Found poetry

Hey. I noticed you reverted vandalism on found poetry. Thanks! The article, unfortunaly, hasn't been looked after a lot lately, so I think part of the problem is that not a lot of people have it on their watchlist. Can you put it on yours? Thank you, Justpassin (talk) 01:22, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. Yeah, I put it on my watchlist. :) Regards, —αἰτίας discussion 13:05, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Macadamia nut cookies

Why did you revert my edit to Talk:Macadamia? Every time I try to mention it in the article or start a discussion on it either there or on someone's talk page, my edits are always reverted before the other person can read my message. It's getting very frustrating. --71.98.90.135 (talk) 19:28, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you keep reverting my edits? You deleted my message the last time I tried to ask.. isn't there something in the rules about edit wars? If you don't stop, I'm going to seek the counsel of an administrator. --71.98.90.135 (talk) 19:32, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

edit: oops, sorry.. someone deleted my message, but it got put back on. Weird. --71.98.90.135 (talk) 19:32, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help on the discussion page... I'm still trying to figure out how to use this thing 0_o It keeps saying that I have a new message, but I don't.. every time I go to Macadamia, it gives me that message.. if I click "last change", it shows the same thing every time.. that you took off that message that other guy wrote. --71.98.90.135 (talk) 19:46, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey 71.98.90.135. You're welcome. But let me start slowly: You wrote “They also make great cookies out of them” into the Macadamia article, then User:Blanchardb reverted your changes: I think it's better to ask him why he did that at his talk page — You can leave him a message at his talk page by clicking this link. Later you tried to justify your edit by leaving a message at the talk page of the article: That was a good idea, but unfortunately you deleted all the other discussions at the article-talkpage. So your edit really looked like vandalism and I reverted it. After you left a message here at my talk page (I first reverted that message accidentally... Sorry, but there was quite a lot of vandalism on my talk page today... But I reverted my revert as far as possible), I saw that you just don't know how to leave a message at the article-talkpage properly: I immediately went to the talk page of the article and repaired it. I hope this helps you. If you still have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 20:11, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Hong Kong Night Skyline.jpg

Hi,

I see you've nominated Hong Kong Night Skyline.jpg. As this is an HDR image, many people think that it's unrealistic and not suitable for wikipedia.

I was wondering if you could nominate this instead. Non-HDR is more realistic for some people.

Thanks --Base64 (talk) 02:28, 18 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Base64. Of course I can... But do you want me to add Image:Hong_Kong_Night_Skyline_non-HDR.jpg as an alternative to the current nomination or to nominate it in a new nomination? Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 19:07, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nevermind, I changed the text (not for voting) to Alternative, but it seems that no one minds it. --Base64 (talk) 02:10, 21 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My thanks as well. In my case, I think that the vandalism was because I earlier tagged the anon as a sockpuppet of Lycurgus. I did this because

  1. It is evident from Special:Contributions/74.78.162.229 that 74.78.162.229 is a stable address which has long been used by Lycurgus.
  2. Lycurgus has been more inclined to violate policy when editing anonymously.

Hey. I'm sorry, but I could only add a {{Neutral}} , because of the technical quality: The background is a bit distracting and, at full resolution, parts of the subject are not as sharp as they should be. Question from a NOOB :)

Hello αἰτίας

I'm keeping to receive a note about 'typos' in my provided links ("it's -> its", for instance), though I'm not using such at all. I'm totally confused (I know, that's my problem), but could you help me, please, and explain what I'm doing wrong?

Grateful in advance, PolygonJunkie

Polygonjunkie (talk) 21:29, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Polygonjunkie. I would be very happy to help, though I don't know how I could help you, as I don't really understand the problem. Where do you receive such a “note”? What exactly does this note say? Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 21:36, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Morning, αἰτίας! It seems that I'm more NOOB than expected :D In my watchlist, next to Clive Barker's Jericho, there's a text "(clean up, typos fixed: dessicated → desiccated, with it's → with its using AWB)". I didn't use neither of these words in my provided link, so I'm quite confused what I would have to correct... Best regards ;)

Polygonjunkie (talk) 08:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, now I understand. :) So let me start with general information about the Watchlist: The so called Watchlist shows you the most recent edits in articles you have watchlisted (that means you've pressed the watch tab at the top of a page in order to watchlist a particular article). You may consider to read Help:Watching pages for further information. :) So, you see, what appeared on your watchlist was actually not a message from me. I just edited that article and corrected some spelling mistakes. This mistakes were not from you, they were already in that article before you edited it. I hope everything is clear now, if you need further explanations I would be very happy to help. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 20:27, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
  5. Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
  6. and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

I am asking you to correspond and maybe we can reverse the problem. Assuredly (talk) 13:25, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gerard Craig

Could you please explain how Gerard Craig was "incorrectly or insufficiently warned", please? Thanks...NeutralHomerTalk 18:08, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I would strongly recommend reading the introduction of the AIV-page. There it says:

Important! – your report must follow these three points:

  1. [...]
  2. [...]
  3. The user must be given sufficient recent warnings to stop.”
User:Gerard Craig has only received two warnings until now; an uw-v1 and an uw-v2 warning ([1]). This means he has not received a final warning (neither an uw-v4 nor an uw-v4im one) yet. Therefore he simply was not sufficiently warned when you reported him to AIV. Accordingly the user can not be blocked at this point. If the user vandalises again in the future and is warned sufficiently you are free to report him another time.
I hope my explanation is understandable and satisfactory — If it isn't please don't hesitate to ask further questions. Regards, —αἰτίας discussion 18:42, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That part I understand, but since his first (and only as of this writing) two edits were vandalism, I thought that bypassed that rule due to edits. If it was me or you, who have established edits (lots), then I would understand the need for the full 4 warnings. I will keep an eye on his edits, to make sure he doesn't get to that 4 mark. - NeutralHomerTalk 01:25, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Please see this thread. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 13:01, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello zzuuzz. I did not enable this new blocking option intentionally, but accidently: I usually use User:Animum's blocking script. When blocking an user/an IP with this script, the new blocking option seems to be enabled per default. :-/ Therefore I removed this script from my monobook.js and asked Animum for fixing the script. Finally I would like to thank you a lot for this message. Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 13:39, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help with vandalism

I have been watching and editting the Respiratory System page, which I think is improving nicely. Unfortunately, it receives near daily vandalism. I noted you had placed a vandalism warning on the talk page of a user who recently vandalised the Respiratory System page. Since your warning was noted as a "last chance," I would appreciate any help you can provide with regard to reducing vandalism on the Respiratory System page. I haven't been editing in Wikipedia long and I am trying to learn many new things. LLDMart (talk) 14:48, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Are you referring to this article? My last edit in this article is from February 2008... Well, unfortunately I can't see a chance to do much against the vandalism at this point. Of course you are free to request (semi-) protection of this page in accordance with the Protection policy, however I don't think there is enough recent vandalism to justify a protection now. Generally you can report vandals to WP:AIV. Such reports must follow the three points noted at this page. All in all, as said above, I don't think there's much that can be done against the vandalism at this point. :( I hope I could help you a bit, if you have further questions don't hesitate to ask me. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 15:53, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mako Models Deletion

Hello Aitias,

I was hoping you could help me with understanding the deletion of the Mako Models posting. I have included significant information regarding the company, maintained editing guidelines, and gave a basic reference. I am not sure what else to include in order for the article to not be included under Speed Deletion.

Thanks,

RfA

Hi. Thoughtful oppose. On the subject of conflict, the user has masses of (often repeat, argumentative) edits at AfD - you know how heated AfD gets. The fact that the user doesn't regard any of the ensuing discussions as conflict actually tells you all you need to know on that particular score. --Dweller (talk) 16:26, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that may be true, however this is not the only point that concerns me. As explained in my rationale, there are quite a lot of concerning points in my opinion. Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 18:28, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, I wasn't trying to get you to change your !vote (clearly), just challenging an aspect. Currently your comments re conflict remain on the RfA and may influence future !votes. Please suggest how I many develop more experience. I have not come across many articles that were in need of deletion, let alone Speedy Deletion. I can not click on the link provided in the reason, as it is an admin function. -- Matthew Glennon(Talk to me) 19:07, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The link shows that you have just tagged one page for speedy deletion ever. If you want to gain more experience in this area, I would recommend using Special:NewPages along with WP:TWINKLE. Hope this helps. Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 19:56, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thx. I actually didn't know about Special:NewPages until about an hour ago when I clicked the link another requestor left. In the past I've aimed my editing at counter-vandalism, but with NewPages I'll be able to demonstrate my ability to decide what constitutes speedy deletion. Thanks for the advice. I must ask though, what would you suggest is a good mile marker for re-requesting? -- Matthew Glennon(Talk to me) 21:03, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. :) After having requested speedy deletion about 50 times correctly it would be a good time to reapply, I'd say. Regards, —αἰτίας discussion 21:12, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

William McDougall protection

Hi. This is is the first time I've requested a page to be protected and you have declined it as There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. I'm sorry but I don't follow. The IP has since re-added the disruptive bio since I requested the protection, which would seem to me pretty recent! Is there some other route I should follow e.g requesting the IP be blocked? This is the only page the IP seems to be editing. Tassedethe (talk) 22:12, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Pages may only be protected in accordance with the Protection policy. Therefore it's worth reading the policy before requesting a protection (especially if doing this the first time). The policy defines that there has to be either heavy and persistent disruptive activity (for indefinite semi-protection) or significant and heavy recent disruptive activity (for temporary semi-protection). None of this possible circumstances applies here. Thus, there was no possibility to protect the page. Of course you are free to take other action, which you consider to be appropriate. If you think there is a basis to request the IP to be blocked you may do this for example here or here. Hope this helps. Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 22:38, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. I did read the policy but of course its difficult to fit particular circumstances to guidelines. Heavy and significant are subjective words, and without explicit guidelines (and especially for the first time) its difficult to gauge what counts as heavy and significant. There are no examples of heavy or significant edits at the policy page. As a percentage of the total page size (a dab page is usually pretty small) they would seem to be significant edits. I didn't feel AIV was the appropriate place for a single IP repeatedly editing a single page but the WP:ANI page is new to me. Tassedethe (talk) 23:01, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The J. Delanoy annoyer

Keep an eye out for this guy. His MO is pretty standard, and he's been harassing J. Delanoy for some time now. If he comes back, seek an admin to insta-block him. I generally just block him on sight with his first edit. If you need help in this regard, a quick AIV post with a link to the SSP report I quoted on his userpage should get an Admin on it real quick. Re: Template:SharedIPEDU

Hi, well the previous wording was "up to 1 year", this was changed to "1 year or longer". I thought it didn't mean much (how long is "longer"), and was contradicting the previous version. I don't think it brings much at the moment. But I'll be happy to undo and discuss if you disagree. -- lucasbfr talk 23:36, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I don't quite understand. :/ If I do understand you correctly, you disagree with the "or longer"? In this case it would have been appropriate to remove just "or longer". But you removed the "up to 1 year" as well. Was that intended? I could still see a point in removing "or longer" —as you said how long is "or longer"?— however I don't see a reason for removing "up to 1 year". Thus, I think it would be reasonable to reinsert it. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 23:56, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Possible protection on Saints Row 2 page

Hey Aitias, recently, the page Saints Row 2 has been suffering from Vandalism alot and when i view the history, it has been reverted to previous versions alot. Could it be possible to put semi-protection or something on it to protect it from un-registered users (IPs)? Either that or give me Rollback abilities because its annoying having to revert all the time. Thank you and have a nice day. DJ MeXsTa (talk) 17:25, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey DJ MeXsTa. :) Please use WP:RFPP to request the protection of a page. Concerning rollback I don't feel comfortable granting this time, as you seem to have very little experience in reverting vandalism. Please gain some experience in this area using tools like undo or twinkle. If you can demonstrate some experience soon I would be happy to grant rollback. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 17:55, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Aitias, how do i "Install" Twinkle? It's confusing... It mentions a monobook.js page but then it has a red box on my page. Can you help me? Thanks. DJ MeXsTa (talk) 18:35, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have created User:DJ MeXsTa/monobook.js for you. Please refresh your browser completely by bypassing your cache. It should work then. Hope I could help you. :) Best wishes, —αἰτίας discussion 20:24, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
