Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team cooperation

Hello. I'm a member of the Version 1.0 Editorial Team, which is looking to identify quality articles in Wikipedia for future publication on CD or paper. We recently began assessing articles using these criteria, and we are are asking for your help. As you are most aware of the issues surrounding your focus area, we are wondering if you could provide us with a list of the articles that fall within the scope of your WikiProject, and that are either featured, A-class, B-class, or Good articles, with no POV or copyright problems. Do you have any recommendations? The obvious choices are Alberta (a class), Edmonton (a class), Calgary (a class), Ralph Klein (b class), etc.. I think that there are lots of smaller aticles that are quite good too. By the way I'm going to start ancouncing any AB-related articles I am involved with on this talk page, and encourage others too as well. My main Alberta contributions have been Lethbridge-related. I drastically expanded the Lethbridge article, created its sub articles (and most related articles) and created/edited most of the articles in southern Alberta. --Kmsiever 19:22, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Municipality template

I have created a new templete for municipality infoboxes in Alberta. It is bases on the BC infobox and so I hope it makes things more consistent. I think it is quite a bit cleaner and looks better than the old one. Anybody want to help implement it? {{Alberta municipality infobox}} --Arch26 23:59, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

I've added {{Superimpose}} to this template (overlays a dot on the map image). This allows using generic (shared) map images for locations. - Qyd(talk)05:09, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

wikiproject banner

I've added {{WikiProject Canada}} to a few articles and lists that are related to the project, and that would need expansion. Another ideea is to designate Collaborations of the month , for artiles that would benefit from some focused attention. Qyd(talk)22:30, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Counties

I started to add the missing articles about counties and municipal districts (the red links from {{Alberta}}). The articles are little more than stubs now, with just demographic data and community lists. They could use some help with economy, geography, attractions. - Qyd 06:55, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Banff National Park - peer review request

I have been working to get this article to featured status, with help from two other editors. Until recently the article's talk page was empty, so I don't think this article has had the scrutiny needed. Moving Calgary and Edmonton articles

It has been proposed that Calgary, Alberta be moved to Calgary and that Edmonton, Alberta be moved to Edmonton, in similar fashion to articles such as Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, etc. The discussion is at Talk:Calgary, Alberta#Requested move and Talk:Edmonton, Alberta#Requested move respectively. History: Proposed Merge

Please, go look at History of Alberta. It is currently pathetic. It needs help. It needs much more detail. Curently, however, it is dwarfed in sized by the history sections on Edmonton and Calgary pages, and Lethbridge now seems to have it's own seperate history page !!! I propose narrowing the scope of those articles and transferring some of the material (for example, about early exploration, etc.) to History of Alberta, as well as taking any material from the history section of Alberta and History of Canada we feel would help.   • Oppose: The History of Alberta article can be expanded without the need to merge the other articles/sections. Nearly all significantly-sized city articles have their own history subarticles. --Kmsiever 02:35, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Comment: {{Alberta}} is used exclusivly for communities, and was created together with similar templates for all provinces (consider c0nsistency across provinces). The navbox you propose should not replace {{Alberta}}, but should be applied to articles of general interest regarding Alberta (like the ones listed in the template itself). --Qyd 14:41, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Up untill two months ago, all navboxes were in one category, the sorting has only recently started; further sorting would be a good thing, go for it. Here's another one {{Alberta rivers and lakes}}. --Qyd 18:05, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
I took the hint about {{Alberta}} having too large a list of counties/municipal districts, and replaced those with links to this lists: Towns of Alberta, Villages of Alberta and Hamlets of Alberta; these could fit into the proposed {{Topics on Alberta}} as well. Project directory

Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. Wild Rose

We had the wrong link on the main Alberta page, so I created a stub for the right species of wild rose, Rosa acicularis and linked to it. I think this symbol is an important part of Alberta culture, and I think we need to expand this article. Kevlar67 05:20, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Articles for deletion

Presently, there are three entries in the Churches in Edmonton category Category:Churches in Edmonton. Recently, they were placed into Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bayside Community Church a mass deletion attempt of a number of Churches during this Advent season. They include:

Are there reasons why any of the Buildings and structures in Edmonton category Category:Buildings and structures in Edmonton should remain? Or do we suggest that the Museums in Edmonton category Category:Museums in Edmonton be purged as well?

I'm suggesting that if you don't want to see these articles purged, vote (and I hope you enter KEEP) now!!

BTW, if there's more to add to First PC, go for it!!

Regions

Would it be beneficial to have an article (or perhaps separate articles) for the different regions of Alberta[1] (Central, North, South, Calgary, Edmonton, Rockies)? I've noticed several articles referring to some or all of these regions. --Kmsiever 17:45, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Yes, there probably should be articles on areas listed in List of regions of Canada, if not as sepatate pages, at least as a "Regions" section in Geography of Alberta. Calgary Region and Edmonton Capital Region already do the job. --Qyd 16:43, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I hadn't see the Canada page before. I guess that just solidifies it, and since Calgary and Edmonton already have one each (although they're pretty empty beyond population data), perhaps the others should have their own as well. I think a consistent look should be used for each. I can start on a Southern Alberta article. Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. "Membership"

Hey, WikiProject Alberta!

I'm relatively new to the Wikipedia community, but I've already been making some contributions to the effort. I've created three articles (1, 2, 3) regarding the hamlet of Fort McMurray, Alberta, and was wondering if I could get in on this WikiProject Alberta thing.

What's involved with committal to the project? How does it all work? Please forgive my newbishness,

The sole purpose of the project is, as stated on the project page, to improve articles pertaining Alberta. This page can also be used for discussing issues related to the articles of interest, as well as establishing guidelines. Welfare in Alberta

I was thinking why don't we have a section in Alberta regarding the free handouts given by the government to people who don't want to work? --Parker007 23:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

Not even the article Quebec (where this handouts are a much larger part of the budget) has a section on that. A mention about welfare (or lack thereof) would be more appropriate in Economy of Alberta. --Qyd 03:12, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Add to "To Do"

Here's a big task that could keep up busy for a while: Go to Category:Categories by city. There's lots of categories there. We need to create subcategories for each of those for Calgary and Edmonton for sure, and many of them for Lethbridge, Red Deer, For Mac, etc. Now obviously, there's no point in creating Category:Monasteries in Calgary if we don't have any articles to put in it. But I'm sure we can find, or start, some articles for Category:Education in Edmonton or Category:History of Calgary. Don't you think? Kevlar67 02:09, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

I saw that, good work on Lethbridge. While we are at it, we should look at Category:Categories by geographical location. You go in and look at that, and look at the excellent coverage we have in Category:Categories by country, Category:Categories by city, and even Category:Categories by state of the United States. Then compare that to the poor coverage we have on Category:Categories by province of Canada, this needs to be fixed. Kevlar67 22:26, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

What would you all think about picking an article related to Alberta each week and we all jump in and improve it in whatever way we can.
