records is still an active label while MCA Records is not. The earliest record I found of Mercury recordings made in Nashville were with Johnny Preston of "Running Bear" fame in 1960 and found at [3]. The earliest country music I found which Mercury recorded featured Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and The Foggy Mountain Boys recorded in Cincinnati in 1949 and found at [4] Steelbeard1 (talk) 03:54, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries on the warning thing - it's kind of a dicey thing, as she does point out there's a source on the MySpace page (though who knows who put that in). Hopefully she'll engage on the talk page instead of continuing to edit war. I'll keep an eye on it, though. Cheers, and happy new year! Tony Fox (arf!) 03:57, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the candidate typically accepts and transcludes, rather than the nominator. Could be wrong, but just in case figured I'd let you know what I've seen. Avruchtalk 07:28, 1 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Taylor Swift

I edited it because I completely misstated what I attempted to say. What I meant was that in over two years, one solo female artist (Carrie Underwood) reached No. 1, two charted in conjunction with a male artist/group (Dolly Parton, Jennifer Nettles), and one female-led duo (Sugarland), hit #1, while countless male artists/groups (Rodney Atkins, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Billy Currington, Heartland, Steve Holy, and countless others) achieved top status.Spell4yr (talk) 01:31, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've been thinking about it and maybe it would be best (and since I'm not a frequent/great Wikipedia editor, take this for what it's worth) to wait until the next single of the artist is released and if it fails to hit #1, put the footnote on there. Using that criteria, Billy Currington, Big & Rich, and (unless You Still Own Me starts gaining spins at a huge clip for many, many weeks in a row) Emerson Drive would be candidates for the footnote, rather than waiting a year for something that probably wouldn't change anyway. Note on your RfA

Dear TenPoundHammer, while I stand by my vote as these nominations with TW by editors are just too overwhelming lately, I do kind of feel bad as I just realized that not only was I the first one to oppose, but that I posted on New Year's Day no less. So, again, while I personally frown upon the use of TW to nominate too many articles for deletion and I would much rather editors focus on improving articles, I do hope that the oppose on a holiday was not too much of a blow and that you had a pleasant day nonetheless. Pre Deletion Trama

I am working on an essay at User:Pharmboy/PDT and asking input from a couple of editors and admins whom I most trust. I see a lot of tension in AFD/Speedy from new users who jump into writting new articles, and even find myself BITEing the newcomers from time to time, and think an essay like this will actually improve Wikipedia by reducing tensions and helping educate the newcomers who are adding articles. If you feel the essay is worthwhile, please feel free to edit it, as it is still rough. If you feel it is not worthwhile or better covered by an existing article, please leave a note to that effect on my regular user talk:Pharmboy talk page. You are also free to ignore this request and I won't have any hard feelings. Pharmboy (talk) 16:40, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need a neutral opinion

As you work on a lot of music articles, if you have a moment, can you take a look at Talk:Thriller 25? Myself and a few other editors seem to be going back and forth about whether this should be in its own article. So far I've placed a merge tag there, and the consensus could go either way (which is fine), but it seems to be the same few people going on and on and its been about a week. There are two main conversations going, here and here. Anything you could add would be appreciated. Thanks! - eo (talk) 18:45, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for picking up on the double entry I put in for Kojongie in WP:AfD. I had a Wikipedia server crash while I was doing it. Jeopardy! {{verylong}}

I'm not sure how long you've been following the Jeopardy! article, but it already went through a verylong phase and has split off most of its content into other articles and relocated most of its specific examples to footnotes. How do you justify adding a verylong tag now, when the article is on the whole shorter than it has ever been in the last several years? What, in particular, would you remove or split off? I ask this in earnest because I've been thinking very hard about ways to get this article down to size without crippling it or depriving it of essential information. I'm out of ideas. The current article is 63 KB, which, according to WP:LENGTH, puts it in the category "Probably should be divided (although the scope of a topic can sometimes justify the added reading time)". • Just a note on this. Thanks for attempting to clean up the non-noteworthy bands here. One thing I would ask, though, is that you not nominate categories of the album variety until the contents have been deleted. The empty categories can then be deleted without discussion. But prior to that, they will be kept on CfD per hundreds of past precedents, since any album articles that does survive needs a subcategory of Category:Albums by artist. It's just an order-of-action thing, not any problem with your intent. Thanks again!--Mike Selinker (talk) 20:01, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article suggestion

Dear TenPoundHammer, I notice that you are interested in otters. Anyway, it may be interesting to create an article on Otters in popular culture or something to that effect as there do seem to be a number of examples of the topic, such as in "Go God Go" and "Go God Go XII", as well as here and here. Best, --Le Grand Roi des CitrouillesTally-ho! 02:04, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that you create a Cultural depictions of otters like Cultural depictions of spiders rather than an IPC article. That way it will be easier to defend in the Afd's, to improve quality due to a broader section of sources and to prevent it from turning into a "I saw otters!" list--Lenticel (talk) 10:46, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your RfA was unsuccessful

I'm sorry to inform you that I have closed your RfA as not demonstrating a consensus that you should be made an administrator at this time. Although I think the discussion was close, with strong points raised on both sides, the number of users opposing and the concerns they raised meant that I had to close the RfA as I have done. I hope you will not be too disheartened and will work to address those concerns - especially those relating to understanding and application of Wikipedia's deletion policy - over the coming month. Nearly a hundred users supported your request and clear progress seems to have been made since your earlier requests. I hope you not be put off from continuing to contribute to the project and wish you the very best of luck with any future attempts. Yours, WjBscribe 07:22, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Curb logo2.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Curb logo2.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 22:42, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD question: Recombinant text

I have very little experience in AfD matters, and am asking for your input before nominating an article for deletion, because, quite frankly, I do not want to be seen as someone who capriciously nominates articles which do not meet AfD standards.

If you have time, please take a look at this article. It was created by the person who—as the intro asserts—is the very person who coined the term. Most of the edits are by that person. Most, if not all, of the sources link back to this person. I mean, at best it appears to me to constitute OR, at worst, self-promotion. But maybe I'm seeing it wrong. What do you think?

I selected you and many other editors pretty much completely at random; I picked one day's AfD archives, and clicked on the talk pages of the first two or three dozen editors' talk pages I came across. I hope that in using this selection method, I will get editors who are well-versed in AfD policies, yet who also represent a good cross-section of AfD philosophies. I will monitor your talk page for your response. Thanks. Unschool (talk) 07:08, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

Hello TenPoundHammer, I've granted rollback rights to your account. The reason for this is that, after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you will use rollback correctly. You know the difference between a good-faith edit and vandalism, and I do not think that you will abuse rollback by reverting good-faith edits or to edit war. If you don't want rollback, let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. Acalamari 18:58, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you that the band will probably be deleted, however I removed the speedy tag because the article barely attempts an assertion of notability, therefore (barely) not qualifying for speedy. I would likely support deletion through AfD without major improvements to the article however. Thanks TPH, happy editing, Keeper | 76 20:35, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

speedy deletion and AFD

While it is not particularly good practice, there is nothing in either WP:AFD or WP:CSD that states the two cannot be attempted simultaneously. Its not a big deal but you may want to consider refraining from closing these debates early, since in cases that are not covered by WP:SNOW it can be seen as stepping on other editor's toes. Personally I'd advise not to do anything until the speedy works its way through, which is generally quite rapidly anyway.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 20:49, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My bad. Should have realize the same whack-job keeps creating the article over and over like so many other useless myspace bands.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 21:10, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. You have apparently nominated an article to which I have contributed for deletion. Can you please provide some clarity about why you have done this? This article was the subject of two prior nominations and was overruled/kept as a result. The article appears to meet the criteria for WP:BAND in that they appeared on a national TV broadcast on Cartoon Network as well as a nationally syndicated Podcast (Mastan Music Hour) and have appeared in several newspaper articles (albeit, local). This covers at least a couple of the notability requirements. Please have a look at the previous Afd Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Still_Pending_(2nd) and see what you think. Thank you.
