{{Link summary|fivebooks.com}}

Five Books is a great blog that produces interviews in which notable persons suggest five books to read on their field. I'm a big fan of the site, but completely unaffiliated, and was trying to create a page for them when I noticed the blacklisting, which was made before the domain got its current use, and which has no reason listed. Cheers.

    Mediawiki:Spam-blacklist is meant to be used by the spam blacklist extension. Unlike the meta spam blacklist, this blacklist affects pages on the English Wikipedia only. Any administrator may edit the spam blacklist. See Wikipedia:Spam blacklist for more information about the spam blacklist.

    Instructions for editors

    There are 4 sections for posting comments below. Please make comments in the appropriate section. These links take you to the appropriate section:

    1. Proposed additions
    2. Proposed removals
    3. Troubleshooting and problems
    4. Discussion

    Each section has a message box with instructions. In addition, please sign your posts with ~~~~ after your comment.

    Completed requests are archived. Additions and removals are logged, reasons for blacklisting can be found there.

    Addition of the templates {{Link summary}} (for domains), {{IP summary}} (for IP editors) and {{User summary}} (for users with account) results in the COIBot reports to be refreshed. See User:COIBot for more information on the reports.

    Instructions for admins
    Any admin unfamiliar with this page should probably read this first, thanks.
    If in doubt, please leave a request and a spam-knowledgeable admin will follow-up.

    Please consider using Special:BlockedExternalDomains instead, powered by the AbuseFilter extension. This is faster and more easily searchable, though only supports whole domains and not whitelisting.

    1. Does the site have any validity to the project?
    2. Have links been placed after warnings/blocks? Have other methods of control been exhausted? Would referring this to our anti-spam bot, XLinkBot be a more appropriate step? Is there a WikiProject Spam report? If so, a permanent link would be helpful.
    3. Please ensure all links have been removed from articles and discussion pages before blacklisting. (They do not have to be removed from user or user talk pages.)
    4. Make the entry at the bottom of the list (before the last line). Please do not do this unless you are familiar with regular expressions — the disruption that can be caused is substantial.
    5. Close the request entry on here using either {{done}} or {{not done}} as appropriate. The request should be left open for a week maybe as there will often be further related sites or an appeal in that time.
    6. Log the entry. Warning: if you do not log any entry you make on the blacklist, it may well be removed if someone appeals and no valid reasons can be found. To log the entry, you will need this number – 830333840 after you have closed the request. See here for more info on logging.

    Proposed additions

    BrianMadden.com

    Non-RS linked in 20+ pages, mostly non-notable subjects. Naturally Brian Madden is also a 3x deleted page[1]. New Dork City (talk) 05:57, 28 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    no Declined - request by sock, reasoning is not reason to blacklist. --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:02, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Streaming sites added by spam sockfarms

    These come from two spam sock farms (on UFC 222 and Red Sparrow) that I just CU-blocked. I guess I could just do it myself, but I'm not really familiar with the spam blacklist. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 05:10, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @NinjaRobotPirate: plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. --Dirk Beetstra T C 05:28, 4 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    smartcontract.com

    Link is being spammed with edit warring; no encyclopedic value to it. Please add to blacklist and if you like, block the IP. thx Jytdog (talk) 20:12, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    named account now spamming it too. Jytdog (talk) 16:56, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    I'm not spamming the link, he keeps undoing my revisions. I tried to add 3 new sources but he keeps deleting them! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vegetablemarket (talkcontribs) 17:18, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    vietnamvisagency.com

    Link is being spammed into visa articles like Visa policy of Vietnam. Blocking an IP spammer did not help as he just continued spamming from another IP address.--Twofortnights (talk) 09:16, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Twofortnights: plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. --Dirk Beetstra T C 12:21, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    hmisys.com

    Constantly added to modbus. If it is that local, this may be the least disruptive. —Dirk Beetstra T C 19:39, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Beetstra: plus Added to MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. --Dirk Beetstra T C 19:41, 9 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    After blacklisting, the IPs appeared very unhappy about this action. --Dirk Beetstra T C 08:03, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    putinbay.com

    While trying to replace an external link with visitputinbay.com on Put-in-Bay, Ohio's wiki, I was confused when I was hit with a blacklist notice. It appears to be triggering the block based on the entry putinbay.com. The link I am trying to add directs users to Put-in-bay's chamber of commerce website, which includes information regarding transportation, local businesses, contact information, etc.

    There was no reasons listed on the log as to why the link was blacklisted, but this site is not porn-related or aimed at spamming visitors. This leads me to believe I received the notice in error. Any help is appreciated.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gserrano0 (talkcontribs)

    Try here, here, and here. --Calton | Talk 00:14, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    no Declined. I would suggest you ask your client why they're on the blacklist. I would also advise you to declare your paid advocacy as you did your paid edits. Kuru (talk) 01:14, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    NO CASH HAS BEEN EXCHANGED FOR THIS, BUT THANK YOU FOR THE REDIRECTION *note: I added 'paid' acknowledgement on my profile for this company because I was unclear of how to declare my advocacy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gserrano0 (talkcontribs) 02:55, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Thank you. Kuru (talk) 03:21, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Gserrano0: please read the guide at WP:COI, and ‘’strictly’’ follow it. Whether declared or not, you still have a conflict of interest, and any concerns regarding promotional edits or spamming may result in blocks and/or blacklisting. —Dirk Beetstra T C 03:28, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    vidyasagar.guru

    Request to remove vidyasagar.guru from blacklist It seems as a mistake I request you to remove www.vidyasagar.guru from blacklust — Preceding unsigned comment added by Saurabhtholia (talkcontribs) 06:22, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Saurabhtholia: no Declined,  Defer to Whitelist for specific links on this domain (all of .guru is blocked, we will only whitelist specific domains residing on that TLD that are needed). --Dirk Beetstra T C 06:48, 1 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    AliExpress.com is a e-commerce platform and website. It has been in business for more than seven years and serve buyers and sellers worldwide. It's crucial to have the business' official website link on the wikipedia page. Without this link this wikipedia entry shows a lack of accuracy for this website.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Chiaychang (talkcontribs) 09:59, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    @Chiaychang: not blacklisted locally,  Defer to Global blacklist to request global removal, or  Defer to Whitelist to ask for local whitelisting of specific links. --Dirk Beetstra T C 10:33, 6 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    The Library of Economics and Liberty is a valuable library of scientific texts. For instance it contains the complete original text of Thomas Robert Malthus' famous book An Essay on the Principle of Population (1826), referenced on page Malthusian trap. The reason given for blacklisting a whole batch of sites, including this library, was: "All appear to have been added by Vipul, Riceissa or other paid surrogates of Vipul, most are selling legal services related to immigration, and the overall conclusion is SEO. All valid content can be drawn from more authoritative sources such as law books, pages in law faculty websites, official government sources etc." It may well be that all the other pages in that batch are selling legal services, but this particular library definitely does not. On the contrary, this is exactly a "more authoritative source() such as law books..." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Orbilin (talkcontribs)

    Blacklist logging

    Full instructions for admins

    Quick reference

    For Spam reports or requests originating from this page, use template {{/request|0#section_name}}

    • {{/request|213416274#Section_name}}
    • Insert the oldid 213416274 a hash "#" and the Section_name (Underscoring_spaces_where_applicable):
    • Use within the entry log here.

    For Spam reports or requests originating from Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Spam use template {{WPSPAM|0#section_name}}

    • {{WPSPAM|182725895#Section_name}}
    • Insert the oldid 182725895 a hash "#" and the Section_name (Underscoring_spaces_where_applicable):
    • Use within the entry log here.
    Note: If you do not log your entries, it may be removed if someone appeals the entry and no valid reasons can be found.

    Addition to the COIBot reports

    The lower list in the COIBot reports now have after each link four numbers between brackets (e.g. "www.example.com (0, 0, 0, 0)"):

    1. first number, how many links did this user add (is the same after each link)
    2. second number, how many times did this link get added to wikipedia (for as far as the linkwatcher database goes back)
    3. third number, how many times did this user add this link
    4. fourth number, to how many different wikipedia did this user add this link.

    If the third number or the fourth number are high with respect to the first or the second, then that means that the user has at least a preference for using that link. Be careful with other statistics from these numbers (e.g. good user who adds a lot of links). If there are more statistics that would be useful, please notify me, and I will have a look if I can get the info out of the database and report it. This data is available in real-time on IRC.

    Poking COIBot

    When adding {{LinkSummary}}, {{UserSummary}} and/or {{IPSummary}} templates to WT:WPSPAM, WT:SBL, WT:SWL and User:COIBot/Poke (the latter for privileged editors) COIBot will generate linkreports for the domains, and userreports for users and IPs.

    Discussion

    Have started a discussion here about using the blacklist to prevent students from linking to the inside net of your university. These links are useless for anyone who does not have a password to that specific institution. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 20:31, 4 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
