Please properly discuss in talk page of article instead of edit warring

I am concerned that you refuse to properly discuss the contentious material about Tudor Dixon that you reincorporated. I had questioned and challenged said info for being inaccurate and I tried to reword it in a more neutral way. In addition, you also seemingly ignored the arbitration ruling that I included in the edit summary of my edit removing said challenged contentious information.

Said ruling states,

In cases where the appropriateness of material regarding a living person is questioned, the rule of thumb should be "do no harm." This means, among other things, that such material should be removed until a decision to include it is reached, rather than being included until a decision to remove it is reached.

According to WP:CONSENSUS,

Decisions on Wikipedia are primarily made by consensus. [...] Decision making and reaching consensus involve an effort to incorporate all editors' legitimate concerns, while respecting Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

According to WP:EDITWAR,

An edit war occurs when editors who disagree about the content of a page repeatedly override each other's contributions. Editors engaged in a dispute should reach consensus or pursue dispute resolution rather than edit war.

You mentioned an unspecified editor in the edit summary of your revert. In the talk page of the article, in the relevant thread (titled "Restoration of contentious info in place of neutral language ") the only other editor is the ip user, who actually stated, "Why not quote what she actually said/believes, that: 'Liberal policymakers are pushing COVID-19 vaccines on our children and forcing parents out of the process'".

Finally, I see the sheer quantity of the edits you have and your permissions. Surely one would expect that an editor with said characteristics would seek more proper discussion instead of seemingly ignoring Wikipedia guidance and unilaterally reverting others edits while refusing to properly discuss. First off, not a great argument, and not the case in quite a few featured- or GA-level TV series articles, see The Simpsons, House (TV series), Family Guy, Cold Feet, The Emperor's New School for examples. In this case, the title card only features the logo against a black background and is essentially the same as the SVG logo, only low-resolution and non-scalable. All I asserted was a quote from the manual of style. Pointing out that some pages don't follow the quoted text is not a rebuttal–the manual of style still says what I quoted. Question from Qfaceae (19:03, 24 January 2023)

Hi there FormalDude,

Thanks for taking time out of your day and offering to help out. I usually end up editing Wikipedia pages that I stumble upon in my day to day life, with info that's out of date. For example, yesterday I was looking at the List of plants that are extinct in the wild page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_plants_that_are_extinct_in_the_wild) and noticed that it hadn't been updated since 2016. After some wrangling I got the datasheet from IUCN, the original source, and found an additional 7 species classified as extinct in the wild.

My question is this... I can easily add seven species manually on this one page, and keep the formatting all the same, etc. But the template on the side has its own page and, of course, links to other similar pages with many more species- Endangered Species numbered 3,654 in 2016, and now over 10,000 endangered species have been identified. I want to update the template, but I realize this would change the template's data for the Endangered, extinct, etc pages. And I don't think it's sensible to manually enter tens of thousands of species that have been added since the page was edited in 2016.

All this to say that I went into this page trying to make a few small updates, and ended up realizing that a web of pages is significantly outdated, and I don't feel like it's a task meant for the hands of one human- are there scraping tools I'm missing, or anything similar, for getting this data onto Wikipedia en masse? Advice greatly welcomed.

Hi Qfaceae, good question! This isn't an area that I'm very experienced with, but I did some looking and it seems that there are tools like Beastie Bot that can be used to automate the creation of species lists. I'm not sure how to use it, but you could ask the bot's owner or at WikiProject Extinction or WikiProject Plants. Greetings, the discussion is still ongoing, since the outcome was `no consensus`, and according to WP:NOCONSENSUS and WP:STATUSQUO for BLPs, the guidelines suggest In discussions related to living people, a lack of consensus often results in the removal of the contentious matter, regardless of whether the proposal was to add, modify, or remove it., and If you are having a dispute about whether to include it, the material is automatically contentious. should that guide the outcome of this decision so that the controversial matter may be put to rest? It's worth noting that the editors on the other side have made multiple edits to other politicians labeling them `far-right`, which seems highly suspicious to me, and could be considered biased editing. FD, I don't think that is a good closing claim. NOCON is rather clear about this as this is a label in wiki-voice. Those who felt it could be in the lead were generally in favor of an attributed claim. Also, this is a relatively new addition that isn't stable and is being challenged for the first time (ONUS). As such, removal absent consensus is would be the correct path if the compromise, attributed version doesn't have consensus. Springee (talk) 16:56, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

FD, I'm reading the close now and I'm in agreement with Springee. WP:ONUS applies when consensus was never attained to include information in an article, especially when there are WP:BLP considerations. The content was never stable in the article, so there's no plausible claim that WP:SILENT applies, and I don't see any discussions that attained consensus for inclusion by looking at the article's talk page. I'm just wanting to find out where I went wrong today when trying to add information on Wiki. This is my first time trying to add info regarding a tv show I starred in. I have worked with Mr Harry Michaels. I added successfully on his Wiki page a tv show he produced many moons ago. I updated the info successfully today. When I tried to add further info regarding the show "Materialscientist" reverted my info regarding the SBS show called Seeing Is Believing". Have I done something wrong? I wanted to add further information including the cast I worked with.

Darrin Gray Article

Hello FormalDude

The Darrin Gray Article was declined but at the bottom it shows this "This article may have been created or edited in return for undisclosed payments, a violation of Wikipedia's terms of use. I created this article for free.

Is the 18 cited sources not enough or not notable enough? Not sure what else I need to do.

I'd like to be adopted so that I can contribute to Wikipedia constructively; I also don't want to receive messages accusing me of violence. So, are you still adopting? At this point, I am mostly interested in easy edits but would like to increase to medium and perhaps hard with help. Also, I am currently using software that advises me on the correct punctuation, etc., but it comes with lots of flaws. Are you able to suggest one?

Hi FormalDude, I became a brand new Wikipedia editor yesterday and I've got a question about references. I've tasked myself with documenting the regulatory process of Formula One. A sport which I enjoy to watch but also one in a far from transparent universe governed by quite some non-disclosed documents involving commercial parties. This comes with some challenges regarding references.

Several claims I would like to make can only be substantiated by on-line references on sites which require a (free or paid) subscription, or by hearsay information published by editors on specialized platforms (which they cannot formally substantiate as they get their information from their own trusted sources). The last edit that I made, adding an image from Commons, was the morning of April 7, then I saw the article was missing by later that day (today). Improper closure on Talk:Florida Parental Rights in Education Act

I suggest you withdraw this closure. WP:BADNAC stipulates that a non-admin closure is not appropriate when "the outcome is a close call (especially where there are several valid outcomes) or likely to be controversial". Furthermore, in my opinion, your edit history sheds a bit of doubt on your impartiality, as it seems to suggest a social-liberal bias, which conflicts with this RfC. You are not the right person to close an RfC at Talk:Florida Parental Rights in Education Act.

Per WP:ACD#Determining_your_suitability_as_a_closer, you are the wrong person to make this close.[2]. The relevant sentence is For example, if you’ve made major edits in the topic area, or expressed opinions with respect to it, then this may affect your suitability as a closer. You have edited numerous hot-button WP:AP2 articles and participated in discussions. Recent examples include Donald Trump[3], Robert F. Kennedy Jr.[4], and Killing of Jordan Neely[5]. If one goes back, there are plenty more examples, at times including deep involvement. I suggest you revert your close.

As I'm sure you are aware, it's a national issue, with DeSantis a potential Presidential candidate. I note that elsewhere on this page, there is another request to withdraw your closure, for similar reasons. The outcome is not obvious from the discussion, so it should be closed by someone with no involvement in American politics. A further problem is that your close depends, in your own words, on whether or not a particular objection is "reasonable." That's a judgment that should be made by an unbiased observer. I don't know the answer to that. But note that FD's edits included finding a direction another discussion was "leaning"[7], and the "lean" FD found is in the left-liberal direction. It's not opposing the law, rather it's analyzing possible effects of the law, albeit it does suggest those effects are negative. Regardless, it's from a reputable peer-reviewed journal, and has nothing to do with any of the content from the RfC I closed.

The AN review you submitted appeared to result in no consensus, which means the close stays, so please respect the outcome of Wikipedia procedure. I've accepted the feedback from the review and will take it into account going forward. Are you not familiar with what WP:3RR says? I quoted you the language of the policy on edit warring. • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

• Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Hi QuakeyWakey, welcome to Wikipedia! The view count in the mentorship module is a weird thing, not that sure how it chooses what to display. Believe that this is normal because I get same thing as well at times. If you want the viewcount of any page I would recommend pageviews as an alternative. Justiyaya 22:16, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

US Politics Page Looking for Review

Myself and some others are trying to expand info about the major candidates in our Congressional district (MD-06), (I know some other prominent authors like @Y2hyaXM have taken up the effort to expand pages on Maryland politics as well so tagging for interest). Paul Prestopino draft article

Hi there FormalDude. You recently moved the article on Paul Prestopino to draft space due to its not yet being well enough documented, and I've added some things to it. It's not ready for prime time yet, but it's still fairly short. Would you be able to guide me on what it's main weakness is before I try to get it reviewed? I've left a message on the draft article's Talk page also. You are welcome just to correct or remove words in the article as needed, or remove parts that don't work, or add the template for "reference needed" (I know there is such a template but can't remember what it is). Any help you can supply will be much appreciated. I understand the need to careful vetting of new articles, as it's such a bad world with many people attempting to do self-promotion and exaggerating and the like. In particular, much of the "proof" for claims about Prestopino can best be garnered by a Google search, a YouTube search, or a Google image search, as well as the fact that his name already appears in 69 (I counted) Wikipedia articles, mostly as a redlink. I’ve never joined anything like this, but I do support the LGBTQ I have a son that’s 21 years old and he is gay. He’s had a hard time growing up he’s been through a lot and coming out the closet open him up more but still I don’t know how to explain. This is all so much and he’s in a lot of trouble now with the law for defending himself he can’t help who he is. he loves who he is and I love my son and I just need some support. He feels all alone. Going back on your word

With this edit, you said you were going to be "Stepping away" from the Robert F. Kennedy Jr. 2024 presidential campaign article. I see you have resumed editing.

You are doing the exact opposite of what you said you would do at ANI. I consider this a sanctionable action, due to the fact I believe that in that ANI, you knew you were in danger of recieving formal sanctions. A boomerang, so-to-speak. And if not sanctions, your actions were going to be thoroughly criticized for about a week. You "headed that off at the pass", I believe, by issuing a lame apology and saying you were going to "step away". I will ask that you revert your edit and keep your word. Your closure of the RfC at PragerU seems a bit confusing. The RfC was not about simply whether or not to add text, as your closure seems to imply. It was to decide whether existing text should be reworded or removed. Honestly it's a bit troubling that you closed it without seeming to realize that.
