I translated an article but I need permission to publish it.

I'm new to editing on Wikipedia. I translated the page "Amiria Press" from the Wikipedia Arabic page "المطبعة الأميرية" but I need permission to publish my translation. Thanks. Sambasoccer27 (talk) 15:28, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

Helped Hi Sambasoccer, and welcome to English Wikipedia, I have posted you a welcome message on the top of this page. In regards to ar:المطابع الأميرية (ar:المطبعة الأميرية is a redirect), you do not need permission to create an article based on a translation, but you must credit the source article. The recommended way to do this is to do both of the following:
  • (a) Have the first edit summary of the target article include an interlanguage link to the source article. Example: Content in this edit is translated from the existing Arabic Wikipedia article at [[:ar:المطابع الأميرية]]; see its history for attribution.
  • (b) Place the template {{Translated page}} on the target article's talk page.
Using the Article Wizard to create your first article is warmly recommended.
If you have any questions, you are always welcome to ask me on my talk page, although you are guaranteed quicker feedback at the Wikipedia:Teahouse. Happy editing, — Sam Sailor 16:08, 8 February 2017 (UTC)

{{Help me}} {{Ping|Sam Sailor}}

Thank you very much for the welcome, but trying what you suggested didn't help. I translated the article using Wikipedia's translation tool, so I can't edit the source. When I try to publish my translation, this is what I get:

An error occurred while publishing the translation. Please try to publish the page again. Error: Hit AbuseFilter: Fixed position vandalism

Warning: An automated filter (139) has identified this edit as containing content that may be part of a page-defacement attack. The ability to make edits containing this type of content has been disallowed for most users. If this edit is not vandalism, please use {{help me}} to ask another user to make the edit for you.

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Amiria Press, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:31, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Amiria Press

Hello, Sambasoccer27. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Amiria Press".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 19:59, 22 August 2018 (UTC)

Notice

The article Michéle Lamy has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Cabayi (talk) 15:10, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

There's more than just the language differences between the wikis. The English wiki has a much higher threshold of notablity and requires reliable, verifiable, independent sources for biographies of living people than most other wikis. I hope you're able to provide some source material. Hope that helps, Cabayi (talk) 15:16, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Institute of Arabic Manuscripts

Hello, Sambasoccer27. Thank you for translating Institute of Arabic Manuscripts! It's good to see a new article that English readers might have missed. Unfortunately, MediaWiki software doesn't always do well with multiple languages. Because the article's citations and templates are in Arabic, the English software can't understand them - that's why the reference section says 'empty citation'. Please translate those when you can. Instead of قالب:مرجع ويب, you'll need to use {{cite web}}, for example. I'll keep your talk page on my watchlist for a bit so if you have any questions, you can reply to me here. Thanks, BlackcurrantTea (talk) 06:52, 10 April 2019 (UTC)

Al-Boraq

Hey there,
I'd say that moving the article to Al-Boraq doesn't make much senses. While at the moment the Al-Boraq service runs only between Tanger and Casablanca, this might change in the future. So I suggest to make a difference between the train service called Al-Boraq (like e.g. AVE in Spain, TGV Inoui in France, ICE in Germany) and the actual highspeed railway line (Casablanca–Tangier) – because they describe to different things. What do you think? --Jcornelius (talk) 09:25, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

  • @Jcornelius: Hello, I would argue that it's necessary to consider context. Spain, France, and Germany all have multiple services running on their high speed lines—Thalys, Eurostar, etc. whereas in Morocco, where the advent of high-speed rail is totally new, Al-Boraq is used to refer to both the state-run service and the state-owned line. Look at any article about the inauguration last November—they all talk about "Al-Boraq"; the name has come to refer to high speed rail in Morocco. If in the future, more services with different names are run on the line, then it would make sense to disambiguate the two, but for now it makes much more sense to keep the one article under the most recognizable, natural, and concise name. What do you think? Sambasoccer27 (talk) 10:59, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
  • @Jcornelius: From Morocco's Ministry of Culture and Communication: "King Mohammed VI gave the symbolic name of 'AL BORAQ' to the Moroccan project of the high-speed rail line linking Tangier to Casablanca," (http://www.maroc.ma/en/royal-activities/hm-king-mohammed-vi-names-moroccan-high-speed-train-al-boraq) —Al-Boraq refers to the Moroccan high-speed rail project in general. Sambasoccer27 (talk) 12:28, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
@Sambasoccer27:: But don't you think it still makes senses to differ between the train service, the high speed project in general and the actual railway line? While the service and the high speed project in general could be described in the same article (to a certain extend), I still think it is more reasonable to describe the railway line between Casablanca and Tangier separately. Even more, I'd imagine the following distinction:
  • Al-Boraq (describing the train service, amenities, schedules, etc.)
  • Rail transport in Morocco (with a sub-section on the high speed railway project)
  • Tangier–Casablanca high speed railway (for the specific railway line, describing the construction and technical details of the tracks)
These are three different things that need and deserve different articles. --Jcornelius (talk) 12:55, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
@Sambasoccer27: Yes, it makes sense to me to keep the service and the Moroccan high speed rail project in general together in one article at this point, as the former is the inextricable fruition of the latter. I do agree that a separate article with technical information about the track itself would be useful.
Also, should we copy this conversation and paste it to the talk page of Al-Boraq? Sambasoccer27 (talk) 14:06, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

I have repaired your cut-and-paste page move

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Royal Institute of the Amazigh Culture a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Royal institute of Amazigh Culture. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:24, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Zaydani Library manuscripts

Hi Sambasoccer27, it was great to meet you at Wikimania!

We spoke about importing to Commons digitised manuscripts from the Zaydani Library - I can find the catalogues for the collection in both the Real Biblioteca del Monasterio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial and National Library of Morocco but not the actual manuscripts. If I remember correctly, you said the manuscripts are digitised, online and available under a Creative Commons license - perhaps you can send me some links? I have already uploaded a couple of pages from a facsimile of the Koran of Muley Zaydan. Check them out - Coran de Muley Zaydan, 170v and Coran de Muley Zaydan, 264r. All the best, Simon Cobb (Sic19 ; talk page) 00:41, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi @Diannaa:, thank you for your vigilance and sorry for causing an issue. I am the author of this article. I wrote it as a student intern back around 2012 / 2013. Since the site has since gone offline, I thought I would put it up here. I tried to run some of the text through Google and got no hits, so I thought it would be ok. Since receiving this alert, I've contacted the company I was interning at to see if I can do it. If they say yes, I may have some questions about how to proceed. I've never done an OTRS before. Thank you, إيان (talk) 01:16, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi إيان|إيان. Just follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission and let me know if there's any way I can help (ping me or use my talk page). There's a sample permission email at WP:Consent. — Diannaa (talk) 03:16, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Diannaa:, the company sent the email and received an automated response with a ticket number. What should my next steps be? إيان (talk) 10:04, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
We have to wait for an OTRS agent to assess the email - that could take a while, so be patient. — Diannaa (talk) 11:17, 11 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi @Diannaa:, do you know if I will be able to proceed through channels within Wikipedia once this ticket is handled, or will I need to follow up with the company? إيان (talk) 23:49, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
Sorry I don't know the answer to that. If the OTRS team finds the permission email to be acceptable, they will notify us. If it's not okay, you will hear back and I likely will not. — Diannaa (talk) 23:50, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Hey Ian,

The majority of the English Wikipedia's readers can't read Arabic, so using the transliteration of the Arabic titles is more convenient. Ex: Ma'lamat al-Maghrib instead of "معلمة المغرب". -TheseusHeLl (talk) 20:46, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Recent changes to Culture of Morocco article by new editor

Hi Ian, You've made substantial edits of good quality to the Culture of Morocco article. Recently a new editor has made some changes to the article concerning languages spoken in Morocco. Could we get your input on this? Thanks, Carlstak (talk) 13:56, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Hey, that didn't go too well. I'm a bit baffled by the shortsightedness of some of those editors. There's the old "oh so some people find it offensive", which is revolting. The COMMONNAME argument is the most powerful, and maybe the only valid argument; it will take a while for this to change in common parlance, if it ever does--I myself am working on it, but it's hard to lose an old habit. The argument that "older sources call it that" is not convincing; older sources can still be cited in the same way, and at any rate it's not others who decide what a people should be called; all this can be handled in the writing process with context and ascription. Two editors used that argument; I do not find it convincing. "Historical sources" use all kinds of terms for people that are now widely considered offensive. And that a tourist was welcomed and did not note any offense related to his use of the term doesn't say much. I'm a bit taken aback by Syphax98's comment and don't know how to respond to that. Anyway, if you or User:Abdeaitali ever want to pick this up again, please ping me--I fully support the move though it will continue to be an uphill battle, I think, until, for instance, major publications offer explicit guidance for the name. I'm not familiar with Ramzi Rouighi. Good luck, Drmies (talk) 01:55, 13 January 2021 (UTC)

Catherine Coquery-Vidrovitch moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Catherine Coquery-Vidrovitch, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Wael Hallaq, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Palestine.

Hi, I saw your addition to the article and I was cleaning up the references, when I noticed you hadn't put page numbers for the André citation - can you add those to the relevant citations please (or let me know here and I'll add them in)? Thanks. Parsecboy (talk) 19:34, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello Parsecboy, the relevant chapter is "Chapitre V - Le drame de 1907", p. 103-136. إيان (talk) 19:39, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Excellent, thanks, I'll add it in. Parsecboy (talk) 19:41, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Oh, by the way, can you tell me a good translation of the article title from maghress.com? I don't exactly trust Google's result ;) Parsecboy (talk) 19:45, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
I think "Mahgress" is fine, but it represents "Maghreb Press" إيان (talk) 19:49, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
No, I meant the article title - Google gave me more or less gibberish. Parsecboy (talk) 20:06, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
Parsecboy Oh, sorry—read your message too quickly. So the title "مجزرة 1907.. هكذا دمرت البحرية الفرنسية البيضاء عن آخرها" could be translated as "The Massacre of 1907... How the French Navy Destroyed Casablanca" إيان (talk) 20:13, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
No worries, thanks again. Parsecboy (talk) 20:15, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Request for inclusion of new reference for Islamic influence on Western Art

Dear Ayyan A new book of direct relevance to this article has appeared recently - see https://www.mei.edu/publications/stealing-saracens-how-islamic-architecture-shaped-europe I have found it extremely difficult to make edits on Wikipedia - whatever I do, it is almost instantly reverted. I think one has to be patient and learn the ropes, but at the moment I am too busy with other work. However, I think that it would be worth modifying the Wiki article on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_influences_on_Western_art since the book/article are directly relevant - at the least one can add a citation, and more ambitiously a paragraph/section describing the work. Seeing that you have done similar edits in the past, I thought you might be interested in doing this Best wishes Asaduzaman (talk) 17:32, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

Mechoui

I just wanted to let you know that I asked for a WP:RMTR since Mechoui is the Common name for the spit-roasted lamb and we would be doing a disservice to the readers by conflating it with every other roast out there. That being said, once reverted, I wouldn't mind if it's renamed "Mechoui" (i.e., if "é" is replaced with "e" to make it less French). Best, M.Bitton (talk) 15:01, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

Per MOS:FIRST, the page title should be the subject of the first sentence. therefore, we cannot have "Meshwi" first. The uneventful image of a piece of meat was replaced with images that show what Mechoui is. I also noticed that while adding images to other articles concerning Maghrebi food, you injected a national element into them. I'm sure you didn't mean it, but given the those articles' history, do you really think that is a good idea? Does it matter where the photo of a dish that looks more or less the same everywhere was taken? Could such edits be seen as UNDUE? Would such edits invite more of the same in the name of NPOV? I hope you'll understand what I'm trying to get at and maybe review those additions. Best, M.Bitton (talk) 16:32, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
