Dishonest synopsis of U18 world championships in hockey

I understand that this is an American-dominated site, with the usual American chauvinism, but why was my revision removed while you conveniently persist in describing the US as "dominating" the tournament? That sounds subjective and biased to me. Also interesting that you downplay the absence of CHL players in the tournament for the Canadian side; my guess is that you are an American hockey "fan" who wants to engage in a sneaky rewriting of the sport's history by downplaying the hurdles the Canadian squad faces in this event. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.0.236.217 (talk) 00:16, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

A request for comment asks whether the Unblock Ticket Request System (UTRS) should allowed any unblock request or just private appeals.
The Wikimedia Foundation announced that they will develop a universal code of conduct for all WMF projects. There is an open local discussion regarding the same.

Arbitration

A motion was passed to enact a 500/30 restriction on articles related to the history of Jews and antisemitism in Poland during World War II (1933–45), including the Holocaust in Poland. Article talk pages where disruption occurs may also be managed with the stated restriction.

Hello Hummerrocket, I want to report you about this user named Wikishreker14. He constantly keeps changing the right edits on the pages and causing an edit war. I already warned him with other user and try to discuss this on the talk page. He is also causing some minor vandalism which I think you reverted too. Can you please contact someone and block him? John McDonough biography

Hello, I made alterations to slave owner John McDonough's bio and it was branded as non-neutral. Isn't objectively admitting he's a slave-owner neutral? The currently existing post calls him "entrepreneur" which has a positive connotation. That entrepreneurship derives from slave exploitation, which suggests being a slave owner was a good thing as long as you donated money. Shouldn't the post not use positive associations by your non-neutral terms? Shouldn't the neutral objectivity be honest about him rather than brand him as an entrepreneur? He controlled the means of his slave's freedom and forced them to pay him for their freedom, which economically benefited him. He benefited off of his working slaves and benefited from freeing his slaves. He was: a slave exploiter. Not an entrepreneur. 19:32, 15 June 2020 (UTC)~spicymint

@Spicymint: Hello, the reason that I reverted your edits was because there was a heavy level of bias present. For example, you stated that "No amount of donations McDonough can change the fact that he exploited slaves for the wealth that he donated." This statement is purely an opinion and is in no way upholding the neutral tone that we intend to keep in this encyclopedia. Also, the lead already states that McDonogh ‎was a slave-owner, which is also repeated later in the article. It's a historical fact that he exploited slaves. That's not an opinion as you just stated. That's a literal fact. He exploited slaves for wealth. Calling him an entrepreneur is an opinion. Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

The Medicine case was closed, with a remedy authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for all discussions about pharmaceutical drug prices and pricing and for edits adding, changing, or removing pharmaceutical drug prices or pricing from articles.

Tom Arie

Hi I recently edited the page on my father (Tom Arie) to remove some factual mistakes and to add links to recent obituaries. I do not have a web citation for the changes, e.g. my father's middle name, for example, was Harry, not Henry, as the page is currently showing. I do not see how I can provide a web citation for an obituary, except by linking to that page, but the links I added have been removed as well. I will re-apply these changes today. Please can you let these changes stand? I think I should be able to correct my father's name, and provide a link to his obituaries online, I am a bit confused why you have reversed these changes and hope this won't happen again! Hello. Here on Wikipedia, we require verifiability in the articles, especially for a living person's biography. Since Tom Arie is your father, you actually have less of a right to edit that article, since that would promote a conflict of interest. Please see WP:COI and WP:BLPSOURCE for more information. Since you have a conflict of interest, you are strongly discouraged from editing that article, and should instead go to its talk page and state which changes specifically you like made (with reliable sources). Following a request for comment, the minimum length for site ban discussions was increased to 72 hours, up from 24.
A request for comment is ongoing to determine whether paid editors must or should use the articles for creation process.
A request for comment is open to resolve inconsistencies between the draftification and alternative to deletion processes.

Arbitration

A request for comment is open to provide an opportunity to amend the structure, rules, and procedures of the 2020 English Wikipedia Arbitration Committee election and to resolve any issues not covered by existing rules.
An open request for comment asks whether active Arbitrators may serve on the Trust and Safety Case Review Committee or Ombudsman commission.

Community sanctions now authorize administrators to place under indefinite semiprotection any article on a beauty pageant, or biography of a person known as a beauty pageant contestant, which has been edited by a sockpuppet account or logged-out sockpuppet, to be logged at WP:GS/PAGEANT.

Technical news

Sysops will once again be able to view the deleted history of JS/CSS pages; this was restricted to interface administrators when that group was introduced.
Twinkle's block module now includes the ability to note the specific case when applying a discretionary sanctions block and/or template.
Sysops will be able to use Special:CreateLocalAccount to create a local account for a global user that is prevented from auto-creation locally (such as by a filter or range block). Administrators that are not sure if such a creation is appropriate should contact a checkuser.

Arbitration

The 2020 Arbitration Committee Elections process has begun. Eligible editors will be able to nominate themselves as candidates from November 8 through November 17. The voting period will run from November 23 through December 6.
The Anti-harassment RfC has concluded with a summary of the feedback provided.

Miscellaneous

A reminder that standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all edits about, and all pages related to post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. (American Politics 2 Arbitration case).

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

There is a request for comment in progress to either remove T3 (duplicated and hardcoded instances) as a speedy deletion criterion or eliminate its seven-day waiting period.

Technical news

Voting for proposals in the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey, which determines what software the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Tech team will work on next year, will take place from 8 December through 21 December. In particular, there are sections regarding administrators and anti-harassment.

Arbitration

Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee Elections is open to eligible editors until Monday 23:59, 7 December 2020 UTC. Please review the candidates and, if you wish to do so, submit your choices on the voting page.
