Killzone: Shadow Fall is an upcoming video game by Guerrilla Games and will be a launch title for the PlayStation 4 console. It will be the sixth game in the entire Killzone series and the fourth for home consoles.[3][4]

Gameplay

Killzone: Shadow Fall is a first person shooter. Guns like the M82 Assault Rifle, the stA-52 Assault Rifle and the stA-18 pistol are returning from previous games. New weapons such as a hybrid sniper rifle/assault rifle made an appearance at both of the gameplay demos. As well as that there is the OWL, an advanced hovering attack drone used by the Shadow Marshals. It can attack, be used as a zip line, can shield you and can hack terminals.

Plot

Killzone: Shadow Fall is set 30 years after the events of Killzone 3.[5] Life on the Helghast home planet Helghan has been left in ruins, however, the war still goes on.[6] The Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) allows Helghast refugees to resettle on planet Vekta. The Vektan and Helghast factions are living in a city which is divided by a large security wall.[7] The Helghast are fighting for their right to exist, while the Vektans are fighting for survival, leading to a "Cold War" between Vektans and Helghast.[8]

Development

Promotion of the game at E3 2013.

Killzone: Shadow Fall was announced at the PlayStation Meeting in February 2013, and will be a PlayStation 4 launch title.[9]

The demo of Killzone: Shadow Fall shown during PlayStation 4's announcement only used 4.7GB of memory, not the full 8GB GDDR5 RAM available to developers in the final hardware. Guerrilla's decision to stick with 4GB suggest that the developer may not have been aware of Sony's decision to include 8GB in final retail hardware, something CEO Stewart Gilray told videogamer.com had been kept secret from third-party developers until the console's announcement.[10]

Two actors were confirmed on July 9, 2013: Homeland star David Harewood will be playing Vektan Security Agency director Sinclair, and True Blood's Jamie Gray Hyder will be playing Echo, an intelligence operative for the Helghast.[11]

Release

Although the game's release date is still listed as "TBA" on the official website, it will be released at the latest on November 15, 2013 (North America) and November 29, 2013 (Europe) as a launch title[12] for the PlayStation 4 release.[13]

Marketing

Participating retailers are offering the Shadow Pack as a pre-order bonus. The Shadow Pack includes three exclusive skins for the OWL combat drone, the MP Spotlight Move (a special victory move to humiliate fallen opponents in multiplayer), and the Killzone: Shadow Fall Official Soundtrack.[14]
