The 2013–14 season was Football Club Internazionale Milano's 82nd consecutive season in the top-flight of Italian football. The club competed in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, finishing 5th in the league and qualifying for the 2014–15 UEFA Europa League.

Season overview

On 24 May 2013, five days after Serie A end, Andrea Stramaccioni is fired^[2] as Walter Mazzarri is appointed new coach.^[3] Without European football as a distraction, Inter finishes 2013–14 league in fifth place qualyfing for Europa League: on September 22, "Nerazzurri" side has achieved his largest away win in Serie A beating Sassuolo by 7–0.^[4] Inter has managed to beat some records, such as most goals scored in away games (35) and goals scored by defenders (16): in opposition, it had collected most home draws (9) and fewest penalty kicks for (one, failing it).

This season has been the last for Argentine players Javier Zanetti (who made his debut in 1995, becoming captain in 1999), Esteban Cambiasso (who had played for Inter since 2004), Walter Samuel (signed in 2005) and Diego Milito (who arrived in 2009, before treble winning season).

21 June: German side Bayer Leverkusen signs Giulio Donati on a fee believed to be €3 million.^[5]

26 June: Werder Bremen confirm the signing of Luca Caldirola from Inter.^[6]

30 June: The contract of Tommaso Rocchi with the club expires.^[7]

30 June: Walter Gargano returns to Napoli after a year-long loan spell.

2 July: Inter and Deutsche Bank sign a partnership agreement, with Deutsche Bank becoming the club's new top sponsor.^[8]

3 July: Parma announce the signing of forward Antonio Cassano for an undisclosed fee.^[9]

5 July: Juan Pablo Carrizo signs a two-year contract extension that will run until 30 June 2015.^[10]

5 July: Inter sign Algerian striker Ishak Belfodil from Parma.

6 July: Hugo Campagnaro and Marco Andreolli sign with Inter from Napoli and Chievo respectively.^[11]^[12]

6 July: Dejan Stanković terminates his contract with the club a year early by mutual consent.

9 July: Mauro Icardi signs for Inter from Sampdoria on a co-ownership deal.^[13]^[14]

10 July: Both Marco Benassi and Francesco Bardi sign contract extensions with the club, keeping them at Inter until 30 June 2017. Both players will also join Livorno on a loan for the upcoming season.

15 November: The Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir elected as new Inter president, replacing Massimo Moratti, who will remain as honorary president.^[15]^[16]

10 May: Inter manages to get into Europe, due to a 4–1 win over Lazio and the fifth place in Serie A.^[17]
