Question about Requesting a Copy Edit

I know this is probably a stupid request, but I was wondering if you could double-check to see the request that I made for a copy edit on the Holly & Ivy page was done correctly. I know that it will take some time for someone from the team to get to it (they say the average waiting tie is about a month), but I just want to make sure I didn't make any small or silly mistakes when I put in the request. It would be great to see the article reach the level of a good article. Aoba47 (talk) 21:21, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Aoba47: Your request is just fine. GOCE is currently hosting a drive, so hopefully it will not take a month. Reviewing the edits made by whoever responds to your request is a great way to become more familiar with Wikipedia's manual of style and prose expectations. I've enjoyed your contributions to Wikipedia thus far, so best of luck on the Good article review (when you are ready) and I look forward to seeing more edits in the future. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:45, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much! Aoba47 (talk) 22:03, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
(I am a GOCE coordinator as well as a talk page stalker.) Your request is fine, and the 30-day estimate is based on responses to requests made in 2014. We are doing better than that recently; you can see that the oldest request is from December 24, which is 13 days ago. No promises, but I expect that you'll see a copy edit for that article in the next couple of weeks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:08, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, Jonesey95. And no worries about the Militia occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge request. Makes total sense. I will submit a request after things have calmed down a bit. Thanks again! ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:17, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Harvey W. Scott (sculpture)

Extended content

I noticed that you keep removing my Mount Rushmore addition without cause.

The reason I put it in is because, it is not readily obvious who the gentlemen is, and also, I was giving the readers an incentive to read more on the subject matter, either the artist or mt rushmore itself.

24.188.156.182 (talk) 21:50, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Readers who are interested in his other work can click on his name to be taken to the Wikipedia article about him and his work. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:51, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My point is it is not readily obvious, Mr Borglum article is 7 pages long 24.188.156.182 (talk) 21:58, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The lead of the Borglum article should be sufficient for most readers. Perhaps the Borglum article or lead can be improved, but it is not necessary to list Mount Rushmore on the Scott statue article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:00, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

With respect, I do not see the issue, I have acted in good faith, I did not engage in vandalism, or break copyright law with the addition of said information. Furthermore, it is not obvious that you have greater administrative rights with respect to this page, other than the fact that you live in Portland. I did not digress at length other than use of a thinly-worded phrase. You have not provided sufficient reason other than it is not needed. By not providing the mount rushmore link, there is no incentive to investigate further (the question is why should anybody care about Borglum, unless rushmore was brought to your attention; You and I may know his significance, but not necessarily the general population at large). 24.188.156.182 (talk) 22:16, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I disagree, and not because I live in Portland, or because I familiar with Borglum or his work (because I am not). I did not know he was associated with Mount Rushmore, but if I were curious enough to learn more about him, then I would visit his article. I agree that you have acted in good faith, I just happen to think the content you've added is not necessary. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:20, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I was under the impression wikipedia was about increasing human knowledge and inspiring people to learn, and you just proved my point for me " I did not know he was associated with Mount Rushmore". The whole mission of Wikipedia is about raising awareness of the world around you. Incidently, the only reason I came to this page is because of the show "Grimm" filmed a scene around the Mount Tabor area 24.188.156.182 (talk) 22:30, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the mission of Wikipedia. Again, someone seeking information about either Borglum or Mount Rushmore can do so at the appropriate articles. There is no need to include Mount Rushmore on the Scott statue article. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:34, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you wish to discuss this further, I would recommend starting a discussion on the article's talk page, rather than here, so other people can participate. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:43, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The only reason I am here is because you are the one who has raised the issue of appropriateness, and I am pretty sure due to the very nature of the article, sculpture in a park found in small to medium sized city in the pacific northwest, there is not going to be a lot of discussion of the matter. 24.188.156.182 (talk) 23:58, 11 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To address the issue: Again, someone seeking information about either Borglum or Mount Rushmore can do so at the appropriate articles, I am addressing the readership who might not know a connection exist between Scott, Borglum , & Rushmore 24.188.156.182 (talk) 00:04, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, the first part you said makes sense. As for the latter part, I don't think there needs to be a connection between Scott, Borglum, and Rushmore. I think there just needs to be a connection between Scott and Borglum. I guess if sources about the Scott statue mention the affiliation between Borglum and Rushmore, then sure, feel free to update the article. But if they don't, then we shouldn't mention Rushmore, in my opinion. ----Another Believer (Talk) 00:38, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Formal mediation has been requested

Resolved
The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "Harvey W.Scott (sculpture)". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 19 January 2016.

I'm not refusing to participate, but I don't think this is necessary. We can resolve this discussion on the article's talk page, if further discussion is needed. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:15, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help decide the future of Wikimania

The Wikimedia Foundation is currently running a consultation on the value and planning process of Wikimania, and is open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).

After reviewing the consultation, we'd like to hear your feedback on on this survey.

In addition, feel free to share any personal experiences you have had at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.

With thanks,

Barnstar

The Malheur Occupation Barnstar

For exceptional and tireless work on the Malheur article from day one. LavaBaron (talk) 05:15, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@LavaBaron: Hah! What a unique and specific barnstar. I feel like others have put way more work into the article than I have, but I appreciated your kind words. BTW, I requested a copy edit for the article, but my request was denied because the article is about an ongoing event and is still being edited frequently (which makes sense). I am happy to re-nominate the article for a copy edit review once the dust has settled a bit. It would be really great to get the article promoted to Good status. Thanks again! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:36, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion about Holly & Ivy

Hello, thank you again for your help and support. I unfortunately will not be able to be active as much on here since I start school again soon, but I just wanted to ask you a couple questions about the Holly & Ivy page.

How long does it normally take for a review to be written after the page becomes listed as a good article nominee? I am assuming that it will probably take a while as there doesn't appear to be too much interest in the subject matter of the page. I am honestly still surprised that I could even get the page as far as it has gotten so I hope that I do not come across as rude or impatient. It would be awesome if the page became a good article!

Also, even though I admit this is thinking far into the future and the article would need substantial work, do you think the article could possible go on to become a featured article? The only reason why I ask you this is because I am pretty sure I exhausted all articles that can be used to support the page. I honestly do not think I can add anything else to improve the page. I had to do a lot of digging just to find the few sources I cited on the page. Aoba47 (talk) 22:16, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Aoba47: I've waited as short as a few days, and as long as several months for a Good article review. Album article reviews tend to be more popular, so hopefully yours will be reviewed sooner than later. It is possible for any article to become FA status, as long as it meets all criteria. Once your article has been promoted to Good status, you may consider submitting a request for a peer review, then check the Featured article criteria and decide if you are still interested in pursuing FA status. For what it's worth, Good article status is a great recognition of your work and you might consider investing your time expanding articles and creating more Good quality content. Of course, the choice is yours! I hope you will still be able to contribute to Wikipedia, even to a lesser degree, once school starts up again. Thanks again for your hard work! ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:52, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response and encouragement! I already have a couple articles in mind that I would like to invest time in to hopefully expand into Good quality content so I will definitely try my best in the future. Aoba47 (talk) 20:22, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to let you know that I will return to expanding articles about Natalie Cole in the near future. I would really like to expand a majority of the pages on her albums into Good quality content (I should probably try to tone down my ambitions) and I will most likely start with the Natalie Cole en Español page that I have started doing some minor edits to already. I have just been distracted with preparations for classes and working on a completely unrelated page about a character from a show I used to watch when I was younger. Thank you for making Wikipedia such an inviting place! Aoba47 (talk) 06:03, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Needless to say, you are more than welcome to contribute to whichever articles you wish. I enjoy writing about a wide variety of topics, but sometimes I do tackle specific areas or related articles. No need to tone down your ambitions -- Wikipedia is great because you can volunteer your time and energy whenever you are in the mood. I am glad you've enjoyed contributing to Wikipedia thus far and I look forward to your continued work. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:05, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X Newsletter • Issue 6

Newsletter • January 2016

Hello there! Happy to be writing this newsletter once more. This month:

What comes next

Some good news: the Wikimedia Foundation has renewed WikiProject X. This means we can continue focusing on making WikiProjects better.

During our first round of work, we created a prototype WikiProject based on two ideas: (1) WikiProjects should clearly present things for people to do, and (2) The content of WikiProjects should be automated as much as possible. We launched pilots, and for the most part it works. But this approach will not work for the long term. While it makes certain aspects of running a WikiProject easier, it makes the maintenance aspects harder.

We are working on a major overhaul that will address these issues. New features will include:

  • Creating WikiProjects by simply filling out a form, choosing which reports you want to generate for your project. This will work with existing bots in addition to the Reports Bot reports. (Of course, you can also have sections curated by humans.)
  • One-click button to join a WikiProject, with optional notifications.
  • Be able to define your WikiProject's scope within the WikiProject itself by listing relevant pages and categories, eliminating the need to tag every talk page with a banner. (You will still be allowed to do that, of course. It just won't be required.)

The end goal is a collaboration tool that can be used by WikiProjects but also by any edit-a-thon or group of people that want to coordinate on improving articles. Though implemented as an extension, the underlying content will be wikitext, meaning that you can continue to use categories, templates, and other features as you normally would.

This will take a lot of work, and we are just getting started. What would you like to see? I invite you to discuss on our talk page.

Until next time,

Harej (talk) 02:53, 20 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks!

Once again, I am grateful for your cheerful help. Thank you, thank you! Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 00:50, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Grand'mere Eugene: Of course! I wish I could attend the Eugene event, but unfortunately I've not yet learned how to be in two places at once. :) Thank you for being willing to help organize and provide in-person assistance. Do keep me in the loop regarding ways I can support the event remotely. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:52, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm also often wishing to be in two places at once — my husband tells me there are parallel universes, discovery of which I am eagerly awaiting... Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 01:06, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semicolons

Thanks for reorganizing WP:A+F. Just a heads up about formatting: I only found out about this recently myself (via NinjaRobotPirate), but apparently using a semicolon to make a bold heading-like line without directly following it up with a colon causes HTML problems (implications for screen readers, some browsers). For details see H:DL and MOS:ACCESS. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 06:02, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I was not familiar. I see semicolons used as headings often, so I am surprised to learn this. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:00, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Tbhotch: I am not sure I understand. Why do we need to delete a disambiguation page? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:25, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Why do we need a disambiguation page with one entry and one partial entry. Hatnotes exist for that reason. © Tbhotch (en-2.5). 21:27, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding. I see. I added my two cents to the discussion. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:29, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Tbhotch: I redirected the page. I hope you'll agree that the page now serves a purpose. We shouldn't spend time debating at AfD further. Thanks again! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:33, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@IndianBio: What do you mean? Are you saying there is much work to be done? :) ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:41, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Lol I'm pretty sure there are many of the articles there which are for me to expand. And ahem, work is an understatement for the page at present :P —IB [ Poke ] 16:02, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hah, there are no assignments there, I just like to track pages I've created and which have been promoted to Good or Featured status. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:36, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Steven Wolf, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page David Garrett (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

"Cheap Thrills"

Is "Cheap Thrills" really the second single off of This Is Acting? Katy keeps reverting my edits because her sources don't prove much. What's your opinion on this? Thanks, Carbrera (talk) 23:35, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Carbrera: I don't know. I have not done much research but Katy keeps refusing to provide a reliable source, so I keep reverting as well. This may be another case of "single" vs. "promotional single". ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:36, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly what I was thinking. She just reverted it again and has threatened to report me. She just provided a source on my talk page from Perez Hilton; hardly a source. What should be done? Thanks again, Carbrera (talk) 23:38, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the Perez Hilton source. We just need to keep an eye on the article and I will request temporary protection. Perhaps also discuss on talk page? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:42, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. Thanks for the help. Carbrera (talk) 23:50, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Am I allowed the delete the Vandalism template she just copied and pasted onto my talk page? This is getting ridiculous. Carbrera (talk) 00:10, 12 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
