Soldiers Monument

Are you still working on this? I can add some early material -- maybe add an "early history" section, quotes from 1860s legislature for intent, information from marble works, quotes re controversial use of word "rebel," etc. -- but don't want to duplicate effort on early history. And, of course, all suggestions welcome. Thanks VT440genoa (talk) 22:46, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

@VT440genoa: Hi, please go ahead and add what you can. I have intentions to keep improving the article but have been focussing on personal life matters recently. Finding out more of the material details is a good thought (and you can see discussion on the talk page about one aspect of that, which is: where is the time capsule in relation to the base?); I had been meaning to flesh out some of the groups that took a stance on the monument, as both the erectors/supporters and the critics over the decades had been described pretty generically in a lot of the documents about the situation, with a couple exceptions. Anyway, may your research go well and your editing smoothly! Arlo James Barnes 23:18, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for your quick response and suggestions. I should have mentioned that I sent similar requests to a couple others. Will get back to you after they respond.

Thanks VT440genoa (talk) 23:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Arlo Barnes, An update: I have two responses and am waiting for a third on suggesting how to proceed. At the moment, I am looking at content and citations/source material, with the ever present concern of remaining neutral on this sensitive topic. I plan to avoid recent events, but can add much on the early history based on online sources, recent books, articles, etc. Proposed history subheads, as I see them now, might be: [see article talk page] Whew. I sent a draft of this to another editor as well. All suggestions welcome. In response to your note above, I plan to flesh out more details on construction (architect, local stone masons, marble works data, etc); will try to find more on the time capsule, but you probably have seen it all -- the dedication ceremony, 1867, and list of contents, then a hiatus until the 1960s when a Los Alamos team tried to find it, and then a city councilman tried to dig it up with no luck, but I'll look some more; and on the more recent events, again, I think I'll wait before adding anything--and now I'm off to those online journals of the 1860s territorial legislature. -- VT440genoa (talkcontribs) 21:08, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Adineta emsliei

Hello, Arlo Barnes,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username 1TWO3Writer, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged Adineta emsliei for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with @1TWO3Writer:. And, don't forget to sign your reply with Arlo James Barnes 09:50, 30 April 2022 (UTC) . Thanks!

Strange "thank" for creation of rejected draft article

Hello, Arlo!

I got from wikipedia notification that 8 days ago. It told me that you thanked me for creation first version of Draft:Rabbit Escape. It looks a bit strange because it isn't the last version. And I also want to say that it can't be "normal" wiki article so it useless. I want to know why did you do it? --DustDFG (talk) 18:24, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

As you can see from the section immediately prior, I'll often give 'thank's for edits other people might consider minor or otherwise unusual to appreciate. However, I believe that there are many tasks that go overlooked but are actually good and valuable parts of the experience of building the encyclopedia, whether or not there is a material link between one and a 'completed' article. Making drafts is one of those, even if they don't pass review (everything's gotta start somewhere; hence the first edit). Anyway, I found the draft via the posting on the LibreGameWiki, if you were wondering. Arlo James Barnes 02:51, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

I undeleted the revision but {{copyvio-revdel}} isn't really the vehicle for doing this. WP:REFUND is a better route for any in the future. Nthep (talk) 11:52, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you; some searching wasn't turning that up, so I appreciate the heads-up. Arlo James Barnes 17:12, 26 May 2022 (UTC)

Matemateca moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Matemateca, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. A tag has been placed on La Familia Health requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Call for presentations for WCNA 2022 and Mapping USA

This is a call for presentations by EOD, Sunday, October 15, for WikiConference North America (Nov 11-13), held jointly with OpenStreetMap US's Mapping USA. We encourage you to please submit your Wikipedia and Wikimedia proposals at Wikiconference:2022/Submissions or OpenStreetMap US proposals at Call for Proposals: WikiConference North America + Mapping USA. We are sending this mass message to you because we deduced that you may be in North America and interested in maps in Wikimedia or Wikipedia, OpenStreetMap, or OpenHistoricalMaps. We are looking for lightning talks in particular on Friday, Nov 11. Some suggestions:

  • Cultural similarities and differences, for instance OpenStreetMap and Wikivoyage (map and describe what you know) versus Wikipedia (verify with citations)
  • Type of licensing for each project and how they differ: OpenStreetMap, Commons, Wikidata, and Wikipedia
  • The flow of information from one project into another, and how maps are generated
  • How OpenHistoricalMap works and possible interactions with Wikimedia projects
  • Your ideas!

Speedy deletion nomination of Boxrud

Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing hoaxes, such as Boxrud, is considered to be vandalism and is prohibited. Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Mattdaviesfsic, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, Reference desk/Miscellaneous, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.

If you wish to contest the deletion:

  1. Edit the page
  2. Remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. Click the Publish changes button.

If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Mattdaviesfsic}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!

Rhinogradentia

[3]? Nothing on that page indicates any connection to the subject? There's the moth species mentioned in the article, but we don't have an article on that. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:01, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

Monotypic taxa articles are usually located at the outermost taxon name, so that makes sense. My source for the name is https://inaturalist.org/search?q=Rhinogradentia. Arlo James Barnes 18:07, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
If I understand correctly, according to iNaturalist, Ecbatania is a synonym for Rhinogradentia? But the species named for Steiner is Rhinogradentia steineri whereas the article on Ecbatania says its one species is Ecbatania alvandella. So is it not monotypic? Are those two species the same? As it stands, anyone clicking the hatnote is given no indication of something called "Rhinogradentia" at the Ecbatania article. Seems to me it should wait until there's at least a reliable source in the article documenting synonymy, right? (and ideally clarifying the species names). — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:49, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

Hello! I saw you created a redirect called "kibiyear"; I was just wondering what it might refer to? "Kibi" doesn't seem to be listed anywhere at the page for year. (mebiyear is bundled into this too; it seems like it could be some type of alternate prefix spelling? But I don't see either mentioned anywhere, and couldn't find anything on a google search...) Cheers, Utopes (talk / cont) 06:51, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

binary prefix is the relevant page; "While the binary prefixes are almost always used with units of information, like bits or bytes, they can be used with any other unit of measure, when convenient." Arlo James Barnes 06:56, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
I see, thank you for letting me know. I'm personally unsure how likely of a search term "kibiyear" would be for people interested in searching for year, although it appears I'm unfamiliar with those prefixes' usage. Do they often get used outside of the realm of bits and bytes? I just am curious whether this opens the door to redirects created from sticking the prefix in front of all units-of-measure of all time. mebijoule, gibiamp, etc (these are probably bad examples). Utopes (talk / cont) 07:06, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
I wasn't planning on any such expansive redirect creation project. If those redirects are useful they can of course be created, but I don't really anticipate that. Arlo James Barnes 20:36, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

A tag has been placed on Category:Articles with unsourced statements from Dec 2023 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 01:41, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Arlo Barnes,

There is already an existing category for this at Category:Articles with unsourced statements from December 2023. There is a bot that creates all of these maintenance categories at the end of the month for the succeeding month. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:44, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

Behaviour on talk pages

Do not edit other users' posts on talk pages: unfortunately I can't just undo this edit and the following edit, but you removed the fact that I had pinged you and another editor, removed my polite request to you to sign your posts (OK, you did so: no reason to remove my request), changed my chosen "pdf" to your preferred "PDF", changed my preferred style of "eg" to your preferred "e.g." ... just don't do it. Ever. Unless there are particularly strong reasons, which there were not. People's posts on talk pages are their own chosen wordings, not a Wikipedia article, and you should not change other people's posts. (OK, possibly occasionally correct an actual serious typo, explaining why, but don't just impose your choices). PamD 12:49, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, discussion pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Just for the record, a templated warning on the point I've made above. PamD 12:50, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

The page Law of New Mexico has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Dollfie Dream moved to draftspace

Thanks for your contributions to Dollfie Dream. Unfortunately, I do not think it is ready for publishing at this time because it needs more sources to establish notability and it should have more prose than 11 words. I have converted your article to a draft which you can improve, undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page OR move the page back. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:49, 22 March 2024 (UTC)
