Re: John Barrasso picture[edit]

The image is from http://legisweb.state.wy.us/2006/members/S27.htm, where he served as state senator. The U.S. Senate is borrowing the image until they can make their own, it would seem. Alleged Vandalism[edit]

Thanks for your message. I've looked at the article, and the removal of the link by User:LiveLife isn't vandalism. S/he removed it because it was already linked in the references section. This is supported by the guidance given at WP:EL#References_and_citation which constitutes part of the Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style.

Notability of Mosleh Zamani[edit]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hello. I have witnessed some of your recent edits to the pages George H.W. Bush and Dick Cheney. First off, please make adequate use edit summaries to tell other editors what your revision(s) accomplished. Secondly, the "acting president" clause was determined by myself and another editor to not be particularly notable (or favorable) to be placed in the infobox on those two articles. I removed it in Dick Cheney, then added it back because it really didn't hurt, and another editor removed it on both pages. The more I thought about it, the most the other editor was correct in removing it. It was for a mere day, and although it does deserve mention in the correct section and succession box at the bottom, the lead is too prominent to display such a short and minor event. Hi there, I ran across this article when reviewing Special:Newpages. I haven't marked the page as "patrolled" as I am somewhat uncertain how notable this individual is specifically; however, I suspect the incident in which he died would have far less difficulty meeting the notability threshhold. This is just a suggestion on my part, but perhaps an article on the crash itself, including much of the information you have already compiled here (and with the General's name as a redirect) might be of greater value at this point. Electoral histories[edit]

Hello Darth Kalwejt, and thank you for your many contributions to Wikipedia. There are a few issues I would like to address, however, regarding some content you have added to many articles: electoral histories. I am largely opposed to them, because they do not offer much to the articles and draw each article out substantially, depending on how many elections he/she has been involved in. Furthermore, the proper citation usage is not enacted in any of them (see Wikipedia:Citation templates); it is very strenuous to go through every lone url link and convert it to the proper format. And they are all lists with absolutely no engaging prose.

While I am not opposed to the idea of presenting the percentage of votes for each of the candidates, it should be done in the text of the corresponding section in an article (thus eliminating the list), and does not need to include every single election the candidate was involved in; I was expecting to see "High School ASB" on the list! They should only include the major elections or a notable election, and every revision should include a citation in proper format.

Don't get me wrong - I am not chastising you. I value your many Wiki contributions and thank you for them. But I think these long lists of every election the candidate has participated in is utterly unnecessary. Thanks, Happyme22 (talk) 06:49, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, have you not read my above post? You just inserted the full electoral history to the George H. W. Bush article in a collapsable format (better), but without full citations in proper cite format, and the result of your revison has extended the article size about 8 KB. That's a huge number. Thanks for responding. I'm sorry if I came across harshly; I surely did not intend to. Yes, I think seperate electoral history articles are the way to go, such as the one you provided. I can start moving some of them to seperate articles, and would you like to do the same? Then we have to choose what format to use because consistency is good. There's the one in Electoral history of Eliot Spitzer in table format with colors, and there's the one in George H. W. Bush#Electoral history. Infoboxes[edit]

The material you're adding to infoboxes of political figures regarding presidential campaign nominees is confusing to readers and not in the usual style of the encyclopedia. "Succession" boxes don't work for nominees - for example, it is not clear to say that Bob Dole was succeeded by George HW Bush as VP nominee - we use "preceded by" and "succeeded by" to indicate actual offices held by individuals. Being a nominee is not a job or a position. Perhaps you should ~~ask the editors of individual pages~~ discuss this with other editors for their opinions before adding this across the board. Further thoughts: this is also inherently unbalanced because, for example, George W. Bush does not mention being the nominee in 2000 and 2004, so his opponents are not listed, yet on John Kerry and Al Gore we're told that Bush was the opponent. The whole thing is confusing and not in the encyclopedia's style - we use infoboxes only to list actual positions held, and even then, the most recent ones, in reverse chronological order, and sometimes eliminating early less important positions for style and readability. Hi Darth - thanks for the reply. I am not talking about succession boxes - the ones that are placed on the bottom of pages - I am talking about the infoboxes that are on the top right of the pages. I myself don't like succession boxes, but they can be hidden with the hide/show button, so people who like them can see them and people who don't can leave them compressed and essentially hidden. That's fine - not a problem. But the infoboxes - the ones that cannot be compressed or hidden, but give basic information about the subject - have always shown only actual positions held, in reverse chronological order with the most recent on top. The "Nominee" fields just don't work properly - they are out of chronological order and are inherently confusing. And note what I said about the imbalance between George Bush and JOhn Kerry, for example - why does Kerry's infobox tell us that Bush was his opponent, but Bush's infobox says nothing about Gore or Kerry? The point is that being a nominee is not a "position held", and it is "positions held" that are in the up-top infoboxes. I am not proposing changing the succession bars across the bottom of pages, but I do plan to remove the "Nominee" fields from the infoboxes on the top of pages.. When you make an edit such as this without an edit summary, it looks very much like vandalism and requires additional effort by all those who watch the article to verify yours was a helpful edit. In this case, most editors would have provided a summary similar to split electoral history to separate article. Template:United States presidential election, 1992[edit]

Hi there. I see that you created this template back in 2008: I was wondering if you could explain something about it to me. Why was there a list of Democratic vice-presidential candidates, when there was no formal list of them or public contest for the vice presidential nomination? I have removed all of them other than Al Gore, as I don't see the reason behind that list. If it's just a list of people who were reported as being possible vice-presidential nominations, I don't think it belongs on the template. I notice that some other similar presidential election templates do the same thing, but I thought I'd ask about this one before making changes to the rest.

I am considering effectively splitting-by-subcategorizing Category:People executed under the Stuarts by England/Scotland/Ireland, because at it stands, the categorization effectively suggests that someone executed under the Stuarts was executed by England and Scotland and Ireland, which is not quite true. I wonder if you would have any objections to it.
