Hi CBW! May I ask for your help regarding Nashville Airport? For months, an IP has been insisting to remove "charters" that have been proven public. Many reversing one. It was protected for a week last month but it proved fruitless in the longer term. HkCaGu (talk) 02:18, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Change of BI Norwegian Business School

Hi!

I was editing BI Norwegian Business School's wiki page yesterday. I saw that you deleted everything. I am working for the Dept. of Corporate Communication and was assigned to update the Wikipedia page. Could you please reverse your edits to the version I have created!

Johannes

Johannessorger. Unfortunately most, if not all, the material you added was copied from http://www.bi.edu/, and that included most of the images of past presidents and the current president. At the bottom of the http://www.bi.edu/ it says "© BI Norwegian Business School" which means that Wikipedia can not use the material. Please see Wikipedia:Copyrights#Using copyrighted work from others and Wikipedia:Copyrights#Copyright violations. Everything must be in the editors own words or the material must be available under a licence that Wikipedia can use such as the box at the top of Wikipedia:Text of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.
Given that you work for the school means you have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest (WP:COI). You don't have to read that whole page but basically you are paid by the school and are editing on their behalf. What you should do is go to Talk:BI Norwegian Business School and post that you are paid to edit the page, you can use the Template:Connected contributor (paid) to do that. Then you should suggest edits on the talk page so that others can look them over to make sure they omply with Wikipedia's policies. Cold Lake, Alberta

Are fictional characters included in a town's "notable people" now? Because I seem to be alone in removing them. 117Avenue (talk) 00:30, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

117Avenue. Yes and no but mainly no. I found List of people from New Orleans#Fictional but I have no idea if that is common or not. The only other thing I noticed was the second paragraph at Riverside, Iowa. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 02:05, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Notable, yes; but people, no. 117Avenue (talk) 02:28, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
I'm not bothered either way. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:09, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Cambridge,

I wrote this article on the company I work for (one of the biggest jewellery chains in the country) and you warned me of copywrite images. I used the image because I thought it improved the page and as I said, I work for the company - what would you suggest I do? Should I use an image that's not on the website perhaps?

Also, I'm unsure why the article is being marked for deletion - our competitors such as Beaverbrooks, John Greed etc have pages and yet ours is marked for deletion. I am confused, I made it non-promotional?

I just want to get the article submitted - I don't need to it be self-promotional, I just think it's important that it exists. Do you have any advice? (I have read the guides on the home page.)

Anyway, here is the link, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TH_Baker

Thanks! Dave — Preceding unsigned comment added by DavidGSpindle (talkcontribs) 13:40, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Why was the page deleted? I wanted to be the first to write about this artist. He's really interesting and is doing alot of shows and tours but surprisingly no ones written about him yet — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hxrus (talkcontribs) 11:45, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

@Hxrus: I nominated it for deletion, and Cambride deleted it, because: 1) you created the article with just a few links and 2) there was no substance. If you recreate the page, ensure that it's someone notable and ensure you use credible sources.

Request for Guidence

I have been having issues with a IP user recently 87.7.226.37 (talk · contribs), 82.49.196.175 (talk · contribs). On the article Adam Adamowicz, I originally removed a credited work 'Fallout 4' because the only information cited was 'Cited in game and staff credits.

The edit summery by the IP, seemed to be fairly rude. I thought after I found the ref this would stop the IP's comments but as you see here in the history; it did not. I want to put a warning on the IP's talk, but I don't want them to anger them buy adding it. I not sure what temple is best

  • {{subst:uw-wrongsummary}}
  • {{uw-harass1}}
  • {{subst:uw-multipleIPs}}

So should I add the warning, or another editor? Please let me know if there is a better template to use, or abetter way about going this. Thanks, Kyle1278 (talk) 18:43, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Canadian Inuit, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Clyde River. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thule is cool!

Hi CBW! I am so pleased you added the 5th Thule Atlas to Knud Rasmussen, to liberate knowledge from Denmark to flow over the North Pole. I had no idea of this digital project, but of course now it seems not only sensible but inevitable. What amazing times we live in. I am writing this note to see if I could persuade you to start an article on the Fifth Thule Expedition, and possibly the other expeditions, and maybe the atlas project itself. It doesn't have to be elaborate or comprehensive, but I think you have the background (the intellectual culture?) to hammer it out. By the way, I love the Tshirt image. Where else is there a street named after a fetus?!?! I am intrigued by the linguistics: it appears that all the words for different types of caribou have no common root. Is that correct? Fascinating stuff, seeing the world differently through different languages. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 12:49, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

Drhassandaabad. The problem is you didn't add any Wikipedia:Reliable sources. Without sources other readers can see that it meet Wikipedia:Verifiability. The other problem is people add sub clans to the clan list, then someone else removes it and adds something else. This goes on and on until the clan list are huge and unsourced. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 02:09, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
 hi CambridgeBayWeather
about ugaar saleebaan article
as u mentioned that im not yet provided a reliable source according to Wikipedia policy , but i have cited a two important websites and news mentioning about the clan's leadership and lately news update , and i'm willing to provide a further reliable source and documents .
the issue you said people are editing and adding up some lists till the clan list is huge , i strongly agree with you on thin point , talking about majeerteen clan ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Majeerteen ) - major notable sub-clans are like this - no need further listing and editing

Omar Mahmud Issa Mahmud Osman Mahmoud ali saleebaan ugaar saleebaan[11]

source - i'm experienced in Somali culture , history and language , further more , if you need any information or editing suggestions about Somalia and Somali culture articles on Wikipedia , i'm here helping hand with out any demanding profit - as Wikipedia - the non-profit encyclopedia -

Suicide/Junior Seau/etc

Hi there:

Just a quick note to let you know that your patronizing tone and revision of my edits in subject above is not appreciated. My expertise is in suicide prevention. I am neither using euphemism, nor censoring anyone. Wikipedia is about democracy, and it's about knowledge. I've come here with knowledge from my field, and I am applying it.

The word "committed" is no longer accepted in the suicide prevention lexicon. I reference reportingonsuicide.org in almost all of my edits. This change in guidelines is also reflected in the AP style guide. Please feel free to look that up.

Second, removing suicide methods at the top of an article (I am specifically referencing Junior Seau here) is, again, not censorship. Research indicates that the ways suicide is handled in the media can have an effect on suicide contagion. That risk is increased fivefold when the suicide death was that of a celebrity. I made an edit that allowed for the method to still be available for those interested, but it didn't advertise it.

Choosing to handle the subject appropriately and to apply my knowledge to Wikipedia is not trivializing the subject. Please respect your fellow editors and understand that they come to the table with knowledge, too—indeed, knowledge you, yourself, may not have.

Page Deleted, please help

Hello!

I was attempting to publish a page for a friend, the name was "Ricky Gonzalez". He said he received a notice stating the format was incorrect, then it was deleted. When I attempted to recreate the page for him, it informed me to email you first. What was the reason for the original deletion?

Thanks for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by DCancel25 (talkcontribs) 06:38, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

DCancel25. Are you sure you have the correct name? Ricky Gonzalez has been deleted three times, twice in 2005 and once in 2008 but not by me. The closest thing I could see was Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Abramx/Abraham Garcia Gonzalez which is from last December. The page waas created in 2011 and had nothing of value other than "Abraham Garcia Gonzalez nacio el 20 de agosto de 1990 en Ensenada, Baja California. Inversos destacado". I checked and other than the edit to my talk page you haven't made any other edits and that includes deleted ones. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 14:21, 1 June 2016 (UTC)

Winkelvi has been edit warring all day to remove any notice of this actress' death. Multiple editors have added multiple references for various sources (Yahoo, The Hollywood Reporter, etc) and every time this editor removes it claiming it isn't WP:RS and then slaps them with template warnings and threatens them about edit warring. Can you please explain to them that they don't WP:OWN this article? Helper214 (talk) 23:14, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Neither Yahoo News nor Hollywood Reporter are reliable sources for Wikipedia purposes. BLP and RS guidelines must be applied here as well as WP:TRUTH. WP:OWN does not apply, WP:BLP does. -- WV 23:18, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather, I had hoped that Pending changes would take care of the problem, but the issue is still ongoing. Can we up the RPP to full until there is a reliable source reporting her death (if it did, indeed, occur)? -- WV 23:26, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Winkelvi. Is the New York Daily News a reliable source? It's reported here. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:30, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
No, it's not. It's akin to the UK's Daily Mail or the National Enquirer. -- WV 23:33, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Winkelvi revereted that, too. As well as EW and every other source given. Helper214 (talk) 23:33, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Fully protected for now. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 23:36, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
This is the second time her death has been reported (other incidence was back in October) and not the first time a hoax death report on her has surfaced. The problem is that only mirror sites and online gossip sites are reporting it, no major news outlets are at this time. And the "news" of it has been out there for more than 24 hours. -- WV 23:37, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
Patently untrue. This is being reported by multiple news sources and you reverted every single one and refused to engage on the talk page until after you got it protected and the conversation would be redundant. Helper214 (talk) 23:54, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Unprotect?

CambridgeBayWeather, thank you so much for responding so quickly to what was happening at the Noel Neill article. Rumors had been swirling around the internet for more than 24 hours when the article came alive (as so many do when someone has died or is rumored of dying). Caution taken because the article is a BLP seemed the right course to take. With the unreliable sources only reporting for over 24 hours about the possibility of her death, I just couldn't justify seeing a death date and place being added to a BLP without a major news source that fit Wikipedia's description of a WP:RS, hence my requests for page protection. It would see, at this time, that Noel Neill's death is now being reported by the Houston Chronicle and the Boston Herald. Could you unprotect the article so the content can be added? I do request, however, that you put it back on pending changes status as it's likely a bunch of IPs and brand new accounts will come out of the woodwork to put in their two cents (as always seems to happen in cases such as this). Thanks,-- WV 00:58, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi CambridgeBayWeather, you recently declined a protection request for this page because there was not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. It doesn't need that since it falls under WP:ARBPIA3. For that reason, 30/500 protection is warranted. Would you reconsider your decision? --Majora (talk) 02:19, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure about that last sentence as it was not written by me. If a source can't be found then perhaps just delete it or make a "citation needed" note. Abusive protection requests

Hi, same guy as User_talk:78.225.149.66 and User_talk:82.239.43.182 here. You recently granted two protection requests on GMC and Enterprise output management, but I think these requests were made for no good reason and quite possibly very wrong reasons, see also the discussion on User_talk:FoCuSandLeArN and User_talk:Drchriswilliams#Notability_of_GMC_Software. Would you mind reverting them, and telling their author that his move was abusive? That's for educational purposes, I'm probably not going to jump in and crazily edit them right away anyway.

Cheers, VonBlinkendenzwoelf (talk) 00:20, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

VonBlinkendenzwoelf No. As you have been told don't add links in list to companies that don't have an article on Wikipedia. So I suggest you draftT an article on the particular company and see if it accepted. Make sure to provide good references. By the way just because the Spanish Wikipedia has an article does not mean that one must be made here. Also don't add unreferenced material. Finally I am not go to tell either Drchriswilliams or FoCuSandLeArN that they are abusive. Though I will say that an edit summary would have been a good idea. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:44, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
This de-facto policy "don't add links in list to companies that don't have an article" is not what is actually documented in Wikipedia:Red_link and does not sound too reasonable either. For your information, the article in English actually existed in the past and was deleted due to "lack of notability" (the real reason probably being lack of activity fixing things on the article and ignorance of the market by those that supported the deletion), the Spanish article is a translation of it so the use of Drafts may help to cut short some nonsensical reverts and discussions, thanks for the suggestion.
Still, it makes me sad that you support abusive protection requests such as these ones: "Persistent disruptive editing – 2 IPs spamming links continuously today" for 1 trivial edit (not even "spamming links" ...) and 4 reverts I made because 2 other reverters did not document properly their own reverts for one, or check facts for the other. So much for "don't bite": in my opinion what the guy that requested the protection did is what should actually be considered disruptive, and is clearly incivility/abuse according to policies and common sense. Are you really sure you won't reconsider?

VonBlinkendenzwoelf, I've added our standard guidance for this situation to your talk page. --NeilN talk to me 02:32, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks NeilN, I would probably not have found it myself. But don't you think posting this template (or just the link to it in the summary) should have happened right after the original edit today, and that qualifying my edits of "disruptive" and "spamming" given the information I was given at the time is ... abusive? Cheers, VonBlinkendenzwoelf (talk) 03:29, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather, as I currently can't edit Enterprise output management because of the protection you granted, could you please the merger template on its talk page to the appropriate place? Thanks, VonBlinkendenzwoelf (talk) 19:41, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

The Peewee ORM page

Hey, thank you for stepping in and putting a stop to this endless charade on the wiki page for my project. I'm Charles Leifer, the project's maintainer and creator. For the past month or so this guy Derek Anderson has been on a personal mission to publicly shame me.

The longer you guys want to lock this down the better, I say. This guy is so insane.

I would be fine with you all deleting the page if it made this Derek guy go away.

Your revert was reverted with the autobio re-added, my revert was then reverted, and I've reverted again. I've put a notice asking for more eyes at ANI here and have left messages with advice on the "two" editors who are tag-teaming. See User talk:Rexiregum and User talk:Umsaco. I have semi-protected the article and deleted the copyvio. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 07:38, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Frankly, while some of the past additions were clearly copyvio, I don't think the latest additions were copyvio, but rather "custom written" musings on his life. I ran a lot of distinctive phrases through Google and couldn't find any significant matches. I also cross-checked with the bios on his own website [1], IMDB [2], and AllAboutJazz [3]. Similarities, but not copypaste. Anyhow, we'll see what happens when the semi-protect expires. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 08:09, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
Voceditenore. Looks like you are correct. I restored those revisions. Couldn't do it earlier as I had no access. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 07:20, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Disha Patani DOB

Hi,

Disha Patani participated in Miss Indore 2013 contest where every contestant has to reveal their age. She turned 20 in 2012. Her official facebook page has a video of HERSELF on her Birthday thanking fans (13 June, 2016). https://www.facebook.com/DishaToabh/videos/604453726391043/

This is her video where she won Pantaloon Fresh Face in 2012 and she HERSELF confirms she is from Bareilly and a student of BTech in Lucknow University - 2012. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1iQ2o1ilk8

What more can be reliable than the actor herself confirming details in videos? She made a special video to thank fans on her birthday and her fans know 13 June is her birthday. Her d.ob is 100% confirmed as 13 June, 1992.

As for birth year, I dont why her fans on wikipedia are ashamed of revealing it but here is the video from 2012 where she was the first runner up confirming her as 19 and she turned 20 the same year. All her interviews given since 2012, confirm her birth year as 1992.

If there is still hesitation, she can be contacted on her official facebook page to confirm 1992 as her birth year. It was visible for a long time till Dec 2015 when her birth year started going missing. I don't understand the references used are also from internet pages then why are these not considered valid? References calling her "Tiger Shroff's girlfriend" are not reliable as Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani have NEVER confirmed their relationship. Russian military airfield names

Please do not move these articles from X (air base) to X Air Base. Timothy Vasquez, who put together most of the data that underlies our RUssia airfield coverage, specifically found that the Russians do not use an 'X Air Base' convention, merely the name of the town that serves as a metonym for the installation. Kubinka for example - the Russian airfield article is at ru:Кубинка_(авиабаза), which our article followed until you recently moved it. Again, repeat, this is not the U.S. air force, and it violates Russian-language usage. Buckshot06 (talk) 13:47, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Buckshot06. Sorry about that, they were pretty inconsistent when I found them. No problem as I will move them all back to where they were. I don't have time right now but will start on it in about 10 or 11 hours. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 18:38, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
Buckshot06. I didn't get the opportunity to move them yesterday. I was just going to move them now when I thought to check and see what was going where. If I move them back to the original names there will be at least 5 different types of names. Kant Air Base I didn't move, some would be air base, some would be (air base), at least one would be (airport) and some would be at a title that makes it look like a town. I think there needs to be an agreement on having them all at a similar name, probably (air base). I think that moving them directly back to the original name would be a bit pointy and disruptive. What do you think? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 06:35, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi CambridgeBayWeather. Kant Air Base could be considered to be an unusual case given that it's been referred to, as that name, in several English-speak sources, thus creating a COMMONNAME in English. Most of the rest should be at Afrikanda or Aleysk (air base), including the ones that just look like towns; just because we haven't done all the translation of the Russian/NIS town names from Russian doesn't mean that we should have the town names taken up by air bases. So my recommendation is, leave Kant alone, and virtually everything else to (air base). There are virtually no other editors interested in this kind of thing, but I'm pinging Ezhiki because he does sterling and invaluable work on Russian geographical entities (oblasts etc) and has created many town stubs and set indexes. See what he's got to say, and then move them all, I say... Buckshot06 (talk) 10:50, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Buckshot06. I moved them the other day, Category:Russian Air Force bases. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:49, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for pinging me, but I really don't have an opinion regarding the air bases. I've been trying to consolidate them under "X (air base)" when I was stumbling upon them myself (with Gromovo being an exception, since that article is supposed to be primarily about a rural locality, into which the air base information is upmerged), but that's only because this is the convention I've been seeing most often used for the Russian air bases. If it is at odds with a broader convention, I wouldn't know, since any of my edits on that subject are purely incidental. I do agree on Kant, though—if "Kant Air Base" is used predominantly in the English-language sources, then that's what the article's title should be. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); August 1, 2016; 13:14 (UTC)
Buckshot06, Ezhiki. In the case of Gromovo then probably the redirect Gromovo (air base) should have the category rather than the community. This would be similar to redirects for Canadian heliports like Banff Park Compound Heliport. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 20:35, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
Makes perfect sense to me. Thanks.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); August 2, 2016; 20:26 (UTC)

Convert Template

Hey CambridgeBayWeather,

I added some convert templates to List of Canadian tornadoes and tornado outbreaks. The User:Suckerpunch that has undone both my edits and said No need to add conversion rates - Canada uses Metric system. In one of their edit summaries. Is this true for that article/list or should convert still be used?

Thanks Cheers - Kyle1278 (talk) 11:37, 23 July 2016 (UTC)

Suckerpunch I agree with Kyle1278-2 in that conversions should be provided, in this case, as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers#Unit conversions. Wikipedia is for a general audience and not just for people that understand metric. In some cases, such as {{Infobox settlement}}, the conversion is done automatically. I also noted in this edit that southwestern was capitalised. However, as per Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Compass points that should not be a capital. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 12:16, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your quick answer. Cheers - Kyle1278 (talk) 12:32, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
Also worthy of note Kyle1278-2, not everyone in Canada is entirely fluent with metric... I know some people that really only use it for speeds, distances traveled by car (i.e. kilometers and kilometers per hour), and temperatures (there is a reason that grocery stores still list prices of meat in price per pound, as well as per kg). While I was born after metrification (is that the word?), I didn't really utilize it in every day use (beyond what is listed above) until I was in my mid 20s. Even now, I still have to flip back and forth between metric and imperial depending on who my audience is. I would probably use imperial more so if I didn't spend so much time working in Asia, where most people don't know it.--kelapstick(bainuu) 22:16, 23 July 2016 (UTC)
That is something I will definitely take note, thanks for mentioning that. Same here born after, but I still use a lot of imperial units for measurement. Being next to he largest uses of the imperial system has some effect. Thanks again! :D Cheers - Kyle1278 (talk) 13:49, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

What a day for Cambridge Bay! Are the relevant pages all up to your standards? Do let me know if there are any you want me to have a look at. Carbon Caryatid (talk) 21:11, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Carbon Caryatid. All going fine here, how about with you? I need to take a run over to the river and see if I can get some updated pictures of Maud (ship). See here. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:36, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
I made a few improvements to Maud. (When I hear the name, I still think of the completely unrelated Tennyson poem, and the delicious criticism that the title had "one vowel too many". ) It strikes me that Wikipedia is weak on expeditions, historic ones at any rate. I had thought they would be well-covered: systemic bias working in their favour, but apparently not. Have you any thoughts on this? And are you involved with the Ultima Thule project you told me about? Carbon Caryatid (talk) 11:06, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. No I'm not involved with it. Still trying to research stuff for the expedition but without access to a decent library it's hard. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 01:05, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Interesting that the first pic there is of a hydrant in Charlottesville, Virginia where I lived for seven years. Small world. Anyway, do you need special hydrants because of the climate? Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (talk) 03:31, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure if there is anything special. They are laying an underground water line to have a utility system for the new Canadian High Arctic Research Station. Rumour has it that they are going to supply the new houses but I thought it would be for the station. Normally we get our water delivered by truck which is not something that could be practically done on a building that large. However, at this point they are beyond the houses and not going in the right direction for the station. They seem to be heading for the old water pump house. A friend of mine said that they have them in Resolute, Nunavut and when the RCMP house caught fire the hydrants were frozen. Xx236. Wow, that took a while to figure out and involved going off Wikipedia to find it. It stands for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation who defined the ecozone and is used to differentiate them from ones designated by the World Wide Fund for Nature. See List of ecoregions in North America (CEC) and List of ecoregions (WWF). If you look at Category:Ecozones of Canada there are quite a few of them with (CEC). I checked the [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Commission_for_Environmental_Cooperation&limit=250 what links here for the Commission for Environmental Cooperation and found on four links with (CEC) in the name, one is the above list, two were redirects and only one, Mixed Wood Plains Ecozone (CEC), was a proper link. I have a few other things to do but later I will go through them and add something like "as defined by the Commission for Environmental Cooperation" to the first sentence. Hello CambridgeBayWeather. A few weeks ago you moved Captain Asfandyar Bukhari Shaheed to Asfandyar Bukhari Shaheed. User AbdulQahaar, a relatively new author, meanwhile reverted that move. I must say that I concur with your move and tried to explain the reasoning behind this to AbdulQahaar at User talk:AbdulQahaar#Captain Asfandyar Bukhari Shaheed. I hope this can be solved without an edit war, so if you want to move the article to a title without the "Captain" in front of it and keep Captain Asfandyar Bukhari Shaheed as a redirect, you would have my backing for this as I think this would be in line with the article naming practice on Wikipedia. --Proofreader (talk) 21:23, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Tigrinyas

Greetings! When you have the time, could you please have a look at Tigrinyas? As per the speculation template, the link-thrus which don't indicate that the individuals have Tigrinya parentage should be removed. Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 15:24, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Soupforone. Each one needs checking. I see that according to the source in his article that Nat Berhe is Tigrinya. Just an example. If there are sources then they should be copied to the Tigrinyas page. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 15:57, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Thank you, that is what I had assumed. I verified the link-thrus, and the Berhe one indicates that his father was Eritrean and spoke Tigrinya. However, this doesn't necessarily imply that he was ethnically Tigrinya since the Tigrinya language serves as the de facto national language in Eritrea. As regards the other link-thrus, only the Afewerki and Meles ones appear to indicate that they were of Tigrinya parentage. Given this and the template instruction, what do you think is the best way to proceed? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 16:07, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Soupforone. Just make sure that the ones that have sources are referenced. Then use the talk page to discuss the others. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:47, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
CambridgeBay, it appears Soupforone deleted after his own personal analysis and requirements, Wikipedia:There is no deadline Why was there such a rush on his part to delete and give the opportunity for other editors to discuss each person, how can we discuss the Persons if they are deleted from the Notable Persons list with the links provided to their articles? How can we discuss and verify what isn't there anymore? At minimum, bring the Notable Persons in the article for different editors to go through each article and verify or edit? Otakrem (talk) 00:21, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
Alright thanks, that makes sense. I already noted as much there [4]. I'll keep you posted. Cheers-- Soupforone (talk) 19:02, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Comment Alot of those people are/were of the Tigrinya ethnicity. Bahta Hagos was a AkeleGuzay Tigrinya. Ras Woldemikael was a Hamasien Tigrinya. Yemane Barya (Gebremichael) was a Tigrinya. Helen Meles is a Tigrinya. Nat Berhe's father is a Tigrinya. Outright deleting them is the wrong decision here. A Tigrinya person is an Eritrean who speaks Tigrinya as their mother tongue and who has ancestry in a village in one of the three Kebessa (Highland) Districts: AkeleGuzay, Hamassien, and Seraye. Alot of those people that have been deleted do meet this criteria. Every source doesn't have to say they are outright Tigrinya or of Tigrinya parents. I think it is best to revert your edits Soupforone.Otakrem (talk) 21:12, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

Otakrem. They need sources though. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:16, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
This is funny in the Tigrayan article, an entire list of "Aksumite emperors" are listed as Notable Tigrayans and Tigrinyas with no reliable sources and the sources do not even state they were Tigrinyas or Tigrayans. Yet these Notable Tigrinyas who most are living persons from Eritrea with Tigrinya names, are not considered Tigrinyas? Hahaha the irony of double standards in article logics.Otakrem (talk) 21:25, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Otakrem. It is because they are living people that they require sources. See WP:BLP. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:30, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Cambridge, not all of the People that Soupforone deleted are living persons actually, these are deceased persons: Aman Andom, Bahta Hagos, Ras Woldemikael, etc. So the deceased persons should be reinstated otherwise its a double standard to remove them here and permit "Aksumite kings" to be presented as "Notable Tigrayans" on the Tigrayans article.Otakrem (talk) 04:01, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Otakrem, with respect, that is not how WP:QUESTIONABLE, WP:Common knowledge, WP:NOTMADEUP and Template:Speculation work. As CambridgeBayWeather explained, you can't just claim that so and so is of Tigrinya parentage (whether they are alive or dead). Per WP:BLP and the aforementioned policies, you first need to source this properly on their respective pages. Only then can they can be appended. The good thing about ethnicity is that it is relatively objective (as opposed to something artificial like race), and thus it is easy to substantiate within Wikipedia's policies. Just link their actual ethnic heritage on their respective pages, and we're good to go. This should be easy to do if they indeed are of Tigrinya parentage. Soupforone (talk) 16:00, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

I disagree ethnicity is not always clear cut. Infact, a person can be genetically multiple ethnicities but identifies with their dominant grouping. This is not fair and a double standard when other Articles are permitted to do. Someone is of two-ethnicities then they would be identified in both Ethnic Articles. By your logic, I can go delete every Notable Amhara, Notable Oromo, Notable Tigrayan because none of those articles have this requirement that you are using here.Otakrem (talk) 03:17, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

A person can indeed belong to a single or multiple ethnic groups. However, on wiki, this parentage must be verifiable. One can't just claim that so and so is Tigrinya because it's WP:Common knowledge, he/she speaks such and such a language, was born in this or that district, or whatever. And yes, this and the other policies and guidelines above obviously also apply to the Amhara, Oromo, Tigrayans and every other actual ethnic group. Soupforone (talk) 16:20, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Are you requiring that Eritrean Tigrinyas show their IDs in "reliable sources"? What exactly should a source say? Since obviously, you state that "district" and "language spoken", etc don't qualify for someone to identify their ethnicity? Seems you've set a Higher Requirement/Standard for Eritrean Tigrinyas. I will be viewing the Amhara, Oromo, Tigrayan pages to see if you personally will be deleting those Notable Persons also. Are you going to delete those Notable Persons from those Articles since they do not meet this Requirement? In 2 days, I will review those articles, if you did not delete those Notable persons from those Articles, then I will seek further administration support for Unequal application of the Wikipedia Guidelines. Requested Action from You:Confirm to me in 2 days with diffs and the Same Talkpage discussion on each of those pages.Otakrem (talk) 23:16, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:There is no deadline. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 00:03, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
That is understood, but I will be waiting for the same application of the guidelines for the other articles. Also, I would like clear requirements of what is considered an ethnic identification for some person (living or deceased) in their own article, since Soupforone stated that "speaking a language", or "was born in this or that district" is not enough, then this needs to be provided in a specific Wikipedia guideline. Fairness and Consistency in application of Wikipedia guidelines is all I am requesting here.Otakrem (talk) 00:11, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Otakrem, I don't have the time to do all that nor am I obligated to policy-wise. Should you encounter this, though, just make sure on your end that the link-thrus establish that the folks are indeed of actual Tigrinya, Amhara, Oromo, etc. parentage or belong to these ethnic groups' respective clans. This implies common ancestors, which is what actual, non-assimilated ethnic groups objectively boil down to. Soupforone (talk) 02:29, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Things like membership in Clans or subdivisions of Ethnic groups is not something captured for Every ethnic group especially one that does not communicate the breakdown of its ethnic group. This is an extraordinary expectation for the Tigrinya ethnic group. By using this logic, that means every Notable Person in any ethnic group without Online/Internet accessible documentation can be Deleted Immediately just as you have done with these Persons. We should come up with some criteria based on the available online/accessible sources not only for the Tigrinya but other ethnic groups in this situation. Do you agree? Otakrem (talk) 07:14, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

It's actually pretty straightforward. Speaking Tigrinya (which is the de facto national language of Eritrea) or being born into a particular national district (no district is 100% Tigrinya) are not necessarily indications that an individual is ethnically Tigrinya. A person is ethnically Tigrinya if he/she has either Tigrinya parentage or belongs to a non-assimilated Tigrinya clan, as this implies the sharing of actual common/blood ancestors. Soupforone (talk) 18:03, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

A Tigrinya person = Family language Tigrinya, Family origin (a village in AkeleGuzay, Seraye, or Hamasien), Tigrinya name(Gebremichael, Teklehamainot, Deres, Andom, Afewerki, etc), (Predominately Christian but some Muslim (Jeberti). Tigrinya is spoken by 60% of the people in Eritrea not 100%. The Tigrinya population is 50% of the Eritrean population. Tigrinya, Bilen, Tigre, Saho live amongst each other but the Tigre and Saho are pastoralist while the Tigrinya and Bilen are agriculturalists. A Tigrinya person does not have scarring on their face. Tigre, Bilen do use scarring on their face. "Non-assimilated Tigrinya "clan". By the way, the term "clan" is not used in the Tigrinya lexicon. There are plenty of books written on this and your constant deletion of because they meet these requirements is totally against Fact.Otakrem (talk) 19:25, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Well, that's rather ironic since the link you proffered on the ruler Woldemariam Solomon (whom you insisted was ethnically Tigrinya) indicates that he hailed from the "Hazega clan" [5]. This sort of thing and general unfamiliarity with website policy is what is the actual sticking point here, though it needn't be. Again, just link their actual ethnic heritage on their respective pages, and we're good to go. This should be fairly straightforward to do if they indeed are of Tigrinya parentage [6]. Soupforone (talk) 02:36, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Go read the Tigrinyas Talkpage Discussion, I linked a better source on the breakdown of Tigrinya ethnic group and other facets of the ethnicities characteristics. And its not "Woldemariam" it's "Woldemichael".Otakrem (talk) 04:56, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
Yes, that's better. Soupforone (talk) 15:58, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
Soupforone according to you: A Tigrinya person = Family language Tigrinya, Family origin (a village in AkeleGuzay, Seraye, or Hamasien), Tigrinya name(Gebremichael, Teklehamainot, Deres, Andom, Afewerki, etc), (Predominately Christian but some Muslim (Jeberti).. You have forgotten that many listed on that list are from the diaspora they do not need to be from a specific village, and every one of them had a Tigrinya name. as user:Otakrem has pointed out a source that they are Tigrinya speakers and have Tigrinya name will much do. Richard0048 (talk) 17:05, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
I never suggested that they had to be from a specific village or any of that stuff in bold (?). What I actually wrote was that speaking Tigrinya (which is the de facto national language of Eritrea) or being born into a particular national district (no district is 100% Tigrinya) are not necessarily indications that an individual is ethnically Tigrinya. A person is ethnically Tigrinya if he/she has either Tigrinya parentage or belongs to a non-assimilated Tigrinya clan, as this implies the sharing of actual common/blood ancestors. Please also see the policy links and CambridgeBayWeather's indications above. Soupforone (talk) 17:16, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
It will much do if the person has a Tigrinya name, alongside being a Tigrinya speaker or having Tigrinya parentage. One of them will work. As in the case Nat Berhe, a Tigrinya name and parent that do speak Tigrinya. Richard0048 (talk) 17:40, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

The thing is that many adjacent Falasha and other non-Tigrinyas have adopted the Tigrinya language and culture [7]. Therefore, a person is ethnically Tigrinya only if he/she has either Tigrinya parentage or belongs to a non-assimilated Tigrinya clan. Soupforone (talk) 02:51, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

The group you mentioned above does not have the typical names as people of Tigrinya, they are not even from Eritrea they are Ethiopians. Each and every name that were put on the list was a Tigrinya name, and if there is a source claiming that they are Tigrinya speakers, it is sufficient to add them to the list. Richard0048 (talk) 17:00, 24 September 2016 (UTC)
The culturally assimilated ones do. That is the point. Soupforone (talk) 17:30, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather, Richard reinserted the o/r links on Tigrinyas despite your stipulation above that this is against WP:BLP. He also appended two external links, neither of which pertains to the Tigrinya ethnic group specifically but rather to the Tigrinya language [8] [9]. Tigrinya is the de facto national language of Eritrea, so it is not necessarily ethnic group specific. Could you please fix this? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 17:29, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

I have sourced some of the names in the list. If there was not source then I removed the name. You can't add people just based on their last name. And don't force the picture size CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 05:42, 2 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Cambridge, I agree. Merely speaking Tigrinya (the de facto national language of Eritrea) or having a Tigrinya last name obviously does not necessarily imply that the individual is indeed ethnically Tigrinya. If it did, then Shaquille O'Neal would be Irish. Note that the Goitom link doesn't even claim this much, but merely indicates that he wore a shirt with his name written on it in Tigrinya (!). Cheers-- Soupforone (talk)

Cambridge, Richard just blanked the Template:Fvs on Tigrinya, albeit without removing the tagged text. If this persists, could you please lock the page? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 16:50, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

Must been misstake on my behalf, did not see that it got removed I will restore it.Richard0048 (talk) 19:12, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather, Richard has now ignored WP:NOETHNICGALLERIES as well. He has also alluded to the Goitom fv link, although the url only points to a shirt with Tigrinya written on it rather than Tigrinya parentage. Could you please either correct or clear the tagged internal & external urls? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 17:58, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

I've removed the two until positive sources can be found. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 08:14, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Soupforone (talk) 16:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

CambridgeBayWeather, Richard has appended yet other fv internal and external links. One is to a blog piece on Eritrean traditional names [10], and the other is on a French artist [11]. Please also see this official website, which indicates otherwise [12]. Can you please clear these fv links as well? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 16:11, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

The meaning of a name is not proof of their ethnic background. For example there are names like Hickes, Manning, Klengenberg, Joss, Sim, Elias and Lyall, all of which are of European origin, but are now Inuit surnames. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 22:37, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
Indeed. Soupforone (talk) 02:12, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
Why replace and remove the the image/sources on singer Faytinga? She is Tigrinya according to sources, in this case what has the last name to do with it? Do you mean that every tigrinya must have a tigrinya name? Thanks. Richard0048 (talk) 13:15, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
The sources didn't say she was Tirgrinya. It said she had a Tigrinya name but that doesn't prove she is of that particular background. I meant that having a particular name does not define their ethnic origins. For example, Edna Elias (see Elias and Elis#People with the surname Elias) does not really have an Inuk name but she is. All the surnames I gave above are used by Inuit even though they don't look Inuk. Take a look at the third paragraph in the Edna Elias article. In the first sentence there are four other women mentioned, all of which have Inuit surnames. But two of them are not Inuit although their children would be. File

Greetings! File:Dgdfg.jpg seems to be a copyright infringement of a file originally published here. A user claims that that url doesn't exist, but it's working alright for me. The file also appears on an older webpage screenshot [13]. Is the url working on your end? Kind Regards-- Soupforone (talk) 03:07, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Soupforone. Thanks. It was a copyright violation and I deleted it. I found the original here which was from 2005. Before it was uploaded here. Good catch. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 03:28, 20 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, CambridgeBayWeather. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
