Re: Messi's Honours
Hi, just wanted to let you know that apparently the discussion on Messi's honours has finally been closed and a consensus was achieved, so now that issue should finally be cleared up, which is a relief, and should make these situations far easier to deal with in the future! Lineup graphic
Hey, I'm currently working up the classic 1998 play-off final between Charlton and Sunderland, and I wondered if you would be able to knock me up a starting lineup graphic like you have on the 1999 FA Cup Final article, i.e. File:Man Utd vs Newcastle 1999-05-22.svg? I have a Guardian source saying both teams lined up as 4-4-2, so it should be quite straight forward if you still have the source for the one you did already? If not, no worries. Cheers. Alexis Sánchez or just Alexis
Hi. I have no personal opinion, only using what other editors have settled on in his article, and in his native language article (Alexis Sánchez). Both say a variation of using the single name Alexis. I also checked the standalone use of his combined name (9 occurrences) vs solo Sánchez (53 occurrences) vs solo Alexis (a majority, 97 occurrences), in the body of his es.wiki article. Judging by the style of your edit summary on the revert ("he's not really mononymous though, is he?"), is there reason to believe that his personal articles are wrong? If they are wrong, perhaps the heading of his articles, in both languages, should be adjusted to say "is sometimes (or occasionally?) referred to by just Alexis"? Looking back now through the history of the article, it had long periods with "sometimes known simply as Alexis", adjusted to a long period of "known as Alexis Sánchez or simply Alexis", then "known simply as Alexis" since June 2016. Is there a definitive answer, before going MOS:SURNAME in his article? Hope you can help. Jmg38 (talk) 10:20, 26 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi. You seem to want to edit-war on this yet again. It's been raised multiple times, with the most recent discussion (that I could find) having the rationale of WP:RETAIN being the best option. You say there is "there is zero reason for this to be central on the page", yet there is zero reason for your instance on changing this. 3-5-2
The formation wiki isn't just for popular formations. It contains most formations used in the history of football including ones no longer used. When reading the 3-5-2 it makes it seem like it's a rare formation that rarely gets used which is not the case. Specifying that it is a common formation is beneficial. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mbuonastella (talk • contribs) 02:27, 14 July 2020 (UTC)

Wolfsberger AC
There is a consensus in English Wikipedia to follow WP:KARLSRUHER, which is used for almost 10 years already, and you know about that, cause this was already discussed in December 2019 (and noone supported your idea of changing name). If you think this should be changed you should start new discussion in WP:WPF and reach new consensus. But you can't make such changes just because you want so. Alex (talk) 09:17, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Since when does that essay have widespread acceptance among the community? Not only that, the essay explicitly states "a shortened name can be used, once the proper name has been established". I don't have a problem with establishing the identity of the club using its longer name, but once that has been done, there is no need to avoid using the shorter name, especially in cases where that shorter name is in use in the English-speaking media. – PeeJay 09:48, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- It has widespread acceptance among the community for like 10 years already. As you obviously saw, naming of German and Austrian clubs done with accordance with that essay and everyone were fine with that. And now you just came and think you can change that just cause you want, without discussing it with anyone. Also I like how you intentionally missed the main part of the sentence: "Obviously in article prose, a shortened name can be used, once the proper name has been established, to make the text flow more easily". Seems like you either have short memory, or intentionally pretending that you don't know about this, despite it being discussed in 2018 and YOU participated in that discussion: [2]. Alex (talk) 10:04, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- What difference does it make whether it's in the article prose or anywhere else? And yes, I've seen the essay and I know a few people like to cite it because it has the WP:KARLSRUHER redirect, which is easy to remember, but I disagree that it is supported by a consensus. I'm not the only one who disagrees with it. – PeeJay 10:24, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Name Wolfsberger AC was used everywhere in English Wikipedia since club got that name. So this is current consensus. If you disagree with this naming - create discussion and discuss. But I know they you're not doing this cause you know that people won't support you (as happened last time) and hoping that you can just quietly change naming. Alex (talk) 10:34, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- Just because something has been done a certain way for a long time doesn't mean that way is correct. Please provide evidence that the club should only be referred to as Wolfsberger AC. – PeeJay 10:38, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- It's not you who decide if this is correct or not. Using for a long time means that it's current consensus. Create the discussion and make an attempt to reach new consensus if you want so. Alex (talk) 10:41, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- First you have to establish that WP:KARLSRUHER is something to be followed. There is no evidence that the assertions there are correct, so why should we follow it? I can provide you with evidence that the club is known as just "Wolfsberg" for short, but no one has yet provided any evidence that they should be referred to as "Wolfsberger AC". – PeeJay 10:44, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
- It doesn't work like that. It has already been followed for years now so it's YOU who should establish why it shouldn't be followed anymore. It's not just me or you who decide if it should be followed or not. Create discussion (writing this for like fifth time) and write your thoughts there. If people will agree that naming should be changed - then change it everywhere, not just in one single article. And this is last time I'm moving what you have wrote to this talk page. I'm not going to answer anything you wrote on my talk page anymore cause I'm tired of moving you comments to here everytime. Alex (talk) 11:27, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

List of Belgian football transfers summer 2020
Hi PeeJay, I agree loan returns are not transfers per sé, imho they are an integral part of the overview because these are players are shifting teams, same goes for retirements and contracts being terminated. Hence I added the information explaining that, why do you insist on having these removed?
Similarly, the overview by team imho is a very useful addition and maybe even more so than the view per day (although that one also has valid information to see from which day a player was available for a club). Anyway in short, I don't agree with your edits. Notice as well this Template:Belgian football transfers, which shows all the previous year's articles in a similar format and with loans/retirements/etc... included. RE:English flags on list of English football transfers summer 2020
Hi there,
It is not my intention to launch an 'edit war', I am just simply keeping the list in line with previous lists on the same subject which all have English flags for players. I also believe that some people who may view this page could get slightly confused at the lack of flags for players if they have viewed said previous lists. I hope we can continue to leave flags for players as they are so as to avoid confusion and lack of stability between lists. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BooTubeist (talk • contribs) 15:05, 20 August 2020 (UTC)

Invitation vs qualification
Hi,
Recentlty I updated 1971–72 UEFA Cup page, and I saw that you cleaned that up. Thanks. I have one question. You corrected this sentence from
"Originally 64 teams were expected to play, but before their first match Vllaznia from Albania withdrawn."
to
"64 teams qualified, but Vllaznia from Albania withdrew before their first match."
I really appreciate the syntactic updates, but I have a semantic question/concern. According to Bert Kassies page in that year clubs were invited by UEFA, which - in my opinion - is not identical to being qualified. Unfortunately I don't know how many teams were originally invited, that's why I wrote "64 teams were expected to play" because that's the only information what I know (according to UEFA and RSSSF).
Regards,

Charity Shield/League Cup/FA Cup substitutions
Hi PeeJay,
I’m not saying that any of the edits that you’ve made are wrong. However, as the history of substitutions in English football is an extremely complex issue, I thought I would discuss some of the edits that you’ve made to various pages.
I notice that it was you who created the following five articles: 1977 FA Charity Shield, 1983 FA Charity Shield, 1985 FA Charity Shield, 1993 FA Charity Shield, 1994 FA Charity Shield.
Are you 100% sure that teams were allowed to make three substitutions in the 1977, 1985 and 1993 editions of the FA Charity Shield.
The reason I ask this question is because – if this is true – it would make it the first competition in English football to allow this to happen until it was permitted in the Football League in 1993/94 and the FA Premier League in 1994/95.
The fact that three substitutions never actually took place until the 1995 edition of the FA Charity Shield makes me sceptical that it is true, although it could have been the case that one of the three substitutes needed to replace a goalkeeper prior to 1995. That would make sense because the chances of a goalkeeper getting replaced and two further substitutes entering the field are pretty high odds.
Likewise, are you 100% sure that teams were allowed to make two substitutions in the 1983 and 1994 editions of the FA Charity Shield?
The reason I ask this question is because it’s very rare for a competition to reduce the number of substitutions a team can make from the previous year, although the Football League did reduce the amount of players who could sit on the bench in 2011/12 from seven to five. Obviously this current season saw some changes to substitutions too but the previous measures were only supposed to be temporary.
Thirdly, I notice that you made the following edit to the page entitled 1994 Football League Cup Final:
Are you 100% sure that only two of the three substitutes could be used?
The reason why I ask this question is because in 1992/93 and 1993/94, the FA Premier League and the Football League had different rules regarding substitutions. In 1992/93, the Football League Cup and FA Cup both aligned their rules regarding substitutions with the Football League. So I find it very strange that both cup competitions would change tact and align their rules regarding substitutions with the FA Premier League the following season.
So, for the reason mentioned, I’m also sceptical whether the 1994 FA Cup Final article – which also says only two of the three substitutes could be used – is correct, although it was a different contributor who added the information in this instance.
To provide some context, in 1992/93, the FA Premier League allowed teams to name three players on the bench whereas the Football League only allowed teams to name two players on the bench (both competitions allowed two substitutions to be made). However, in 1993/94, the Football League allowed teams to make three substitutions – as long as one of the players replaced was a goalkeeper – whereas the FA Premier League only allowed teams to make two substitutions (both competitions allowed three substitutes to be named on the bench). In 1994/95 and 1995/96, the FA Premier League, Football League, Football League Cup and FA Cup all aligned themselves regarding substitutions (three could be made but one needed to replace a goalkeeper in 1994/95; three could be made and none needed to replace a goalkeeper in 1995/96).
So – to sum up – it’s the FA Charity Shield prior to 1995, the Football League Cup in 1993/94 and the FA Cup in 1993/94 that I am not too sure about.
Hopefully, this hasn’t set your head in a spin. It’s certainly set my head in a spin writing it. Haha!
All the best.

- Hi PeeJay,
- Thanks very much for your reply.
- The pages for the 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979 and 1980 FA Charity Shields also state that three substitutions could be made. However, this information was added by other contributors.
- Regarding the FA Charity Shields before 1995, I think it will be very difficult to find out how many substitutions were allowed.
- However, one day I might go through the Football League Cup and FA Cup archives from the 1993/94 season to see whether any teams actually made three substitutions (one of which would have been to replace a goalkeeper). However, as it's very rare for a goalkeeper to be replaced and two further substitutions to be made, there is no guarantee that I will find the answers that I'm looking for (even if three substitutions were allowed).
- All the best.

Hey, sorry about treating you like I have for the past week. You just struck a nerve with me and lead to me treating you with low tollerance like that. I hope you're willing to forgive me and maybe we can move past this.--GalaxyFighter55 (talk) 18:33, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

A notice
Hi! So far FCSB lost the name but still holds the record from 1947 to present. In the 1985–86 European Cup can't be CSA Steaua București (football) because yet they don't hold the record. There is no DEFINITIVE decision. All the links must bring to FCSB. Lawsuits are currently judged. So feel free to revert vandalisms. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:2F0F:301A:E400:2583:4125:14B5:DC1 (talk) 14:14, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello, I do not know how to say that I did not put sources even though I put up the official website of UEFA, which lists the information regarding the number of fans as I put it, and as for the information of goalkeeper Dida, the finals that ended in penalties are; 1984, 1986, 1988, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2012, and 2016. You can watch it to see who the goalkeeper has taken the most penalties in the Final matches. --Mishary94 (talk) 10:08, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- Well, why did you remove my other edit about the attendance despite having a reliable source (official website of UEFA)? --Mishary94 (talk) 12:54, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- What you do by removing confirmed information under the pretext that there are no sources and arguing that one reliable source is not enough is a dictatorship that is not allowed here, and by virtue of having six years of experience with Wikipedia, you are removing the information with an irresponsible individual act, please stop this, thanks. --Mishary94 (talk) 13:09, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- It seems that you did not inform the source, the source talks about the match between Celtic and Leeds United, as well as the Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain match, as well as the 1960 final and 1999 final. Yes, it is true. My English may be weak, but I am sure that I am not practicing dictatorship :)--Mishary94 (talk) 13:42, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Sorry
Hey just want to say sorry making that edit saying twitter was not a reliable source, I was under the impression that Twitter was banned as a source altogether and was not aware of the verified accounts being different.
I was busy when I was told of this in a talk section and could not undo my edit before you did.
Sorry about all of that. Maurice Oly (talk) 19:02, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Llanelli Town A.F.C. seasons
A tag has been placed on Category:Llanelli Town A.F.C. seasons requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Greek Football Cup
Hi, you helped with some edits before on Greek Football Cup article. A minor controversy exists that led to an edit war. It is about statistics. 1961-62 Greek Football Cup final between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos was abandoned in overtime and the Federation never ordered a replay. There is a user Kyopa who keeps adding both finalists as runners-up, but in my opinion this leads to a statistical error. When a sport competition is abandoned there can be no winner/runner-up. You can see the discussion on the article's Talk page. Thought you can help as you are an experienced editor. Best regards! Abudabanas (talk) 21:50, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
