Categorization

I reckon the case is one of personality. F1 types (and if I am honest I'm probably more a sports car racing kinda guy) are stats obsessives, and aren't so into the biographical details. I mainly got into editing F1 biographies as I was annoyed that so many great sports car drivers (of which JS was one) didn't have any mention of this in their bio pages. CCM Armstrong Rotax

If u didn't put the CCM Armstrong request in To-do list, my error, but if correct... Have added a bit to CCM, SWM, and added both to Rotax engine users list. The one thing that is unclear is the relationship between CCM and Armstrong. In my "Illustrated Encyclopedia of Motorcycling" it says that "CCM became part of the Armstrong group in 1980", but Clews does not mention any of this on his CCM site history, and haven't found any other reference to date. Have since spotted a brochure jpg on cybermotorcycles Armstrong of a CCM made by Armstrong. http://www.cybermotorcycle.com/gallery/armstrong/Armstrong%20CCM%20560MX%20c1984%20Brochure.htm My guess is Armstrong took over CCM in 1980. Infoboxes

Please stop using {{subst…}} when adding infoboxes to articles as you have done for various motorcyclists: it's leaving an awful mess in the articles particularly since you have not supplied all the parameters (such as images). As you can see here, templates like these which have complex code to allow for optional parameters should not be substituted. Could you please either revisit those articles and replace the substituted text with the original infobox or at least make a note on the talk-page of which infobox you used so somebody else can tidy them up? I was talking about articles like Graeme Crosby where you have obviously used {{subst:infobox…}}, but it's not obvious without some tedious digging which infobox you used. It would be much more helpful if you left the "subst:" out: then the infobox would still be there and updates to the infobox template would be reflected in the article; it would also be much easier for people to fill in information which might have been missing. Internal capitals in sort keys

You will notice that I have reverted your changes to Mike LaRocco [3] and Danny LaPorte [4]. Because of the way the software sorts titles, all capital letters precede all lower-case ones, so any internal capitals mess up the sorting scheme. I am not suggesting that the names ever appear as "Larocco" or "Laporte", but merely that they should be sorted correctly in the alphabet, between "Abdellatif Laabi" and "Giuseppe Lazzarotto", rather than (incorrectly) before them both.--Stemonitis 07:11, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

19xx in Formula One

Hi Orsoni. I notice you've been moving the 1950 F1 race reports into Category:1950 in Formula One. In the hopes of saving you some effort, a while back we decided to put the F1 race reports into a "race reports" subcategory of "19xx in Formula One", e.g. the 1950 race reports should go in Category:1950 Formula One race reports, a subcategory of Category:1950 in Formula One. Oh damn - something I forgot to mention. When putting articles into the race report category, they should be sorted by the country name, e.g. 1950 British Grand Prix should contain "[[Category:1950 Formula One race reports|British]]". Normally, templates like user warnings (eg. for vandalism ) should be substituted but the template you mentioned should not be substituted because any changes made to that template should reflect on the article page. Uh, oh, I went ahead and filled in the details, sorry :P. Ok here are the step by step instructions:

go to Template:Former F1 driver and copy the "Cut-and-paste pro forma" (the part that is in the grey box. Copy in the normal mode, not in the Edit mode)
then go to the article page and click on Edit this page
remove the subst:ed infobox. (That is from the part that says

to the part that says

paste the part that you had copied earlier
fill in the details and save

Moving articles

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently copied the contents of a page and pasted it into another with a different name. Image Size

You asked how to reduce the size of an image on {{UK-motorcycle-sport-bio-stub}}. I have reduced it but so that you know, look for [[Image:Name of image.png|40px]] the 40px is the size, reducing this number will reduce the size. To see the change look at this diff

German GP

The German GP was/is always the "Großer Preis von Deutschland" (GP of Germany). It was not affected by the shortlived "Großer Preis der DDR" (GP of the GDR) being held also for some time in the communist state behind the Berlin Wall. Freddie Spencer

hi, according to this webpage [5] he used the NSR500 in RSA, NAT, AUT, FRA, YUG. The older NS500 was used by Freddie in GER, NED, BEL. I also propose to change this text in the article: "In spite of this, he still managed to win 5 times that year on the NS500 three cylinder machine." since it seems Spencer won that year 3 times on the NSR500 and 2 times on the triple. Off-road

It's refreshing to see someone else doing something on an off-road racing topic. I thought that I was the only Wikipedian who would do some work on the topic! Even if you work on 2 wheel articles. I just wrote an article on Carl Renezeder who just set 2 major records in 2009 - only driver to win 7 national trophy truck titles plus the first driver to win both 2 & 4 wheel drive trophy truck championships in the same season. It was be like no article for Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt. It should be on the main page in the next week on DYK. I went to Crandon in 2009, so I'll soon write an article on the Borg-Warner World Championship race. The race was televised live on ABC (free network TV) in America. In a 1000 mile off-road race, breaking and repairing before you win is very likely, right! Don't they regularly fix the vehicle? Everything that I find shows that Roberts and Smith won the race. This one is probably reliable enough to be used in a featured article, probably the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame too. In short - looks good to me. I can't find his birthdate or birthplace either. I wouldn't worry about it - I've had several DYK articles appear on the main page without this info. Anyone can add it if they find it. Cheers! Could you let me know more specifically what footnotes you are talking about? I have moved footnotes a couple of times, and have removed dead links, but I don't believe I've ever just removed one. No one is trying to destroy anything. I haven't taken out a single piece of accurate information. In several cases, I've moved it or rephrased it, but never completely removed. Again, I need to point out that there is an external link to Grote's stats at baseball-reference and the other baseball sites. Thank you for the weird barnstar thingee. I've never been thanked for content creation on Wikipedia ever. I expanded the Stan Lopata article because he autographed a baseball card I sent to him through the mail with a SASE. I wanted to show my appreciation for his continuing dedication to baseball fans, so I decided to turn his stub into a definitive article that covers all the major events of his career. I wrote a longer article for 1950s-60s catcher Hobie Landrith which took a long, long time considering the 120+ references I had to cite. I haven't had much time to expand articles lately, but my current project is for slugger Don Demeter. The work in progress is located at User:Vodello/Don Demeter and hopefully I will get it finished this month.

I don't want these players to be small footnotes in history. When I got to Lopata's page, it was nothing more than a small stub. All articles I've expanded were stubs. I try my best to give them the respect they deserve by writing a mostly definitive article that documents their storied career. My goal is to expand articles of all players that have autographed my baseball cards through the mail to C-Class or higher. I have not nominated any of my articles for Wikipedia:Good article nominations as I don't really have the time to fix up the articles enough, but if anyone out there wishes to improve Stan Lopata and Hobie Landrith to GA+, they're more than welcome to try. Wikipedia is a community collaboration, after all.

You could find the newspaper references in Google News, many of them is in Public Domain. Btw, you should try several of your articles to WP:GA status. There's also Paper of Record, which has the entire Sporting News archives (mostly useless before 1930 as it doesn't search properly and the newspaper are old, but after 1930 is a goldmine). Yes. I went to Paperofrecord to find a plethora of rare information hidden in The Sporting News, especially in regards to a player's minor league career. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to find articles written about the subject in Baseball Digest, which has years upon years of archives in the Google Books archives. I'm pretty sure Graham was a retirement. I also think Ken Armstrong is a mistake made by some sources years ago and reprinted along the way, it should be Reg Armstrong. [6]. This site I've used makes a note of it as well, that some sources list Ken Armstrong [7]. I didn't remove any of the information you added to the Phil Roof article. You were the one who reverted all my edits, saying that Phil liked your version better, so it's ironic that I'm the one accused of having ownership issues. When I edited Roof's article, I changed the opening paragraph to read as follows:

He holds the distinction of being the first player acquired by the expansion Toronto Blue Jays, however, is best remembered as a member of the Kansas City and Oakland Athletics and the Minnesota Twins. You changed the opening to:

I don't see how that makes it more encyclopedic. It's seems like little more than a style change and reverting it back to the way you had it before I started editing the article. Yes and no. If two people are having an intellectual debate, and are unable to reach an agreement, it is always a good idea to see which way the masses go. I've lost this debate a couple times, and I'm OK with it. I don't see the purpose of some of the changes you made other than to turn the wording back to the way you originally had it. It's kinda frustrating and its not the first time I've dealt with this nonsense on Wikipedia (Bob Forsch & John Gochnaur for example). Baseball player introductions

Thanks for advice: what do you highlight, professional baseball player or professional baseball player? I've been improving and correcting the Mickey Mantle article and applied "professional baseball player" as you suggested. All-Star(player) was somehow accepted widely on Wikipedia baseball player articles as All-Star Game, which doesn't make sense at all. Perhaps a Wike article titled, Major League Baseball All-Star player would help? See Info box for Mantle (20x "All Star") which they (Yankee 10 for one) won't let me change. Actually he's a 16-time All-Star (selected 16 years), 1 MLB All-Star appearance credit per season (1959-1962; 8 games).

Is there any historical source for the Italian motorcycle Grand Prix being called Nations Grand Prix? And if so, in what countries/languages? It does not Google, except for Wikipedia and Motogp.com - is the latter where you sourced it, from a modern website, almost qualifying as self-published? Further compounding the confusion is a redirect created by @Orsoni: which is just bouncing around to itself.

It started out with me intending to simply add an image to a BLP (with a caption 2nd place to Mike Hailwood, Italian Grand Prix) and not recognising the infobox link, formatted as [[Italian motorcycle Grand Prix|Nations Grand Prix}}, but so far I've spent 30 minutes checking period mags, books and net, trying to understand the basis for this, because I suspect something's wrong here. Re your edit at Cadel Evans [9]: did you know what Muphry's law is? :) Actually, I'm not sure I agree about the substance of your edit: "former Australian cyclist" conforms with standard English adjective order, and sounds better to my ear, but I'm not a native speaker, but I'm leaving it be for now. I might open a thread on WP:RDL.

Actually, I have another concern: you seem to often link articles like Americans or Australians from biographies, but that practice is explicitly discouraged by WP:OLINK (bold mine): Unless a term is particularly relevant to the context in the article, the following are not usually linked: – Everyday words understood by most readers in context – The names of major geographic features and locations, languages, nationalities and religions.
