Query re Revision History pages
I notice that although two small edits I made this week to two Wiki articles have obviously been accepted (because the current Wiki articles appear with those edits), they are listed in the Revision History pages for those articles with "(undo)" beside them. - Indeed. And your edits have not "been accepted", in any active sense. It's just that no-one has seen fit to revert or change them. I had a quick look at your edits to articles myself, and found four. Three were, in my view, clear improvements. One I considered a change very slightly for the worse, but certainly not to the point where I will do anything about it. This is, I would say, par for the course or better. - Well, I fixed the references format issue. You had the {{reflist}} template in the right place but you were trying to call a reference after that. All references must be before the reflist. But you still have not provided references to secondary sources which show that the people are notable per Wikipedia's guidelines. Hi Help Desk. I represent entertainment personality Lauren Powers. And I was asked to look into repetitive forced changes to her Wiki page.
Someone keeps maliciously changing her birthdate on her Wiki page to attempt to reflect her to be 5 years older than she really is. She was born in 1962, and this is supported by her California Drivers License.
Lauren has competitor interests that are trying to keep her from being successful with her own line of National Fitness Competitions, and we believe they are changing the date to sabotage her and adversely affect her TV, Film and commercial bookings in Hollywood.
How can we permanently change the Wiki entry to reflect the birth year of 1962, and NOT 1958 that it keeps getting changed to? Having problem with figuring out a game
In pajama Sam thunder and lightning been tried over and over. The T part gets stuck in the vending machine tried getting can of earth quake opening and throwing it at vending machine. It shakes and acts like it's going to come out and stays stuck. Won't come out. Can u tell us how to get that part out of vending machine please. Disambiguation/Redirect
I want to change the page The Full English into a disambiguation for that term rather than just a redirect to the page that was there before, now The Full English (album). I can't see this information on any of the disambiguation pages: can I just change the page contents and include a link to The Full English (album) or will this undermine how moving pages works? Finding the culprit on a page with hundreds of transclusions
At requested moves there is one request out of a few hundred that is transcluding one or more ref tags, causing the project page to display a cite error message at the bottom of a missing reflist. If nothing is done it's not that big a deal; within a week or two it will fall out in the natural course as requests are closed. But I was wondering if anyone can think of a way to easily find the culprit – that is, something less stupidly mechanical and laborious than opening up a few hundred requests to find the offending member.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 18:15, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

(←) The bot doesn't use transclusion to create the current discussions list, so hiding with noinclude tags won't work. You can either pull the {{Reflist-talk}} inside the proposer's signature, and thus include the refs on the RM/CD page, or pull the citations outside the proposer's signature, so that they are an additional comment by the proposer in support. I am making edits to the 'Segal Company' page and was hoping to change the article title to 'The Segal Group.' Can I do this or would I have to start over with a new article? And if that is the case, could we erase the 'Segal Company' article altogether?

Please also note the common names section of article titling policy. It appears to me based upon a quick search of Google Books that the common name is "...Company", rather than "...Group". What to do?
Some IP's (in a range that is blocked) warned me on my Talk page about a user that allegedly was previously "lying" and "discrediting" other users. The user that was under question, removed the info from my talk page. But I presume that it is my talk page and no one else is removing text. While I do not support what the IP's wrote (meaning, that I did not even considered it interesting enough to start an inquiry) I consider it as just a point of view. But the user that is bespoken of, argues it is a personal attack and requests me coercively to remove the text. I would like to know whether someone is free to remove personal attack from other's Talk page. And whether I need to give in to the request. Or what other road would be best to follow. I do not like to hear bad talk about other users, but I can imagine cases where it is desirable that users inform about other users. And I like to retain a level of freedom of speech as well. - Timelezz, WP:NPA and the related WP:RPA do apply to all discussion pages, including your user page. Whether a particular statement is a personal attack is a judgement call depending on the circumstances and context, but a statement such as you describe quite possible qualifies. you could edit the statement to change "User:Example tells lies" to "User:Example [has made inaccurate statements]" (or something of the sort) with the square brackets indicating that the original wording has been altered. If the original comment included on-wiki links (or better diffs) I see no reason why those would need to be deleted or redacted. I will say that unless you were interacting or likely to interact with "User A" it would be rather uncivil of "User B" for no obvious reason except to harm User A's reputation. @DES: Would you please review the ANI report and reconsider your advice above. This case involves an IP hopper who has spent a couple of months posting outrageous attacks on an editor (outrageous in that they repeatedly attack the integrity of the editor, while offering nothing but bluster as substantiation). Timelezz is still not understanding what is appropriate for a user talk page, and they are interpreting your generic remarks as at least a partial vindication of their position. . This removed the box with the link you need to resubmit the article. An editor has restored the box so you can resubmit when you are ready. Another has added {{reflist}} so your references are displayed. I suspect that originally you clicked "Submit your draft when you are ready for it to be reviewed!" before having saved the draft. Large Blank Space After Moving Text for Eleonora Abbagnato
Hi,
I did a bit of cleaning up of the entry on Eleonora Abbagnato which had some problems with English usage. I also moved the information about her marriage into a separate paragraph from the rest of the entry which focused on her professional career. Somehow, this created a large blank space between these final two paragraphs and I can't seem to make it go away. Can you fix it please?

Luca Valerio
In reading your documentation on Valerio, you mention he left the Accademia dei Lincei because of fear of the Inquisition. There is no mention of his relationship with Margherita Sarrocchi which some say is a major reason in his decision. I am wondering if more investigation should be made in this area.

Misstake in table on Mobile telephony in Africa

This is supposed to be a table on the 10 main mobile telephony providers in Africa, it has 11 entries and one of them, Airtel, is clearly wrong, the percentages does not add up and there is no mention of Airtel in the source that is referenced. Editing Gas Detector
Hi I have just submitted an edit for the subject of Gas detector.
I received a warning listing about my edit. As this is my first time ever making an edit like this I am not sure if it is a standard procedure or if I have genuinely done something wrong. I have referenced and linked to an article that I wrote on our web page on the topic. However before I did this I checked a couple of other references on the page and they linked to websites. Could it be the original article was going to be a blog but I have changed it to be a static page on our website. I think the URL still mentions blog but not sure how to remove it?
Before I continue I would like to make sure I am doing the right thing.

- @AegisSafety: Your edit triggered an edit filter and was not saved. You should have seen MediaWiki:Abusefilter-warning-links-containing-username. The problem is that you tried to add a link containing your username. As you also indicate here, it is your own website. - Hi KaivalyaNagavekar. There is no automatic translation between languages. You can search the language links on the left hand side of any page to see if there is an article in the Marathi Wikipedia (mr:मुखपृष्ठ) but there is none for Vaisakhi. This really only leaves you with looking for information from some other website or source in Marathi. You could use Google Translate to view a machine translation of the page from English into Marathi (see here) but machine translations are notoriously poor.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:33, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

I always see Wikipedia as the highest source of information in any subject. But when I was reading the list of Hindu gurus and saints I failed to see the name of his holiness Sri Chandrasekerendra Saraswati (paramacharyal) who the people of South consider as the holiest sage lived in the last century. Being the greatest devotee of him and many people from South being highly devoted to him on behalf of all I put this request to you please add his name in the list.

Paid editing
I am a professional copy-editor for organizations that do not have native English writers. I would like to offer my services to organizations that have Wikipedia entries which are not well-written. The work I would offer would not be marketing work (except, of course, that better language gives a better image), but simple brush-up of grammar and style.
Would this paid service go against the spirit of Wikipedia?

- I tend to disagree. Assuming, for the purpose of argument, that the service this person is proposing to offer is in fact copy-editing and re-writing of existing articles, with no significant change in content, I don't see this as violating the current COI guideline. What the "spirit of Wikipedia" demands is hard to say, not all will agree. It seems to me that improvements in the grammar and language of articles that do not introduce or increase bias are quite in line with the "spirit of Wikipedia". That said, i would advise that if the OP goes forward with this s/he should: 1) register an account; 2) disclose this service on his or her user page, along with a list of articles edited in connection with this service, and a list of the clients who paid for each; 3) also disclose such paid editing on the talk page of any article so edited. The proposed change to the Terms of Use would require something of the sort, and it would be best to get in line with it early, in my view. DES (talk) 22:22, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

- People hold honestly differing opinions on this matter, but If I recall correctly, there was an RfC that would have effectively banned all paid editing, and that proposal did not achieve consensus. So when asked for advice, we should not act as if that were the policy. Stating our own opinions is perfectly proper, particularly when asked about the "spirit of Wikipedia" rather than the letter of the current policy/guideline, but it is not a bad idea to make it clear that there is a range of views on the point. I had a previous communication with Osrarius regarding my latest contribution to Wikipedia via external links I added to LifeMap Discovery database (http://discovery.lifemapsc.com/). Since Osrarius seems not to be active these days, I would like to address this issue here with you. In brief, I noticed that all the external links I put during last month were removed by him, apparently because of conflict issues.
I would like to kindly clear this matter with you:'LifeMap Discovery database', is an novel up-to-date database that integrates multiple scientific areas such as developmental biology, stem cells and regenerative medicine which is reviewed constantly by a group of qualified scientists all over the world. Our intention is to provide additional valuable information to Wikipedia users about relevant subjects (e.g., links for human organ/tissue development and more).
Nevertheless, LifeMap people have been in dialog with WikiPedia about contributing content and imagery to expand upon developmental biology subjects.
If such a contribution as the external links seems to be problematic, I would like to kindly ask what is the best way we should approach it.
I would highly appreciate your thoughts on this.

- Well, it looks like the article is repeated twice so cut back to only one, the citations do not have enough enough information (publication date , author - the "cite" widget above the editing box can help with that formatting). I'm rather liberal, but you may not be aware of the photo's on the Wikipedia page "Fellatio". The scientific and legal definitions are OK it's the drawings that you might want to examine for appropriateness. I would think from the definition of the word fellatio one would understand its a verb describing a sexual act. I know some of the photos are artistic expressions, but is this the place to post these and are they necessary? (Question about editing) "Categories Box"
While I was researching methods for adding categories to pages I came across something on Help:Category that I was hoping someone could clarify. It's the last sentence of the fourth paragraph in section "2 Putting pages in categories", and it states:
"The categories box also provides links to quickly add, remove, or modify category declarations on the page, without having to edit the whole page"
These links/tools sound like they'd be very helpful to editors, but after looking at dozens of pages I just can't seem to locate any examples of them. So my guess is that either: A) I'm looking in the wrong place; B) there's something wrong with my account (or browser) that is preventing the links from being displayed; or C) the links were part of the Categories Box template at one time but have since been removed — and the Help page just hasn't been updated yet to reflect it.

- The help page is referring the section at the bottom (usually) of any page that is in a category (including this page, see the Categories below). The help page is, I will admit, misleading, because without enabling the HotCat gadget, you cannot edit categories directly from that box, you can only do so with the article in edit mode.--ukexpat (talk) 16:11, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

Trouble editing normal text near foreign-language text
In Taher Saifuddin, I wanted to edit the date information after the foreign-language representation of his name, changing "born on 4th August 1888" to "4 August 1888 – 12 November 1965". When I attempt this, the "4" ends up in front of the foreign characters. I have tried the normal editor, wikED, and AWB, and it always gets corrupted. What gives? Interviews..... Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Tony Grey
After a few months away, I have decided to take another crack at an article submission after it was declined due to inadequate sourcing. I had sources, but the Wikipedia editor said since they came from interviews they were not objective. (Though I did not quote the artist in any of them, only the bio material that was in the stories.) Out of curiosity, I looked up several other contemporaries of my subject on Wikipedia. Without exception, they all used "interviews" of the subject as sources. In some cases, interviews were used only. Did I receive a tougher editor or is there a rule that interviews cannot be used as source material even though these other entries were allowed? I find myself in a situation in which there is plenty of material, but like many human subjects of interest, it is all found in stories that include interviews. Please advise. Thanks. (P.S. I was rusty when I went back into the article and couldn't seem to remember how to insert a new source properly. It is there in the text, but does not show in the draft for some reason.)

The idea of this project was first suggested by a fan of Led Zeppelin while Robert was on tour during The Fate Of Nations in January 1994. The Mexico show was the last night and while the audience applauded that, Plant responded negatively having a deep desire to continue performing. He was at the end of his solo run. The fan was staying at the same Hotel as Plant in Mexico City met up with him 3 times. They discussed why the fan had traveled from Maryland USA to the show and Plant expressed interest in his Led Zeppelin necklace the "Hermit" among other things Zeppelin. Over breakfast the day after the show the fan expressed a concern and an idea about Plant's next project. While Plant was at first reluctant about the suggestion he made a promise to the fan. A copy of the handmade Hermit necklace for a phone call to Jimmy. Hands shuck. This call quickly led to the fan hearing on the radio back in the States that Plant and Page were in the studio recording. Ten year later the fan on Father's Day delivered the necklace to Security who delivered it to Plant. Plant wore the necklace that night for the Strange Sensations at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. Promises kept by fan and legend! The 2 albums and tours were a great hit to many fans who never saw Zeppelin. [3]

Redirect page prevents moving an article?
Fourth VP-44 has been expanded and now should be renamed VP-44. However there is a redirect page that redirects VP-44 to Fourth VP-44. Can somebody please do this, or tell me how to do it. Rejected article on AFC
Hi. I wrote an article on Ken Block last month (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ken Block (businessman)) and it was rejected yesterday. I followed the guidelines in the AFC wizard to the letter so I'm not sure what I did wrong. The reviewer left a link but it doesn't work. I'm guessing they meant WP:POLITICIAN but I didn't submit Block as a politician. I was going by Wikipedia:Notability (people) ("If a person has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, they are presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article.") on the fourth page of the AFC wizard (Wikipedia:Article wizard/Biographical notability). I included 54 cited references which all pass Wikipedia:RS (Wikipedia:Article wizard/Sources). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. 72.74.204.125 (talk) 00:08, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- It may be that Hasteur meant to type WP:N (the main notability page) and changed his mind and intended WP:POLITICIAN. Since Block is a politician, or at least a political figure, deriving most of his notability from his campaign for Governor and his subsequent political stands and advocacy. So it is appropriate to look at WP:POLITICIAN. He clearly does not pass point 1 of that, as he has never held office. Point 2 could be argued. So we fall back to WP:ANYBIO or the WP:GNG (point 3 of is basically just the WP:GNG restated). I will look this over from that point of view, and respond further. - By the way, while I would tend to approve this, there are a number of improvements that I think can and should be made. First, since Block is largely notable as a political figure -- his business career alone would probably not justify an article -- I would name this Ken Block (politician) or perhaps "political activist". Secondly, in the "Master Lever" section especially there is some prose that confuses what is being attributed to Block or others with what is being stated as fact. In particular, the sentence "The master lever also created an unfair advantage for majority political parties at the expense of minority and third-parties." is stated as if it were a fact, but is uncited. It looks to me as if this is the opinion of Block, or perhaps of the Moderate Party or others seeking removal of the "master lever" option. If so, it needs to be clearly attributed. That whole paragraph blurs from attributed opinion to what look like statements of fact, but are probably continued opinion. This needs to be fixed. Thanks for the help. I'll keep working on the article. The claim "The master lever also created an unfair advantage for majority political parties at the expense of minority and third-parties." is sourced to Politifact.com, WarwickOnline.com. I included everything I could find online that appeared to be a reliable source. There's not a whole lot of criticism of Block, I think, simply because he's never held political office. That being said there are criticisms of Block included in the article. In the "2010 election" section he's blamed by political insiders, and specifically the RI Republican Party, for his part in the 4-way race that got Chafee elected into office (citations 5 and 8). The fourth paragraph of the "Jump to the Republican Party" deals with his poor rating on PolitiFact.com (citation 51). The primary issue was that you had not "closed" the footnote by placing a </ref> tag at the end. That meant the software looked at everything as part of the footnote to display at the bottom of the page. Since you couldnt see the content, you placed another copy of the body and closing and that just repeated the error again.

Switching article and redirect page
Owing to the good faith action of an earlier editor the article on the actress Mabel Terry-Lewis is wrongly titled Mabel Terry–Lewis with an en-dash where the hyphen should be. There is a redirect page with the correct title. The content of the article should be on Mabel Terry-Lewis rather than Mabel Terry–Lewis, and the latter should be either removed altogether or turned into a redirect page. Widths of content on the right-hand side
Take a look at Alois Delug, and specifically the right-hand side. There's an infobox, a picture and a box with a link to Commons. All three are right-aligned but have different widths, and that's making the page look ugly. Is there a non-horrible way to fix that (i.e., no substing in templates onto the page and fiddling with magic numbers there, no hard-coding image widths)? - Well, you could move the commons category template to the left by including "|position=left" to the template but I don't know if that will make it any prettier to you. - The problem with hard-coding a pixel size for the picture is that then there's no automatic resizing according to preference/resolution—but the image in the infobox, which partially determines the infobox's width, would get resized. So, that only works if the infobox's image and the picture are given fixed sizes and the infobox's extra padding is also fixed, but I think that that might cause problems across different viewing configurations (e.g., images too large on phone screens, or too small on big monitors).

Should the "popular culture" information be added to the mainspace article as it is in the draft, or would this be unnecessary duplication? - It was fixed long ago in [5]. A pipe '|' is part of template syntax and can normally not be part of a template parameter. If all the pipes in the title parameter had been encoded as
{{!}}
then it would have worked. Did you use a tool which encoded the first pipe intitle=Bogmalo Beach {{!}} Goa Beaches | Goa | India

Use of "etc" - is there a guideline?
I have noticed "etc" is used sometimes in Wikipedia, but doesn't this go against the principles if it's not obvious what the "etc" means? - I'm not aware of any specific guideline on the use of "etc", Tony Holkham, and i don't think we need one. I would say that, in general, clearer and less ambiguous writing is preferred. If you fell you can rewrite an article to improve its clarity, while still staying within what cited sources support, feel free to go ahead and be WP:BOLD. - Viewing Alok Ulfat shows that the page was deleted in September 2012, and the reason was "One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page". If a person creates a page then blanks the page (and no one else has edited it), it is assumed that the author was conducting a test that is no longer required, and the page should be deleted. You could put a new section at User talk:Yunshui and ask the administrator who deleted the page to put the last useful version somewhere for you to reconsider. Please add a space then four tilde characters (~~~~) at the end of the last line when you post another comment; that creates a signature. Johnuniq (talk) 05:20, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Until recently, the section [edit] links did not appear on any article pages for me. I could edit sections by right-clicking a section title. - it is unlikely to be approved anytime soon no matter when it is actually reviewed. there is no evidence that it meets the requirements for a stand alone article: that independent reliable sources have written about it in a significant manner, and so the review is going to decline. In addition, the formatting is a mess with about a gazillion inappropriate external links in the body of the article. - Wikipedia is not a link repository, and it's not a place to promote a product. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it contains encyclopedia articles. Your content is merely a paragraph describing a product (that "sources" its own website) and a directory of links, it is not an encyclopedia article. Formatting weirdness
The Yonsei University article's header seems to display its name in italics, for no reason I can understand. I've looked for the usual ways in which an article might display an italicised title, such as the DISPLAYTITLE or {{italic title}} mechanisms, and can find nothing. Possibly this is happening through a template side effect, but I can't see it. Does anyone know how this is happening? -- The Anome (talk) 14:07, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
