I just wanted to make you aware of this discussion I started at Winter storm naming. I have no intentions of making any changes to the article myself, but was just hoping to get input from editors previously involved in the article (or recently-closed AfD) in an effort to improve the article and clarify its purpose. I will leave any changes to the consensus of other editors who decide what's best. Your participation would be welcome, regardless of your views on the issue. Thank you. 76.189.111.199 (talk) 22:19, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
Main Page appearance
Hello! This is a note to let the main editors of the article List of highest-grossing films know that it will be appearing as the main page featured list on February 25, 2013. You can view the TFL blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured list/February 25, 2013. If you think it is necessary to change the main date, you can request it with the featured list directors The Rambling Man (talk · contribs), Dabomb87 (talk · contribs) or Giants2008 (talk · contribs), or at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured list. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions of the suggested formatting. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. Thanks! Tbhotch.™ Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 04:51, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
Traditionally, the highest-grossing films have been war films, musicals and historical dramas, but franchise films have been the best performers in the 21st century, especially the Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean series. The only films in the top ten that do not form a franchise are the top two, Avatar and Titanic, both directed by James Cameron. Disney has enjoyed success with its Pixar brand, of which the Toy Story films have been the best performers. James Bond, Star Wars, and Indiana Jones are still among the highest-grossing franchises, despite starting over thirty years ago. Gone with the Wind (poster pictured) was the highest-grossing film for 25 years and, adjusting for inflation, would remain so.

This user has recently reverted your edits out of the belief that you are "uberly biased on removing [the franchise sections]" on the film studio pages. If you discuss your true intentions regarding the basis of your edits, you two can possibly avoid an edit war. Thanks. Freshh (talk) 01:17, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Franchises
Why are you being reluctant on having franchises on some of the movie studio pages. Yes they had them before but why remove them these movies just represent the companies main franchises?--98.197.228.122 (talk) 23:26, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

- I agree with Carrie and would add that I have, as a DRN volunteer, closed your request there for insufficient talk page discussion (which ought to take place on the article talk pages, not on user talk pages, though I wouldn't have closed your request if it had been only on your user page). All Wikipedia dispute resolution requires such discussion before resorting to DR. In closing a request for that reason, I would ordinarily have offered advice on what to do if the other editor is silent and won't respond, but I did not in this case because the IP editor did respond to you, above, but instead of engaging him on the issue in dispute you chose to complain about the process (and incorrectly, as Carrie pointed out, at that). Step away from the Dark Side, Jedi, and use the Force of discourse to solve this problem. Regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 14:37, 4 April 2013 (UTC)
- But I did engage the user. If you look at his talk page, you'll notice I began a discussion regarding the issue. Instead, the user effectively ignored it and came to my talk page just to recycle a question I had already answered. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 18:56, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Finding Dory logo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Finding Dory logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:20, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

I agree with a delete (for now), but in doing a logical expansion of search parameters, it is easy enough to find that the topic of a sequel to Oz the Great and Powerful is verifiable, credible, and sourcable. Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 07:17, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

Oz the Great and Powerful
Hi Jedi94: You have been deleting an entry I have made in the box office section of "Oz the Great and Powerful." Could you please let me know how the current version of the text "does not seem to hold a neutral point of view" and how you would suggest it can be changed? The way you edited it makes the entry essentially meaningless. My entry was/is indeed neutral, well cited and highlights very widely held expectations in the context of the (now largely final) numbers of what the film achieved. This is a pertinent and important point to include in the box office section. I have no agenda against this film (I liked it a lot - the reason I first came to the film's page) but conversely, I am wanting to ensure there are no "fans" who are engaging in editing that attempts to remove anything at all that can be perceived as negative. My entry cites sources as lofty as CBS News and the New York Times in the context of numbers from boxofficemojo - please explain how we can work this out to ensure this important point does not keep landing in the edit bin. Thanks, Sithbasics101 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sithbasics101 (talk • contribs) 08:15, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for discussing the issue here. The connection that was made between Oz the Great and Powerful and Alice in Wonderland by the media was widely reported, per the news sources you provided. That's the only notable part and that's why it was kept. However, the "context of numbers" from Box Office Mojo is original research (more specially it was a synthesis). Basically, you're taking the box office grosses from the two films, comparing them and making a deduction from that research. That's why, along with it being overly written, that portion of the content was removed and the overall subject was reduced to what could actually be accurately sourced. However, I've now provided a more specific source (also from Box Office Mojo) that directly compares the two films instead of leaving room for inferences. Hopefully, it satisfies and addresses your concerns.~ Jedi94 (talk) 18:59, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi Jedi94: Thanks for that. I am currently reviewing the Wikipedia guidelines to more closely hew to page requirements. Once I am fully versed, I will feel more confident in making additions and edits. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sithbasics101 (talk • contribs) 13:41, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Hello Jedi94, I reverted your change. Of course, Wikipedia isn't censored, but the passage is cited to CNN, which uses the "N word" euphemism. We can't override their self censorship. Feel free to find another reliable source using "nigger" if you wish. Take care. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 23:44, 24 June 2013 (UTC)
- Better, thanks. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:02, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
Marvel/Disney, etc.
This is just to let you know that I've re-added the "Films distributed by Disney" category to Guardians of the Galaxy (film), Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Iron Man 3, and The Avengers (2012 film). Category:Films distributed by Disney seemed really out of place as a parent category of Category:Marvel Studios films, since only two of Marvel's films to date have actually been distributed by Disney, so I personally feel we should categorise these by distributor on a case-by-case basis, rather than relying on parent categories. Thanks! Evanh2008 (talk|contribs) 20:13, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- Seeing as Category:Marvel Studios films encompasses only Category:Marvel Cinematic Universe films and considering that all of Marvel Studios films (beginning with The Avengers) are going to be distributed by Disney from now on, I see no rational reason why it shouldn't be organized from parent category to subcategory. The same is done in the case of Category:Walt Disney Pictures films for Category:Pixar animated films / Category:Disney animated features canon and Category:Touchstone Pictures films for Category:DreamWorks films.~ Jedi94 (talk) 20:42, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
- From now on would be the key part there. As it now stands, the majority of Marvel Studios films have not been distributed by Disney. It's more an issue of factually reporting what is actually the case, rather than me insisting on some pedantic method of categorisation. Whether Iron Man (film) and other articles are in the category directly or through a parent category, it still won't be accurate to say that that film was distributed by Disney. The Pixar cats, etc., are misleading as well. Evanh2008 (talk|contribs) 20:48, 25 June 2013 (UTC)

If they respond again, it's not worth the time to continue the discussion and reply, because you and I, and I'm sure all the other editors that saw your notes and had no issue, know that what is stated is correct. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:34, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm happy to have helped. You couldn't have been more correct on the fate of the discussion. Considering how routinely the article is edited, no other editor has yet to challenge the content in my footnote, which, as you said, states a verified fact. Sometimes the sky just isn't always blue and clear for certain people. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 03:58, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Saving Mr. Banks logo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading File:Saving Mr. Banks logo.jpg.
Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 08:15, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Question on templates
I have a question, is it against the rules to add company names to templates that don't have articles linked? Sorry if that sounds confusing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.46.224.17 (talk) 22:56, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
- It be best not to because templates are used primarily for navigation among related articles. If the article doesn't exist, it's inclusion in the template typically shouldn't. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 03:18, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- Okay, what about having two of the templates on one article if it's from one company. Such as one template for Sony Corporation with the Sony Pictures section and a Sony Pictures template. Is that a good idea or a bad idea? 99.46.224.17 (talk) 20:02, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's a tough subject. It depends how necessary the templates really will be. If the second template, let's say, will only have three links or so, then no. If both templates are roughly equal in size and contain a reasonable amounts of navigation links, then yes. What templates are you specifically speaking of? ~ Jedi94 (talk) 02:10, 3 August 2013 (UTC)
- They are Sony Corporation and Sony Pictures Entertainment. User:Spshu keeps removing the Sony Pictures template from the main Sony Corporation template because it's in direct. Is it necessary to have the Sony Pictures template in the Sony Corporation template all because it has its own template? 99.46.224.17 (talk) 12:38, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- He's right. The content you're adding in (although it is Sony's) is too specific and works better in its own template. It's best to leave the Sony Pictures Entertainment template out of the main Sony Corporation template. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 17:07, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- And not adding the Sony Corporation template on WP Sony Pictures pages? 99.46.224.17 (talk) 13:24, 5 August 2013 (UTC)
- From what I see, the only Sony Pictures Entertainment related page that should include the Sony Corporation template should be the main one (Sony Pictures Entertainment). The rest (such as Columbia Pictures), really shouldn't because they're already covered by Sony Pictures Entertainment template. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 17:59, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

- Your edit was reverted because it was wrong. The film's official title is Lee Daniels' The Butler, although the article name remains simply as The Butler to satisfy WP:COMMONNAME. In retrospect, I should have just undid your edit, and provided an edit summary. My mistake on that part. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 17:26, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give The Great Gonzo a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you.
Additionally, any reason you uploaded a new image for the article? Was there anything wrong with the old one? עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 16:16, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Opting in to VisualEditor
As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 100 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable
". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:26, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Disneyland posters
Hence your November 14 Star Tours—The Adventures Continue edit, could you upload more Disneyland posters? 67.2.206.159 (talk) 22:58, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, but only if I find suitable ones for use in articles that currently do not have any universally-representative image. For instance, the Star Tours—The Adventures Continue article did not have a singular all-inclusive image to represent all three attractions, therefore the official poster that I uploaded, fulfills that role. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 23:56, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

- I was lead to believe that they were just (digital) bonus tracks exclusive to certain territories. My apologies. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 17:14, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
- Yes they are, but these digital bonus tracks are meant for the first CD, not the second. If I were to look at the article with the foreign-language tracks below the 2nd CD, I would be confused to which CD these tracks are inserted to, unless the same track exists on both CDs. dXterminator017 | (discuss) 03:10, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
- I know, I know. I overlooked the fact that it distorted the order the tracks came in. Thanks for bringing the issue up, because I wouldn't have noticed it. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 04:01, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
