    Article

Please can you tell me why my last article was deleted? Jedidiahosoba (talk) 00:53, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jedidiahosoba, you moved an inadequate article to mainspace (where the public can see it), so it was moved to a WP:DRAFT and the mainspace redirect was deleted under WP:R2. Sungodtemple (talk) 01:45, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Thanks. Jedidiahosoba (talk) 02:45, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The editor who moved the article to draft space was doing you a favor. The alternative would be outright deletion of the article. You now have time to work on the article and get constructive reviews by experienced editors to help you bring it up the an acceptable quality for inclusion in Wikipedia mainspace. Keep working on it. -Arch dude (talk) 02:07, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much. Can you enlighten me on how to share with experienced editors? so the article can be reviewed. Jedidiahosoba (talk) 02:45, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Jedidiahosoba: certainly. First, look at WP:YFA to get some idea of what your article should look like. After you have edited to to get fairly close to what we need, add the following syntax to the top of your article: {{subst:submit}}. This will add a "submit" button to the top of the article. Click on the button to submit the article for review. There are three possible outcomes: "accepted", "rejected", and "declined". If your article is rejected, it stands no chance of ever being accepted, probably because the subject is not notable. If it is accepted, great! the reviewer will move it into mainspace. If it is "declined", you can keep improving it:the reviewer thinks it needs improvement but it is not hopeless, so don't despair. Treat the reviewer's comments as suggestions for improvement, not as criticisms. -Arch dude (talk) 03:59, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Psst, if you want to show a substituted template, use {{tls}}, as in {{subst:submit}}. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 12:20, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Creating an author page on Wikipedia

Dear Wikipedia, I am known as Andy F. I am a first time book author. I am also a recovering alcoholic in AA who identifies as an agnostic. God and a higher power are mentioned in 6 of AA's twelve steps. It has been an enormous challenge to get sober in AA. I would like to write an article about getting sober as a non believer. I have written a book called "The twelve steps for agnostics" which I believe will help other atheists and agnostics that come to AA with a desire to stop drinking. I would like to include the URL to my website which is full of blogs about recovery from alcoholism. I would like to do this without breaking any of Wikipedias guidelines. I just need some advice and guidance of how to proceed. My account page on Wikipedia is Aaforagnostics Aaforagnostics (talk) 02:20, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Aaforagnostics. Even though you should be commended for your efforts not only to get and remain sober but also for your desire to help others, it sounds like you're misunderstanding some very important things about Wikipedia. I'm not trying to sound rude, but you probably should take a look at Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything for some general information about Wikipedia. There are probably some WP:ALTERNATIVES to Wikipedia that are probably are better suited for sharing your story with others. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:41, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Aaforagnostics. I congratulate you for staying sober if alcohol consumption was causing you problems. But you are only eligible for a Wikipedia biography if multiple reliable, independent published sources have devoted significant coverage to you. We take those standards quite seriously. Twinkle

    how do i get twinkle? MrScoobyAU (talk) 04:03, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@MrScoobyAU: Twinkle requires your account to be autoconfirmed (that means, it must have at least 10 edits and exist for 4 full days). I see that you have 10 edits already, but currently still fail the 4 days tenure requirement. Once you meet both requirements, you can enable Twinkle at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets. Easiest way to request article reassessment?

There’s an article with multiple WikiProject tags that needs reassessment. At some point in the deep past, you could flag an article in the project tag for reassessment, but I don’t believe that is true any more. How does one currently go about requesting article reassessment? Viriditas (talk) 08:48, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It would make it easier for others to help if you named the article. - X201 (talk) 13:04, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@X201 It occurs to me that although @Viriditas may have a particular article in mind right now he is asking a general question rather than naming a specific article because he wants to know the proper way to request article reassessment in the future, and the correct answer to that is unlikely to be "ask the helpdesk for someone to come reassess the article." ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 13:19, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I suggested naming the article, because without knowing which projects are involved, it's impossible to give an accurate answer. The only answer possible is a general "Check the instructions for each project template or the related project" - X201 (talk) 13:30, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was referring to the assessment over at Talk:Aztec High School shooting, which is tagged by WikiProject Crime, WikiProject Death / Suicide, WikiProject Schools, and WikiProject United States / New Mexico. A long time ago, some projects would use reassessment flags, but I guess it never caught on. The advantage is that any member of a project could reassess an article in the category. That makes the job of requesting a reassessment much easier. My understanding is that without that, you have to go to each project and request it on the talk page, which takes a long time and is unlikely to yield results. Viriditas (talk) 00:08, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    How do I cross-reference categories?

I'm looking to find articles which appear in multiple categories. For example, I want a list of articles which are in all of "New Zealand people", "Living people", and "1930s births". How could I generate such a list? HenryCrun15 (talk) 09:03, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Aileen Cannon

Cannon heard the case of Trump v. United States, where former U.S. president Trump asked the court to appoint a special master to review the materials seized from Mar-a-Lago in August 2022. On August 27, Cannon signaled she was inclined to grant the motion; two days later the Justice Department told Cannon it had completed its review of materials that may fall under attorney–client privilege. She granted Trump's request on September 5. The decision was widely criticized, including by legal scholars from across the political spectrum, a Bush administration Homeland Security official, and former prosecutors. Among her most notable critics was Trump's former Attorney General William Barr, who went on Fox News twice within a week to criticize Cannon's opinion. Personal life Leaving opinions like this in there only shows bias. 12.109.95.138 (talk) 10:09, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    • You seem to object to some wording in our article Aileen Cannon. You should head over to the talk page of the article, Talk:Aileen Cannon, to make that objection.
Those sentences are reasonably sourced, so an argument based on "it’s the personal opinion of biased Wikipedia editors" is bound to fail. However, the argument "this sentence gives undue weight to one side" has a better chance of working. Make sure to present reliable sources that say the decision was fine / normal / not exceptional. Unknown references in article Tapiola

The article Tapiola cites two references, "Heideman Jr 1975" and "Hertzen 1959" but never explains what they are. They were added by User:Chris fonty in this edit eleven years ago. That was Chris fonty's only edit ever. Unless these references are explained, they are useless. What should be done about this? JIP | Talk 11:49, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Searching for "Tapiola Heideman" gives this, which is dated 1976. I haven't looked at the text, but I guess that either it is the paper referred to, or another work by the same author. If this paper supports the claim in question, then this can be used as the source. ColinFine (talk) 12:20, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @JIP: I have tagged them with {{incomplete short citation}}. It's a common problem with short citations. DuncanHill (talk) 13:33, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@JIP: a Worldcat search finds two articles about Tapiola by Heikki von Hertzen. TSventon (talk) 15:39, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    @JIP plugging the Heideman info into Google Scholar gives a good-looking result. - R. S. Shaw (talk) 19:28, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! So occasionally while viewing recent edits in SWViewer, I come across someone creating a draft that is obviously a hoax. So should I request it be deleted per G3 or should I leave it because it's a draft? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 13:30, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding page lock and page revert

Hi i would like to know about page locking and page revert 38.105.245.66 (talk) 14:59, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:Blocking policy and Help:Reverting. If this doesn't answer your questions then please be more specific. PrimeHunter (talk) 15:15, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think they're talking about Wikipedia:Protection policy rather than blocking. Calling protection "locking" is a pretty common mistake it seems. Madeline (part of me) 15:18, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I mean, calling protection locking makes sense, since a protected article displays a padlock in the upper right corner. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 04:29, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to disable Watchpage box "Mark all changes as seen"?

I've looked through Preferences and visited the MediaWiki help page (many years stale), but am unable to find a checkbox to remove this annoying box from my Watchpage. Is this showing in Google? The Google Knowledge Graph presents information from different sources and it often looks like it is all from Wikipedia, and we can't control that. RudolfRed (talk) 17:23, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. The same feedback facility is also provided on Bing and some other search engines.

This is not a company; the computers Wikipedia is on are operated by a nonprofit Foundation. Please go to WP:OVERSIGHT to contact someone with the authority to censor any edits by your IP. 331dot (talk) 08:12, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I would add that Wikipedia has no way to know that the person sitting at the computer/holding the device editing is a minor or otherwise a particular age. 331dot (talk) 08:13, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, IPs are not shown if a person edits through an account, minor or not. CX Zoom[he/him] (let's talk • {CX}) 08:19, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To answer a little more kindly than the others: If your son, you, or anybody else, chooses to edit Wikipedia without creating an account or without logging in, then Wikipedia uses their IP address to identify that edits. If you don't want his IP address to be seen, encourage him to create an account (it is free, there is no minimum age, and he does not have to - and probably should not - use his real name). If he always logs in, then his IP addrss will not be seen. If you also want to edit Wikipedia, you should create your own account, separate from your son's.
Wikipedia knows nothing about the people who edit it except what they choose to reveal (which in the case of minors in particular should be very little: see advice for younger editors). It cannot tell whether the person editing is a minor.
If you want to get the IP address hidden from edits already made, see Oversight for how to contact the relevant team, as another reply said. ColinFine (talk) 09:11, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ColinFine Just curious as to what was unkind about what I said. 331dot (talk) 09:15, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The fact that this is a nonprofit foundation rather than a company is almost certainly irrelevant, and unhelpful, to the OP. Maproom (talk) 10:59, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The replies before mine were factual (though not all relevant) but did not in my opinion show any compassion for a person who has clearly been upset and worried by something involving their child. Their complaint may be seen as combative, but that is understandable in the circumstances. I think a supportive answer is more likely to be heard than bald factual ones. I presume you are talking about the article List of last surviving World War II veterans? It says at the top:

as of 2021, there are still approximately 240,000 surviving veterans in the United States alone. Only people who are (or were) the last surviving member of a notable group of veterans are listed. (Emphasis added)

6th Marine Division is clearly a notable group, but a) is your father the last survivor of that division, and b) do you have a reliable published source that says so (not just that he has survived but that he is the last)? If you have, then please post an edit request (see that link for details of how) on the talk page Talk:List of last surviving World War II veterans, with a citation to your source.

One might argue that the fact of his having been invited (or permitted) to attend is prima facie evidence of his notability. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.193.131.160 (talk) 12:30, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Are there reliable sources supporting this claim of notability? I don't think being invited is sufficient on its own. I would expect any person considered notable enough to be in the list to have a Wikipedia article about them, which Amwed Jethu appears not to have. Emma Lewis has an invitation but no Wikipedia article about her, so she should not be in this list either, regardless her good work. Bazza (talk) 12:41, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why do we have this list in the first place? Drmies (talk) 15:07, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
God knows. It's easy enough to find a list online, such as the much more informative BBC listing. Shantavira|feed me 18:59, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How are songs re-directed to their albums via wikilinks?

I'm working on music articles, and in some cases, I can use wikilinks for song titles that re-direct to their original albums on their own. What enables this? And if a song doesn't redirect on its own, is it okay to set up a wikilink that "pipes" to the album (even if the link doesn't redirect to the specific section where the song is discussed)? Thanks. Allreet (talk) 13:35, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Allreet. Sounds like you are talking about a WP:REDIRECT. Someone creates the pointer manually, just like any other edit, but uses the special syntax to make it a redirect instead of an actual article. DMacks (talk) 13:42, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request to remove a blank Wikipedia page

Good morning, I wanted to know what the process was for removing a blank Wikipedia page. There is a blank Wikipedia page of my family name that is tagged to another Wikipedia page. I want to remove the page of my last name. Kindly provide instructions. Thank you. Marlow Kurtz (talk) 15:02, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    • Marlow Kurtz, I assume you mean what we call a "redirect", but if you don't tell us what page you're talking about then there's much for us to look at. We have Kurtz, of course. But here's the thing: the answer is likely to be "no", since it's not just your last name, and it fulfills a function. Thank you. Drmies (talk) 15:06, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      Hello,
Thank you for your reply; the webpage address is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Bidnur&redirect=no
It does appear to be a redirect. There is no information on the page. Marlow Kurtz is my screen name. Marlow Kurtz (talk) 16:10, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Marlow Kurtz. Bidnur is a valid redirect to Nagara, Karnataka, an Indian village that used to be called Bidnur. I see no problem with the redirect. Cullen328 (talk) 16:20, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How to Edit and Update a Wikipedia Page of a Living Person (Celebrity)

Hi, I would like to ask how I can prevent others from changing the entry I did for a celebrity (John Arcilla: John Arcilla). He has authorized me to update and correct the entries for his Wikipedia but some of the edits and updates I did have been deleted and reverted back to the older version, which is incorrect. How do I put a citation if the reference is from the actor himself? Please advise. Thank you. Casa Heneral (talk) 19:55, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Winnicott was my psychoanalytic mentor and helped me to save my first psychotic patient. It was very fortunate that he did because psychiatry far prefers to quieten patients with lobotomizing drugs to helping them with their emotional traumata. In order to make a living, after closed our hospital units, I was able to practice as a GP for the last 20 years of my career. We discovered that psychotic patients became the backbone of my practice. They were so desperate to escape psychiatry and the torture of psychosis that they became the most interesting and rewarding of my career. Id be happy to send you articles I’ve written about this, articles that psychiatry won’t publish or listen to, probably because they have become a branch of the drug industry that make fortunes keeping people on drugs. Using a non-free image in more than one article

Currently this non-free image, which I uploaded a couple of weeks ago, is being used in The Papers of Benjamin Franklin article. I would like to also use this image in the Bibliography of Benjamin Franklin article, but the non-free rational template will only allow for one article to be listed. How does one go about adding this non-free image to a second article in an appropriate fashion? -- Gwillhickers (talk) 23:29, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gwillhickers. Although it's possible to use a non-free image in more than one way or in more than one article as long as each use of the image satisfies WP:NFCCP, the first use of a non-free image is already considered to be quite exceptional to WP:COPY#Guidelines for images and other media; therefore, each additional use tends to be much more harder to justify because cause it tends to be considered one more step up the exceptional stairway (if that makes sense). The way it is done is by adding a separate specific non-free use rationale to the file's page for each of the file's uses.
In the case of cover art (e.g. book covers, album covers, DVD covers), the first use is generally OK when it's for primary identification purposes in the main infobox or at the top of of a stand-alone article about the book, album, DVD, etc. the cover represents, but additional uses become much harder to verify as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3. I don't see any way to justify adding the file to the "Bibliography" article per WP:FREER, WP:NFLISTS or WP:NFC#CS that would not be considered WP:DECORATIVE absent adding any sourced critical commentary about the cover art itself directly added to that article. Even if such content were to be found, it would make much more sense contextually to add it to the "Papers" article and would be unnecessarily redundant and out of place in the "Bibliography" article. Non-free book cover art is pretty much never allowed to illustrate individual entries or sections of "Bibliography" type articles and in this case the WP:HATNOTE to main article about the Papers in Bibliography of Benjamin Franklin#The Papers of Benjamin Franklin seems more than sufficient as an alternative to using a non-free image per FREER. So, even if you were to add a rationale for the use to the file's page, it would be very unlikely to survive a challenge by establishing a consensus in favor of such use per WP:JUSTONE.
Finally, I think the first two images in the "Papers" article should be switched since the "Papers" are the primary subject of the article and its cover art should be at the top of the article. You could even use the template {{Infobox book}} to help do that if you want. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:49, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Marchjuly: — Thanks for your prompt and in depth reply. As there is obviously many things to consider here it would seem best that I just be content with the image's use in the one article. As for switching images, I feel the portrait of Franklin is more appropriate as the lede image, with its definitive caption, since he is the actual author of the letters and other writings, while there is a dedicated section for the publication, where Franklin's portrait would not be as appropriate, imo. In any event, I had little idea of what I might have gotten myself into here, as I've only used non-free images a few times before, one image per article Once again, many thanks for your insights. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 00:10, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Requesting article to move

I've requested the Draft:Ethiopian Revolution in Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests under Uncontroversial request yesterday, and still inactive for several hours ago last edited by GeoffreyT2000. The Supermind (talk) 05:37, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, The Supermind: firstly, every editor on Wikipedia is a volunteer and does what they want when they choose to (or not); such 'backroom' work is less popular than 'upfront' editing, so maybe none of the few editors willing to do it (I am not) have even noticed your request yet.
Secondly, you made your request in or approaching the evening of Western Europe and North America, where the majority of active Editors live – it's still night or early morning in the USA, for example. Give it some time, like maybe a few days.
Thirdly, much of the Western World's (and probably many Wikipedia editors') attention is currently focussed on an ongoing and very rare event, which will be completed later today (I'm listening on radio while typing this, and will shortly be watching). Excuse us while we mourn. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.193.131.160 (talk) 09:43, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:90.193.131.160, First, you're not aware relevant answer for my request here, and second all Wikipedia users are contributing over the world, I don't care about the Western world. Third, there is significant contributors in Ethiopia and not less than 100 users. Ethiopia-related article is growing recently and most native users are active than foreign intruding nationals like the West. Anyway, the article successfully moved to mainspace. Thank you for your responding. The Supermind (talk) 10:52, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, The Supermind. Please don't be rude to your fellow editors. Like the IP user said, Wikipedia is volunteer work. I agree that some of their answer might not have been entirely relevant, but I'd rather not have an argument between you develop.
    Asparagusus (interaction) 12:56, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Asparagusus: Oh! I didn't recognize the IP user means which they said there was congestion over the ongoing death of Elizabeth II and ignored this idea to convey. It came in my mind that the Western Europe and North America are the only contributors in Wikipedia, having greater superiority than other regions, and seemed to me a demographic bias. I'm so sorry for my neglect to this IP editor and I'm sincerely saddened by Queen's death. Happy editing! The Supermind (talk) 13:38, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@The Supermind I predict that many, many more admins and editors who can and will do "technical moves" on the Wikipedia for the English-speaking world live in Wesrern Eutope and North America, which is exactly what IP 90 said. Far fewer of this specific subset of editors will live in Ethiopia, although all editors and readers are equally important. 71.228.112.175 (talk) 05:49, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

71.228.112.175, is true explanation. I agree with you. Most editors have plurality in 2013 in Western, Central Europe, North America, India, Russia, Australia and New Zealand (see Wikipedia:Wikipedians#Demographics). But this data may change over decade due to awareness of editing news and other articles in the rest of the world. It depends on how sources are concentrated toward specific countries, most of them are great powers having considerable reputation to its kind. single-bracket wikilinks with '-en' suffix that can't be edited?

I was trying to clean the Knob-and-tube wiring article, and noticed that there are some links that appear in wiki markup as (for example) [joist-en] (being a link to the [joist-en] article on the English Wikipedia). I tried fixing these, and the article history tells me I was successful, but when I hit the Edit button, those weird links are still there in the wiki markup!

Has anyone come across this before? I can't find any info about this format of links anywhere, either... [User:EditorInTheRye|EditorInTheRye-en] (talk) 08:15, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The edit history shows that you have made two edits to the article. In the first, you made several changes (mostly removing bolding), but in that same edit you somehow changed [[joist]] to [joist-en] - which is not proper link to joist, it displayed as "[joist-en]" (and the same for two other links). Then in the next edit you fixed them. MB 08:54, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm yes, this seems to be affecting all my edits at the moment, maybe it's some server side error? (you'll notice that this edit has changed the user page link to this format as well, which I seem to have no control over) EditorInTheRye (talk) 09:01, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

how to use wikipedia to create personal profile for someone Dr Vidushi Agrawal (talk) 09:57, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The answer is probably, You don't.
Wikipedia is not a social media site like LinkedIn, which contains profiles: it is an encyclopaedia, which contains neutral articles about notable subjects.
If the person in question meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability, then there could be an article about them. The article will not belong to them, will not be controlled by them, will not necessarily contain what they would like it to contain, and should be based almost entirely on what people unconnected with them have chosen to publish about them, not on what they or their associates say or want to say.
If you can find the independent reliable published sources which are a non-negotiable minimum for establishing notability, then please read your first article, to find out how to create a draft article.
Creating a new article is much much more difficult than new editors usually realise, and I always advise people not to even try until they have been making improvements to existing articles for a few months and learnt how Wikipedia works. Note that if the person you want to create an article is somebody you are connected with, that makes it even harder because your conflict of interest may make it difficult to write in a neutral way about them. What is needed is a published Reliable source to confirm his initial. (Wikipedia cannot, for obvious reasons, accept as fact an assertion from an anonymous IP address, since it cannot be absolutely certain that you really are his sister – unfortunately prankers and vandals frequently attempt to insert false information.)
Can you provide either a link to, or the bibliographic details of, an authoritative published source – such as an article in a respected newspaper or journal, or a book from a respected publisher – that confirms "B."? If not, it might be necessary to remove mention of the initial from the article and move it to a new title, such as (but not necessarily) "Michael Wagner (writer)". {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.193.131.160 (talk) 13:43, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm guessing that it is this church in Florida, but it would not meet WP:GNG for a standalone article.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 16:47, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
To explain the answers that have already been given, but that might be a bit obscure to a new editor: Wikipedia is not a list of everything. It only covers subjects that meet its own definition of notability (roughly, that several independent sources have discussed the subject in some depth), and most organisations - even most churches - do not. Only if Power Line Church meets those criteria could we have an article on it, and only then should it appear in a "list" article. --ColinFine (talk) 18:35, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We have more than 100,000 lists. It's possible but unlikely that whatever you mean by "the incorporated list" actually does allow adding it without an article. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:28, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki ED users with usernames that may not be appropriate or unconstructive edits

Hello! I've previously seen users contributing via wikied with usernames that I'd normally consider problematic. However I usually don't bother reporting them because WikiEd should have some sort of approval for usernames... right? I also recently encountered a WikiEd user who made an unconstructive edit to an article (which I warned them for). Should I be treating WikiEd users like normal users or should I be leaving them to something/someone else? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:19, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

From my understanding student editors are not above the law, and in fact some have been blocked for unacceptable usernames (i.e HomoeroticMikePenceExperience). The point of Wiki Ed is to teach students how to edit Wikipedia, not to put them in their own filter bubble in which the volunteer community is not welcome. So, go ahead and treat them like you would anyone else. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:24, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Pppery: Alright sounds good, thanks! I see student editors as in sort of a gray area, they have people who are supposed to watch them, but at the same time they're also normal editors. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:27, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Blaze Wolf you should treat them like other editors, but if they run into problems you can always ping me. I am not a science writer, but I am familiar with the work of NAD Research. Are you able to advise me about the appropriateness of undertaking this update myself? Thank you for your assistance. If the research in question has been reliably published (and for a subject like this, it probably should meet the more stringent conditions of WP:MEDRS) then it can be summarised in the article. Whether or not you are a science writer is irrelevant, but your chosen name suggests that you might be connected with nadresearch.org. If you are, then you have a conflict of interest in seeking to add that project's research to the article, and should certainly discuss it on the article's talk page first, and get consensus that it is appropriate to add. Articles have a 'Talk' tab at the top left; or in this case, here's a link: Talk:Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide --136.56.52.157 (talk) 23:19, 19 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@NAD writer Please read the linked text at "conflict of interest" in ColinFine's answer. Thanks. 71.228.112.175 (talk) 05:56, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Jayvé (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Dear, A message was received that the page of Jayvé may be deleted after 7 days. Could you please confirm that the page of Jayvé is approved by Wikipedia and will be kept please? Thanks in advance, Jonathan JonathanV123 (talk) 04:05, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, the page has not been 'approved'. And nor will it be in the state it is in now, since it entirely fails to demonstrate that this individual meets Wikipedia:Notability criteria, through significant coverage in independant reliable published sources. And judging by your username, you should probably read Wikipedia:Autobiography, and the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest policy. AndyTheGrump (talk) 04:18, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
But how to show more proof? The page is about a DJ who produced 2 famous songs. Links to the songs have been added. What else is needed? Do you need a copy of the passport of the artist? JonathanV123 (talk) 04:50, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
We don't need 'links to songs'. We need evidence that the subject of the article meets Wikipedia notability criteria. Which cannot be demonstrated through a bizarre link to a Google book search result referencing a Journal Encyclopédique from 1775. Or a link to Jayvé's YouTube channel. Or a link to an Amazon page flogging his album, even with the claim that Jeff Bezos wrote the page. Read the material you have been directed to, and come back when you can provide actual evidence of significant coverage in independent published reliable sources. AndyTheGrump (talk) 05:23, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@JonathanV123 "How to show more proof" is to study the information at the links in Andy's first reply (the words and phrases in blue). Especially "reliable published sources". WP articles are based on what independent published sources have chosen to write. The blue links have all the info. 71.228.112.175 (talk) 06:03, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Messed up infobox - Congress of Tamaulipas

The infobox at Congress of Tamaulipas is wierd with multiple occurances of "line-height:1.2em; padding:.1em 0;" that I don't understand. I don't see any issues in the parameters and the infobox itself hasn't changed recently, ideas?Naraht (talk) 06:25, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Naraht: This is possibly due to last month's changes to the conditional logic in the {{Longitem}} template. Perhaps Neveselbert (talk · contribs) could take a look? -- John of Reading (talk) 07:10, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Should be fixed now, thanks for the heads up. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 07:56, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

South African Institute of Tax Professionals

    Good day

I have be trying to edit the page South African Insitute of Tax Professionals, which changed its name to the South African Institute of Taxation.

I have failed at all attempts as I am not an admin of the page, where I have edited some information it always comes back to its old default page contents.

How do I navigate around this and/or fix it as I am the Head of Communications in the said institute?

    Please assist. MikeSAIT (talk) 08:22, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that you are the head of communications does not give you any special rights in how the article should be written. On the contrary, it means you should avoid editing the article directly yourself, because it will be hard for you to write in a neutral manner consistent with Wikipedia’s core purpose.
Case in point, looking at the page history, I see you have tried to edit the page, but your edit was reverted by ProClasher97. They did not leave an edit summary, but presumably they object to the promotional language you tried to edit in (for instance, SAIT’s mission is to uplift the profession (...) Members must adhere to a strong set of ethics (...)).
You should instead head over to the talk page of the article, in that case Talk:South_African_Institute_of_Tax_Practitioners, start a discussion that says explicitly what changes you want (in a "change X to Y" format, not a general "improve this section"). If you copy-paste the magic code {{edit request}} at the top of your post there, it will bring the request to the attention of editors who patrol such requests, and make it likely that you will get a quick answer.
I also see that someone else, with the account name MMMaseko, tried to put in a similarly promotional edit before, and was similarly reverted. Given the similarities in editing timing, I suspect that person is part of your communications team. Please clarify and have them make the same WP:PAID disclosure if needed. @MikeSAIT: As you are part of the institute you have a paid relationship and must disclose said relationship, which is usually done on your user page at User:MikeSAIT. You should also not directly edit the article because of this, and instead make edit requests on the article's talk page at Talk:South African Institute of Tax Practitioners. Also keep in mind that article subjects generally use the common name they're known by in reliable sources. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 09:32, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

    Telephone update

Greetings How do I update the telephone contacts on attached? I would like to change the current Tel. number to 0711 024747

Kind Regards, Doris Mwirigi. Doris Mwirigi (talk) 09:01, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Doris Mwirigi If you are talking about our article Kenya Airways it does not have a telehone number to update, as we do not put telephone numbers in our articles. If you are not talking about our article, we probably can't help you, as this is just the help desk for the English Wikipedia. - Arjayay (talk) 09:12, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 09:13, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
